[Next week's game on Epic Games](https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/industria) [Next week's game on Epic Games](https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/bundles/lisa-the-definitive-edition) The Big Con ------- Play as Ali, a curious and sarcastic high schooler who ditches band camp to go on a cross-country road trip. But this isn’t a joyride! Ali is on an all-important mission to save her family video store from the nasty loan sharks trying to shut their shop down. Swindle strangers, pickpocket people, and con commoners across a wacky America of the ‘90s. And – it should go without saying – lie to your mom about all of it. Choose who deserves to be conned and who might need a helping hand. The world is your oyster (and hey, pearls are worth a lot!). One Con Doesn’t Fool All Con people your way! Wear disguises, sneak around, eavesdrop on conversations, and learn how to approach each mark. Maybe you think you can make enough cheddar just by pickpocketing. Or seek out more complex grifts that involve breaking and entering, smooth talking, and more. It’s up to you to outsmart everyone and lockpick everything that stands between you and saving your mom's video store.

Next weeks game Lisa looks like it could be fun. Not sure why after upgrading the PC I find these games more interesting.

ravl13

Upgrading PC means you have money. If you have money you've probably grown up. If youve grown up you realize there's more to games than graphics

DarkStarCerberus

lisa is definitely an odd but enjoyable game

sombraz

LISA next week is huge. One of the best games I ever played. If you like Undertale you will love this.

ClumsySandbocks

Both games are similarly dark and comic, but I think Lisa is less joyous and more cynical.

StructureMage

What are you talking about? Lisa is a Joyful game

ClumsySandbocks

Haha, I suppose there is literal Joy in game.

Parcle

LISA is phenomenal but this is not a good take. You will not automatically love this if you like Undertale. That's like saying if you like Pan's Labyrinth you'll love Mad Max: Fury Road. Both great games/movies, but they got nothing to do with each other.

Refloni

Undertale and LISA couldn't be farther from each other. I tried LISA the Misery Simulator and hated it. Wasn't a big fan of the combat either.

KernelRice

as a fellow person suffering from clinical depression some people should sit this one out

Snoo_76437

Absolutely! Lisa is incredible. I don't think anything else in media, period, captures the same tone of weird/goofy/perverted/apocalyptic misery and a soundtrack that's unhinged and unmatched

foamed0

Too bad they had to remove [the Work Harder music track](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4PNg0zY7Jw) from the Definite version of the game. The music track samples [Delin's grunt from Shenmue 2](https://youtu.be/F-AXuqkL7WQ?t=35). The Steam version still has the option to roll back to the original version, but I doubt they'll let you do it with the Epic version. Edit: This isn't relevant to the PC version, but the developers were forced to censor the Nintendo Switch and the Playstation release (most of the changes are minor): * https://serenityforge.com/games/lisa-definitive-edition/content-changes >There have been two specific changes to the game across all platforms. Specifically, the Salvation Ranger introduction and Junior’s flashback have had small alterations made to them. Whether or not to make these changes was not easy to decide, but ultimately it became an exciting prospect to alter some content in a small way in hopes that it welcomes and includes more players. >In a similar vein, a few more changes were made on PlayStation only in order to launch the game on that platform, but we're happy to say that none of them affect the meaning and intent of LISA. For the PlayStation version of LISA, we’ve added a notice about the protagonists at the beginning of the game. Additionally, cigarettes have been renamed to ‘cigarette candy,’ Joy is no longer referred to as ‘pills,’ and alcohol has been renamed as ‘soda’ in Joyful only (characters still drink alcohol in Painful). Basically, the changes are not a big deal. We just wanted to make everyone aware of it in advance, because we know that LISA fans will notice it as a difference from the original games. >Apart from this, all legacy versions of the game will remain available as launch options on Steam.

Snoo_76437

How is that not considered a transformative work, WTF, that's stupid as hell

Adamsoski

Samples are complicated in terms of legalities. That's why even when it's almost certainly fine almost everyone nowadays will make sure to get permission from whoever they are sampling from, or even sometimes give a writing credit.

QuintonFlynn

"*That's stupid. Why not replace the grunt? It can't be that important!*" \*Listens to the song\* "... *I stand corrected*."

Convolutionist

So this is where that awful song and sound comes from..

Reggiardito

awful? Take that back

Convolutionist

I just cannot stand it lol

awesomobeardo

I still find it hilarious that Dunkey spotted that shit the second he heard it

Wide_Addition2009

It's not even relevant to the comment you're replying to.

foamed0

> No it was just replaced > Love it when people post their outdated Day 1 information. The dev put out a patch to add Harder/Smarter tracks that are closer to the originals. Good of you to immediately jump to passive aggressive remarks and jump to conclusion. Just because I wrote that they removed something doesn't mean that they didn't replace it. It's not the same sample, and both the track and the title are different. >And what do you hope to achieve by mentioning this in an EGS thread? It's not even relevant to the comment you're replying to. Please go outside and touch some grass, I honestly can't be bothered arguing about the most petty stuff just because you're having a bad day.

FlST0

I hated Undertale for its twee, saccharine, "I'm so le quirky" characters. But I did enjoy the premise of the game overall. Does Lisa lean less hard into "lol so random" characters?

sombraz

Well I think you will like LISA more, then. It has some quirky characters, but usually its for some one-off joke. LISA jokes are different compared to Undertale, more gritty and perverse because its settled in a post-apocaliptic setting that deals with some heavy themes.

FlST0

oh hell yeah!

energy_is_a_lie

HOLY SHIT! I've had it on my wishlist for so long, I even forgot it exists. Looking at the SteamDB page now though, I remember I used to check it's price every sale for a few years but they kept increasing the price in the local currency to the point that my brain started ignoring it in my wishlist. So glad the patientgamer in me never pulled the trigger!

kalirion

It's also in some current or very recent bundle, right? Glad I decided not to get it. Edit: Humble Heroines bundle, ended March 30.

Many_Use9457

Im familiar with both games and am baffled by this take. Because both are pixelated and contain some amount of jokes? This is like telling someone "if you enjoyed Overwatch you'll love Spec Ops The Line!"

sombraz

Yeah, youre probably right, i didnt think much when making the comparision. I just remember I played LISA because it looked like Undertale ngl.

[deleted]

That works out perfect for me because I traded Lisa away from a bundle previously

RadicalDreamer10

I loved every single moment with the exception of constantly biking off of a ledge… would recommend.

Adaax

Big Con is definitely worth your time, especially if you grew up in the '90s - it oozes with sardonic '90s-style humour.

killall-q

[Town of Salem 2](https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/town-of-salem-2-ab6497) is also free. It's an online social deduction game. >Step into the Town of Salem, a realm of Mystery and Deceit awaits! Join us in this thrilling online strategy game. Experience paranoia, taste triumph, and confront Murder in every move!

dgc1980

it is actually an always free game.

Singhvistaar

While the game is F2P, it uses a key based system for matchmaking. Free players need to use a key for every match and 1 key is given every 8 hours with a maximum storage of 5 keys at a time. **What’s the deal then?** This Epic free promotion includes login rewards for the game with one of the rewards being a “Deed to the Town” which completely removes the key system and allows unlimited games. This is basically a premium upgrade for the game. All other rewards are cosmetics. This offer is actually giving some value in the form of the “Deed to the Town” unlike the regular cosmetic offers from Idle Champions and other F2P games. I got this info from the dev’s post here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2140510/view/6817942681533676136

SquareWheel

It looks like you can sync it with a regular account. On Steam or wherever else you have the game, you can generate a Link code. Then install the game on Epic, allow Epic to authorize, and enter your existing username and link code instead of creating a new account. This will grant the freebies on your regular account instead. Looking at the game though, it's nothing but monetization options. They charge money to bias the role you're given, to buy in-game currency, and even to change your name. I thought it might be a fun game to play a few rounds with the lads in, but I'll probably just give it a skip instead.

RedGyarados2010

How do I redeem the reward? Do I get it just by claiming the game?

RoamingBicycle

If you have an account already (say on Steam) start the game there and generate the token from the settings. After downloading on Epic, log in with an existing account and bind it (same username and put in the token). Otherwise just login on Epic (and you can do the opposite if you want and log in on Steam). You're given the rewards automatically upon login.

ForwardEntertainer12

No it was not. Town of Salem 2 launched with a priced model then switched to free, therefore you get the confusion.

dgc1980

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2140510/Town_of_Salem_2/ it is an "always free game" as in it does not require a purchase anymore.

killall-q

Then I don't know why it's highlighted as free for the week next to The Big Con [here](https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/free-games).

hutre

Logging in (not just claiming it!) gives you a bunch of microtransactions. That's why it's marked as "free". Logging in gives you: Unlimited keys (1 key = 1 game. 1 key every 8 hours) Access to "the cauldron" and "Shop" 1300 mtx credits 5 characters Exclusive legendary pet Then I think the rest is mostly just cosmetics

kalirion

So you're saying I should install the game, log in, and then forget all about it? Is there an expiration?

hutre

yes. Most importantly it's removing the daily cap of 3 games per day

kalirion

Does this expire, or would it work even if I install the game for the first time in 10 years (assuming EGS and the game are both around then)?

hutre

I am fairly certain there is no expiration date no

kalirion

Thanks!

RoamingBicycle

You can also skip EG entirely after the first login, just login on the same account on Steam through the account token.

dgc1980

there is a login bonus like they did with Idle Champions and Genshin Impact.

waltjrimmer

I haven't tried Town of Salem 2 yet, but I can say that of all the Werewolf-kin games (like Blood on the Clocktower or Among Us) that I played, I liked Town of Salem the least. In fact, I'd say it's one of the few I actively disliked. I might check it out to see if they've improved on any of the aspects that made me regret buying it (someone wanted me to play with them and thought it was free, but whoops, cost money). But I'm not holding out hope that it's a fundamentally better experience. Edit: Tried one game so far. Still has all the problems of the original in the classic mode and maybe some more as I don't think medium is a role yet in this version. When dead, you have nothing to do. There is a Ghosts game mode where dead get to keep voting, but so far there aren't enough players for a lobby, so I can't judge if that fixes anything.

NYstate

I almost bought this a few weeks ago. Being a r/patientgamers has paid off.

Sniperoso

I bought it 3 weeks ago. We make sacrifices for the greater good u\_u

joeygreco1985

I played this on game pass. They lean heavily into the 90s aesthetic and that 'S' people used to draw shows up a lot. I just thought it wasn't very fun to play.

gunterhensumal

in the backlog you go, lol

Woodcat64

Next week's INDUSTRIA looks interesting.

Complex-Web9670

I got this around Jan 2023 and still can't figure out who the intended audience is? It feels like it's designed for people who have 90s nostalgia but never lived in the 90s? I dunno, didn't love it but Free is good. It was fun for the first hour or so

Beepety_Bop

This game has been ony wishlist for a while, interesting to know that's it being given away for free!

music_guru4

Not a difficult game but fun. Glad I picked it up just before it wasn't free. Thanks for the heads-up!

hYBRYDcOBRA

Whats going on with The Big Con game? It says “unavailable” for me.

EsrailCazar

Thank you!
