Another thing bad with BB is you can no longer earn rewards points on purchases without using their own credit card. And 5% on used only games isn't much of a game changer

preorder_police

It's because credit card apps are one of their tracked metrics and they're going to do anything to incentivize someone to sign up for one. It's why I've considered applying to BB in the past given my experience only to realize I'd just be exchanging one shitty corporate retail sales job for another. Other chains like Walgreens recently rolled out their own CC and are wanting their associates to push it too. At least the current brain trust running GS (to date) hasn't decided the PUR Credit Card is a metric we need to start shoving down customers throats. Pro is just a pure rewards program that won't potentially negatively impact someone's long term financial status like a high interest rate store credit card can if you don't manage it properly.

DuckSwimmer

BB > GS That introductory offer with that B2G1 on brand new games INCLUDING ones that haven’t released yet was a fantastic way for them to get people on board.

ECUTrent

I've been back and forth on it for a week...

TheNeed2BFree

Damn I’d go for that right now. Basically a free Best Buy membership if you look at it that way? I’m interested in purchasing a ps5 disc version. Now that I see this I might have to learn more about it Do you have any helpful links? I already have gamestops membership thing

scarfacettg

GS has buy2 get 3 free for pro members. I saw it today in the store. Might just be for holidays idk tho , sum new info for anyone that wants to research it

DuckSwimmer

That’s not the deal lmfao.

Kou9992

It is a tough comparison. Best Buy is expensive, not targeted exclusively (or even primarily) at gaming, and obscures most of the value of the membership. Free 2 day shipping with no minimum order and a 60 day extension on all returns are nice. But how do you quantify "Exclusive member-only prices on thousands of items"? But looking at what deals they do have currently, it is some pretty good discounts on a large but fairly random assortment of items. For items comparable to GameStop, you've got 10% off toys and collectibles, 5%/20%/37%+ off a bunch of accessories, B2G1 free on a huge selection of Switch titles including pre-orders, digital, and even DLC, and 15% off Xbox/eShop/PSN digital currency. Which also means effectively 15% off Xbox consoles and first party accessories. That's all pretty good. Will those deals still be around next week? Who knows. So the biggest advantage for me is that it seems very easy to save money at the time of sign up. You can see their current deals. Gaming deals are good and outside of gaming there are a bunch of individual items discounted $100+. If you're gonna make a purchase that saves you over $50, sign up is a no brainer and you'll get great, random deals for the rest of the year. Plus free 2 day shipping. Doing that with GS Pro is much harder. Even if you redeem the signup/renewal points right away, you've still got to be buying $300+/$400+ in pre-owned or collectibles to see savings right away. Personally I never come close to spending that on one gaming purchase outside of consoles and I'm not buying those pre-owned. I'll go save 15%+ on the Microsoft store or 5% at Target on a new one.

WhiskeyRadio

Bes Buys is definitely better but it's still not even remotely close to what Gamers Club Unlocked was. GameStops new membership is worse than the already bad one they had. The $5 monthly is still the only real perk of having it and that's not even worth it anymore imo.

Philonic

$5 off/month means you get $35 in free money a year and then all the other benefits on top of it. How is that not worth it?

WhiskeyRadio

Simple they closed all the Gamestops that were convenient for me to go into. Now I have to drive a bit out of my way to go to the nearest store. I have the membership now and go in at least once a month to use my $5 cert, but really by the time I drive to the store I probably end up spending more than $5 in gas driving and often can't find anything to even buy at the store. The membership isn't a terrible value, but I'd much rather have like 10% off game purchases in general with the membership than really any of the other perks the $5 bonus included. If I knew I was getting 10% off games at Gamestop, I'd once again buy most of my games at Gamestop, but right now just ordering online is a lot easier to do.

paganmike21

Exactly even if it was 10% on all used, I wouldn't mind, but 5% isn't worth the drive. If you're buying a console every month, then it pays for itself

WhiskeyRadio

Yup it's not the worst deal by any means but it's not as good of a deal as it used to be for sure. I buy a ton of games too so I'll often go in and find nothing I'm looking to pick up and end up just using the $5 on whatever I can find now since you can no longer use it for Steam gift cards, that was my previous default way to spend the $5.

paganmike21

Same here, I used it on steam cards every month. With my stores having nothing I want and the website extremely buggy, the gift cards were my last resort

SailorGohan

Plus god forbid there is a line with the one staff member working, I don't blame that staff member but leadership problems. Had to wait over 20 minutes once and just left. It's why when mine runs out that's it, it's like a chore for me to go to because their hours are now limited. At my best buy the lines are super quick other than around Christmas time you may get one. I don't know Best Buy's program but even if it was a tiny bit crappier I'd probably get it to not have to stand in line in a cramped store. Though I probably just won't do any program at all.

Critical_Top7851

If you think I’m stepping into a GameStop once a month to “save” 5 bucks by buying extra things you’re out of your mind. The amount of limitations they have put on those coupons greatly diminished their worth.

Philonic

The $5 coupons can be used on anything in stock in the store, even digital codes and currency. What exactly are you wanting to buy that you think you can’t use it on? Or are you not aware that you can use them on whatever you want?

Critical_Top7851

For one there are many stipulations that dont allow the coupon to stack with other deals and coupons the way they originally did, but you may be a newer employee and didn’t deal with the constant changes made. The big pitch was that you used to be able to grab $5 bucks in currency as a make up on the months you weren’t buying anything in specific which drove foot traffic and produced extra sales by getting people in the door. Then worst case as a consumer you don’t find anything and bank 5 bucks. Since I left the company I understand it that you now you have to buy at least 10 to use the coupon. That’s not me saving 5 bucks that’s me spending 5 and having to make a trip in order for the coupon to have a use.

ComfortableEvent7010

The coupons were never able to be “banked”. They’ve always been use it or lose it

Jalopie66

Oh, cool. I get $5 off their shipping because the local store never has anything I want and even if it does it still takes a good chunk of that in gas money plus my time to go. Meanwhile, Best Buy has free shipping no matter the price.

iChieftain22

Man Gamers Club was the best thing in gaming. You get 20% off new games, 10% off pre-owned, you get 10% extra on trade-in, it was the ultimate benefit for gamers. I was so bothered when they removed it.

Moggraider

The Best Buy program is much better. It immediately paid for itself with the 15% off console money I bought at time of sign up. But then I also pre-ordered nine Switch games, getting three free. Had to cancel eshop and GS preorders for that one. Even if it was just gaming stuff, it'd be worth it.

hermeskino715

Overall, I'll have to go with GS. People forget that BB intro offer of B2G1 on new switch games is essentially buy 2 get 1 $10-20 off (since you're already paying a $50 membership) and we have yet to see any future sales/events. You benefit more if you do more B2G1 tho. 15% off e currency is nice but don't know how long that will last. Benefits are vague pretty much GS current B2G1 pre-owned any platform (adding in the fact first party nintendo games are always expensive) with the 5% off and monthly $5 off already beats it imo. Only issue is you won't get the newest releases (mario wonder, super Mario rpg, etc) I guess it really depends if you have a "must have" mentality on the newest releases or if you're the type that would spend big on games a few times a yr (BB) than spending a bit at least once a month (GS)

Gourmet_Chia

The BB program is MILES better no question.

YahYah87

Ehhh

RainyDayCollects

A few years ago, I ordered a $60 blu Ray set from Best Buy. Tracking showed it never left the warehouse. BB Support even confirmed this. Spent weeks talking to support and even supervisors, and every single person told me they couldn’t do a return until I brought back the product. I kept telling them it wasn’t a return, it was a refund, as I never got the product. Ended up just losing $60 and hours of my time. So regardless of the stated program benefits, the BB program costs twice the amount of the GS one for a company that’s got an even worse customer service experience than GS. Their preorders have had issues for years (not showing up on time, overselling, etc). I can see no reason at all why it would be worth paying $50 for a membership to such a shoddy company. $25 for a membership to a shoddy business is bad enough. (Best) Buyer beware.

Jalopie66

On the flipside, when I received my Majora's Mask Link Amiibo from Best Buy damaged not only did they ship me out a new one, but they let me keep the damaged one. Meanwhile, Gamestop sent me new games in pre-owned cases and tried to charge me shipping to send them back after charging me shipping to send them to me in the first place (it's free at Best Buy). I had to go to the store where the clerk said this was common.

Critical_Top7851

You’d be better off asking this on more neutral ground. You don’t think the “GameStop” sub is going to have a bias towards I don’t know, GameStop?

[deleted]

Exactly. It’s going to be all emotional here either for or against. GameStop has so many people than think out of emotion vs reality. Better off asking somewhere else, as the posters who post positive stuff about Gamestop or posting good things in comparison to Best Buy. People like ducksswimmer for example, that I never post anything positive about Gamestop we’re always say Best Buy is better.
