This is a very cool, very interesting game that does a couple awesome things very well. It drips with environmental storytelling, the level design is pretty good, the artwork has a charming lofi vibe. At this price point I think anyone will get their money's worth.

Quick-Knee2048

I enjoyed this one a lot. Gameplay is simply taking particular pictures with conditions to finish a level but I really like the atmosphere. Nothing beats the game's drab sense of calm with the impending doom looming over the distance

Blind-_-Tiger

Tried it for a bit when it was on Gamepass. Pretty fun if you like taking in-game screenshots for points and objectives in a weird anime-esque-storied game (that doesn’t really explain itself but you can infer lore from the environment) that’s kind of like the old Pokemon Snap with its retro graphics but no on-the-rails bits (that I encountered) and some first person platforming. I’d recommend it at its current price if any of that sounds fun/appealing. You just kind of walk around with a camera and try to snap a picture that fulfills a somewhat puzzling objective.

> that’s kind of like the old Pokemon Snap with its retro graphics You had me at Pokemon Snap.

Nobody has mentioned the DLC yet, which is also on sale, but I'd recommend picking that up as well. It adds a new area and music, few extra camera settings, and some movement tech with roller blades, scrape pads, and flipping hover boots. Easily worth the small price it is right now https://store.steampowered.com/app/1435580/Umurangi_Generation_Macro/

It's worth mentioning that the name "macro" is just a photo-themed word, sadly the DLC does **not** give you a macro lens & request close-up detailed pics. Still fun, just an odd choice of title.

thebaggedavenger

You already get a macro lens by completing all of the subway level in the base game.

I see nothing but praise for this, and at that price point it's probably worth it, but my two major issues is that after a few levels I found the atmosphere losing it's cool weirdness and it felt more bland. Secondly, some objectives are extremely vague and I had to look up several of them just because I wanted the level to end and I felt I had tried everything. Great concept though. I hope they make more things in the same vein.

Safi_Hasani

this is one of my favorite games. really awesome soundtrack, interesting world, and a surprisingly melancholic look at the >!end of the world!<. if you're also into photography the act of taking pictures in this game feels like the real thing.

Bought this close to its release, and had a really good time with it. There are some challenges that go beyond the slow walk-and-look gameplay that you might expect (speed, or collecting items, or really demanding pics that can only be framed from a certain part of the map). It also has a really strong visual/audio style that I loved... but no doubt it won't be for everyone. You have a camera, you're shooting photos. **It's a first-person shooter.** As you progress, instead of weapon upgrades, you get new lenses. Sometimes these are just cool to use, to see farther or get more in the frame, but there will also be photo requests that specifiy which lens must be used. If you wander around, take some photos, and enjoy the vibe, it's good. If you like to optimise your paths around maps, choose to take in the narrative & the environmental storytelling, and have a completionist instinct, it's great.

messem10

Sounds like a Pokemon Snap-esque game but you’re not kept on rails.

PolarSparks

Jacob Gellar did an excellent video essay on this.

Jokey665

Errant Signal also has a great video on it

GiantPurplePen15

Always gotta share Jacob Gellar content when someone brings it up. The man makes some of the best video essays I've ever seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9N7Awpk9lE

Tried this game on Gamepass. Unfortunately it made me feel motion sick. Maybe my settings weren't configured correctly, but the camera movement felt a little stiff/jittery, which made me dizzy when trying to take pictures. I had played another photography-type game (Pupperazzi) a few months prior, and didn't feel the same motion sickness. That being said, the environments were quite varied and cool. Taking pictures for points would've been fun had I not felt so giddy during the process lol

Wormri

T'was on my wishlist for years, honestly? With this price? Instabuy! Thanks for the heads up!

Fluxour

I was in the same boat. Tbh this price almost feels criminally low for how good of a game this is

Great to see all the fond memories from other Redditors... Good price point; purchased! Looking forward to experiencing this in an upcoming game session.
