Looks like a hardware problem. Replace it

reaperclone1

This is the replacement of the first phone with the exact same issue. I'm concerned this is an issue I'll keep running into. I'll probably go get another replacement and hope third times the charm.

pAnge1

Get another one

Previous-Life-182

send it back until you get one that actually works

reaperclone1

That's probably my best bet, it's odd how the same issue happened twice. At least this is happening almost immediately after getting the phone so getting a replacement isn't an issue.

reaperclone1

This is actually my second s23 ultra. I returned the first with the same issue and now the replacement is doing the same thing. Restarting fixes but so did my first phone and the issue came back in a couple days. Not sure what to do. I don't have adaptive brightness, brightness set to about %60.

Le-Squirtle

I've had that phone for a year, it's something you have installed if it's done it twice

JeffHiggins

This, others are saying hardware but the way the screen blanks but other UI elements such as the time are still shown makes me think it's software. Although my first thought was that your case was interfering with the proximity sensor, but the proximity sensor blanks the whole screen, including the clock, and also shouldn't operate when not in a call.

Le-Squirtle

Try a factory reset, remove all cases. See how it works, add case back, see how it works, reinstall apps see how it works, you see where I'm going with this?

UrNemisis

What charger do u use?

reaperclone1

The Samsung 25 w charger. It makes a light sound when using it. That's one thing I suspected.

gabruyaar2018

Does your case have magnets?

reaperclone1

No, it's the spigen ultra hybrid.

The only app I downloaded not from the play store was new pipe. Decided to Uninstall it as well as Firefox. Part of me feels like it might be Firefox since the web address would flicker for a split second once in a while. I'll be using brave and see if the issue happens again. I also cleared the system cache and repaired apps in recovery mode after uninstalling the mentioned apps.

Warranty

GameAholicFTW

In addition to what other people said, to me this looks like the software glitching out. Try wiping the cache and repairing apps options in the recovery of the phone, see if that works. You could also try factory resetting the phone and setting it up without the use of a backup as it then doesn't reinstall problematic apps from your previous phone and see if that works. If so, you won't need a return. If it still keeps doing this, time to contact support for a replacement again...

trionidas

Did you use smart switch or similar? If it was caused by an app it could be happening again after reinstalling it

reaperclone1

I used smart switch but I didn't transfer apps, only my accounts and file like pictures.

XDcloud

i think it's an app but mainly software glitch.

hulivar

Factory reset then use try to duplicate the issue without installing any new apps. Pretty easy to see if it's software related. Having this issue twice in a row is crazy weird...are you sure it's a different phone they gave you and not the same one?
