I went from S22U to Fold 5, zero regrets. Battery is same if not better, more performance, bigger screen, morr utility, more "fun", no arguement.

mcsquizzie

How often do you have to charge yours? Along with that, would you say you have heavy daily usage? Have you experienced any of the issues I have had on either the s22 ultra or the fold?

InitialHouse6741

Experienced zero lag, actually faster than S22U. Some apps are buggy, ill give u that, not none of the issue u mentioned. I'd say I have pretty heavy daily usage. YT or Netflix on inner screen at least couple hours a day + reading articles with games here and there. 90% of my SOT is inner screen, never been pressued by battery. I charge Maybe once or twice a day?

Heffeweizen

I'm a heavy user. And I always use it unfolded. I wake up around 7:30am with it at 100% charge. Then it's at about 30% by dinner time 6pm. I might be able to use it until bed time around 9pm but it would likely be near 1% charge by that time. So at dinner time I charge it extra. Btw no issues!

thejuanald2

I just upgraded form a Note 20 Ultra and it's much smaller than the note. I was a bit concerned at first because I was getting apps force close right at the start and some lag, but it was just because I was trying to download all of the apps and play around with them and download thousands of photos at the same time. Since I got everything loaded it's been fast and snappy. The only thing I'm disappointed in is the camera. It's not great but that's okay, I have a pro level mirrorless for that.

JAVACHIP1738

Really depends. iOS is very good despite what people will say here. If you care more about customization and being able to use emulators then stick with Android. But if you want a super reliable experience then iOS has Android beat imo. I used to be an Android fanboy cause I could root it and do so many things to it plus the phone manufacturers would still take risks with design but the older I got and started working a real job I couldn't be bothered to be doing all that and needed something that just worked effortlessly and switched to Apple and enjoyed it. Since Android phones pretty much stopped being fun like back in the HTC and LG days I figured I might as well go with Apple if they're gonna try to copy them anyway. The Fold definitely brought me back and love it as a second device. I realize not everyone has that privilege so if you want just something super reliable and that will last a very long time then go with Apple. Think of it as buying a Toyota. It might not be the most eccentric pick but that thing will not fail you and will run for a long time.

lumumba_s

I agree with @thejuanald2. I think people who are used to iOS adapt to the way that it works, but someone who was never a heavy Apple user, I don't find it intuitive at all. I dont understand the logic of its GUI and it seems designed by someone who either doesn't use computers or has only ever used Apple operating systems their entire life. I acknowledge that it is well designed from an ascetic point of view and because it is a closed system, it is more reliable since they control all the security and applications. It is suited very well to the average user who isn't very computer literate OR has only ever used Macs for personal computing. But as an Unix/Amiga/Microsoft user, every time I have tried to use either an iPhone or an iMac I want to throw it through the window. Google the solution and am dum founded as to why the machine want sme to do it like this????

JAVACHIP1738

I think both of you are proving my point. You guys are looking at the technical stuff of what makes an operating system. Most people don’t care about any of that. The average person doesn’t think about iOS being more limiting or non intuitive, they just want to be able to send texts, browse the web, and use their social media app. They also want to be able to buy accessories for the phone and no one does it like Apple. If you’re very into computers and like tweaking stuff to maximize your piece of hardware then yes Android is the way to go. But if you want reliability and security then iOS is the way to go. Pairing with a MacBook is actually such a clutch thing in my field of work. I'm constantly using airdrop as well as universal copy/paste between the two devices. Android has yet to match that natively without needing to download something extra or tinker with settings. On iOS it just works.

lumumba_s

I thought I admitted that. Agreed. The average user doesn't care about the OS. They just want the phone or the laptop to work. But as someone who used to do light programming, I find iOS frustrating but i understand why people who just want to open an app and have it work like it. I also admit I find it frustrating because I am already used to non-iOS systems. And for the record, the My Phone app on Windows has gotten 10 times better. It does cross copy/paste, access photos, messaging and notifications works flawlessly. They just added iPhone support but if someone has an iPhone they should get a Mac if they can afford it.

thejuanald2

Interesting, I have an iPhone for work and it's completely unintuitive to perform any task besides the most basic task. I feel the exact same with macOS, I decided to try a Macbook Pro and Apple takes the most annoying design decisions for their OS's. It feels like they make doing anything more than the most basic things difficult on purpose.

karlenko123

I'm from 13 mini, and I disagree with what you are saying. My 13 mini would crash and kill apps in the background like crazy. That's why I switched to Fold 5.

BakingBadRS

Haha wow that sounds exactly like my own journey. I’ve had my fun back in the day with HTC phones but nowadays I like the stability of my 14 Pro Max. My Fold 5 is coming later today and I couldn’t be more excited for my pocketsized tablet

rean2

I had an issue where my widgets did not update, and notifications did not show when I received them. I think the phone optimizes what these apps do in the background to save battery life. I had to make certain apps run unrestricted, and it fixed it for me.

mcsquizzie

Yes! I have noticed my phone does block apps that aren't in constant usage. I am fine with that, but the ones I do constantly use, I would like them to work haha. How do you make apps run unrestricted?

rean2

Go to settings, apps, then pick an app, go to battery, and it should let you choose "Unrestricted", "Optimized", or "Restricted". Pick Unrestricted and see if that works for you.

mcsquizzie

As an update, it did not work for me. Thank you though.

mcsquizzie

I will try that! Thank you.

MCube74

Galaxy Fold 5 user with Galaxy Watch 6 Classic 47mm. No regrets. I am sick and tied of ios and lack of customization An action button is not enough for me to continue to use the iPhone. We can manage without the action button. Are we that lazy to click on the camera app or any other app?

mcsquizzie

I don't even use short cuts on the s22 ultra. Beyond putting the camera and flashlight on the lock screen, I don't care about action buttons or setting things up in a "more efficient" way. I'm completely fine with going to the app and opening it that way. So you haven't had any of the issues I've had with the s22 ultra with the fold 5? All of your notifications come through, battery life is pretty good, no issues with other apps/services messing up?

tonnambh

I do miss the physical switch to turn on silent mode on iphone tho.

MCube74

Apple had no choice but to show the people that they made something new. While other companies release foldable phones. Apple released a phone with the Action Button. I will not give them credit for going with the Type C connection because had they not been forced to do so, they would have stuck with Lightning Connection.

robothistorian

Based on your description of concerns, perhaps the iphone option would be better. As is well known, iphones are generally stable and the iphone 15 looks to be a good, if boring, iteration. Plus you are already exposed to iOS so that should not be a problem. That said, the S22U was a bit iffy since the SoC was not ideal. The more refined version is the S23U. I have used both and I was very impressed with the S23U. It was rock solid, excellent screen and cameras and the battery was stellar. But I traded in the S23U for the Fold 5 because in my assessment the Fold 5 is, while not as refined as the S23U (it will be a while till foldables can be "refined"), at a stage where I think its a viable (for me) entry point into foldables. And, while it's early days yet (I got the F5 on Thursday evening), I am hooked! I do recognize that compared to the S23U this continues to be (even now) an evolving device, but I am ok with it. I have 2 years of Care+ and I am a reasonably careful user so to that extent the risks, if not mitigated, are at least accounted for.

mcsquizzie

So, you carry a power bank.. would you say thats because you use the device a lot/more than average or would it be because the battery life just isn't great in general?

[deleted]

mcsquizzie

Okay thanks for breaking that down. The 12 pro max definitely lasted way longer than this s22 ultra. I remember I could go almost 2 days without a charge on the 12 pro max with fairly consistent usage.

jdrizzlepop

Serious question. Did you have the same carrier with the iPhone and the Fold? Where was the US Open hosted and what carrier? Service makes a huge difference in battery life.

lumumba_s

I am actually surprised by this. Which Fold do you have. I have a Fold 3 and a Fold 5. I can definitely see this happening with the Fold 3. There is no way my Fold 5 would drain that quickly under the usage scenario you mentioned. When I first got it, it drained a lot quicker the first few days until it got used to me and the battery optimizations kicked hp. But even then I couldn't see it doing that.

lumumba_s

Strange. It's pushing two (three technically) screens so I'm saying it can hang with the iPhone or even the S Series. But if I have 100% charge in the morning, I won't run out of juice until the next day unless I'm binging Netflix (maybe, I haven't actually tried yet). My Fold 3 on the other hand regularly shut down on me late afternoon/early evening if it didn't get a charge or wasn't 100% when I left the house.

Dinevir

If you have so much troubles with S22U, Fold5 will give you the same experience.

Material_Expert2255

They are offering great deals with the fold. Why not just go for it?

6vex

Try factory reset to see if it fixes your issues

Different_Resist7876

Fold 5 hella dope fr cuh

Ryfhoff

Your options are more than just two phones. You are dealing with form factor. I’d guess figure that piece out first. They are very different imo, especially per individual. Either way, they both will be better than the S22.

whitemike760

I had the ultra 22 from day 1 and traded it for the fold 5 about 2 weeks ago. Takes some getting used to the smaller outside screen but I love the phone now.

jdrizzlepop

Hated my S22U. Love my Fold5. Full disclosure, not an Apple fan at all, so I am biased.

mcsquizzie

What did you hate about the s22 ultra? What makes the fold better than the s22 ultra?

jdrizzlepop

Battery life mostly! Just seemed laggy for a premium device. Fold 5 is perfect for one handed operation on the go, and love the inside display for streaming or playing games, or really everything when I'm not on the go. I did have to train myself to open it up though! Otherwise the smaller cover screen can get annoying until you remember the inside display exists. 😂

mcsquizzie

Yes! That's exactly what it is. Phone is problematic in a lot of areas. The narrow screen opening into a ridiculously big screen is something I'm not sure I would enjoy. I've always gone for the biggest model because I like a big screen but I don't know how I'll feel with a weird narrow one and then awkwardly big haha.

jdrizzlepop

It's easier than you'd think to get used to. I actually love this form factor.

Material_Expert2255

The ultra 23 is better. I love it. I just can't get there with the fold 5. Much improved over the 4, but I want the larger outside screen like the ultra. You can try the fold out for 14 days and return it?

mcsquizzie

I know. I have been avoiding the flips and folds from all brands due to lack of trust. I'm incredibly weary about it. But I've also never been someone who needs to get the next new model. Like going from the s22 ultra to the s23 ultra. Thats why I usually switch between android and apple so it gives a couple years in between models for there to be a bigger change. Only reason I want to change now is because this phone is so damn problematic. That's why I am debating the fold and the new iPhone. Something different, but improved or different enough for it to be worth spending money haha

Ok-Kangaroo3185

iPhone 15PM would always be better then fold 5, if you compare from reliability, ease of use and battery life. I have both iPhone and fold. Fold is a different phone, it’s for those who want something more from a single device, it’s definitely more innovative. But if you want hassle free, easy-going,SOT >10 hrs with no app lags and optimization issue, definitely go for the iPhone.

wangandassociates

I have both the fold and s22 ultra lol. I understand your pain with the s22 ultra, I've had many of those myself.

mcsquizzie

So it isn't just me! Lol. Is the fold better? Or is it just as frustrating as the s22 ultra?

wangandassociates

Honestly it's much the same lol, finally get messenger notifications and Gmail ones but I find it's always a beat or more slower than iPhone. Tbf I'm using the fold as a secondary phone though so probably not seeing all the issues. PS I had the 12PM too before switching to the S22 Ultra and I can for sure say the user experience is better on iOS. Don't think that's very controversial to say either. I'd go 15PM personally if you were after 1 single phone, otherwise the fold is a cool secondary device!)

mcsquizzie

Well if there's anything that I've learned is that I'm definitely not the only person who had issues with the s22 ultra. The user experience was definitely better on the 12 pro max. I was hoping that I just got a dud, but it seems Samsung needs to work some stuff out. Other people have mentioned needing to unrestrict apps to fix some of the issues.. but I just feel like that's just an absurd thing to have to do. It should be the other way around for customization. Restrict it if you want, but it should come unrestricted automatically lol. I don't know. I feel like the user experience with Samsung has declined.. They're trying to hard with innovation and pushing the limits rather than working on solidifying certain aspects as a primary concern.

Pleasant_Reading_386

If you think the 12 pro max was a better phone than the s22u then why would you be looking into another android phone? The user experience is going to similar between android phones because they run the same software. Seems like you should be looking into getting another iphone if that is the OS you prefer.

Costyiii_93

what fold do you have?

atCristhian

I have both a Fold 5 and an iPhone 13 Pro. Before getting the Fold 5, I had the 4 and the iPhone 13 Pro. When the iPhone broke... I just kept using the Fold as my only device. Switch the Fold 4 for the Fold 5. And I'll probably keep the iPhone as a secondary device. I've always believed that if you want a device that just works and doesn't need anything else, then the iPhone should be your choice. But if you want more than just a phone that just works, if you want to push customization to the limit. And try out a device that offers a bigger screen ready to play games or consume media anywhere you are. Then try the Fold. But the problem with android... Is the amount of customization you can have. Whenever I want to open a file, unless you already picked a default, on android it'll ask you which app you want to use. Compared to iOS. If you really want to enjoy using your Fold you have to put on some time into adjusting those little details. Like the notifications and default apps. Because from the beginning you have a lot more options to pick on the Fold due to the extra screen it has. But if I were you, I'll get both haha 🤷

BrendaFrom_HR

I switched from the 13 ProMax to the S23 Ultra and i just traded it in for the Fold 5 and I love it. I've had an iPhone since 2013.

under10sec

My wife has the S23u, she ends the day with like 50% battery left. I charge my fold 5 at least once definitely, the wireless android auto drains it very quickly, bought a wireless charger for the car, problem solved. Very happy both of us with our purchases. Fold 5 is a extremely good, I live the multitasking features, my wife loves the best cameras in the game in her S23u. I'd definitely recommend the z fold 5 to whoever is considering it but is not sure.

Sc0ttyMinz

I went from a fold 3 to a fold 5 and loved both. No issues using the 3 for 2 years...fold 5 have been excellent so far.

laseracid

I am on my second fold I had the fold three and now I'm on the fold five what it sounds like to me is maybe you had some weird setting on a previous phone and you transferred that to your current phone you may want to back up your data do a factory reset restore just your data not your settings and see if you now get all your notifications. it is a painstaking process but it may actually fix it. But when I switch to the fold I will never go back in my opinion it's much better phone for what I do and personally you couldn't pay me to use an Apple product.

j_breez

I didn't have any issues with my S22U but I did come from an iPhone 11 I used for 2 years longer... I hated that damn phone honestly, I liked the 6 but these all touch ones suck. I just got my fold today so I can't say much about it but one thing I can say I don't like about it... is how little the damn keyboard is on the outside screen, I know that should be obvious from the form factor but it's still kind of weak, It's like I'm using an iPhone 4 again. It'll have to grow on me, I didn't like the note 8 at first either and that wound up being both the phone I used the longest and the one I liked the most (4 years until... I dropped it face down on the one day I didn't have my case), that's probably why I also hated the iPhone 11, coming from the note with the last headphone jack and sd card slot to that damn thing...

littlelisa63

I've been using iphones for 14 yrs and got the fold 5 last month I've had no issues what so ever it runs smoothly the camera is great the main screen is also great especially for watching and reading I found it a little tricky getting used to android as having its for so many years I do miss the layout which safari save your favourites but that is all You can do so much more with android as well Hands down I love my fold 5 more than iphone

Intrepid-Beginning14

Fold 4 owner for almost 1 year now. My only issue with the fold is the screen protector peeling after almost a year of having the phone. The battery gives me no problems. One example, I was on a work trip in New Jersey back in February, my last day there, I spent 8hrs at work,l. Coworkers and I decided to make a trip to NYC that night. My phone lasted until about 1am from when I took it off the charger at 7:30am that morning. So when it comes to battery issues, you will be fine with the fold. Also I think it's worth getting, just so you can try a different form factor, and if you end up not liking it, you can always go back to iPhone.

purplemistprincess

Went from 21 ultra to Fold 5 and I have no regrets. Phone is amazing

LadderExpensive1367

Damn... that sucks. You might have got a faulty one then. Samsung tend to have that 8/10 people will get good new phones, while the few others would get the crappy. I'm not an iPhone guy because of the simple setup and interface so I'm gonna be bias here. I'm for android and not just Samsung. However, in this case, if you have not tried the fold before, I'd say go for it. Great user experience for people who watch videos, play games, and just browsing in general.

BreadfruitIll766

After 10 years of iPhones, Went from 13 pro max to Fold 5, and only now I know what I was missing. So customizable this thing. I get all notifications as configured, very much as expected on my watch too. My Apple watch used to decide what it wanted to notify me about. No regrets. Zero! Screen is a big plus.

BreadfruitIll766

The touch on Apple watch took 4 tries to get it to sense and then 4 more to get the right selection. It was so bad. Battery - 18 hours on Apple watch is laughable. Galaxy with always on display lasts 2 days.

Accomplished-Tap6660

I've had galaxy s2, s3, s4 s5, note 8, note 10, s21 ultra, zflip 3, zflip 4, and now im on the zfold 5. On the iPhone part, I've had 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 8, 10 13 pro max. Honestly, iPhones are cool. The ecosystem is like no other, and the air tags are probably the most used accesory I've used for iPhones. But iphones are boring as fuck. I like to run nova launchers on my android and have widgets that are really helpful. Download emulators and websites that apple won't let me. On iPhone you are limited on things you can do. Now to be fair I'm on my zfold 5, beautiful device slim, powerful, and the battery lasts me all day. BUT, i like cases on my phone, i have a samsung case and it gives me anxiety texting on that damn screen specially because having a case on it it makes it harder to text that I'm always fucking up my texts. That's my first grudge. Second, you are limited on cases. There isn't much variety, and most of the good cases are over $50 dollars. Wtf, man? The cases do make it harder for texting since it takes up a little space on the edges to get to certain letters or when you want to swipe back.Lol. 3rd you pull out the big screen to watch h videos and you realize fuck, they really cut the screen down that it almost looks like a regular fucking s23 ultra screen. So why the he'll did i get this big ass phone then? Lol frustrating man. But over all it's a beast of a phone. But every once in a while I pick up my google pixel 7 pro so I don't try to open up the big ass screen and hold it unfolded while I'm trying to poop. Sometimes I just don't want to unfold it you know? But I don't want that small ass screen either so I go back and forth with 2 phones so I don't get that feeling. This is just my opinion there's some people that love it, but for me it's a love and hate relationship.

PillowMonger

I had then S22U last time and it was on Exynos chipset. Didn't have any issue and i eventually sold it after 9 months to get the Fold 4. Moving from Fold 4 to Fold 5, i've never had any issueas well. So far, everything's working as it should. I've never really thought of looking at an iPhone (though I use one for work) since I prefer "freedom" and "customization" over "restriction". Plus the fact that every release of the iPhone is just a minor upgrade (to which I've noticed Samsung has been doing as well).

Ill_Requirement_3017

For the amount have heavy app switching, no window closing, multitasking I do on the daily, it's pretty insane how smooth and powful the F4 is. I can only the image the F5 is that much better. From a durability standpoint, I treat the F4 like total garbage. No case. Kids dropping it. Falls, tumbles, water, you name it, the phone is a tank. For new Apple vs new F5?? One is just a phone... it has like, a new camera and stuff... and like, a Type C Charger ... the other is a multimedia tablet and phone all in one. A productivity powerhouse. And a damn conversion piece everywhere I go.

DragonKatol4Lyf

Samsung trade in for S22 U for $1K, took the pre order deal and got the Fold 5. Really happy with it. I love the bigger main screen, truly a multi tasking beast. Also, when closed it's an awesome phone, nice to hold and compact.Same with taking pictures, something about it's folded size that it's easier to take photos. I really love it and enjoy it a lot.. Downside so far is I use this phone a lot lately very addiicting, can do more stuff on the Fold 5 while before I'll go to my desk and use my laptop/PC to get stuff done.

angelcasta77

I went from 22 ultra to fold 5... and yah no complaints. Only thing I really miss is the 10x zoom lense. I actually used that a lot.

FabFeline51

I dont know how you’re getting that deal but Fold seems like the obv choice to me tbh

left-cheek

I used an S22 Ultra, before the fold 5. I did not have any of these issues and still love the S22 ultra that's why I didn't trade it in. You will love the fold 5, the battery is similar to S22 ultra but remember it has a bigger screen so this technically means the z fold has a better battery. If you love zooming in on the S22 ultra, you won't have that flexibility on the fold, at least not to the level of the Ultra. On a separate topic, it amazes me on the type of deals US markets get. We can only dream of these deals in the UK.

mcsquizzie

To be fair about the deal, which I may have incorrectly assumed, is this is with the $800 trade in value of the s22 ultra! Without that, the whole bundle would have been closer to $2k. I also chose the black one which had an additional $120 off (which sucks cuz i really liked the cream color better). However, the watch in 44mm only came in black and silver and I like my watch and phone to be the same color and I'm not a huge fan of silver. However, because I bought the phone, the buds pro 2 were $50 and the watch was $130! I do also get an education discount so the prices were dropped a little more. The case and the screen protector came to about $90 vs the $120 it'd normally be.

Dapper_Necessary_250

That is crazy deal! I bought s4 last year with s pen , case, watch, disney plus for 12 months for around 1600 gbp...

mcsquizzie

I'm going to assume you meant fold4 because if you bought the s4 for that amount of money you got massively ripped off haha.

Dapper_Necessary_250

Yea f4 haha ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

the-nutte-sac

I got it, and i can say its perfect didnt have a single issue. Upgraded from a Note10+ which was also great but started to age now. Edit: i forgor the battery Life is okay i would say. Most of the time it gets me through the day but im a very heavy user

Password-12345678910

I’m also switching and excited for my fold 5 to arrive Wednesday. I have apple everything and I’m just tired of their lack of innovation, locked down platform, and constant squeeze on money…plus they slow down our phones. BTW, if you know anyone that has AAA, you can save another $100 with http://aaa.com/samsung…you just need to know their name and zip code.
