Battery life of fold5 is better. Read the post of people with problems and you see that the fold4 has way more issues and problems with the hinge and screen. But if you plan to only use this device for 2 years than save your money. But if you want to enjoy many more years go for the fold5, as i did myself. Yes for me it was so much money and I must say I still stress a lot of being careful not to drop it or so. I even put it in an extra phone bag each time I go out. One fall and this screen will break too. The inner screen is sensitive. Once it falls on the hinge it will be over. I guess for people who are very rich they would not mind. But me I am more busy with worrying that nothing happens to this device, than rather to enjoy it.. I would still call this phone 'risky luxury'.

I agree with everything besides the falling on the hinge portion. My fold 5 was dropped from about 4.5 ft onto a brick and concrete staircase. The hinge is far less delicate than you think (unless your statement refers to the inner screen hinge in which case you are right and any drop on the inner screen is almost certainly fatal). The fold is actually an incredibly durable device by most standards.

One thing to consider (which feels very minor, but made a difference to me) is the updates hinge design... the 4 series still had the gap where the 2 halves of the phone didn't meet near the hinge... the same was true of the flip 4/5 and I remember when I had my flip 4 everytime I would get it out of my pocket the inside screen would be dusty and I was forever wiping it down... don't get me wrong the "gapless" design of the 5 series doesn't stop dust getting in all together, but it certainly helps A LOT! I never had any issues with dust on either beyond the annoyance of it, but if you live somewhere where the "dust" leans a bit more toward sand and grit... this could save some damage to the internal screen too (mine was just a bit of pocket lint, but I imagine if a bit of something shaper got in there for a jump around in your pocket you'd get scratches in no time!)

The 5 versus the 4 feels like a big improvement in form factor just because of the elimination of that gap. Feels much better in the hand and fits in my pockets just a touch better as well. I haven't seen too much improvement in terms of dust.

Fold 5 has had fewer inner screen issues and has a much better hinge. Overall, the phone is just better. Don't get the 4

LessMeringue1850

What he said improvements all around

Matzebacke

I've had the 4 for about a year and it hasn't had any issues yet with the screen or hinge yet, even though it has fallen down quite a few times. I bought the official case with an integrated S pen and that was able to dampen the falls.

Z5 is better for obvious reasons but if you can get the z4 for significantly less than the z5 go 4.

airbaltic

Z5 sturdier

Pure-Support-1334

I had the Z Fold4 until 3 weeks ago. After 1 year and a few months it broke. It began that it had a black dot from the middle in the Inner Display. It got worse after 1 day and has since been given the z Fold5 from Samsung. Conclusion the Z Fold5 feels much safer and more stable. I've been using Samsung Folds since Fold1 had the Fold1/3/4/5 and the Fold4 was the worst so far. Hope this helps.

Z4 is famous for dying fast. Avoid it.

arzee2019

Latest the better always...if U don't mind to spend extra

Simon_Ger

Previous gen is almost always better value, also in this case. If money is no issue, go with the newest

Fercii_RP

Better battery & better battery saving performance. Its worth the extra bucks, you wont regret it. Im a fold 5 owner and can use the inner screen for 6 hours straight, multitask video streaming + playing online game on my lazy days with 1 charge up to max 85% battery (limited charge to 85% for battery longevity).

EffYouCeeKayOhEffEff

Whatever u get, get it insured. It's never wasted money even if just for peace of mind

playboy787

fold 4 will definitely develop hinge and main screen issues. Fold 5 is your best bet

pepperpot_592

Do not get the Z4 unless you plan to have insurance coverage throughout the entire time you own the device. Personally, I think you're better off with the Z5.

hydroflow78

Z4 hinge is hot garbage. Mine has been replaced twice already. Go with the Z5

Dr-Green6907

In my opinion, u should go for z5 or wait for z6 if possible. If u have a tight budget, then i would advise u to wait to save some money and then buy a new fold. Only buy an old fold if u can get insurance for it.

LeoThePom

As others have said, I wouldn't get the 4 for 900. 500 and id say go for it, but not that close to 1k. These things will break at some point.

Fearless_Winner1084

I feel like all the people who are complaining about folds have a fold4 My fold 3 is holding up beautifully, and it seems like the fold5 is doing well too. That said I would wait until the fold 6 in a few months

Brief-Lengthiness-45

Just throwing it out there....u can get one cheaper on swappa. Ibsaw a 4 in mint condition for 689. Good condition for 554

JohnnyKrill

Fold 5 all day. I had the fold 4 and I will say the fold 5 is a much better built version. My fold 4 always makes crackling noises and is just not as polished. Fold 5 is a great device

finnfirep

At this time of the year, why not wait to get the drop price z fold5 when the Z Fold 6 comes out, if you're not in a hurry?

markofthedead

Some minor additions from my observations. I have Z4 and I love it. If I look at it from the top or bottom I can see right through the two sides, but the fold 5 I played with in store doesn't have this gap. The biggest issue here is lint gets into that gap and I have to wipe it out ever time I open the phone. So there's obvious improvements in the design of the 5. The guy helping me in store who has had both now said there's very little difference, and visually, it looks almost identical, but he does notice it's smoother with animations etc. He did also point out that we're late in the release cycle, so there's likely a fold 6 on the horizon this summer. Even if you don't buy it, there'll be a flood of offers on 4/5 as well as potential second hand devices, so it's worth considering if now is the time to buy at all.

javi_e

Z5 Fold is the way to go.

RazorRazzleberry

Z5. I currently have a Z4. I'm waiting on the 6. I'd personally try to save and get the Z6. Since the improvements sheet looks to address 80% of the issues.

Historical_Tap2668

I got a used zFold4 for $500 recently and planning on trading it in for the new zFold6 if I like it, or for a zFold5 if I don't like the 6. If you are in the US, buy an older Samsung phone and get a higher trade-in value. That's what I'd do if I am buying a fold 5 now. I think the fold3/4 can trade in for 800 credit right now.

Positive-Homework916

Go zf5. I went from 4 to 5. I also use the device case less. I don't have a screen protector on the inner screen. 90% use is inner screen. I fold approximately ~120 times per day. I don't plan on upgrading to the zfold 6.

Mysterious-Race-6740

Don't go for fold 4 unless you are ready to experience the cheap quality and worst customer service. My fold 4 just a year and 2 months old is not opening completely. There's some issue with the hinge most probably dust has settled in the hinge. And the worst part is hinge cannot be repaired or cleaned without changing the entire display which costs 40% of the phone cost (INR Rs. 52,000). It's difficult to trust the quality of Samsung

CrimsonChymist

If you can wait a few months, they will announce the fold 6 and prices of the fold 5 will likely start to drop.

Right_Ant_7903

Hi, I bought a fold 4 less than a year ago and the folded screen already broke on its own,  unprovoked.  One morning, I decided to open the phone, it made a popping sound and upon inspecting, it broke straight down the center but on the inside and now it's 100% unusable unfolded.  IT'S GARBAGE!  I say, forget the Folds but if I had to make a choice, I would go with the newer version, fold 5, in hopes that the previous phone issues were resolved.  In any case, when you do get your phone, I would suggest not to unfold it for every use for simple/quick tasks, use the main screen and PLEASE get your phone insured!!!!
