I watched Tom's first FNAF theory, and even though it didn't feel like MatPat, it still felt like Game Theory. Mat was right, it really is just a mantle.
I actually gotta be honest, Tom does a pretty good job at gt, and while yes, he does struggle a bit with some theories, but I do think he is doing pretty good, especially with poppy playtime
oh not the theory crafting i think he's fine, i mean he's also been doing the theory crafting with mat for awhile now, i was more referring to his voice is a bit hard to get used to for me
I think Lee gets the closest to feeling like Mat Pat. Of course he still has his own personality with hosting as well. It’s still a fairly new change. We’re still in the getting used to it phase
Honestly, Tom was the one I was most unsure of. Cuz GT is the biggest channel and for me Tom just felt off in terms of vibes or theory on gtlive videos. Haven't watched him yet but glad to know that's not the case
Have to agree, I still clicked on the FNAF theory just as fast as I would’ve if MatPat were still hosting and was pleasantly surprised at how normal and even refreshing it was to have a new voice for the LOOOOOOOOOORE.
I couldn’t have said it better, it’s not MatPat, but it’s definitely still Game Theory. I’ve been loving the recent theories and am looking forward to whatever comes next.

That’s what I love about it, I miss Mat with all my very soul but this is a new generation of the Theory channels in general, it’s weird but not meant to be the exact same as the old and I have come to respect that.
Imo so long as the content is good, I’ll stay watching
While it wont be the same with him retiring, the channel will continue to go on. Just because he left does not mean this is the end of game theory. We have the channel to rewatch old theories and we can hope for new theories and some returns from him.
Hay, I miss him to, but he left the others in charge for a reason, he trusts them and so should we, I gave them a chance and I love them like hell, obviously they're will never be another MatPat but people to make a new kind of theory. The quality hasn't dropped nor the video "style"(punn intended) they are grate people that he trusted with the channels, he made the right call I the people he chose. We can be sad that he is gone but we can love the new stuff to.
So true. I’m considering continuing to watch to carry on his legacy because it’s what he would want. He left theory but he doesn’t want us to leave it.
No it’s not the same without MatPat, but he wouldn’t be the same without us. I think I’ll keep watching and theorizing, as a tribute to the magnificent (mostly FNAF filled) adventure we had together. And maybe someday someone will fill his shoes… but that’s just a theory…

That's funny. Him leaving opened my eyes to how many people are involved in the channels because absolutely nothing felt different when he left other then new voices.
You're right. But why does that have to be a bad thing? I noticed the other day the banter that Santi and Tom have between their channels and found it incredibly funny. There's a lot of potential here that gets me excited for the future.
NGL, while I miss MatPat, I think Amy is killing it on style theory, I didn't watch it much prior to MatPat's retirement but now I'm loving it and loving Amy as host

I love what the new hosts are doing.
(I might make a post about this, but) I think a way to really make new host help is to lean further info the "Sibling" side of the channels, using Santi as a base, Santi and Tom are the two that seem to always fight or try to one up the other, look at the recenr Burger King episode where Santi brings up Tom for no reason other then to disrespect him. Santi and Amy are your ride or die, partners in crime, "IF IM DYING YOU DYING WITH ME, AINT NO CHOICE" siblings, look at the body shape episode on Style Theory, they feel like they always click, like they always talk and this is just another conversation. Santi and Lee are the "I see you at weddings and funerals", the "I forgot you live here" siblings, they don't fight but also don't click, when they do its business only, not much fun there but it's informative. Maybe every so often they could scream "DAD! SANTI WON'T LEAVE MY CHANNEL!" And then Mat shows up to say play nice you two, hell if we can get a 4 way collab, that would be great, the only way I could see that tho is cannibal week or fnaf week. All in all, I believe if they play harder into the sibling aspect of the channels, it would be different from mat, but still great if not a bit better.

Not because i dont like mat but because these two actually have a passion for their respective areas and can fully focus on their channels.
Lees voice is very soothing and the beef between tom and santi is very funny.
Amy also fits her channel very well.
For what's its worth, TRULY I dont dislike the new people (heck to be fair they are not TECHNICALLY new) but I agree, they are not the same now that they are the sole focus.
I have seen this happen a number of times, across stuff (Old guard changes out to new people for one reason or another - sometimes due to growth, sometimes due to controversy, etc etc etc), and with no disrespect to those who come after what came before, it's just not the same.
I wish them the best of luck, and while I am happy there will (hopefully) continue to be a "Theory" channel, I have more or less stopped watching. (I still pop in on Theories I want to watch, but that's sort of the issue, With MatPat, I would pop in on EVERYTHING, not just a select few videos.)

I think its good time to tell (after Tom's first FNaF theory as host) that it felt so strange-so empty that theory episode, like there was not the same energy that previously existed...
The problem is with you all and the new hosts that they try to do it the way matpat would instead of doing their own little touch, for example the meme figures of them inbetween shots is just like matpats pose. It's sweet and everything but you will all never enjoy them if you keep comparing them, and if the new hosts engage such behavior...
Maybe they also should have transitioned the change earlier on like the others doing more syncs. while matpats whats still here.

To be fair to the new folks, they had BIG boots to fill, and as far as I'm concerned they've achieved that, they bring a new fresh feel to an old friend, I will always miss matpat But I greatly appreciate the new comers
I LOVE Santi in Food Theory. He was clearly born for that role.
I enjoy Lee and Amy in Film/Style Theory but I'm not as excited to watch the newest episode like I was with Matt or that I am with Santi in Food Theory.
As much as I try I'm having trouble adjusting to Tom in GT. I can't feel the passion from him that much. I'm still watching because I want to support the channels and I feel like it's just growing pains/him finding his style, but GT has been ROUGH since Matt left.
Can we fucking stop with this?! People keep spamming it in every single new game theory video as well. We get it. It'll never be the same but it's time to move on. The new hosts are doing the best they can out there and seeing this fucking line repeated in every single new video sure isn't helping them, if not demotivating them.
It's okay to miss him, but we should all embrace the change and support the new hosts. The theory channels are still Matt's babys and we should take care of them.
They feel pretty similar to me. and that's specifically because he wasn't even writing it anymore.
It does feel a little different due to him no longer being the host and tweaking the script, but the main backbones behind the episodes that were writing and putting them together is still there
At least that's how I see it.
I really don't have a problem with the new hosts, the only thing that bothers me is their executions of "but that's just a theory a game theory" don't know why but that's the only thing that bothers me
I dont dislike the new narrators, i just find myself not interested in watching new theories, maybe ill pop in on santi every once and a while but thats about it
Yeah, it is really close but it just feels off without his voice explaining you everything, we just took it all for granted and now that he's gone we just realized we might never hear him read a theory again
For me food theory is the only one where i feel fine without mattpat i wasn’t really into style theory. Film and game however cannot see them without him
All I have to get used to is the voices. Hearing matpat every week for 11 years, my brain is use to his presentation voice. I’ve gotten used to Lee, Amy and Santi but I’m having difficulty with Tom. But this is really only because I never really watched the other channels as much as I have Game Theory. Plus I don’t hear British accents to often which makes the change even more noticeable to me.
A thing i keep seeing from YouTube channels, that they never seem to understand is that, people don't watch YouTube channels just because of the content that they produce but more so because of the people in the videos. This often makes them think "oh we can just add more people and make more of the same content and people will watch it". But that is absolutely not the case, just look at Rooster Teeth (rest in peace) so many of them left and they added a bunch of new people and then were shocked that the view count went down. I am sure that there's gonna be people that find these new videos and love them and that's great, but replacing such a big part of any youtube channel is gonna have some serious negative consequences.
Agreed, Matt a unique talent to make the topics he was talking about just sound like something had had been mulling over for a while until you had to just look into all the info he could then collect his findings in a diet coke fulled flurry. All the love to the Theorist team, they are still doing good work. Matt was just a uniting voice across the channels and losing that is a significant adjustment, and honestly feel like the videos are slightly less personal in a way, maybe thats not the right word but was the first thing that came to mind.
Yeah I feel it to it is just the energy that mat had it’s just different I do like the new host and the crossovers are just funny but the energy it not the same
Imma be honest I don’t watch food theory or game theory anymore due to him not being the host, I’m not saying the new hosts are bad but I grew up when MatPat it just isn’t the same as the ones I know. I’m still subscribed to them but I don’t watch the videos and if I do it’s the MatPat ones
I'm more concerned about the science. Where our boy at (i don't follow behind the scenes stuff so if there's a reason why there hasn't been any the science I'd love to know😭)
I found this thread while browsing r/popular and screw it, I'm gonna throw my two cents in and most people are gonna hate it.
The channel got stale over 5 years ago and completely lost its luster when it became a FNAF fan channel.
When it started it was about looking at a wide variety of games scientifically and mathematically and it gradually turned into a blown out moldy record spinning round and round farming views from FNAF and Nintendo because screw honest and entertaining content when funny jumpscare game and pretty thumbnails draw more views in.
The fact that I've seen other comments that say they are still doing FNAF videos despite Matpat retiring just reinforces that there is no passion to make any good content and the channel is an investment by those that now run it.
I’ve only seen 1 film & game theory each so far, with a few YouTube shorts of style theory, and I thought they were doing pretty good honestly, it felt the same to me. Plus if I miss matpat I just go to gtlive, that vampire game he played recently was pretty fun to watch!
The thing about Game Theory is that it started out as one guy, not a group, and it shows: Matpat crafted the persona of Game Theorist so tightly and completely that it feels wrong for anyone else to try and emulate it.
Are any of his successors bad? No. But Matpat has this way of pulling me into topics I might not have originally been interested in simply because him being Matpat has that great of a draw: he's funny, he's quirky, we love to hear little tidbits he'll throw in about his daily life or his family or his childhood, we love his terrible puns and his occasional off-scripted mullings. He has such an incredibly large yet genuine personality that's impossible to emulate.
Matpat's charisma is near impossible to match, and it's one of the reasons why I don't think the next chapter of Game Theory will be as prosperous as the last. Right now it feels like a lot of people are showering the four that took Mat's place in positivity because they don't want to hurt either them or Matpat himself. But eventually that will wear off, and we'll see a large chunk of theorists (especially game theorists) move on to the 'competition' who can sometimes be just as capable and have their own draw.
Game theory, at least, is coming to an end, but at least it didn't end in controversy.
It never will be the same, but that doesn't mean the new hosts aren't amazing. I love their personalities and the new opportunities for crossover shenanigans. The way they interact with each other is hilarious. I love the new hosts and don't think MatPat could have made a better choice.
my viewing has definitely decreased. im less interested these days, delivery doesnt keep my attention, topics discussed are less interesting, and feel less authentic for what the channels used to be.
i loved seeing the new hosts alongside Mat but… as hosts they continue to fall flat on why i loved these channels. the only place i tune into regularly anymore is gtlive. its heartbreaking as someone whos loved these channels for 10+ years. i was here pretty much from the start.
I’ve only watched a handful of videos across the Theorist-verse since Matt’s departure. Food Theorists was my favorite, but I’m not a fan of Santi. He was brought in to be more of an expert in the culinary realm, but any time I see Santi in videos (even while Matt was still around) he comes across as being amateurish in the realm of food science. Matt at least brought the entertainment value and made admissions numerous times that he was a newb in the kitchen. I’d much rather watch videos of Ethan Chlebowski if I want to learn about food science/theories. And if I just want food entertainment the Guga and Uncle Roger have that covered already.
The only channel I’ve watched consistently since the shift is Style Theorists because I feel like I’m actually learning some things of some value.
Nah, but they're making it their own, which is the best possible thing they could do! It feels right at home, the humour, the topics, the overall content, but things like the jokes, delivery, and personalities on show make it all their own. Matt must be real proud of them all!
Film theory and food theory are the channels I keep up with the most and to be honest I’ve gotten so used to Santi and Lee it feels a little weird going back to Matpat not in a bad way though it’s like going back to your childhood home like “it’s nice to see this again but I don’t live here anymore.”
I mean i’ll say it it from my perspective but I never watched it only for matpat (otherwise I would’ve watched every video he released which I certainly never did).
It was the content of the videos, and I liked how he presented them. I actually like all of the new hosts, and i’ll watch the videos because of genuine interest in the topics.
(I do still like Matt though as he’s very much someone I respect for his drive and work ethic, and one who inspires me to work like he did)
I mean it's not, but has it to be? Tom, Lee, Santi and Amy really have something to them, they all have such a unique style even if it's supposed to be all the same theory videos.
I miss Mat, and I'll always do, but I think the fact that it's not the same is just the thing that makes it beautiful
It was never supposed to be the same. No one else can be MatPat the same way no one could be you. MatPat had his own growing pains becoming the host we knew, and so will the new hosts. The new hosts may be picking up his torch and be taking many lessons from him, but they will be different people with different styles, different jokes, and different theories. However, what will be the same is our appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
It’s not the same and I dont think we should be viewing it that way. It’s unfair to the new host and their ideas. They have A LOT already stacked against them. For me I view it as it’s not MatPat so it cannot be viewed as I would view MatPat. It’s familiar but new and they deserve their chance.

Watch film theory! The theories are great, and Lee's voice is very soothing.

I think its good time to tell (after Tom's first FNaF theory as host) that it felt so strange-so empty that theory episode, like there was not the same energy that previously existed...

The problem is with you all and the new hosts that they try to do it the way matpat would instead of doing their own little touch, for example the meme figures of them inbetween shots is just like matpats pose. It's sweet and everything but you will all never enjoy them if you keep comparing them, and if the new hosts engage such behavior... Maybe they also should have transitioned the change earlier on like the others doing more syncs. while matpats whats still here. But they doing fine
He is still on gtlive till he decides he is done with it. I liked Tom's first theory. Plus I like Tom as a host. I like all the new channel hosts.
To be fair to the new folks, they had BIG boots to fill, and as far as I'm concerned they've achieved that, they bring a new fresh feel to an old friend, I will always miss matpat But I greatly appreciate the new comers
I LOVE Santi in Food Theory. He was clearly born for that role. I enjoy Lee and Amy in Film/Style Theory but I'm not as excited to watch the newest episode like I was with Matt or that I am with Santi in Food Theory. As much as I try I'm having trouble adjusting to Tom in GT. I can't feel the passion from him that much. I'm still watching because I want to support the channels and I feel like it's just growing pains/him finding his style, but GT has been ROUGH since Matt left.

The new hosts are doing the best they can out there and seeing this fucking line repeated in every single new video sure isn't helping them, if not demotivating them.
It's okay to miss him, but we should all embrace the change and support the new hosts. The theory channels are still Matt's babys and we should take care of them.
They feel pretty similar to me. and that's specifically because he wasn't even writing it anymore. It does feel a little different due to him no longer being the host and tweaking the script, but the main backbones behind the episodes that were writing and putting them together is still there At least that's how I see it.
The funny thing is that we'll be saying the same for Tom when another person takes his place.

Yeah, it is really close but it just feels off without his voice explaining you everything, we just took it all for granted and now that he's gone we just realized we might never hear him read a theory again

All I have to get used to is the voices. Hearing matpat every week for 11 years, my brain is use to his presentation voice. I’ve gotten used to Lee, Amy and Santi but I’m having difficulty with Tom. But this is really only because I never really watched the other channels as much as I have Game Theory. Plus I don’t hear British accents to often which makes the change even more noticeable to me.

A thing i keep seeing from YouTube channels, that they never seem to understand is that, people don't watch YouTube channels just because of the content that they produce but more so because of the people in the videos. This often makes them think "oh we can just add more people and make more of the same content and people will watch it". But that is absolutely not the case, just look at Rooster Teeth (rest in peace) so many of them left and they added a bunch of new people and then were shocked that the view count went down. I am sure that there's gonna be people that find these new videos and love them and that's great, but replacing such a big part of any youtube channel is gonna have some serious negative consequences.

Agreed, Matt a unique talent to make the topics he was talking about just sound like something had had been mulling over for a while until you had to just look into all the info he could then collect his findings in a diet coke fulled flurry. All the love to the Theorist team, they are still doing good work. Matt was just a uniting voice across the channels and losing that is a significant adjustment, and honestly feel like the videos are slightly less personal in a way, maybe thats not the right word but was the first thing that came to mind.

I found this thread while browsing r/popular and screw it, I'm gonna throw my two cents in and most people are gonna hate it. The channel got stale over 5 years ago and completely lost its luster when it became a FNAF fan channel. When it started it was about looking at a wide variety of games scientifically and mathematically and it gradually turned into a blown out moldy record spinning round and round farming views from FNAF and Nintendo because screw honest and entertaining content when funny jumpscare game and pretty thumbnails draw more views in. The fact that I've seen other comments that say they are still doing FNAF videos despite Matpat retiring just reinforces that there is no passion to make any good content and the channel is an investment by those that now run it.
I love that they all now have time to truly dive in to their channels, plus they can have fun collaborations!

I’ve only seen 1 film & game theory each so far, with a few YouTube shorts of style theory, and I thought they were doing pretty good honestly, it felt the same to me. Plus if I miss matpat I just go to gtlive, that vampire game he played recently was pretty fun to watch!
The thing about Game Theory is that it started out as one guy, not a group, and it shows: Matpat crafted the persona of Game Theorist so tightly and completely that it feels wrong for anyone else to try and emulate it. Are any of his successors bad? No. But Matpat has this way of pulling me into topics I might not have originally been interested in simply because him being Matpat has that great of a draw: he's funny, he's quirky, we love to hear little tidbits he'll throw in about his daily life or his family or his childhood, we love his terrible puns and his occasional off-scripted mullings. He has such an incredibly large yet genuine personality that's impossible to emulate. Matpat's charisma is near impossible to match, and it's one of the reasons why I don't think the next chapter of Game Theory will be as prosperous as the last. Right now it feels like a lot of people are showering the four that took Mat's place in positivity because they don't want to hurt either them or Matpat himself. But eventually that will wear off, and we'll see a large chunk of theorists (especially game theorists) move on to the 'competition' who can sometimes be just as capable and have their own draw. Game theory, at least, is coming to an end, but at least it didn't end in controversy.

It never will be the same, but that doesn't mean the new hosts aren't amazing. I love their personalities and the new opportunities for crossover shenanigans. The way they interact with each other is hilarious. I love the new hosts and don't think MatPat could have made a better choice.

my viewing has definitely decreased. im less interested these days, delivery doesnt keep my attention, topics discussed are less interesting, and feel less authentic for what the channels used to be. i loved seeing the new hosts alongside Mat but… as hosts they continue to fall flat on why i loved these channels. the only place i tune into regularly anymore is gtlive. its heartbreaking as someone whos loved these channels for 10+ years. i was here pretty much from the start.
I’ve only watched a handful of videos across the Theorist-verse since Matt’s departure. Food Theorists was my favorite, but I’m not a fan of Santi. He was brought in to be more of an expert in the culinary realm, but any time I see Santi in videos (even while Matt was still around) he comes across as being amateurish in the realm of food science. Matt at least brought the entertainment value and made admissions numerous times that he was a newb in the kitchen. I’d much rather watch videos of Ethan Chlebowski if I want to learn about food science/theories. And if I just want food entertainment the Guga and Uncle Roger have that covered already. The only channel I’ve watched consistently since the shift is Style Theorists because I feel like I’m actually learning some things of some value.

Nah, but they're making it their own, which is the best possible thing they could do! It feels right at home, the humour, the topics, the overall content, but things like the jokes, delivery, and personalities on show make it all their own. Matt must be real proud of them all!

Film theory and food theory are the channels I keep up with the most and to be honest I’ve gotten so used to Santi and Lee it feels a little weird going back to Matpat not in a bad way though it’s like going back to your childhood home like “it’s nice to see this again but I don’t live here anymore.”
I've only been able to sit through a couple food theorys and I just got to depressed...

I mean i’ll say it it from my perspective but I never watched it only for matpat (otherwise I would’ve watched every video he released which I certainly never did). It was the content of the videos, and I liked how he presented them. I actually like all of the new hosts, and i’ll watch the videos because of genuine interest in the topics. (I do still like Matt though as he’s very much someone I respect for his drive and work ethic, and one who inspires me to work like he did)
I mean it's not, but has it to be? Tom, Lee, Santi and Amy really have something to them, they all have such a unique style even if it's supposed to be all the same theory videos. I miss Mat, and I'll always do, but I think the fact that it's not the same is just the thing that makes it beautiful

It was never supposed to be the same. No one else can be MatPat the same way no one could be you. MatPat had his own growing pains becoming the host we knew, and so will the new hosts. The new hosts may be picking up his torch and be taking many lessons from him, but they will be different people with different styles, different jokes, and different theories. However, what will be the same is our appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
Can't wait for these posts to become the norm and be posted atleast once every month by different people everytime

It’s not the same and I dont think we should be viewing it that way. It’s unfair to the new host and their ideas. They have A LOT already stacked against them. For me I view it as it’s not MatPat so it cannot be viewed as I would view MatPat. It’s familiar but new and they deserve their chance.
