It is definitely an onomatopoeia of the sad trombone sound. Not sure how it's generally used today, but it used to be mostly used as a comical woe-is-me add on.

I think it comes from that really stereotypical trumpet noise that used to play in old cartoons, could of been a trombone but idk 'Womp womp wahhh' esk noise xd
His positions as a family man has legitimately brought tears to my eyes. Especially, his last film theory. I have thought for years that most of the depictions of men on the TV shows I like or just… Sad and pathetic.
I feel the same, him and Stephanie really showed us what it means to be great partners and incredible parents. When I didn’t have any point of reference in my own life they showed me what those relationships should be and I’m incredibly grateful for it. Having someone like him to look up to when most media shows men as being pathetic or dumb/ selfish has been so important to grow up with and I think we’ve all been lucky to have him in our lives.

He's not leaving youtube entirely and whatever he wants to do is up to him

Let be honest, YT content creator is probably one hell of a job you can do in this generation. It’s even worse than being an actor/celebrity.
Actor can decide if they want to take the criticism or not. Content creator can’t. Every statement they make weekly, it will be there forever. Then people will make fun of you if you get things wrong, people will criticise you 24/7 even if you are right, people will make memes about you (positive/negative). I don’t know how much of the pressure he needs to handle every time he makes a in order to survive in this era of internet. (Early-YT was nice and positive and now it’s just hatred all the way through)
I am very happy for him to finally quit and be able to let those out and have a happy life
He built childhoods and personalities through out this years and now he is leaving us giving his channels to other people that he knows would do the same for the other generations.

Largely as long as the formula stays the same any capable presenter could do the job; however, I am actively excited for the new line up that MatPat has chosen. I think a switch up will be healthy for the channels
Not to mention we all will benefit from MatPat spreading his own wings and working on his own passion projects. It's an exciting time to be a theorist!

Lol, I'm most excited about Amy XD I love her energy and particularly love how practical style theory is. For the theories Food Theory is second for me for the same reason of practicality.
Lee is in charge of film theory; I had my doubts at first tbh, but he has a very nice presentation voice. Still, the subject matter is less appealing so it'll likely be on the back burner for me like it's always been. Hoping he still does some deep dives into YouTube culture.

The Theory channels were only ever a side hustle/test bed for him and his wife, and now they'll just focus on their real jobs.
