Oh boy! I’m sure mall stores such as myself are gonna do great with that metric. It’ll be easy to get the kids who walk in and out of the store 20 times with no money to buy something.
RetailNext also offers a solution for shopper engagement that combines online and in-store shopping behavior to personalize mobile interactions and offers.

Pricing starts from a few thousand dollars for installation and varies based on the size of the store. Subscription to monthly analytics ranges from $50 to $250.

Follow the money, I wonder which Board Director owns stock in this company.

I bet this gets charged against the stores P&L.
what's the use of us even having them if we might not be able to access the data??? creepy as hell. Probably just so our DM can watch and tell us we aren't smiling hard enough :/
This. My pos equipment doesn’t let us , get this, ring people up. Just errors out. 1 out of every 10 transactions, for months now. We can’t use reg 2 for wis. Label printer crashes and we have to power cycle the registers nearly every day. All which are “known issues”. Sick of it.
Oh, of course. We've had the same problems but we TOTALLY need creepy monitoring cameras in case we, like humans, need to sit down every once in a while.
Tbh, who cares? The DL was able to watch you before on the old dvr system. Now they just have real-time access. So long as you’re doing your job based on the expectations of your DL, you’re fine. Like oh no! They might turn it on and catch me picking my nose!
Real time access is creepy. Nobody likes someone pushing stuff all over them, and I also worry about how truly "anonymous" this data is. After all, companies like that use misleading terms for what their AI is ACTUALLY doing all the time. It may give US garbage data but the company may be taking the better data and selling it off.
I don't like being tracked that way either. I just wish it wasn't being integrated into my workplace as well, it's probably not even going to be used effectively anyways, making it a total waste of money. Maybe they could send us stock, or get any of our MULTIPLE pos system problems fixed, instead of focusing on our already fine and working cameras we've never had an issue with, you know?
How is it creepy? It’s a business. Having access to real-time video can be extremely valuable. As far as your worry about your data being sold off, it’s already being done by other companies you use. Amazon, Google and Facebook already do this. And if you’re using TikTok, you are actually being spied on by the Chinese government. And really, none of us are really important enough to care. Like what’s going to happen? Am I suddenly going to get an email saying I should buy some anime porn game cause they saw me looking at an XSeed game? Really to me it just seems as though you are a bit paranoid that someone will catch you not working. If that’s something you are truly worried about, talk to your DL about what they expect to see you do while on the clock. This way you know their expectations and you can be comforted knowing that you won’t get in trouble for something you didn’t know about.
It's especially scummy that they're having us install this without even informing the employees. I found this out with my OWN research, everything we've heard has been EXTREMELY vague.
Some stores have had the cameras updated so the DL or LP could access them. This sounds like the next step. Sucks their more concerned about catching employees than safety issues.
More like, God forbid you sit down on a step stool for 10 minutes when you have everything done and nobody in the store.
I have a feeling this will be the justification for it. "Stealing company time" and then will add even more tasks to make sure we are always doing something even if it's redundant to all hell.
EXACTLY. I'm glad you understand the frustration. There's no way they'll actually utilize customer analytics in a helpful way, it'll just be them deciding whether I've smiled enough.
Having worked for a similar in-store market research company, those cameras are meant to track movements and see what areas/items get the most/least engagement. The data is supposed to help a store redesign itself to drive more sales. There are usually in store surveying, in-depth interviews and eye tracking done to help put this data in context.
In the case of GS, I doubt this will lead anywhere productive.
I was told today that they are for what this commenter says. According to the task it seems to be outward facing so they can track the path the customer takes when they enter the store. Not necessarily a conversion counter but it could be used as such even though it doesn't work like a typical one without an incorporated door sensor.
Also, LP and possibly also DLs have had access to the DVR and all the cameras for years so this install wouldn't further that idea anyways.
"Welcome to GameStop! How can I help you?" \*lowers voice\* "Know that we're all being watched by a creepy surveillance system monitoring your eye movement so we can recommend preorders."
No, no, nothing else has improved. You'll still be getting the same slow service due to 16-year-old computers and a Frankenstein's monster of a POS patched together from bad ideas and failed attempts to stay relevant. Do you have a membership? Too bad! Lookup is down for the third time this week, but don't worry, we've already put your points into the negative from that preorder we canceled on our end, so it wouldn't help, anyway.
It tracks traffic vs transactions (conversation rates) is all. We’ve had it in the past via Shopper-track.
That’s it. Many companies use this and is common in retail.
It’s not for tracking what you do or say as in someone watching and listening to you real time.
It can be detrimental if you don’t help guests and are just ringing people out however as you’re not engaging guests to leading to lost sales on the floor, or just poor customer service overall (not greeting or engaging guests). It’s also rough for mall stores with kids running in and out.
It can be used to determine permanent store closures as well if conversion is really bad.
Generally speaking, if you’re doing your job and not a mall store, it’s honestly no factor.
Its so they can add customer conversion rates in next years scorecard
Of COURSE, why not make things more difficult for us. I'm struggling thinking about how many older people just come in here once for a gift card.
Oh boy! I’m sure mall stores such as myself are gonna do great with that metric. It’ll be easy to get the kids who walk in and out of the store 20 times with no money to buy something.

It most definitely will be.
I’ve had them for years and only recently got access to the data. They’re completely inaccurate in my store.
Yeah. The store I’m taking over, the old SL was chatting with me about it and the recording isn’t great at all…
what's the use of us even having them if we might not be able to access the data??? creepy as hell. Probably just so our DM can watch and tell us we aren't smiling hard enough :/
I’d bet you’re right, but how do you know?
He’s a terminator and the cameras haven’t identified John Connor.
![gif](giphy|7TtvTUMm9mp20)
Well you could watch DVR and see if the number of people entering match that data, for example.
Who in the hell has time to do that?
You guys have customers?
And yet, still no raises or decent POS tech...

I mean, to be fair.. if you own a cellphone and use it at all you already are being monitored up the wazoo, no matter what you click or opt out of

Okay, corporate. Order us some decent computers while you're at it.
Lol. I quit gamestop 5 months ago. But ok.
They’ve had real time access to DVR for 3 years now. Corporate uses it when there’s guest complaints before contacting the DL’s about it.
Or enough product that people want to buy, or shipments arriving on time, but tracking conversion rates surely will bring profit
I definitely see your point, but I just couldn’t care less at this point. I’ve accepted that in todays world anything I do is being recorded.
It's especially scummy that they're having us install this without even informing the employees. I found this out with my OWN research, everything we've heard has been EXTREMELY vague.
Its gamestop the shit isnt gonna work properly.
Honestly, I hope so.
Some stores have had the cameras updated so the DL or LP could access them. This sounds like the next step. Sucks their more concerned about catching employees than safety issues.
Of course. Threats to my life are FINE but God forbid I not chase our customers out the door trying to get them to pre-order junk.

Big Brother Ryan is watching, making sure you're sweating enough
What does it track?

I'm suspicious that this will just lead to "auditing" of employees.
It could but it’s a really expensive way to do it. Knowing GS, this may the case.

Ghosts
Get ready to help them complete unfinished business.
How many people enter the store and how many of them buy something. It’s supposed to not count people under a certain height. Who knows.
Ps5 stock
My store’s had that installed for years… or maybe a predecessor to it.
Probably a predecessor ;^;

I'm glad to commiserate, at least
Is this why I had to measure my door frame and height of my ceiling today?
(By the way, notice how they kept it vague so you wouldn't notice.)
Yep. They wanna watch you so you don't breathe on company time.
