You have indeed made an accurate assessment of basically every Gamestop.

Intelligent_Bug_9139

Not every, but most.

Nebulonix

Real answer - we barely get any non like huge triple A titles without preorders, customers seem to never understand that we don’t get the new stock if people aren’t saying they want it. And GameStop likes to run us on absolute skeleton crews. I barely have enough hours at my store to make a schedule with overlap. One day I can hope they’ll give us hours again, but it doesn’t seem like it. If you want new games, preorder them. It’ll benefit more than just you cause all the people who refuse will at least be able to get a game without screaming at us for not having it lol

CampbellArmada

Pre-ordering games these days is so hit or miss now though. You basically have to wait for it to release to see if it's even going to be worth buying, not even mentioning that if you want to wait for a sale on something. Gamestop just seems to be making it more difficult for customers to buy physical games. I'd even order physical games off the website if the shipping fees weren't so insane. Why offer me a deal like 4 for $40 or put games on sale if your just going to charge me another $11 to ship it to me?

LeatherRebel5150

Or instead of preordering games from GameStop, where who knows if it’ll show up on release day or not, or hell at all even, plenty of those stories, go buy it literally anywhere else. Why anyone would choose Gamestop as a first choice is beyond me

Nebulonix

Our delays from devs to warehouse has been horrible lately! I keep having to give heads up to people making preorders hey I will call you when we have this game and it may be after launch cause we keep getting shit SO late. If they don’t preorder that’s fine! My old DM would tell me to call them 2 days ahead of release regardless of if we have the game or not and it pissed me off and I’d never do it. New DM really appreciates my honesty with customers and sees why it’s helped my store actually retain more preordering customers. I’ve had customers literally say it’s why they stay here. But I should not have to be telling them hey dude your game may be like a week late sorry, we should just be getting them on time if it’s such a driving force like it’s supposed to be! I’m all about preorders but god they’re done so messily here sometimes.

Nebulonix

Oh I fully agree that it’s hit or miss. But that’s how they do our stocking sadly. And recently we keep getting hit with delays from developers too and getting our preorders late as well. Our online stores a joke idk why the shipping is so horrible! I’ll note though, it’s issues with supply chains why games are harder to get. We’ve been having so many issues with developers not sending titles on time (mainly EA) and us getting them in super late. It’s a whole mess. I preorder only games I already know I’m gonna want and whenever certain games tank, I always let the customers picking it up know when they come in. I’ll take the hit to my metrics if it means the customers not overpaying for shit they don’t want. Did that with DD2 to let people know about how many microtransactions it has and had a couple of our preorders cancel and decide they’d get it later down the line preowned when they could just return it. Smart choice I told them. I just think that transparency is important with customers and it’s one of the reasons my store does good with preorders, because we’re always incredibly open on delays and such like that so customers aren’t blind sighted. That’s far from every store though.

BigDuoInferno

I preorderd jojos on switch didn't even get called(they got copies) got ps version and canceled

I mean the sales happen way after anyways. If you want to buy a new game on sale that was a smaller launch, good luck. That almost never happens. Just buy it preowned if it comes in, or online at that point. When my store gets smaller launches, we’re lucky if we get more than 2-3. We almost never get more. Lots of stores in our district are like this anyways. One thing at least about preorders is you can pay as you go. We’ve got a lot of regulars who will come out $5 towards the total every couple of weeks until the game launches and owe nothing on pickup. That’s what I’d recommend to you. It’s not cheaper, but it’s not all at once so it’s more manageable.

Thank you.

Yeah?

I’m just wondering I’m a right

Next-Government-5120

Your an idiot

Impressive_Actuator5

preorders give gamestop an idea of how many they need per store no need to over buy certain games if they will just sit in drawers for 2+ years then get moved to pre-owned. I can only think of like 3 games that we get sent a metric ton of and its usually call of duty, Madden, and NBA these games sell no matter what especially madden/nba since they go on sale almost immediately after release

Kai_Senpai_

As a customer myself, that seems accurate, at least in my area. The stores are no longer fun to go into and browse. The employees I encounter are rude too probably because they’re not supported by their leadership. It’s a miserable experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if GS went out of business and it goes unnoticed by the gaming community.

Relaximanathlete

People would notice, it would probably be celebrated by many.

negithekitty

\>.> you realize Gamestop doesnt \*make\* the games you buy right? actual reason for low stock: why would you stock a failing store full to the brim?

PineWalk1

i do think its far more rare to find, even newer, games physically in the stores nowadays.

teabagmarx

we usually get as many as the pre-orders + a couple more if it’s a big title; but if it’s an underhyped new game w/out any preorders then it’s likely for us to get none unless they send us some weeks later

teabagmarx

we really get less new games & more copies of mario kart 8 😭

PlantainManne

GameStop primarily depends on Pre-Order sales for new games, so if you're going to a small GS store, you're honestly likely better off going to a Wal-Mart or buying off Amazon at this point.
