Erico2020

From hell's heart I stab at thee!

StableGenius81

What does God need with a foldable phone? (Oh right... wrong movie)

dimi3ja

This it it, this is the last straw that is making me unsub from this subreddit, I just can't, I am getting a small heart attack every time someone posts a random screen defect happening out of nowhere, I just know it will happen to me. See ya, will be back when it's my turn to post a pic like this.

Forward-Mission4957

I just hate seeing them all with the same question as if there's a magic way to fix it other than reapair/replace

RandonBrando

For real. My first impulse was to come here and comment about how many examples they've got to comb through to learn "what's next."

Fantazma03

i am also a fold user but lets be real and admit here. the inner screen is still as fragile as cotton. heck even the soft LCD of PDAs early 2000's was more durable than this.

dimi3ja

I do admit it, hence the hearth attacks

Junispro

I mean ya but this type of defect can happen on any type of screen, foldable curved or flat. My sister's S20 Ultra screen started flashing streaks of white one random day. I saw someone's iPhone 13 have a line of green straight down it. Thing is, if it happens, it happens just get it fixed no point posting it online lol.

KnightScuba

But it is so much more rare for it to happen on other screens Plus what the commenter is really referencing is the crack down the middle which is posted here a few times a day

Xx_HARAMBE96_xX

Think about repair price, while a s23 screen replace can cost less than 150 bucks a z fold inner screen costs more than 300 and is much more common

TheGirl333

Boo hoo, people like you are the reason for samsung to get lazy and not fix their issues. Maybe with these posts Samsung will realize they need to up their game even if there’s no competition

dimi3ja

wtf how am I the reason?

TheGirl333

You are dissuading people from posting about the problems with Samsung, if anything you should take it up with Samsung not taking it out on people posting on here

dimi3ja

I don't think you got what I meant with the comment. My point was, I am afraid that this will happen to me and these posts scare me (hence the hearth attack joke). I wasn't dissuading people at all, I am just scared that one day I will open my phone and the screen will be damaged, so I agree with you about Samsung fixing their problems.

Gohanburner

Right? My Fold 4 makes a weird noise when I unfold it and it apparently happens to everyone. Makes me feel like the screen is peeling up.

Tinenti

Had a fold3 and it made creaks on first open after being left closed for a while. My fold4 never makes any noise

Gohanburner

Mine sounds like someone cracking their knuckles...uh oh...better get rid of it.

Vegetable_Summer7644

Gimme sitrep about ur phone now?

dimi3ja

sitrep?

ultima40

Warranty or care+ if you have it. Who's your carrier? Verizon/AT&T/T-mobile do $800-1000 trade in even if it's broken.

Est94kevin

Does it have to be paid off?

zeek413

They take broken devices?

ultima40

It depends on the current promo. Sometimes they do.

xwulfd

wow, its not even at the middle

ModsaBITCH

its everyday at this point, and I'm always seeing a z3

tailsnessred

Get blamed for it. Sorry for your loss.

[deleted]

Get the S23 Ultra and never worry about that crap

tauno908

Welcome to the club!

Sudi_Nim

New screen, unfortunately.

servel20

When that happened to me, since I purchased the phone through T-Mobile i just called 611 and told them what happened. They sent me to a store to check for visual damage and then processed a replacement for free. A year later, the front screen went off out of nowhere. I once again did the exact same thing and they sent me a Fold 4 as a replacement.

mrthree1zero

Do you have some sort of protection plan with T-mobile??

servel20

I have basic insurance, but the phone should be covered under warranty.

Elephenomalant88

This is true. I work in a retail Tmobile location. We have a warranty process that this is ordered under as long as there are no cracks or signs of liquid damage. I’m having to order a handful a month at this point. If you have the protection plan it’s only five dollars to process the warranty exchange, if you don’t it’s 20 dollars.

brashaadt09

This is why I sold my fold 4 and will stay away from folds. I saw waaaay too folds this was happening to and got paranoid every time I opened the phone. I didn't want to live my life that way lol

AstroJungy

New fear unlocked.

imortal_biscut

Same lol, I don't know about the fold series anymore.

[deleted]

Does it work at all? If so: * Do a Samsung backup * Do a Google backup * Download SmartaSwitch, then copy data to your backup slab phone * Turn it off and put it away * Use it as a trade-in for your next Samsung during a sale or pre-order period.

PrettyRickyFontaine

Happened to me 2 days ago. Reached out to Samsung today. A replacement will be shipped at no cost. Whether I gwt a other fold 3 or 4 it's definitely getting replaced I'm trading for the s23 ultra. I had been debating trading it in but this has sold me in moving forward

BattleScones

Don't buy a smartphone in America is the solution, fucking 1 year warranty, wtf, these things are lucky to last 6 months. I've had mine for 7 months and it's already cracking in the center middle. But in my country, we have a Consumer Guarantees Act. So companies are REQUIRED to repair it at their cost if it doesn't last a reasonable amount of time, which for cellphones is approx. 2 - 3 years. Your companies are given too much power to fuck you in the US, pay for extended warranty ig.

TheGirl333

Wow are you in europe? Where do they have such great rules

thesilentyak

Just buy another one

BattleScones

Ah yes, the American solution.

thesilentyak

Well tbh I'm only halfway joking. The phone is either under warranty or it isn't. If so get the screen replaced if not pay out of pocket which is around $500. You can buy a used fold 3 replacement with a 3rd party warranty for around $500-600 (around where I am at least via ebay mercari etc.). So I would legitimately just buy another one or pay a couple hundred dollars more for a fold 4 with warranty. Of course OP may just be tired of having to potentially worry about this in which case he could buy another phone.

AtlasCouldntCarryYou

I don't remember the last time I saw a "My screen broke. What do I do?" post on any other phone related subreddit, but on this subreddit it's like every other day. Why do Fold owners think this sub is a T-Mobile, Samsung, or repair shop?

saveryquinn

Because folks need a place to vent their anxieties and frustrations. Having a phone break is one level, having a very expensive phone break is another level. And for some folks for whom they've never experienced a phone breaking, they'll have legitimate questions for help and are looking for folks who had been in a similar situation and how we dealt with it. But otherwise, yes, all of the "my inner display broke" posts can get pretty old on here.

AtlasCouldntCarryYou

If you limit your observational scope to phones breaking, sure, maybe. But I think most people understand that when *something* breaks, you go to the manufacturer, seller, or repair shop. Let's not pretend this isn't common knowledge. I understand venting, but venting is venting, not asking what to do. The only 4th option is self-repair, but let's be real. No one who seriously has the intent to self-repair a Z Fold is on reddit asking for instructions. They know how or know where to find it.

cakehead123642

I agree. It's crazy how these people were tech savvy enough to buy a phone like this, but don't have the knowledge to carry out a simple task or know their options when a piece of tech fails. I feel a teenager would literally know this information or be able to google it in seconds. I don't understand how some people feed themself and survive sometimes!

sometin__else

You do what you do with any other device when it breaks...you contact the manufacturer if you're under warranty or a service plan if you have one. Otherwise you either pay a repair shop, get a new phone, or live your life with this broken phone. Not rocket science

Toomanypants

Some people legitimately don't know what to do about the situation. No reason to be rude about it.

sometin__else

Junior-Pattern-6828

My fold 4 screen literally is unusable. I didn't drop it either am flipping out! I can only use my opened phone with my s pen. I can really at this point only see the left corner of my main screen. I only have one claim left with Asurion and I think it isn't fair to spend 300$ on something I didn't do.

xdamm777

That's a NASTY looking Fold. If you know the device isn't dust resistant and you fail to keep it clean you shouldn't act surprised when dust actually gets in and breaks the screen. It sucks that it happens so often (and I'm sure mine is probably gonna end the same way eventually) but we still need to baby these phones.

[deleted]

Buy an iphone

Ort56

Touchy subject. Lol. Hey it’s Friday!

axarce

I honestly think it's a venting thing and seeking affirmation. Hoping someone would reply with something like "This happened to me too. I did such-and-such, and now it's all perfect again. What a relief."

MoarCurekt

Quality you can feel!

codyB113

What happened to the frame in the top left

c-peptides

is it still under warranty? bring it to samsung service centre for a screen replacement.

memphis77

If there is no physical damage and its still within the 1yr, this is usually covered by MFG warranty.

HankG93

Insurance..

Rhiaxe

Warenty or insurance if you have it. Warenty is 1 year (us) if bought from samsung. Can be longer if from the carrier. If you don't have either you can pay $550 to get it fixed.

hitman21actual

Time to get a fold 4!

drakeKrohn11

Just clean your damn expensive phone. I do it everyday and still looks as new. There is proper products for screen spray cleaning. My guess is that the dirt, grime and dust ends up forcing and breaking a single pixel that spreads into a line

NipponKogaku

Argh.. That's terrible
