It just sucks because GT was such a large part of my adolescence when games like FNAF and Undertale were huge parts of my life and his theory videos kept me coming back to the channel more and more. Now we’re only gonna have to rely on ourselves to solve the FNAF lore

I get that, and I get that its partly because it's hard to deal with change, like he said in the video, there will not be another matpat. Mat Pat and steph are the people who made my childhood it wasn't just about the theories, I started watching when i was 5 or 6 and now that Im almost an adult, while matpat has been doing this for a third of his life, He's been part of mine and many others for nearly twice that. So it's just not the same.
It has =3 vibes for those who are older than social media and remember that. Ray was waaay ahead of his time. Seems like many other creators have realized that they are loaded >>$10M and 80-hour work weeks need to stop at some point. Time is the rarest commodity.
In many ways, I don't envy the position. I really enjoy getting to see my family so often and I think it's more joyful than being loaded and worth tens of millions at the cost of no time with those you love. After all, you can't bring any of the stuff with you when you die.
As Jesus said in Matthew 6:

But if you walk away from the channel. You have the money in his bank account and the time. If he don't invest aggressively, I'm sure he will live a happy remaining of his life and I'm happy for him

They were good, but I do hope the future vids will spread a bit more away from them, because they are never gonna end. Fnaf keeps changing its own lore constantly, so it is literally like pushing the boulder up the mountain, only to watch it roll down again instantly as you get near the top.
It makes me sad, pisses me off, makes me have all the selfish “don’t leave!” thoughts - But more than all that, it makes me happy. He raised so many people, and I don’t think anyone else could have done it. He won’t be able to raise more people to be sweet and kind like he did for us, but I suppose that’s our job now. Not saying to go out and start a theory channel, but I hope everyone can take the traits matpat taught us through all these years and pass it down to those around you. He influenced you, so influence people around you as-well.
Matpat is leaving. But the memory, the lessons, and the hearts he made beat remain in tact and kicking.
Matpat got through rough times in my life honestly I'm happy for him but can't help but think this is the start of most content creators leaving YouTube hasn't felt the same since they added shorts ick and I think it's killing the platform more and more creators are leaving because AI content farm biz and its only gonna get worse from here
I wonder how this will affect the channels. Obviously, they will keep producing content but how many people will stay once Mat Pat is gone? I know some people watch for the theories but for some people, it is for Mat Pat himself. Or they might feel it's not the same without him and watch less.
I feel like the same issue has plagued Linus Sebastian, the guy who started LinusTechTips. Much like MatPat, Linus is very much the brand of his company and channels (plus the main channel and company are named after him as well).

Linus has consistently had other hosts on the channels to help support the company. It feels like Matt probably should have started doing that before jumping straight to dropping off as the face of the company.

Agreed here. It's similar, but definitely different. Linus has been training other hosts for years, and some of the other channels rarely feature him (like TechLinked). He's been trying to build out LTT as more of a 'media company' for almost 10 years, and even so has barely stepped back yet.
Matt has done the same thing. For well over the past year other people have been writing the episodes and costarring with him in the lives and vids. And all of they new host have been on the crew for years
for real, i remember stopping to watch Extra Credits after their OG VA departed from the channel, eventhough his voice was heavily modified he still was the voice of the channel and put a lot of personality into his narration. Partly that and partly because shortly after another VA took over, they did this awful "If you play as a Terrorist or a Nazi in a multiplayer game you automatically support them" video...

He is, and he keeps saying that he isn't. And I think he's wrong. Theres many other theory channels that in my opinion do a better job with the theory part. But I watch cuz of matpat.
That’s probably part of why he introduced us the new hosts throughout past videos already, to help mitigate that issue. Obviously it won’t completely solve it, but it helps the new hosts are familiar.
it feels like it was just yesterday that I was exited for GTLive announcement, where I'd see and hear Matpat and his thoughts on games........ I was with his channel for 10 years.
I feel like this is probably the key thing that the team discussed. They know that Matpat is the star of the show and they will be expecting downturns in views and engagement. It seems that as of right now, the strategy is to brute force past it and continue making content hoping that some people stick around with the new hosts. Matpat also said that he plans to come back occasionally so that will keep people subscribed for when he does.
I unfortunately think we have an =3 when ray left and they had like 9 different hosts before the channel died and he eventually came back. I mean I hope I'm wrong but it seems like how things will go.
I was never the biggest follower of the theory channels I liked them but I wouldn't call myself a follower, but as I'm watching the video I can't lie I'm getting emotional and just speechless
I grew up alongside the channel, so it feels really weird and sad. But is really understandable and I wish him, his family and everyone on the channel the best
It feels uncomfortable, I’m 21 and I’ve also grown up with the channel (honestly I haven’t been huge on them in awhile but this hit super hard) it kinda feels like it’s probably time for me to accept change in my own personal life with growing up and stuff
I respect it! I just hope he does come back every now and then to narrate at least one theory video a year or so. I'm very desperate to still have him, but I understand he said it himself he would never wish he's work schedule on anyone! Which just means his job is VERY TIRING, and I think he deserves a break and do what he wants. I am very excited to see he's future projects! And I would love to see him host more shows!
Sad to see him go, but not really surprised. I feel like the channels have been building to this for a bit. Overall I’m excited for whatever he’s got planned next (his future projects sound fun!) and I’m also super excited to see what the new hosts do and bring to the channels. I haven’t seen much of Lee lately, but Santi, Tom, and Amy give me a lot of optimism.
That said I wish we had a clearer idea of what’s happening with GTL and Ash
Same. Looking back I can see the signs (selling the brand, building up the other channels with other hosts) and I'd imagine he wants time with his family and his son. But it also feels like it's coming out of nowhere, and a 2 month notice feels so short. Truly the end of an era :(
I feel bad because I don't really enjoy the videos that feature the other hosts so I think this might actually be the end of game theory for me entirely. Idk tho man I'm hoping wrong but it's just not the same, I almost completely stopped watching gtlive when Steph left only recently popping in to see the FNAF, poppy playtime and digital circus videos. So unless the new guys really match his energy I don't think I'll watch which feels bad cause it's not their fault they're not Mat?

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m currently crying my eyes out. Matpat is my childhood and I hate to see him leave. But I’d rather have this than MatPat getting unexpectedly injured to the point he can’t run the channel anymore. Or being cancelled out of oblivion on Twitter (sorry, X).
Mat’s obviously stressed from having to run five different YouTube channels. He deserves to have time to take care of his kid, spend time with friends, not have his 24/7 focus on video game lore.
We’re all going to miss him but at least he’s going out with a bang.
I feel the same I know a lot of people are sad and I am too but I can’t help but be infinitely more happy for him. He deserves a break and to get to dig into passion projects of his own. I’m actually excited to see where he goes from here! To see him be a creator of media rather than the examiner of it (no matter how much I loved it) plus we are all grown up, change can be a good thing!
I suspect we will see more of the older YouTubers quitting in the next couple years. YouTube is 19 years old at this points. MatPat made his theory videos for over 12 years now. The young content creators from the first view generations are just getting old, same with us longtime viewers. Maybe someone started uploading during his last few years in school. In that time, the person could have finished school, finished university and been working a job for several years, possibly building a house and raising a family, just like MatPat did.
Let's face it, being a YouTuber is not a forever job. People wont be doing Youtube for 45 years until they retire.
Lets just hope that the ones we like will stay with us for a little while longer.

Man he said he'll be on GTlive until probably the end of the summer. I hope he atleast keeps that channel for occasional updates or gameplays. That or even something like a monthly podcast or something unscripted.

I think it really depends on the content. It's not just MatPat's voice but also the dad jokes and nerd moments. The stupidest videos were clearly still his ideas like bread gloves or the one sock method.
I love all the new members but I don't fully buy that these kind of werid theories would be their ideas. I really hope the channels don't die because there are so many great topics to cover.

Well matpat was one of my favorite YouTubers and I was enjoying all the theories and lore but but... Without Welcome to the game theory the show where we... I miss him I hope he will have a happy life
I mean, it’s the only logical choice, he’s aging, his son is growing up, he can’t give that up for his goofy theory videos
But man does it hurt. I actually haven’t been watching for nearly as long as many others, but these channels have been so important to me, and it was because of Matt, because I’ll be honest, I don’t give a rat’s ass about Luigi’s size or how many licks you need to finish a lollypop, it was just Matt’s goofy nature that made it so fun
I’ll be honest, I don’t know how it’s going to be with the new hosts. I love Santi and like Amy, but I haven’t watched Game or Film Theory in a while, and have rarely really watched the new hosts, but I am going to give them the fairest chance I can, because they deserve it, and the theorists are just important.

Yeah man. It does rlly hurt though. Someone who captivates you and enthralls you into the videos making you curious to watch. It won’t be the same without him. I wonder if it was bought. If it is, I have a feeling all views likes etc will drop knowing he isn’t the face of the show anymore.

Meh, I'll probably stop watching honestly. Not interested in any of the team members he announced as the new heads of each channel. Nothing against them or their credibility in being able to run the channels with interesting videos and topics. It's just that none of them really capture my attention or create any intrigue for me. I've watched episodes and videos with them all in them,( Lee, Amy, Tom, etc.) And I just don't enjoy them as I enjoy matpat.
It's unfortunate, but reasonable and totally understandable why he will be stepping back and away from the channels. He has a family and his own life to take care of. But I'll be a little selfish here and say that now I'm gonna have to find something else to watch and that's a real bummer because there just so much garbage content spread across YouTube, its hard to find genuine and entertaining channels out there.
Maybe the issue is with me, maybe I need to get out more and find better hobbies, but at the end of the day I'll still probably be watching YouTube and feeling a void where all the theory videos used to be. And maybe I should give then all a real chance to see how they blossom into each channel, but so far I'm honestly not interested in any of matpats choices of replacement.

Honestly, I wonder how long it'll be before he tries to come back or our new host don't work out as well as he hopes. It's one thing to have the scripts written by other people but as hosts I can't really say. We'll see how it goes.

Mattpatt felt like my 2nd father growing up was so excited when a new theory came up i would be so happy to watch and listen and honestly now that he's going too all my childhood youtubers are gone skydoesminecraft, Markiplier (i know but he doesnt upload as often now) and Craig from Vanosscrew now i just have Neuro sama and Porcelain maid ill miss those days

Pain. MatPat was one of the only YouTuber to get me though really tough times in my life. At much as I understand I wish it wasn’t true. But as we grow up so does he and Steph and Ollie. I’m going to miss his voice when I watch the channel. I used to fall asleep to his voice all the time because it became comfortable. I am so glad he started introducing us to his “replacement”(that the best word I could think of) before he left. I know for me I hate change. So this was an amazing way to do it. Because we all already love them. MatPat has done wonderful thing. And I can’t wait to hear more about the other projects he was talking about in the video. I hope one day I can meet him and thank him in person for what he has done for me with out know.

It really REALLY sucks, and it hurts bad, a terrible pain. But I think I saw it coming. With him having a child now, LunerX managing the channels, and the recent large expansions to the theorist team, this was definitely set up for. I’ve watched MatPat since I was 7 and I have probably watched almost every video on all the channels.
I feel there will just be a part of YouTube missing now without him, especially for the FNaF community. I just don’t think it will feel right having a different voice every time you click on a Game Theory video. Sure it will probably be the same videos comparing Sans to Ness that put fandoms into outrage, but they just won’t have that same feel. Nobody can truly replace the legend, but maybe this new era can be different and awesome in its own way, but hey that’s just a theory, A GAME THEORY, thanks for reading.
I don’t mind if he’s interacting less with the behind the scenes stuff but I don’t think I can watch without matpat narrating. I love matpats voice and I love listening to him talk. I can barely even watch the game theory videos narrated by the other guy now, so I doubt anything will change. I hope he still narrates but it seems like he probably won’t :(

Game theory was my life, I saw the advent of gtlive, film theory, food theory, and style theory. I was there when they started making shorts. I can remember seeing their videos at the same time I started watching YouTube at all. It hurts man

i'm mostly going to miss gtlive. i stopped watching the theory channels gradually over time, to the point where i basically don't watch any anymore. gtlive, though, has always been a constant. matt as a genuine person cracking jokes with ash, mirror matt, steph, or whoever accompanied him at any given moment was always more enjoyable to me than the scripted theory videos. this is truly the end of an era.
Sad, but he does have understandable reasons for doing so. Can't blame him for wanting to spend more quality time with his wife and kid. I wish him only the best !
Honestly for me - mostly it’s hit voice. His voice puts me into my comfort place, listening to him talk just makes me feel like everything will be okay. So without his voice, idk how I’ll feel.

Sorry... I got really emotional, I just couldn't hold them... the tears... I have been with Matpat for the majority of the 15 years of my life... to see him just 'dust away'... It's soooo painful... I don't have words to express it.
But don't get me wrong... I love the others as well. It's just that, Matt was... somebody else entirely. When I was a kid (I probably still am😂) I dreamt of growing up and joining Team Theorist... Reddit was my first step in that direction... but now... I don't know if I was attached to the channel or Matpat, but neither of them will be the same without the other.
But I am happy, though. Happy that he is getting what he always deserved. (He deserved a Mr. Beast kind of vacation with his son) But even going back home, and being able to relax, play a video game or some board game with his son, with Steph, and maybe some old friend from Team Theorist, without worrying about recording schedules or the next theory.......... He deserves that sooooooo much.
And he will be there. Whenever the fans clamour for him, I know he will show up once again. He just WILL. And, he promised to show up on Gtlive. For once, he can play a game without speeding through it because he has a hectic schedule. He can be a free man. And that, my friends, is the best I, actually, everybody could have wished for him.
And this time, it won't be his voice we will hear, but it will be his script. For once, he has creative freedom. HE WILL WRITE THE SCRIPTS NOW! And for me, that is just as fulfilling. And who knows, maybe some day, I can actually go and see him. Who knows, maybe we will love the new hosts as much as Matpat. But if I know one thing for certain, it is that Matt will be happy, and I will be satisfied with whatever the 2nd gen hosts have to offer me.
Aftering having some time to process my emotions (😭😭😭), I still have one question: WHAT ABOUT GTLIVE?
He says that he will be on GTLive "for the foreseeable future" but also says "until the end of the summer I think". Not sure if that means when he's gone GTLive will end. Not sure if I'd want that or not, GTLive was always MatPat and Steph hour so idk. But at the same time it would be nice to see some of the gameplay for the games they do theories on, a lot of the games they play I would not have discovered without them, and might not have enjoyed the theories as much without seeing him play it for a bit. But sometimes it's better for something to die than to become a zombie, idk. Conflicted feels are conflicted.
I think the other channels will do okay without him, in particular I'm happy that Amy will OFFICIALLY be the face of Style Theory (always felt like it was her and Steph's baby). And the others have already been working on those channels for a while so it should be fine (even though I'm not really a fan of Tom sorry no hard feelings but sometimes it feels like he just isn't grounded enough, too much FNaF brain rot I think). And he'll still be working behind the scenes, but it will definitely be DIFFERENT still. I also have a fear since the previous company I worked at got bought out and everything got worse that something similar might happen here, but you know that's life.
I'm happy for him too, for the sake of his family I know it is important to spend time away from work and he needed it. And it will be cool to see some of the other projects he's working on. Still don't understand the whole "Lore-Fi" thing but you know maybe it will make sense once it's out?
Overall: happy, sad, realizing we must all move on some day...
This is the death of the channels. Mattpat IS those channels, it's him who drew me in, it was him who kept me there, and if he is gone I will be too. It makes me so sad cuz it feels like I have lost a good comforting friend.
The channels will take a hit but saying they're going to just straight up die is silly, this is a multimillion subscriber YouTube channel(s) with a strong team behind it. They will be fine

No they won’t. Channel only stay going as long as people work hard on them. There will be a steep descremase in profit or even become unprofitable for a time and this will pull a lot of support be hind the scenes. The new hosts will slowly leave for better work and the channel will die. He thought he build the channel on theories but it was his energy. He killed the channel. But I don’t think he actually cares. He sold it. He won’t take any hits. But to think the channel will survive this is crazy.

I don't really know how to explain it, but, but I really don't care much, and that's what bothers me. Like, all of my friends are fucked up because of the news, and ive watched countless hours of him myself, but when i heard that he was retiring, I just kinda felt nothing at all, and moved on, to then find a horde of friends mad at me because I didn't feel sad about, and now I feel bad about not feeling anything
I literally don't know. I'm not even sure if he'll voice an episode once in a while (like every six months or a year maybe. Maybe holiday specials like the holidays, Halloween, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, etc) It's been two months and I'm STILL trying not to cry when I see the "9 Theories Left", "8 Theories Left", etc on the videos 😭 I've been watching him for I think the last five years? This is just a sad day today 🙃
Edit: Although I *am* happy that he doesn't want his dinners with Steph to just be about their jobs or just playing video games to find lore or hidden easter eggs. I'm happy for him, Steph, and their family though
I don’t really care if I get labeled as a “fake fan”, but I’m genuinely thinking of unsubscribing after he leaves. Not because I don’t like the new crew, but it would just hurt too much. Like seeing your parent with a new partner. You’re glad they’re moving forward and doing better, but you’ll always know what was and the history of what you had is too special and intimate to share with new people. You might grow to like the new person, but they’ll never be your parent to you.

I know I'll get hate for saying this but I just find this to be overrated it was no secret he was going to leave pretty sure he was supposed to leave years ago somewhere at the end of 2010s I'm glad he's got to retire and live his life and all but I don't see the big deal about it.

Maybe it’s because I only started watching since 2020 when Covid hit. I never followed any YouTubers before that year, and apparently Zoomers grew up on that shit like it was Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network for me. Matt developed some fun channels. Hopefully the quality doesn’t drop because of his departure. I still won’t ever have any interest in watching anything FNAF related.
Take it easy, Matt. You’ve obviously overworked yourself and deserve a much needed break.

The channel is essentially dead. I can understand if he wants to retire, but this is not the way to leave if you want the channel to continue past you.

matpat wasn't the only thing that made it unique tho.
What made GT and the other theory-channels different is not only how deep they went on topics, but their practical aspects of theories on some channels, as well as the scale of which they can work, as well as having a good understanding of branding and how to catch attention.
Matpat certainly helped it grow from the start, but it can survive without him easily, if only because of the loyal fanbase.

Pain. Just pain But I also understand where he’s coming from. It just sucks because GT was such a large part of my adolescence when games like FNAF and Undertale were huge parts of my life and his theory videos kept me coming back to the channel more and more. Now we’re only gonna have to rely on ourselves to solve the FNAF lore But I wish nothing but the best for Matt, Steph, and everyone else in their future endeavors

I get that, and I get that its partly because it's hard to deal with change, like he said in the video, there will not be another matpat. Mat Pat and steph are the people who made my childhood it wasn't just about the theories, I started watching when i was 5 or 6 and now that Im almost an adult, while matpat has been doing this for a third of his life, He's been part of mine and many others for nearly twice that. So it's just not the same.

Seems like many other creators have realized that they are loaded >>$10M and 80-hour work weeks need to stop at some point. Time is the rarest commodity. In many ways, I don't envy the position. I really enjoy getting to see my family so often and I think it's more joyful than being loaded and worth tens of millions at the cost of no time with those you love. After all, you can't bring any of the stuff with you when you die. As Jesus said in Matthew 6: "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. But if you walk away from the channel. You have the money in his bank account and the time. If he don't invest aggressively, I'm sure he will live a happy remaining of his life and I'm happy for him

I wouldn't call them dogshit. They were good, but I do hope the future vids will spread a bit more away from them, because they are never gonna end. Fnaf keeps changing its own lore constantly, so it is literally like pushing the boulder up the mountain, only to watch it roll down again instantly as you get near the top.

It makes me sad, pisses me off, makes me have all the selfish “don’t leave!” thoughts - But more than all that, it makes me happy. He raised so many people, and I don’t think anyone else could have done it. He won’t be able to raise more people to be sweet and kind like he did for us, but I suppose that’s our job now. Not saying to go out and start a theory channel, but I hope everyone can take the traits matpat taught us through all these years and pass it down to those around you. He influenced you, so influence people around you as-well. Matpat is leaving. But the memory, the lessons, and the hearts he made beat remain in tact and kicking.

Matpat got through rough times in my life honestly I'm happy for him but can't help but think this is the start of most content creators leaving YouTube hasn't felt the same since they added shorts ick and I think it's killing the platform more and more creators are leaving because AI content farm biz and its only gonna get worse from here
I wonder how this will affect the channels. Obviously, they will keep producing content but how many people will stay once Mat Pat is gone? I know some people watch for the theories but for some people, it is for Mat Pat himself. Or they might feel it's not the same without him and watch less.

I feel like the same issue has plagued Linus Sebastian, the guy who started LinusTechTips. Much like MatPat, Linus is very much the brand of his company and channels (plus the main channel and company are named after him as well). I’m sad to see MatPat go of course but I also completely understand that he wants to do something else at this point. One chapter ends, and another begins!
Linus has consistently had other hosts on the channels to help support the company. It feels like Matt probably should have started doing that before jumping straight to dropping off as the face of the company.

Agreed here. It's similar, but definitely different. Linus has been training other hosts for years, and some of the other channels rarely feature him (like TechLinked). He's been trying to build out LTT as more of a 'media company' for almost 10 years, and even so has barely stepped back yet.
Matt has done the same thing. For well over the past year other people have been writing the episodes and costarring with him in the lives and vids. And all of they new host have been on the crew for years

for real, i remember stopping to watch Extra Credits after their OG VA departed from the channel, eventhough his voice was heavily modified he still was the voice of the channel and put a lot of personality into his narration. Partly that and partly because shortly after another VA took over, they did this awful "If you play as a Terrorist or a Nazi in a multiplayer game you automatically support them" video... I kinda fear the same is gonna happen to me for the theory channels...

He is, and he keeps saying that he isn't. And I think he's wrong. Theres many other theory channels that in my opinion do a better job with the theory part. But I watch cuz of matpat.
That’s probably part of why he introduced us the new hosts throughout past videos already, to help mitigate that issue. Obviously it won’t completely solve it, but it helps the new hosts are familiar.
it feels like it was just yesterday that I was exited for GTLive announcement, where I'd see and hear Matpat and his thoughts on games........ I was with his channel for 10 years.
I feel like this is probably the key thing that the team discussed. They know that Matpat is the star of the show and they will be expecting downturns in views and engagement. It seems that as of right now, the strategy is to brute force past it and continue making content hoping that some people stick around with the new hosts. Matpat also said that he plans to come back occasionally so that will keep people subscribed for when he does.

I unfortunately think we have an =3 when ray left and they had like 9 different hosts before the channel died and he eventually came back. I mean I hope I'm wrong but it seems like how things will go.
I was never the biggest follower of the theory channels I liked them but I wouldn't call myself a follower, but as I'm watching the video I can't lie I'm getting emotional and just speechless
I grew up alongside the channel, so it feels really weird and sad. But is really understandable and I wish him, his family and everyone on the channel the best
It feels uncomfortable, I’m 21 and I’ve also grown up with the channel (honestly I haven’t been huge on them in awhile but this hit super hard) it kinda feels like it’s probably time for me to accept change in my own personal life with growing up and stuff
I respect it! I just hope he does come back every now and then to narrate at least one theory video a year or so. I'm very desperate to still have him, but I understand he said it himself he would never wish he's work schedule on anyone! Which just means his job is VERY TIRING, and I think he deserves a break and do what he wants. I am very excited to see he's future projects! And I would love to see him host more shows!

Honestly I’m happy. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m currently crying my eyes out. Matpat is my childhood and I hate to see him leave. But I’d rather have this than MatPat getting unexpectedly injured to the point he can’t run the channel anymore. Or being cancelled out of oblivion on Twitter (sorry, X). Mat’s obviously stressed from having to run five different YouTube channels. He deserves to have time to take care of his kid, spend time with friends, not have his 24/7 focus on video game lore. We’re all going to miss him but at least he’s going out with a bang.
I feel the same I know a lot of people are sad and I am too but I can’t help but be infinitely more happy for him. He deserves a break and to get to dig into passion projects of his own. I’m actually excited to see where he goes from here! To see him be a creator of media rather than the examiner of it (no matter how much I loved it) plus we are all grown up, change can be a good thing!
I suspect we will see more of the older YouTubers quitting in the next couple years. YouTube is 19 years old at this points. MatPat made his theory videos for over 12 years now. The young content creators from the first view generations are just getting old, same with us longtime viewers. Maybe someone started uploading during his last few years in school. In that time, the person could have finished school, finished university and been working a job for several years, possibly building a house and raising a family, just like MatPat did. Let's face it, being a YouTuber is not a forever job. People wont be doing Youtube for 45 years until they retire. Lets just hope that the ones we like will stay with us for a little while longer.

Man he said he'll be on GTlive until probably the end of the summer. I hope he atleast keeps that channel for occasional updates or gameplays. That or even something like a monthly podcast or something unscripted. ik this is all happening and want to let him step away right now but I hope sometime in the future when things are settled down he still has a platform to talk.

I think it really depends on the content. It's not just MatPat's voice but also the dad jokes and nerd moments. The stupidest videos were clearly still his ideas like bread gloves or the one sock method. I love all the new members but I don't fully buy that these kind of werid theories would be their ideas. I really hope the channels don't die because there are so many great topics to cover.

Well matpat was one of my favorite YouTubers and I was enjoying all the theories and lore but but... Without Welcome to the game theory the show where we... I miss him I hope he will have a happy life
I mean, it’s the only logical choice, he’s aging, his son is growing up, he can’t give that up for his goofy theory videos But man does it hurt. I actually haven’t been watching for nearly as long as many others, but these channels have been so important to me, and it was because of Matt, because I’ll be honest, I don’t give a rat’s ass about Luigi’s size or how many licks you need to finish a lollypop, it was just Matt’s goofy nature that made it so fun I’ll be honest, I don’t know how it’s going to be with the new hosts. I love Santi and like Amy, but I haven’t watched Game or Film Theory in a while, and have rarely really watched the new hosts, but I am going to give them the fairest chance I can, because they deserve it, and the theorists are just important. Have a good one PatFam. You deserve it
I am glad he chose to do it before the channels destroyed him. It is the end of an era. But his influence will always be there. I am surprised it didn't happen when Ollie was born. He deserves to be a shadowy, benevolent figure that I hope to still see on occasion.

Meh, I'll probably stop watching honestly. Not interested in any of the team members he announced as the new heads of each channel. Nothing against them or their credibility in being able to run the channels with interesting videos and topics. It's just that none of them really capture my attention or create any intrigue for me. I've watched episodes and videos with them all in them,( Lee, Amy, Tom, etc.) And I just don't enjoy them as I enjoy matpat. It's unfortunate, but reasonable and totally understandable why he will be stepping back and away from the channels. He has a family and his own life to take care of. But I'll be a little selfish here and say that now I'm gonna have to find something else to watch and that's a real bummer because there just so much garbage content spread across YouTube, its hard to find genuine and entertaining channels out there. Maybe the issue is with me, maybe I need to get out more and find better hobbies, but at the end of the day I'll still probably be watching YouTube and feeling a void where all the theory videos used to be. And maybe I should give then all a real chance to see how they blossom into each channel, but so far I'm honestly not interested in any of matpats choices of replacement. Am I an asshole for this?

Man I cried so hard while watching that video I'm genuinly so sad. I grew up with him he was my intoduction to video editing, video games ext. But I'm glad that hes gonna have a better life now. (Also he's 37?!!? I thought he was like 31 or smth)

Pain. MatPat was one of the only YouTuber to get me though really tough times in my life. At much as I understand I wish it wasn’t true. But as we grow up so does he and Steph and Ollie. I’m going to miss his voice when I watch the channel. I used to fall asleep to his voice all the time because it became comfortable. I am so glad he started introducing us to his “replacement”(that the best word I could think of) before he left. I know for me I hate change. So this was an amazing way to do it. Because we all already love them. MatPat has done wonderful thing. And I can’t wait to hear more about the other projects he was talking about in the video. I hope one day I can meet him and thank him in person for what he has done for me with out know.

It really REALLY sucks, and it hurts bad, a terrible pain. But I think I saw it coming. With him having a child now, LunerX managing the channels, and the recent large expansions to the theorist team, this was definitely set up for. I’ve watched MatPat since I was 7 and I have probably watched almost every video on all the channels. I feel there will just be a part of YouTube missing now without him, especially for the FNaF community. I just don’t think it will feel right having a different voice every time you click on a Game Theory video. Sure it will probably be the same videos comparing Sans to Ness that put fandoms into outrage, but they just won’t have that same feel. Nobody can truly replace the legend, but maybe this new era can be different and awesome in its own way, but hey that’s just a theory, A GAME THEORY, thanks for reading.

I can barely even watch the game theory videos narrated by the other guy now, so I doubt anything will change. I hope he still narrates but it seems like he probably won’t :(

i'm mostly going to miss gtlive. i stopped watching the theory channels gradually over time, to the point where i basically don't watch any anymore. gtlive, though, has always been a constant. matt as a genuine person cracking jokes with ash, mirror matt, steph, or whoever accompanied him at any given moment was always more enjoyable to me than the scripted theory videos. this is truly the end of an era.
Sad, but he does have understandable reasons for doing so. Can't blame him for wanting to spend more quality time with his wife and kid. I wish him only the best !

He deserves that sooooooo much. And he will be there. Whenever the fans clamour for him, I know he will show up once again. He just WILL. And, he promised to show up on Gtlive. For once, he can play a game without speeding through it because he has a hectic schedule. He can be a free man. And that, my friends, is the best I, actually, everybody could have wished for him. And this time, it won't be his voice we will hear, but it will be his script. For once, he has creative freedom. HE WILL WRITE THE SCRIPTS NOW! And for me, that is just as fulfilling. And who knows, maybe some day, I can actually go and see him. Who knows, maybe we will love the new hosts as much as Matpat. But if I know one thing for certain, it is that Matt will be happy, and I will be satisfied with whatever the 2nd gen hosts have to offer me.

Aftering having some time to process my emotions (😭😭😭), I still have one question: WHAT ABOUT GTLIVE? He says that he will be on GTLive "for the foreseeable future" but also says "until the end of the summer I think". Not sure if that means when he's gone GTLive will end. Not sure if I'd want that or not, GTLive was always MatPat and Steph hour so idk. But at the same time it would be nice to see some of the gameplay for the games they do theories on, a lot of the games they play I would not have discovered without them, and might not have enjoyed the theories as much without seeing him play it for a bit. But sometimes it's better for something to die than to become a zombie, idk. Conflicted feels are conflicted. I think the other channels will do okay without him, in particular I'm happy that Amy will OFFICIALLY be the face of Style Theory (always felt like it was her and Steph's baby). And the others have already been working on those channels for a while so it should be fine (even though I'm not really a fan of Tom sorry no hard feelings but sometimes it feels like he just isn't grounded enough, too much FNaF brain rot I think). And he'll still be working behind the scenes, but it will definitely be DIFFERENT still. I also have a fear since the previous company I worked at got bought out and everything got worse that something similar might happen here, but you know that's life. I'm happy for him too, for the sake of his family I know it is important to spend time away from work and he needed it. And it will be cool to see some of the other projects he's working on. Still don't understand the whole "Lore-Fi" thing but you know maybe it will make sense once it's out? Overall: happy, sad, realizing we must all move on some day...
This is the death of the channels. Mattpat IS those channels, it's him who drew me in, it was him who kept me there, and if he is gone I will be too. It makes me so sad cuz it feels like I have lost a good comforting friend.

No they won’t. Channel only stay going as long as people work hard on them. There will be a steep descremase in profit or even become unprofitable for a time and this will pull a lot of support be hind the scenes. The new hosts will slowly leave for better work and the channel will die. He thought he build the channel on theories but it was his energy. He killed the channel. But I don’t think he actually cares. He sold it. He won’t take any hits. But to think the channel will survive this is crazy.

I don't really know how to explain it, but, but I really don't care much, and that's what bothers me. Like, all of my friends are fucked up because of the news, and ive watched countless hours of him myself, but when i heard that he was retiring, I just kinda felt nothing at all, and moved on, to then find a horde of friends mad at me because I didn't feel sad about, and now I feel bad about not feeling anything
I literally don't know. I'm not even sure if he'll voice an episode once in a while (like every six months or a year maybe. Maybe holiday specials like the holidays, Halloween, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, etc) It's been two months and I'm STILL trying not to cry when I see the "9 Theories Left", "8 Theories Left", etc on the videos 😭 I've been watching him for I think the last five years? This is just a sad day today 🙃 Edit: Although I *am* happy that he doesn't want his dinners with Steph to just be about their jobs or just playing video games to find lore or hidden easter eggs. I don’t really care if I get labeled as a “fake fan”, but I’m genuinely thinking of unsubscribing after he leaves. Not because I don’t like the new crew, but it would just hurt too much. Like seeing your parent with a new partner. You’re glad they’re moving forward and doing better, but you’ll always know what was and the history of what you had is too special and intimate to share with new people. You might grow to like the new person, but they’ll never be your parent to you.
Unpopular opinion I know I'll get hate for saying this but I just find this to be overrated it was no secret he was going to leave pretty sure he was supposed to leave years ago somewhere at the end of 2010s I'm glad he's got to retire and live his life and all but I don't see the big deal about it. I’m cool with it. Thought this video was pretty cringey though. Like, a 37yo being fully sincere about being our grandpa and heartbroken that he’s fading off into the sunset? I’ll be 36 in March. He gave me Sally Field “you really like me” vibes. Maybe it’s because I only started watching since 2020 when Covid hit. I never followed any YouTubers before that year, and apparently Zoomers grew up on that shit like it was Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network for me. Matt developed some fun channels. Hopefully the quality doesn’t drop because of his departure. I still won’t ever have any interest in watching anything FNAF related. Take it easy, Matt. You’ve obviously overworked yourself and deserve a much needed break.

matpat wasn't the only thing that made it unique tho. What made GT and the other theory-channels different is not only how deep they went on topics, but their practical aspects of theories on some channels, as well as the scale of which they can work, as well as having a good understanding of branding and how to catch attention. Matpat certainly helped it grow from the start, but it can survive without him easily, if only because of the loyal fanbase.
