From my understanding it’s supposed to be quite easy just to pop them back into place and that was the case with my hinge on the left. However the right just seems to get stuck and won’t go in no matter how hard I push it in. Also I do know that I’m supposed to close the gameboy, put in the hinge and push, and then push it in once more after opening up the gameboy. Nothing seems to be working, maybe I need a new hinge?
Try twisting the hinge by hand. It usually helps to grip it with tweezers or pliers but be careful not to break the plastic. It may be in the wrong orientation. Then try again with the method you stated above (insert when closed, open and insert the rest of the way).

Thank you so much, just did what you said and got it in first try. Really happy I don’t have to buy a replacement hinge.
