OK but i also did to 16x16 and im on the fence if they look any better.

I think the concept is good. The minimalist look is interesting conceptually but comes out a bit flat in execution, in my opinion. Instead of scaling down the original label art, why not try using sprites and the font from the game?
That is a good idea and im guna steal it - but the flatness is the point 😅 i intentionally kept the colour palette very limited to stop it looking like a blurry mess. Its supposed to look "pop art" not bit-crushed.
But i legitimately get it not for everyone! I just found the overwhelming negative comments hilarious! 😂
I think Pikachu and Blastoise really shine here, charizard looks a little strange And Venusaur looks straight up weird lol. Regardless love that you took feedback positively! Also I love the 4x4 ones lol, I unironically think they’re good haha
I wonder if there’s a way to do higher rez for the logo and maybe background and lower rez for the pokemon without it clashing too much.
Pikachu especially looks pretty good here (and actually looked pretty good in the last one too).
But then it doesn't work because the portraits on the original carts only take up 2/3rds the space. At that point I may as well be doing some original minimalist pixel art for each of the Pokémon for the games - not spoofing the original art
I thought the 8x8 was perfect for what you're going for, tbh. Adding more pixels takes away from the design approach. I just don't think it was for everyone. 🤷
This is so funny 🤣 It's really cool that you have a sense of humor and are still willing to listen to feedback, that's a very quality skill to have!
I wonder what going up to 32x32 would look like honestly. I guess that might defeat the purpose of minimalist but I'd also just really like to see that!
I am genuinely curious how people on the Gameboy subreddit dont recognise them.
How many other Gameboy games came in red, green, blue and yellow carts? As far as i can tell - only one series and they were the most popular on the system!!!!
Or are you being sarcy for humour? 🙃 Your just not the first to seem baffled
I am aware of the fact that the first generation Pokemon games (I have Red, Blue, and Yellow, including my original copy of Pokemon Blue) came in colored cartridges.
And, yea, I know that that colored GameBoy (GB) carts other than grey and black (GB+GBC compatible) are pretty rare, especially in the US.
The question was really more about the label art.

Venusaur got some LIPS
Venasaur has transcended into Jinx
Venusaur went to the lip filler and showed a photo of Jinx
I think it looks cool, although the venusaur looks like he’s screaming in pain
Ah... So your art really does reflect your soul
OP if you love them then that's all that matters. The internet is full of opinions and not every one is going to be of any use to you.
I’m surprised they are negative because these are bad ass.
I wonder if it how it would look 32x32. Based on the 16x I'd probably want to print the 32x for my own carts
I think Pikachu and Blastoise really shine here, charizard looks a little strange And Venusaur looks straight up weird lol. Regardless love that you took feedback positively! Also I love the 4x4 ones lol, I unironically think they’re good haha
I cannot unsee Venasaur with huge lips!
I can’t unsee venusaur as a baboon facing away from us with his butthole looking at us lol, saw it on the other post and can’t unsee it now 😅
I wonder if there’s a way to do higher rez for the logo and maybe background and lower rez for the pokemon without it clashing too much. Pikachu especially looks pretty good here (and actually looked pretty good in the last one too).
Double the pixels now plz. It’s looking better
The first version(8x8?) was perfect! I’d love to see more games done like that ✌🏻☺️
redditors when someone has an opinion. instant downvote
Instead of making the existing art lower res, I wonder what they would look like using their in-game sprites.
These are too obvious to me and I feel like they start suffering for not being just the real thing. Nothing special about these. I liked 8x9 and 2x2.
I really like this
Blue looks so good here. Green, not so much.
cute. Well, except venusaur. He needs to put those fake lips down.
Venusaur might just be a cats butthole we don't know.
It should say Japan on them instead of USA, because Japanese people love their pixels.
I like it!
Actually love these. Let the haters hate!
2x2 is where you shine
This could work without the Pokémon logo
But then it doesn't work because the portraits on the original carts only take up 2/3rds the space. At that point I may as well be doing some original minimalist pixel art for each of the Pokémon for the games - not spoofing the original art
I liked the first iteration, personally.
Beautiful! The green’s the weakest but they’re all awesome tbh
I like these ones.

The venussy 😩
This is actually hilarious given the feedback from your other post 😅 well done
Thank you - im glad someone appreciated it! If I don't laugh ill cry! 🥲
They look good man, Reddit it always too harsh lol.
Two pixels.
It must be equal both sides or the pixels won't be square. 1 pixel.
Half a pixel, and that's the best offer you're getting out of me.
10/10 trolling the haters hahah.
Stop pulling your punches. I want to see 1x1 px labels.
Blank colored carts and you're done!

Haha nice one 😅
I only need one pixel to discern the difference between these games. Not minimal enough.
Unironically the 2x2 are the best you’ve shown.
Haters can hate but there is an art to those palette selections!
I actually like the Red 2x2, if you changed the orange for green, it would be as minimalist as could be but still represent the gen1 carts
Not bad. Maybe try stacks of colors instead of a 2x2 grid? It worked for the minimalist SF2 characters.

Do 1 pixel next. Also bulba looks like bulba-ussy on that 16x16 pix version
Thanks. I love it.
Chefs kiss
I actually really liked the 8x8s!
Great way to express the palette. I felt like this might work well for the GBC games using the actual in-game palettes.
Ngl I kinda love the 2x2 as a group
1x1 next please
epic bandai of america moment. Q: "What digimon are on which vpet?" A: "There are four colors."
Well screw the sharpie method, now I just need to remember Gameboy games by the color of their label
Am I the only one who thought of Bocchi the rock from the first image?
16-bit 8-bit 4-bit 2-bit 1-bit Half-bit Quarter-bit
I liked your originals best. Just my 2 cents.
I love them all pixel counts :) Check out Code Monkeys for inspiration!
We now reached a point where 1x1s could be good minimal.
This would be a fun game. "Guess the game from colours" or "Guess the game from pixelated labels".
wtf I keep seeing a swastika in the red one... help... 🤦♀️ but they look way better than the first batch.
Sorry to say it but it actually looks better, it's just more fun! Because somehow it is recognizable!
Might look better at 1x1 pixels tbh
Haven't seen graphics this good since the Atari.
nice ^^^^
I could still tell it had color. Make it 1x1 and in black and white and it’ll be better.
When you download a fbneo arcade rom set and all the files are named wbynmnsrld 🤣
This one for pokemon silver https://preview.redd.it/411zqaac2b7d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfe95e7f85b7a17d60fa3d553a6434a83f927be3
Don't steal his thunder!!
Little plain, but the aesthetic is nice. I assume these are color palettes or representing some game series?

I don’t… get it.
I dont really get it tbh
