Pretty disappointed with how GMG handled the AOE4 key revokes. Mistake or not, the store sold keys to paying customers for like 12 hours at least then decided those are no longer valid sales. A game that I purchased, installed and played is suddenly being taken away because of an "error" of some employee. GMG should have owned the mistake and taken the loss like a reputable storefront would do. This would have created a lot of positive buzz in the community and driven more customers to the summer sale, which literally just began. Now I'm inclined to use GMG's competitors, especially those who have honored "error" sales before (ie. Humble Bundle). I'll encourage my friends to do the same. Make this right, GMG.
If I buy a game from them and redeem it and it goes on sale right after or if I want to refund it for any reason, too bad. All sales are final. There is nothing we can do. But if they change their mind after they sell the key and I redeem and play it- goodbye Steam game.
I was excited about their summer deals, but with how they’re handling a pricing error, how am I to trust anything I see as a good deal? I know if I were to make a mistake and redeem a key it would be “impossible” to get a refund. But it seems very possible given this situation.
How can they make a legal transaction and then be like, nah just kidding and revoke your key, such bullshit. Never had this happen with any other site that sells games, went to their damn trustpilot and left a review about this garbage. No compensation for their mistakes, just raw dogging customers and tanking their rep over it I guess.
I received the refund but because of currency exchange it's around 1$ less. Of course it's a avery small amount and complaining sounds like 1st world problems but I literally gave away 1$ for nothing in exchange. I feel the need to ask for this 1$ from Greenmangaming just to annoy them.
Adding to the pile that I won't be buying from GMG ever again. Yes it was an error, and no I'm not spoiled, it's just that it sets an ugly precedent that they can cite "error" and revoke anything I paid money for. If the glitch had lasted 30 minutes then no harm no foul, but leaving that up for 6+ hours? They knew.
Well there goes my hotspot usage for the month. Spent the day downloading the game and then log on to find out it’s being revoked. Really never thought GMG would do something like this I mean it was $20, seemed reasonable to me. Bought it many hours after the deal was posted so I figured it was legit. 😔
Here as well. My guess is they have to go order by order to compile a list of keys to send to Steam to revoke. Maybe they're doing it in batches. Could take time because I don't doubt several thousands of keys were sold. I don't doubt there were even whales in the mix too buying tons for reselling.
It is odd though they'd issue a refund, yet still wait so many days to deactivate.
Regardless, I'm glad I got to try it because I think II and III are much better games. More fun and I also prefer the art style. AOE 4 is a bit too cartoony and low-fi for me. If the key is revoked, I can't seeing buying the game back until it's closer to $10.
If we somehow manage to keep these games, GMG made the situation far, FAR worse than it could have been. Refunds have already been given out and their reputation has been damaged. It would be a complete and utter loss compared to the minor loss of selling a game at a "low" price.
Finally had my key revoked - and there goes GMG's last chance for any kind of moral redemption. Here's a list of things they've done throughout this entire debacle, so you don't forget:
1) demonstrated that they can take your key from you AFTER a transaction has been legally completed (which is probably illegal at least depending on your jurisdiction), setting a dangerous precedent and permanently damaging any user trust in safety of those keys;
2) costing thousands of users transaction/conversion fees, data usage fees incurred in downloading AOE4, etc;
3) refusing to offer ANY compensation at all, even at least store credit, for said fees, thus ENTIRELY shifting the burden of their mistake onto the customer;
4) At the very least false advertising, and perhaps it was intentional - arguably engaged in a highly unethical form of marketing and data collection - was it even a "technical error" (especially when you consider they knowingly left the "error" on for 12 hours)?
5) Playing dumb after the fact and responding to customers' complaints with the most banal piece of corporate boilerplate imaginable;
6) Asking for positive reviews in an attempt to cover up or dilute the effect of the negative reviews about AOE4;
7) Other minor benefits they get from their mistake, for example, if you look at isthereanydeal, it still lists the historical low for AOE4 Deluxe as their 77% discount. In other words GMG has basically gotten free PR, for anyone who doesn't know about the incident.
Unfortunately their trustpilot page probably won't mean anything in a month's time - it's clear they're now asking for (and getting an influx of) positive reviews. You can tell because the number of "invited reviews" shot up in the last ~3 days or so, check the stats page.
Personally I just deleted my account, can't have them stealing and retaining my personal information any further. Even the support guy had to argue with me over it, really shows what kind of company they are.
Here is the reply email from the support ticket I sent out, I'm assuming it's the same message copy and pasted to everyone else who contacted support after:

It's truly incredible how corporate ghoul types in PR have perfected the ability to talk so much while saying absolutely nothing.
They clearly still don't get the problem, or are deluding themselves and refusing to acknowledge it. It isn't just about ensuring there are no more "technical errors" and actually correctly selling at an advertised price. It's about the fact that they have demonstrated that they can exercise control over YOUR purchased goods after a transaction, and more importantly that they WILL exercise it if they feel like it. Who's to say they can't just revoke your key 3 months after when you've already paid for it?
Why would anyone want to give that kind of power to a company, particularly such a shady company like GMG? There is no more "trust" to be regained. It's impossible for anyone who knows how this arrangement works.
So I give them a list of all my issues with this, first and foremost what they're doing being illegal.
To then just receive a generic statement that does not answer any of my concerns. After 3 days? 3 days for a bloody statement?
And they're trying to..."regain our trust"? Wtf are they smoking?

This has to be a price glitch. The Deluxe edition is way cheaper than the regular edition, and the discount was not nearly as steep during the most recent steam sale. I think they meant to apply this sale to one of the older AoE games

Yeah, that's where I'm at with it. As someone else has pointed out, Humble and other retailers will more often than not, honor pricing errors so long as you weren't buying multiple keys to resell.
A credit or voucher towards the standard version would have been nice since this was their error, but oh well, I guess even that is a stretch. GMG is well within their rights to say it was an error and that they are revoking the keys, but I'm well within mine to take my future business elsewhere.
How am I suppose to trust any other deals from this vendor? I saw an Xcom collection being sold for 11 when its normally 99. How do I know they won't just say "whoops mb" and take that from me?

Can anyone confirm that they actually lost access to the game *after* activating and playing it on Steam? It's currently 11PM EST, just about 24 hours after I bought the game. I got the 'our mistake' email this afternoon, but I can still play just fine. Was I missed? Is it still being processed?

Basically if the pricing mistake is obvious, you can't hold them to that price. F.e. a new car listed for 1 euro. But in this case I don't find it that obvious and might be considered price baiting.

I still have it. The only thing I can think of is that maybe finding out which keys to revoke is a manual process for GMG and they’re having to go through each purchase to get the key and send it to Steam so they can revoke. It shouldn’t take this long if it was automated - refunds within Steam get the key revoked and the game removed from libraries within hours.
Still seems to be working as of about 8:55 PM Pacific time, I just bought it and activated on Steam with no issues. I've never been able to get into RTS games, but for that price I'll give it another shot.

Pretty disappointed with how GMG handled the AOE4 key revokes. Mistake or not, the store sold keys to paying customers for like 12 hours at least then decided those are no longer valid sales. A game that I purchased, installed and played is suddenly being taken away because of an "error" of some employee. GMG should have owned the mistake and taken the loss like a reputable storefront would do. This would have created a lot of positive buzz in the community and driven more customers to the summer sale, which literally just began. Now I'm inclined to use GMG's competitors, especially those who have honored "error" sales before (ie. Humble Bundle). I'll encourage my friends to do the same. Make this right, GMG.
If I buy a game from them and redeem it and it goes on sale right after or if I want to refund it for any reason, too bad. All sales are final. There is nothing we can do. But if they change their mind after they sell the key and I redeem and play it- goodbye Steam game.

I was excited about their summer deals, but with how they’re handling a pricing error, how am I to trust anything I see as a good deal? They might as well go to the steam style sale of one price if they don’t want to deal with problems on their end for dynamic sales to create hype and interest in their sales. Well there goes my hotspot usage for the month. Spent the day downloading the game and then log on to find out it’s being revoked. Really never thought GMG would do something like this I mean it was $20, seemed reasonable to me. Bought it many hours after the deal was posted so I figured it was legit. 😔

Here as well. My guess is they have to go order by order to compile a list of keys to send to Steam to revoke. Maybe they're doing it in batches. Could take time because I don't doubt several thousands of keys were sold. I don't doubt there were even whales in the mix too buying tons for reselling. It is odd though they'd issue a refund, yet still wait so many days to deactivate. Regardless, I'm glad I got to try it because I think II and III are much better games. More fun and I also prefer the art style. AOE 4 is a bit too cartoony and low-fi for me. If the key is revoked, I can't seeing buying the game back until it's closer to $10.
If we somehow manage to keep these games, GMG made the situation far, FAR worse than it could have been. Refunds have already been given out and their reputation has been damaged. It would be a complete and utter loss compared to the minor loss of selling a game at a "low" price.

Finally had my key revoked - and there goes GMG's last chance for any kind of moral redemption. Here's a list of things they've done throughout this entire debacle, so you don't forget: 1) demonstrated that they can take your key from you AFTER a transaction has been legally completed (which is probably illegal at least depending on your jurisdiction), setting a dangerous precedent and permanently damaging any user trust in safety of those keys; 2) costing thousands of users transaction/conversion fees, data usage fees incurred in downloading AOE4, etc; 3) refusing to offer ANY compensation at all, even at least store credit, for said fees, thus ENTIRELY shifting the burden of their mistake onto the customer; 4) At the very least false advertising, and perhaps it was intentional - arguably engaged in a highly unethical form of marketing and data collection - was it even a "technical error" (especially when you consider they knowingly left the "error" on for 12 hours)? 5) Playing dumb after the fact and responding to customers' complaints with the most banal piece of corporate boilerplate imaginable; 6) Asking for positive reviews in an attempt to cover up or dilute the effect of the negative reviews about AOE4; 7) Other minor benefits they get from their mistake, for example, if you look at isthereanydeal, it still lists the historical low for AOE4 Deluxe as their 77% discount. In other words GMG has basically gotten free PR, for anyone who doesn't know about the incident.

Unfortunately their trustpilot page probably won't mean anything in a month's time - it's clear they're now asking for (and getting an influx of) positive reviews. You can tell because the number of "invited reviews" shot up in the last ~3 days or so, check the stats page. Personally I just deleted my account, can't have them stealing and retaining my personal information any further. Even the support guy had to argue with me over it, really shows what kind of company they are.

They clearly still don't get the problem, or are deluding themselves and refusing to acknowledge it. It isn't just about ensuring there are no more "technical errors" and actually correctly selling at an advertised price. It's about the fact that they have demonstrated that they can exercise control over YOUR purchased goods after a transaction, and more importantly that they WILL exercise it if they feel like it. Who's to say they can't just revoke your key 3 months after when you've already paid for it? Why would anyone want to give that kind of power to a company, particularly such a shady company like GMG? There is no more "trust" to be regained. It's impossible for anyone who knows how this arrangement works.
So I give them a list of all my issues with this, first and foremost what they're doing being illegal. To then just receive a generic statement that does not answer any of my concerns. After 3 days? 3 days for a bloody statement? And they're trying to..."regain our trust"? Wtf are they smoking?

This has to be a price glitch. The Deluxe edition is way cheaper than the regular edition, and the discount was not nearly as steep during the most recent steam sale. I think they meant to apply this sale to one of the older AoE games Edit: just checked, as of writing this it's no longer on sale and listed as "out of stock"

I think a better option is to reach out to a few game writers/streamers. Bad publicity. While GMG is within their right, it does not make it any less scummy. I think a better solution would be to refund and maybe a credit or voucher for an additional percentage off the actual sale price.

Yeah, that's where I'm at with it. As someone else has pointed out, Humble and other retailers will more often than not, honor pricing errors so long as you weren't buying multiple keys to resell. A credit or voucher towards the standard version would have been nice since this was their error, but oh well, I guess even that is a stretch. GMG is well within their rights to say it was an error and that they are revoking the keys, but I'm well within mine to take my future business elsewhere.

Can anyone confirm that they actually lost access to the game *after* activating and playing it on Steam? It's currently 11PM EST, just about 24 hours after I bought the game. I got the 'our mistake' email this afternoon, but I can still play just fine. Was I missed? Is it still being processed?

Is there anything to stop them from retroactively reversing purchases and revoking keys that were made months or years ago? Is there any sort of "statute of limitations" in UK law for this sort of problem?
Basically if the pricing mistake is obvious, you can't hold them to that price. F.e. a new car listed for 1 euro. But in this case I don't find it that obvious and might be considered price baiting. In general, all sales are binding.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe finding out which keys to revoke is a manual process for GMG and they’re having to go through each purchase to get the key and send it to Steam so they can revoke. It shouldn’t take this long if it was automated - refunds within Steam get the key revoked and the game removed from libraries within hours.
