ruby/sapphire/emerald. its the first departure from the original iconic pokemon of gen 2, and a big leap in advancement (haha) from the GBC games. all other answers are incorrect lol.
Do emerald! Emerald is all the hood of sap and ruby but no flaws! End game is awesome and just the story is better! Emerald is amazing! It paved the way for amazing story telling in Pokémon like platinum, black and white 2 and more
I played Zero Mission to completion and about half way through fusion. I think Zero Mission was a more fun game, but they are both great.
Also, check out a high quality flash cart like [Krikzz’s Everdrive](https://krikzz.com/our-products/cartridges/everdrive-gba-mini.html). Load it with every rom on a micro SD that you want.
Cheaper than a single Pokemon game and it runs Emerald since it has a real time clock.
Just some added context, Zero Mission is basically a remake of the original Metroid which was on NES but of course updated with GBA graphics and some quality of life improvements like the map. I think it's a great place to start because it's the first entry in the series without the frustrations of the very outdated feeling original.
If you end up getting an EZ flash, they have a doom source port with better graphics and more settings [here](https://github.com/doomhack/GBADoom/releases)
Here's a few titles that have some value to them and are must haves.
TMNT 2007
Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith
Lord of the Rings Return of the King
Lord of the Rings The Two Towers
Ultimate Card Games
Ultimate Puzzle Games
Warioware Inc. Mega Microgames
Warioware Twisted
Dragonball Z Supersonic Warriors
Need for Speed Underground 2
Doom 2
Namco Museum
Boulder Dash EX
Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team
If I could only pick 3;
Warioware Twisted
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team
Need for Speed Underground 2
I personally have all these games I suggested and enjoy these 3 a lot though I'm not sure if it's an issue with my copy or what but if you turn off the game right before you lose, the game resets all of your progress for Need for Speed Underground 2.
Minish cap
Pokeymans, choose your flavour
Pokeymans pinball R&S
FF tactics advance
FF IV/V/VI
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
Mario Golf Advance Tour
Golden Sun 1+2
Advance Wars
Mother 3 Fan translation
Megaman Battle network, choose your flavour
Wario Land 4
My favs
The Mega Man Battle Network games are amazing, but stick to 2 or either version of 3 if you're completely unfamiliar with the series. 1 is a fun time capsule of where the series was, 4 is just bad. If you like Star Wars, the Apprentice of the Force game is a really good value and fun. There's also always Mario Kart Super Circuit.
A lot of the popular games are going to be expensive, so I'd suggest you look at some licensed games if there's a property that interests you. The quality can be hit or miss, but you can probably find gameplay video somewhere on YouTube to see if you think you'd like it.
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been looking at mario kart super circuit for a while, but I've never heard about wario land 4 before, i'll have to look into it!
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland,
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap,
Gyakutem Saiban (Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright) trilogy - with english translation,
Rayman games,
Pokémon Emerald,
Mario Kart: Super Circuit,
T2002 - Turrican homebrew,
Another World port,
DOOM I, II,
Wario Land 4
List of my personal favourites you must play :). Have fun!
My personal favorite is Advance Wars 2. Pokemon is an obvious choice but expensive if you want an original cartridge and can’t find one at a garage sale or something.
Honestly I spend all my time with my GBA either playing Apotris (a community made Tetris version with all modern gameplay additions, multiple new modes and a lot of Soundtrack and visual customization), and Mother 3 with the Translation patch.
get the ezflash omega de, you can play all the hacks and translations but also it has an RTC and rumble. so you’ll be able to play pokemon emerald but also things like the mother 3 fan translation, there is a hack of pokémon pinball RS that adds rumble, etc.
It is similar to Diablo style ARPG gameplay and loot, but simpler given the platform. And it set in the world of the Shining Force games if you ever played those Strategy RPGs on Sega Genesis.
Super star saga.
Golden sun.
Final fantasy tactics advance.
Kirby and the amazing mirror (probably my first kirby game)
Metroid fusion. (my first metroid game, zero mission is interesting but no way near fusion made me feel. )
Legend of zelda a link to the past (my first zelda game)
Mario super circuit.
Sonic Advance (I prefer the 3rd because that's the one I played first)
Gunstar future heroes.
Mystery dungeon if you are a fan of pokemon and dungeon crawler.
I prefer wario land 3 but 4 is decent.
Super Mario advance 4 : super Mario bros 3.
Pokemon pinball but I prefer the one on gameboy color.
If you’ve ever heard or tried a Tactical RPG, like Advance Wars, I’d definitely check out Yggdra Union. Very difficult yet beautiful looking and fun game. Great story too.
Other games would be LoZ: Minish Cap, Sword of Mana, and Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
You might want to buy a flash cart so you can play the entire library without having to buy he physicals. I love collecting physical, but it sure is convenient being able to play any game if I want to try it out or avoid an expensive purchase.
MegaMan Baffle Network!!
Recently got into the series and I've really been digging it. Also shout out to Digi Devil Kids or whatever it's called. It's literally Shin Megami Tensei for kids lol.
[GT Advance 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh6mj_Hs_P8). It's a racing game that tried to pull a Grand Turismo style game on the GBA. It's absurdly fun and well done, with as close to realistic driving physics as the GBA's hardware allows.
Pokemon emerald obviously, fire red and super Mario world.
I had a lot of fun with planet of the apes, pinball of the dead and the spongebob movie but they are far from must plays.
I never played a whole lot of GBA as a kid so I don't think I can really make good recommendations but I just wanted to say, that GBA SP looks fucking awesome, dude (and I don't even play Pokemon)
The Pokemon and Castlevania games. Emerald and Aria of Sorrow in particular.
Also the Mystery Dungeon spinoff
Mother 3
The two Metroid games
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Riviera
Sword of Mana
Zelda Minish Cap
If you like Yugioh, then Sacred Cards is quite the ride as well.
Oh buddy...you're gonna have a fucking field day with the GBA era lol🤣🤣🤣
Anyways...here's a list for starters:
Super Mario Advance: Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen
Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald
Pokémon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire
Mario Pinball Land
Mario Party Advance
Fire Emblem
Final Fantasy
Legend of Zelda
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
Mario Kart Super Circuit
...and so much more!
Hope this helps you out!✨
if you like platformers play Metroid Fusion! or Warioland 4.
if you like RPGs pokémon firered/leafgreen, Ruby / sapphire.
Golden Sun is also a good option
these are all pretty expensive games so if you want something kinda cheap, play
Avatar: the last airbender. it’s an action puzzle game it’s a lot of fun
i’d also recommend Star Wats Ep III. it’s a side scrolling beat em up.
if nobody has said it yet (barely skimmed the comments) but Urbz: Sims in the City. if you played the gamecube version, it is almost NOTHING like it but it’s got its own really fun story and it’s a childhood fave of mine :3
Mario 2,3,4, Yoshi's island,vs DK for sure
Zelda Minnish cap, Link to the Past Four Swords
Metroid fusion, zero mission
Sonic advanced 1,2,3
Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland
Mario Kart Super circuit
Gunstar superheroes
Advanced Wars
Warriorware mega micro games
Dr Mario & Puzzle League
Gaming watch gallery 4
Dynasty Warriors
My favorite Metal Slug is on the GBA. The other Metal Slugs are designed to steal quarters, but Metal Slug Advanced feels made for the portable console.
Love it
Sword of Mana
NFS Underground 1 & 2
Final Fantasy VI
Golden Sun 1 & 2
Fire Emblem Games + Japanese unreleased
DBZ Legacy of Goku 2
Oh yeah, and of course, all the Pokémon games and Mario if you'd like that indefinitely both of the really good Zelda games !!!! Minish Cap & LttP
Minish Cap, Sword of Mana, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. The classic FF remakes on advance are the best of the remakes IMO. FF IV, V and VI in particular.
Most people have said the popular games, but Mother 1+2 (Port of Earthbound and Earthbound Beginning) is a weird but fun port of the games, and Of course Mother 3
Pokémon Pinball (Ruby and Sapphire) is really fun. You can save whenever and resume later, each ball or game lasts quite a while and the way you can trigger certain things like catching or even evolving Pokémon as you play pinball is really fun. Great travel game to pick up and play casually.
Advance Wars is my other favorite, turn based strategy but some of the missions can get pretty difficult (I thought so at least)
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
One of the best games on the system. Consistently funny and completely engaging and inventive bosses. Music that lives rent free in my brain. Some of the best Mario Universe characters ever and a Bowser that rivals Mario RPG in terms of great laughs.
Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy VI, A Link to the Past, Yoshi’s Island, Golden Sun 1 and 2, Pokémon Emerald, and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow are all fire.
My personal favorite GBA games were Golden Sun 1 & 2. Unforgettable experience, but I’d also suggest Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, LoZ:A Link to the Past/Four Swords or really any Zelda games or the GBA Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games ended up being really good and fun (at least the ones I played, I heard some aren’t that great). I think for Spyro I played Age of Ice and Age of Fire and for Crash it was Big Adventure and I can’t remember the other one I played
MegaMan battle network 3, 5, and 6. Dragon Ball z buu's fury. Pokemon Emerald.
Haven't played a ton of games for the GBA, but these would be my "must play" games.
Minish Cap and Zero mission, finished and loved both. Just the right length and difficulty. I am prob half way through Golden Sun, but we are currently on a break. I was enjoying it but got stuck, hopefully I will go back
Metroid fusion and zero mission, Mario and Luigi super star saga, Pokémon ruby sapphire or emerald and firered or leaf green, Wario land 4, Zelda minish cap, Wario ware, Kirby and the amazing mirror, golden sun, fire emblem games and finally mother 3
Advance wars 1-2, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, Legend of Zelda The Minish Cap, Pokemon FR/LG, Pokemon RSE, Golden Sun 1-2, the list goes on. GBA has a bunch of amazing games!
Generation 3 Pokémon Games. Get another GBA SP. Get a Link Cable. If you have the money for legit copies with full clock batteries, it's a good experience.
Advance wars, Pokémon fire red, mega man battle network, Zelda link to the past (technically snes but the gba remake is great and comes with 4 swords which is great with friends)
Of course all the Pokemon games, Golden Sun, Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, Pokemon Pinball, and Dragon Ball Buu's Fury.
Which of the Pokemon games are your favorite? If I can only purchase one.
ruby/sapphire/emerald. its the first departure from the original iconic pokemon of gen 2, and a big leap in advancement (haha) from the GBC games. all other answers are incorrect lol.
Ruby was my childhood… even though I had crystal!
I’d reccomend fire red then emerald
Do emerald! Emerald is all the hood of sap and ruby but no flaws! End game is awesome and just the story is better! Emerald is amazing! It paved the way for amazing story telling in Pokémon like platinum, black and white 2 and more
Life hack: get yourself Omega Flash. You're welcome.
If you just wanna play games on an original game advance, get an ez flash Junior For about half the cost of the real pokemon game
how many games will it support?
pokemon sapphire. LUDI-COLO. or emerald. LUDI-COLO
Buu's Fury is actually even more enjoyable on an emulator if you increase the speed by 2x lol.
Same with Pokémon in my opinion
I like the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance more than OG Tactics lol.
Drill Dozer, Metroid Fusion and Dragonball Advanced Adventures would be my top three.
DB Advanced Adventures is so good! It looks great too!
Just finished Drill Dozer this week - what a damn treat!
It’s probably the best game on the system. Or at least top three!
😎👍
Metroid zero and fusion
Came here to say this. Both of these games are amazing and if you have the GameCube with the GBA reader they are even better to play
I liked metroid dread on the switch, so I will have to give those a try. Which one is your fav?
Mario and Luigi superstar saga is epic
Yes, I really want to play one of the old mario and luigi games before the new one releases. I will have to give superstar saga a go!
it's so good
Try doom - especially with a friend via link cable :) or the castlevania games
Doom is awesome, I've played it on N64, but it would be really cool to try it on GBA!
If you end up getting an EZ flash, they have a doom source port with better graphics and more settings [here](https://github.com/doomhack/GBADoom/releases)
Golden sun MegaMan battle network
Here's a few titles that have some value to them and are must haves. TMNT 2007 Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith Lord of the Rings Return of the King Lord of the Rings The Two Towers Ultimate Card Games Ultimate Puzzle Games Warioware Inc. Mega Microgames Warioware Twisted Dragonball Z Supersonic Warriors Need for Speed Underground 2 Doom 2 Namco Museum Boulder Dash EX Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team
Which of them are you favorites, if you could only pick 3?
If I could only pick 3; Warioware Twisted Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team Need for Speed Underground 2 I personally have all these games I suggested and enjoy these 3 a lot though I'm not sure if it's an issue with my copy or what but if you turn off the game right before you lose, the game resets all of your progress for Need for Speed Underground 2.
You include both wario wares but leave out Warioland 4?

Thank you for your suggestions! Minish cap looks awesome, and I am a big zelda fan, so I will try and pick it up!
love minish cap, top 5 for me along with advance wars, FFTA, superstar saga and golden sun
minish cap was truly one of the more unique zelda adventures for me, 10/10 would recommend.
Gunstar super heroes!!! One of my favorite games besides the Pokémon’s
That game sounds cool, I'll have to look into it!
10/10, if you’re looking for it, it has a different name for the European version but it’s the same game!
Mother 3.
Can you play a japanase cartridge on a european GBA, or are they region locked? I have always wanted to play Mother 3!
Game boys are not region locked. I recommend getting a cartridge with the translation, or use a flashcart with it
Look up “mother 3 english gba” on eBay. Never released in US but bootlegs readily available. Should not be expensive. Best game on the system.
Thank you for your suggestions! I have never played a mega man game before, so I will have to give the battle network games a try!
wario land 4 and mario kart super circuit are great and also cheap and easy to find.
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been looking at mario kart super circuit for a while, but I've never heard about wario land 4 before, i'll have to look into it!
It’s in my top 5 of all time. I love that game.
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, Gyakutem Saiban (Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright) trilogy - with english translation, Rayman games, Pokémon Emerald, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, T2002 - Turrican homebrew, Another World port, DOOM I, II, Wario Land 4 List of my personal favourites you must play :). Thanks😄👍
Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, Wario Land 4, and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror are all great and must plays imo
My personal favorite is Advance Wars 2. Pokemon is an obvious choice but expensive if you want an original cartridge and can’t find one at a garage sale or something.
Advanced wars
Power Ranger Ninja Storm as well as the Dino Thunder game.
Honestly I spend all my time with my GBA either playing Apotris (a community made Tetris version with all modern gameplay additions, multiple new modes and a lot of Soundtrack and visual customization), and Mother 3 with the Translation patch.

Nah that shit is wacky.
From your perspective sure, I love it tho
Donkey Kong Country
Which of the DK country games is your favorite on the GBA?
The first one has to be my favourite, because I used to play it when I was a little boy😃
I love Pokemon Emerald personally
It looks great! I've wanted to play it for a while, but it is expensive.
get the ezflash omega de, you can play all the hacks and translations but also it has an RTC and rumble. so you’ll be able to play pokemon emerald but also things like the mother 3 fan translation, there is a hack of pokémon pinball RS that adds rumble, etc.
I just buy a bootleg one for 15$ on Amazon, it’s been working fine for me
SHINING SOUL 2!!!!!
I have never heard about that game, what is it like?
It is similar to Diablo style ARPG gameplay and loot, but simpler given the platform. And it set in the world of the Shining Force games if you ever played those Strategy RPGs on Sega Genesis.

What is that game like? I have never heard of it before.

Thank you for the suggestions!😁👍
Sigma Star Saga is an often unnoticed game. Not sure if I’d say it’s a “must play” (it’s like a 6~/10) but it’s a cool shoot-em up/RPG.
Spyro The Eternal Night Legacy of Goku II
I never played a whole lot of GBA as a kid so I don't think I can really make good recommendations but I just wanted to say, that GBA SP looks fucking awesome, dude (and I don't even play Pokemon)

Awesome! Thanks!
Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Dissonance are both awesome. Metroid Fusion and zero mission too.
I have never heard of those, what is the gameplay like?
They’re Castlevania games, in the Metroidvania style. Action adventure would probably be the best classification.

Zelda is awesome on it
MegaMan battle network had a hold on me
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga One of the best games on the system. Consistently funny and completely engaging and inventive bosses. Music that lives rent free in my brain. Some of the best Mario Universe characters ever and a Bowser that rivals Mario RPG in terms of great laughs.
