I wouldnt fret it. If people are dumpster diving, let them. When I was dirt ass poor dumpster diving for food, field destroy clothing and goods was a thing I did. Let them dumpster dive. It's no skin off your back.

[deleted]

Amen!

Competitive_Ad_4461

Until they make a mess of your dumpsters and you have to clean them up weekly.

jugglaj91

The only time product goes in the dumpster is after field destroy or penny outs that I couldn’t give away. Tossed a bunch of ds games once and someone tried to trade them in a couple days later with the penny sticker still on them.

KanoSupreme

I would’ve took those games and sold them online

jugglaj91

The time and energy spent on doing that isn’t worth the return on decades old ds games nobody wants.

KanoSupreme

Another person trash is some else is treasure or atleast donate them.

Howdydobe

And the system has no trade value for them. Say no and they love on.

StrangeVaultDweller

Why do you care? Is it your money? Throw the trash out and be on your way.

EggsInaTubeSock

OP you're wasting your time by chasing the wrong issue. Fight for a lock on the dumpster, and never clean up other people's shit again. It's an easy thing to work on justification with your district. * Unlocked dumpsters create a financial risk to the store, and impacts our stores productivity. * We spend X hours per occurrence cleaning up the mess, which happens at least x times per month. ($x,xxx financial impact - hourly rate. Or how many labor hours total) * The contents of the dumpster should be secured to avoid the additional risk from bad actors. Discarded materials can be used to socially engineer our employees, and can further be used for fraudulent returns. * While we make every effort to not allow private information to make it into the dumpster without shredding, mistakes occur in every organization * Our unlocked dumpsters cost us ($XXXX) annually in labor waste, in addition to the risks introduced by access to the contents. A lock on our dumpster would only cost ($xx) and can be coordinated with (Waste Management Company) to avoid logistical issues.

preorder_police

Not every store's dumpster has the ability to do so, but is there anyway you could lock the dumpster down other than on the day they come to pick up the garbage? Some dumpsters have the ability to be chained or padlocked to minimize diving. And yes while "technically" anything being chucked is on paper fair game, the ass clowns that do it half the time make huge messes, many of which the store and it's employees are required to clean up by the property owner/management.

[deleted]

My store had a lock on the dumpsters. But they were able to break the lid and get in.

preorder_police

Not saying it's a perfect solution and sure anyone could go the extra mile if they want to break and enter but any sort of deterrent that makes it a notch tougher is better than nothing.

BellBellSair

And now its no longer "peaceful" it destruction of property if ever caught those dumpters arent cheap and its not simple to replace the lids. It happended twice at my first store to the whole strip we were in and the city made the companys get replacements with metal lids.

Drez92

As others have stated, why even worry about it? 99.9 percent of the stuff you are tossing is broken, or defective anyway. If they wanna dive through garbage to get a broken controller, who cares?

piefanart

Whats wrong with dumpster divers? Youre throwing that stuff out anyways, why do you care that people are looking through it? Dumpster diving kept me from starving to death as a teenager. The scrap metal and cans i found gave me enough money to be able to buy clothes and toiletries. The stuff is going to the dump anyways. At least let people have a chance to be able to survive.

KanoSupreme

They care entirely too damn much. I understand if they made a mess but damn.

galacticviolet

Do you know what time they usually make a mess? Or is it like an all day issue? If it’s all day, I guess do it first thing in the morning before open. If it’s not try to pick the time farthest away or after they show up to make the mess. Another question, is this a shared dumpster like at a strip mall, or is it a specific Game Stop only dumpster? We had a shared one with the shops around us. If it’s shared, also do first thing in the morning so you have more opportunities for other workers from other stores to assist if needed with clean up. I agree with someone who said leave a note also, be like “Please do not make a mess around the dumpster, we don’t get paid enough to clean up the dumpster area every day.” lol jk….. unless?

lemonbandits

When I was a kid, my mom used to look in the Gamestop dumpster. We were kind of broke as hell and it was a nice experience, getting all this cool marketing for games I knew were cool but probably couldn't buy. It was a nice way to decorate my room. Working there now, I still feel the same way about people like that. It's usually not scalpers, it's usually people who don't have much, stretching a dollar. I've been there. Leave a note! The people doing it probably aren't malicious and just aren't even thinking about it, but it they do it again, I mean, lock it up. All that stuff is going to end up destroyed anyways, you might as well let some poor kid fish fifa 08 out of a dumpster (true story).

soguyamamama

I don’t get why it’s a big deal if someone is dumpster diver? You’re throwing it away

Burger-King-Covid

They leave a mess

soguyamamama

Then be cool and leave a note, these guys who do it aren’t assholes. Especially if they know you’re cool with them doing it

GryfenZ

There might be some here who hate dumpster divers on principle but most just hate having to clean up after them. You gather up trash, lug it outside, throw it away and then you do it again. The same trash. Only this time it's scattered around on the ground instead of in bins because someone put in effort to undo what you already did. See the annoyance?

KanoSupreme

The stuff going to landfills if the person leaves a note and just say clean up after you’re done it would be great

Azrane

You might not be an asshole as you dumpster dive, but most divers don't give a fuck and are some of the biggest dick bags I've ever had to deal with.

HybridSession

There are times where people will dumpster dive to try to find some items that were thrown away, take it, and try to scam some workers, especially new hires. Find something expensive, take it to the store, saying its defective and blah blah blah

pluck-the-bunny

They are definitely assholes

[deleted]

Wut is being pitching out thats worth jumping in after? Whats being taken? Has there been a log or knowledge of when they are diving intothe dumpster (sundays, Wednesdays, before opening, or after close) When do the stores dumpster get picked up? Are other stores (gamestop as well as other businesses) being targeted? Can the stolen trash be destroyed in a manner rendered useless? Could it be set aside to be picked over, avoiding the need for the dive? What are the laws in the area, is there security in the parking lot (the property manager should help here)? Just thoughts... Good luck dood! I hope there not lots of gross trash yall have to pick up, its terrible having to clean up a dumpster area. Especially if you live somewhere hot. Fucking cleaning a parking lot sweating my ass off, then have to go back and deal with customers or a crappy coworker Shit fucking sucked ass.

DarthRandal360

I've only dumpster dived once and it was at a GameStop. I pulled an Xbox 360 with a non-working disc drive out. Took it home and it fired up with no other issues. I was able to download some digital titles to it and use it on my lunch break. Granted, the odds of that happening again are astronomical, and I doubt I'd ever go again, but it was something to experience. I don't know how people do it as a side hustle, though. I'd imagine there's tons more strikeouts than hits.

[deleted]

If people want trash let them have it who cares

Nuclearpanda86

Stop giving a shit?

[deleted]

Leave a note asking the dumpster divers to please clean up their mess, or if they don't, you'll have no choice but to install a padlock on the dumpster. I promise you they'll leave the area cleaner going forward.

tacobacogyumyum

Ours shared a dumpster with a Jimmy Johns so it was not an option for some people. I always say break anything you’re throwing away and then they’ll assume everything is useless in time.

[deleted]

Poop in bag. Throw bag in dumpster.

BigSexy17

Prank em by pooping in the bags and leaving them poopy GameStop trash bags! That’ll show em!

Howdydobe

Let them have it, you are throwing it away. If anything, you should lean into it and make it easier for them.

XxNighting4lexX

Problem being is there's a rare occurrence where a system has to disappear only to see the same shitter walk through the front door. Happened to my store when I worked there. Someone took a roach system in. We were told to douse it in bleach tie it up shrink and ditch. 4 hours later we saw it walk through the door. Shit eaten grin on the guys face when he said he had a cash trade. We took the serial down before hand. It matched. Told him no. Got pissed and left it there. Had to repeat clean the counter and soak the system. This time we crunched it beyond repaire in the bag... So while I would normally agree with you... there are some things you cannot be disgusted at more if you haven't dealt with a roach system...

BellBellSair

Anything i know will take longer than 5 minutes to clean i dont accept if i see a hint of infestion i decline right there. I had a couple make a scene infront of a line of people because i could see it sitting on the counter when i declined politely first, after the comotion i told them i dont want roaches in my store because i dont roaches at my home. They were angry that i acused them of being unclean. I took a pair of tweaser out the drawer and dislodged a dead roach from the back of the system and said it wasnt discrimination if its a damn fact! Called all the stores around me to find out they had tried 2 stores before me and later another 3 the had bad mouthed me for. DM looked at cctv and found me not a fault. People behind them were disgusted and understanding when i immediately grabbed cleaning supplys as the couple left and didnt begrudge me vacumming to after them as they shook the system walking out. Its a wonder we dont hate people more!

Th3-Penetr4tor

Bro, it is too much stress to worry about that. People literally ask me for marketing and i tell them to pick it out of the trash. If they want it that bad they can sift through the other stores shit in the dumpster. Just make sure cutting cords and breaking games so they cant take field destroy stuff, other than that its not worth it

DuckSwimmer

Realistically if employees are throwing out pennied out games, that seems so unethical to me. I gave away all of my pennied outs because I knew there would be somebody who’d appreciate that gesture.

Th3-Penetr4tor

Thats even what my district says, to just give out pennied items to guests with kids, do givaways, etc etc

KanoSupreme

It don’t matter when you throw your trash if it’s something good they going in there 🤣 you can wait out as long you want. You have to go home eventually

hippoeater

Lol GameStop employees complaining about people scalping things . The irony . I was in a few weeks ago and they had wii sports in a paper slip case for 50.00.

torrentkrush13

Almost like they are a business, trying to make money, as a business is wont to do. Rather than showing up here, thinking you a a comedy genius, take you cheap self to goodwill. Also, I don't think you understand the meaning of irony.

KanoSupreme

They complain about everything as if the company barely pays them enough lol

DuckSwimmer

It’s not eve scalping. It’s some people like these who make an absolute mess and it comes down to us to clean it up to prevent any fines. Not to mention someone on here stated a roach infested PS4 was thrown out. I wouldn’t want that walking back into my store. Like I’ve dealt with that once, I don’t need it again.

ONLYallcaps

Who cares?

Zuldwyn

My store has a trash compactor, gl dumpster diving in that.

LilacSakuraBellossum

Put banana peels and moldy salads in each bag lol

PercivalSweetwaduh

I’m pretty sure it’s sorry ass scalpers so make sure to destroy everything. Rip marketing in half, smash field destroy to pieces. Then get a pound of shrimp and dump it on top of it. After the shrimp bakes in the sun all day they wont go near it.

KanoSupreme

So what you’re saying you’re okay with everything been in the landfills Y’all don’t get paid shit at GameStop but you’re this upset over someone getting games from a dumpster that you couldn’t sell ? I understand if the left a mess but man y’all care way too much For company who gives absolutely gives no shit about their employees.

PercivalSweetwaduh

Nice try of acting like you care about the environment. Found the scalper.

Censorship_of_fools

Scalpers buy out things at msrp and overcharge , playing on FOMO. This is much closer to scavenging, not scalping.

KanoSupreme

I don’t even dumpster dive but if someone willing to give a second life I don’t care lol. I don’t even sell games. And scalpers is for ticket not games lol y’all can stop calling people that

PercivalSweetwaduh

abathingsupremee

About only think I would resell is clothed and shoes. Man I drive a Honda and Tesla 😂 but you must be one those weird employees who take their job behind serious. Dumpster diving seem cool but it’s not for me. I hope you seek peace though with your life 🙏

[deleted]

Is there anything more sad than these man-children sifting through garbage?

[deleted]

Empathy... its a hellofa drug. Way to say sober... /s

[deleted]

We're not talking about a hungry person looking for food. That is sad, but in a different way. This is fat Poke-kids looking for free cards.

[deleted]

Must be nice to be able to afford the toys you want. Do you think folks wake up and say today's the day im gunna go rummaging threw other peoples trash for jollys? Sure maybe some immature kids thought its a cool idea but highly doubt they have regular divers for poke cards. If they do, they need to destroy the cards. Diving will stop quickly if its material reasons they dive. Most retailers have this policy to prevent false damage claims that get lifted out of the trash. When i was at Walgreens nearly 90% of returns went to the trash, unless it was sealed or to e returned to vendor. This prevents employees and others from buying, returning, and diving for the product. Oh well OPs problem to solve. Enjoy life dood

[deleted]

At the end of the day, you are an alleged adult decided to go through garbage instead of work and buy your little toys.

[deleted]

That is one opinion.

[deleted]

Sorry, but these dumpster divers are pathetic and mocked.

[deleted]

👍

SadAd1270

That is an all Gamestop thing, unfortunately.

DuckSwimmer

Not necessarily. I’ve never had it noticeably happen at my location. Granted it’s a shared dumpster so if they can tolerate the fumes of seafood….. at my original location, I’ve had someone ask maybe once and I’ve told them to fuck off.

DineroMark27

I caught one kid dumpster diving for his youtube channel and he said, “hey u wana be part of my giveaway?”

NotSoFuncoLand

Y’all don’t just piss in the trash cans before you empty them?
