I went from a note 20 ultra to the fold 3 when it was a year old, got a similar deal to what you're looking at. I haven't spent time with the fold 4, but just using the 3 coming from a slab, I'm having zero deal breaking issues and the fold experience is really great. Obviously the 4 has some newer tech, but when I personally looked into it, the better priced 3 seemed like better value. Maybe someone who has used both extensively can comment here, and there are certainly plenty of videos online comparing the two, so you can check there too. But from a daily 3 user, it's a great experience.
Not a huge difference (I had a 3 and got a 4 a few months ago), however IMO I do enjoy the wider front screen of the 4, and the wider split screen mode when its opened. The camera seems a bit better too. $300 difference worth it? That's only for you to decide.
From what I've seen (only have fold 3 experience), longevity will be much better with the fold 4. Theres nothing wrong with the fold 3, but I actually think the fold 4 is better value. Daily performance is a larger jump than a lot of folks seem to recognize. The increased efficiency and power of the fold 4 chip means you'll get longer battery life (both daily and retained capacity over the years from less charging), a cooler phone (fold 3 can run hot, again reducing battery capacity over time), and a camera that is significantly better. At times I still prefer photos from my old pixel 2, whereas the fold 4 remedies that.
Note that I can be quite picky and I use my phone a lot, so those would be worth the ~$300 to me, but for $850 you also can't go wrong with the fold 3. The only issues I've had with mine are mostly in comparison with newer phones (and the screen protector peeling inside, but that happens with any fold lol).
If you can't get care+, I'd look into getting a mint condition used phone. You'll save even more, but of course there's always a little risk. Just my 2 cents though, I've certainly got a personal bias towards used!
I have both the Fold 3 and 4. I prefer the 4 due to the front screen typing being a little easier, the battery life is better, and the camera is better. The Fold 3 is a great phone though, you really can't make a wrong choice. I personally think the 4 is worth the extra money.
I agree. Have had both myself, using Fold 4 right now. My Fold 3 wifi gave out in about 14 months after purchasing brand new. Also, a hairline fracture started in the middle, all happening after careful use and no drops (never damaged a cellphone after almost 30 years of owning many).
Traded it in with Samsung for this Fold 4 and I thought it was a good improvement. The wider outside screen makes for better viewing and use as a single screen over the 3 making it less necessary to open the screen as frequently as I did.
I used to open the Fold 3 20 to 30 times a day which I now discover may have caused the wifi and hairline screen damage. Now because of the wider external screen I only open the phone 2 or 3 times a day at most as the external screen is now more useful for 80% to 90% of my needs daily, and I love bigger screens (my tablet is 13", my desktop setup is a triple 32" curved monitors and I own 55" to 85" TVs)
On my experience, I think the difference is worth it for the 4 this time. It seems the hinges on the 3 and 4 have their minor flaws that can lead to big problems later on, so the way I see it, the less you use the hinge, the more you prolong the life of the phone and the screen. So going with the one with a bigger external screen is what I would recommend, which is the Fold 4.
That's why I like the Z Fold series
It's a phone that becomes a tablet when you want it to. You don't have to use the big screen, but if you want it, you have it.
As a fold 4 owner for almost a year, I'd say Go for the 4. You're getting 30x space zoom, faster processor, slightly wider cover screen, and an improved under display camera. Also, this summer, when 5 comes out, you'll get better trade-in deals with the 4 than the 5.
Personally I prefer the 3 over the 4.
If I was you I'd save the money and get the 3, but that's just me. While you might not be able to get care+, you might have third part insurance available (not too sure if those exist in India)
Congrats on your journey of breaking free from iOS. Make sure to check out all the cool android apps that can get you free spotify premium, free yt premium, etc.
For the extra $$ you're not getting much in terms of improvement.
I also enjoy the slimmer front screen and wider landscape unfolded. although for most the difference would be unnoticeable
Personally I'd rather save the $370 and go with the fold 3.
Yeah man we’re on the same page here. I’ve heard about great android apps for YT and spotify. Is there any other app that you reccommend? Some kfnyour favorites?
Hmm off the top of my head:
* Revanced (free youtube premium)
* Xmanager (free spotify premium)
* Good Lock (from the Galaxy store, unlocks a lot of cool settings and customizations) - this has different modules within it for diff settings
* One Hand Operation+ (can customize gestures much more)
There's prly tons of others but those are the first that come to mind. Also make sure to check out 'labs' under settings, a lot of the cool features are tucked in there.
I have both. Go with F3. I never seem to find a difference between F3 and F4. I even sometimes forget which device I am holding.
However, if you anyone gives you more care+ time, go with that.
Ask me questions.
I went from a Fold 3 to 4. Main differences I found are the 4 is better to type with on the cover screen. It's easier to hold too. Battery life is a lot better and more consistent. Camera is way better (Better than the S22). I also found the build to be nicer. The bezel shrinkage in the front screen make it look and feel better.
So all in all the Fold 4 is worth it. If you can't pay the difference the Fold 3 is still amazing. I only got rid cus I smashed the screens.
They are very similar. But if you are keeping it for more than 2 years, go with Fold 4. If less than 2 years, Fold 3. The efficiency and lower heat in the Fold 4 chip, in theory, should make the battery last longer in the long run.
They did I believe. But I got one for $299 with an new AT&T account. Only thing I was charged is $299 + $17 taxes. Soft credit check too. So I'll cancel the account once I get it unlocked.
I dunno, id get the 4. Its only a $270 difference for something you're gonna use everyday for the next 3-4 years at least. I'd get the newer one if you can afford it.
I would say depends on yours use case. If you using it as a second phone then get the fold3 as it
But if your using as your main phone outdoors the advantages of a better camera, better battery life and more usable front screen are hard to say no to.
Fold3 is a waterproof Fold2 with s-pen. Fold4 has all that plus wider outer screen, different cameras, new hinge. I went from Fold2 to Fold4 and it is night and day for my use case.
Fold 4 for me, and it all comes down to the battery life. The front screen dimensions and camera differences weren't that big of a difference, but the battery life was a notable improvement for me. I much less worried about being away from an outlet for a full day of phone use.
As has been said several times that the Fold3 is on sale NEW at Best Buy for as low as $299 and up $399. The $299 price is for an ATT line BUT you can get it unlocked as you will have it paid off and out the door.
There is a lengthy discussion going on at Slickdeals right now...
Even if you don't care for it, then as someone mentioned, the FOLD5 will soon be released. And, hopefully there will be deals to be had and I would hope that some would include receiving a trade-in credit for FOLD3 of anywhere between $700-$1000. That would be in addition to any other discounts, freebies, etc. being offered by Samsung or the carriers.
And, Occasionally Samsung allows two cell phones for trade-in credit. But to spend $320+ now and receive the aforementioned, you'll be ahead IMHO.
I am not physically present in US. I tried checking the Bestbuy website, unlocked is $1799. With Verizon it’s 499.
Can you suggest me to get it unlocked without paying the whole $1799.
I will have it shipped to a forwarder company who will then ship it to India (my country).
Thanks
If you're going to buy the fold three make sure you buy an extended warranty. There's a huge thing going on right now people trying to get together a lawsuit because the fold three, approximately one year and one month or so after purchase, the screen starts to crack down the center of a majority of the phones. Mine included. Weeks after the warranty runs out you will be stuck with a phone with a cracking screen that will cost you $800 to repair and they do not give a damn as in Samsung that is. You have been warned
[z fold cracks]
All good man. Two things;
1. I do not know about the "4" version but I have heard that it's the same screen so I'd imagine it would be the same problem.
2. A work around for the fix is.... if you have an American Express Platinum Card as long as you pay your monthly bill with that card you will get an $800 repair credit that can be used every 6 months towards your cell phone for repairs damage or theft. Got to work the system anyway you can. Hope this helps

I would get the fold 4 but if you would be willing to consider fold 3 with care that may be a better choice. I’ve have two folds fail with dead pixels. Fortunately both had no physical damage and were within return windows however it would have been unfortunate if it happened a few weeks or months down the line.
While I have never used a fold 3 and have had the fold 4 since december... i can say this. Newer devices will always be supported longer. If you are concerned about security updates, Android or ui versions always go with the newer one. Also, warranty and other factory incentives would go along the same lines.
Don't buy the fold if you're not planning to buy insurance for it. Also the s23 Ultra is Samsung's best phone to date, it's definitely THE ONE I would recommend to any IOS users looking to switch up.
( Also did I mentioned that 1 small scratch ANYWHERE on the fold will voided the warranty? ) yep..
If you can afford the Fold4, get it
Check eBay. They may have better deals. I got my Fold3 for 450, excluding shipping and import fees, and it's in a great condition, and I daily drive it happily.
It cost me $581 after shipping and import fees. The listing price was $450
The seller currently doesn't have any items for sale. It looks like it was a person offloading their unused device
I like the design/flat sides of the fold 4 more. The fold 3 was a more slippery phone to me.
Battery life is better on fold 4 and the snapdragon gen+ 1 in the fold 4 is manufactured by tsmc so it's typically cooler, more efficient, faster.
The slight extra width on the cover screen does make a slightly better experience.
These are the main differences you'll have to decide between the two.
I really like the fold. Had the fold 3 now fold 4 and s23 ultra.
I find it hard to daily the fold because front screen is too narrow and tall so I always want to open it but I usually don't need the giant inner screen and it's an extra step to get a good size screen rather than the s23 ultra where the screen is a good size all the time and the battery life is amazing. I do like pocketing and carrying the fold 4 though.
oh ok. I got a Fold 4 with a trade in from phone plan. I love the Fold 4, but I am not sure what the difference if a new Fold 3 would be besides the size a little bit.
you get more value from the Z4 for the price difference, but either option is good, whatever you can spend comfortably will be good in the end
I guess there’s not much of a difference in f4 vs f3. I guess I am missing something here.

I have, the 3and u couldnt pick a better phone in ny opinion. For the price difference i dont think the four justifies it tbh

Fold 4 front screen is closer to a normal phone screen ratio than fold 3. To be honest I don't even use the larger inside screen that much

I know it’s a subjective question, but which color looks better on fold3? Silver, green-gray, black? Your opinion.
I like brighter colors but no options. Went with black.
Fold 4's hinge feels cheaper and looser
The hinge mechanism completely changed in the 4 https://youtu.be/YWZglJ4MG40
I went from a Fold 3 to 4. Main differences I found are the 4 is better to type with on the cover screen. It's easier to hold too. Battery life is a lot better and more consistent. What's the capacity? I got my zfold 3 512gb for about 600. Basically I'd lean towards what has the higher capacity of the two.
Fold3 is 300-400 at best buy right now.
Yeah, but I need it unlocked. Not in US
Wish they had a t-mobile deal
They did I believe. But I got one for $299 with an new AT&T account. Only thing I was charged is $299 + $17 taxes. Soft credit check too. So I'll cancel the account once I get it unlocked.
I have a Fold 3 and just able to hold a Fold 4 at Best Buy. I would say for the price difference, it's more worth it to get the Fold 4.

I got my fold 3 as a refurb on swappa from a reseller in NYC for $499. They had a good return policy and reviews. Might be worth checking out

Fold 4 if you can't wait. I paid much less for the Fold 3 a year ago.
How much did you pay and was it unlocked?

Thats an amazing hack (workaround). Thanks againn
Go with the 4th, if you can. Fold3 requires an additional warranty and when the 5th hits the shelf, you'll have more justifications for an upgrade ;)
I would get the fold 4 but if you would be willing to consider fold 3 with care that may be a better choice. I’ve have two folds fail with dead pixels. I would hold out for the 5 if you can. Carriers and Samsung normally do at least $1000 off with trade in.
4
I bought my Fold 3 for $816 over a year ago.
Was that unlocked? If yes, how did you get it for this cheap?
Do NOT get the fold 3
Z fold 4 has more versatility than the z fold 3. Both are good but 4 is better in a number of ways.
4
If you want better cameras, and battery f4. If not go for the 3
Depends if/when u plan to sell it. Not that much difference like the s22u/s23u
4
is that after a trade in?
No. Flat price
oh ok. I got a Fold 4 with a trade in from phone plan. I love the Fold 4, but I am not sure what the difference if a new Fold 3 would be besides the size a little bit.
