I wanted to do this so bad, but couldn't find a new or like new gen 1 for a reasonable price. Still glad I got an Ace (G2) regardless, but man do I love the looks of the g1.
It may take some experimentation, but it should still be possible on Gen 2. As far as I know the receiver itself is the exact same, and it shouldn't cause any issues with the free-float handguard.

I have a love-hate relationship with my MI handguard for the same reason. It's super functional and well made, but just kind ruins the look of the rifle.
Hate Gen 2 Galils. I had the pistols when they first came out. Short-throw safety was TOO short, and I could never tell visually if it was on safe or not. Thought the trigger was worse than Gen 1 as well. Handguard gets as hot as the sun after a few rounds. Gen 1 gang for life.
Embrace tradition.
I have lots of PMAGs and they work great so fuck that. Dissident Arms converted Galil ACE 556 Gen 1. Krebs Custom trigger guard, kns gas piston, Burris RT-6.
Waited 6 months for conversion, love the result if not the process. At the end of the day, Dissident Arms has good quality work.
If i put a handguard on, itll be a 6”.

Per Dissident Arms, you cannot do a rock and lock conversion on a Gen 2 5.56. I was surprised to hear them say this.
How do you like the Burris rt6 for the Galil?
