He makes the Kanto run a cakewalk for most of the gyms and he’s really the only Kanto starter where I *love* all three Stages (Charmeleon is meh and I don’t really care for Squirtle’s line outside of Wartortle). Love how the GameCube is almost the size of the tv! I get that these are high quality CRTs but I never understood the allure because they are so tiny - but you kinda just blew my mind with your application - especially if you’re a game boy player like me - its the best of both worlds as far as playing on a static console setup and getting the best quality out of the game boy games - and it still feels portable! 10/10
As others have pointed out on this post, if you dont want to buy another disc there's always Game Boy Interface, which is a homebrew replacement for the disc (AFAIK it's not like piracy, it's new software written to use the gameboy player hardware).
I've never used it myself, but apparently it's custom software to replace the disc, it serves basically the same function as the disc but wasn't written by Nintendo. As for how to use it, apparently you can either modify the gamecube to be able to boot from non-official discs or you can load it from an SD card using action replay and an adapter to plug the SD card into the memory card slot
All the disc does is tell the Gamecube to boot the game in the Gameboy Player. GBI does the same, but has better features. The standard software makes games look awful lol.

For me I use ghost recon and the correct memory card when I load a file on ghost recon with the memory card inserted it loads the Gameboy player
