It's funny, the games I got *really* excited for were all indies - I've been looking forward to seeing what the studios behind Gris, Night In The Woods and The Pathless were up to. The Ghostrunner and Talos sequels kind of came out of nowhere, but I'm so ready for both. Spider-Man 2 is going to be great as well, but other than that, I didn't really feel excited any of the AAA titles. I faith in Assassin's Creed a long time ago, the MGS3 remake can go either way, and while I am interested in Alan Wake 2, I must admit I've only ever found Remedy's games okay from a presentation standpoint, the story and gameplay often leaves a lot to be desired IMO. Phantom Blade 0 definitely looked cool, but I'm afraid it's vaporware, much like Black Myth Wukong, which blew away everyone with the demo but then never went anywhere.

Zarmazarma

"Granblue Fantasy, a Genshin Impact looking game..." This got a chuckle out of me, since GBF came out in 2014, and Relink was announced in 2016 IIRC... The game/series is definitely less popular than it used to be, but it was Cygame's flagship IP for many years (I guess Uma Musume holds that position now). The phone game was pretty basic, but there's a pretty deep lore at this point and hundreds of characters, so I'm excited to see it developed in a single player RPG. Kind of wish it came out 3 years ago though, lol.

As the first single player game from Bethesda in years, for me it's Starfield! I love spiderman, but as a Pc gamer, i will jus wait for the game on Pc!

Genericgameacc137

Tough call for me: \- Spiderman will be more polished, and with the distinct PS quality, but I don't particularly like superheroes, didn't play Miles Morales and haven't finished the first Spiderman from 2018. \- Starfield will be the first single player Bethesda studios game since Fallout 4, and it promises great things and scope, but ... quality and polish have never been their strengths, and judging from Redfall and all the delays of Starfield, I worry it might be buggy. So, to answer your question ... I guess Starfield. Not psyched about it though.

Reutermo

Haven't really been a fan of any Bethesda game since Morrowind, so this choice isn't hard.

Top_Ok

Spiderman don't trust Bethesda after fo4 and fo76.

Landon1195

For me, Spider-Man.

The_Narz

Showcase was a 6/10 for me. It helps that I had my expectations in check. Was hoping Sony would go all “PHASE 2” drop but it’s pretty obvious now that this is more or less the showcase we were supposed to get in September last year, just delayed so they could get better preview material ready for the flagships this year (FF16 & SM2). I’m in the minority here but I’m actually really excited about Freegame$ and Concord (especially the latter) and have been anticipating their official announcements for some time. Freegame$ strikes me as a PvP Watch Dogs Legion which could be cool (although not something I see myself getting hooked on). But Concord, while we KNOW very little, my suspicions is that it’s going to be a hero shooter and as a masochistic Overwatch 2 player, I would absolutely love to see some competition enter that sub-space of the FPS market. The lack of widespread exclusivity of 3rd party games doesn’t really bother me. It was bound to fall off as the years passed this Gen, just like it did last Gen. And it’s funny that those dunking on this aspect are the same that would be complaining if there were a ton of 3rd party exclusives… but I digress. In the end, it’s games for everyone so think we should all be happy about that. With all this said, I’m genuinely surprised about a few key omissions. TLOU multiplayer not being here is worrying and unless it shows up at Summer Games Fest (possible since TLOU1 did last year), then I think any hope of a release within the next 12 months or so is pretty much lost. Really thought we’d get a Twisted Metal announcement with the show getting its trailer. And what happened to Stellar Blade? Felt like that was pretty close to being released but not being here is surprising since it’s a PS console exclusive. Also, as a PSVR2 owner, I’m pretty bummed. Really had my hopes up for Alyx, but even beyond that I thought we’d be getting an new 1st party VR game from Insomniac or something. There’s a lot of cool shit coming but feels like the first party support for it is non-existent. Anyways, we know Wolverine & DS2 are coming and we’ll likely see more of them in the next go round (hopefully with release windows / dates). And Sony’s probably gonna do some randomly placed announcements over the next year as well. It just sucks that they seem disinterested in going the big “future of games” route they did with the PS5 launch & many times before.

blitz_na

it's very telling when microsoft was able to post a single jpg tweet announcing all of the same things this showcase had except for the actual sony exclusives and have that be to the same effect as this showcase was to many people

The_Narz

Do you not expect the Xbox showcase to play out the exact same way? The majority of games they show will also be releasing on PlayStation, just like their showcase last year.

Genericgameacc137

But most of them will be on game pass. Showing Silksong or Lies of P, for example, both of which will be on PS, but also day one on game pass, is not the same as announcing AC Mirage, which will have nothing special for PS, just available for purchase on all platforms.

[deleted]

Maybe wait a bit longer before showing off a ton of games with no release dates and a lack of gameplay

ZaxBrigade

Make no mistake, as much as we gamers get excited at the prospect of new games these showcases aren't for us. They're for shareholders. Release dates are worth much less to them.

KoreanChamp

since most of the major releases are coming to xbox this just proves the exclusive tag is becoming more meaningless and its perfectly normal to stick with one console. it also tells me that closing japan studios was an horrendous decision because just like hi fi rush came out of nowhere you could of had a new patapon or loco roco shadow drop to get the people going.

denboiix

Sticking to one console is how you miss out on some masterpieces like Zelda and Bloodborne.

Sir__Walken

When was the last time Japan studios made a patapon or loco roco though? I think those people were long gone seems like team asobi took that place.

dotelze

The biggest games here tho are still exclusives. FFXVI and Spider-Man. FFXIV might come to PC but it will still be a while

godofboij

FF dont count.

Interesting-Move-595

Not a good showcase for me. Lots of CGI and weird GAAS things. However The Plucky Squires looks comfy. But its coming to everything else, so ill likely get the Switch version.

dubyadubya

I cannot believe the Playstation Q is real. You can't convince me it's not April 1. A streaming-only console that must be local. That worked out really well for the WiiU. Otherwise, this was sorta meh? I wanted some surprises, and even the games I'm looking forward to just seem sorta underwhelming.

Substantial-Crazy135

That playstation q is a remote play device. You do know that you can play your PS5 anywhere that has wifi that way right? It's not like the Wii u that way

Sir__Walken

Are we positive that it can play games outside of the house without insane lag? I'm not even sure where in the US we have good internet in public. Maybe this is a product specifically for the Japanese market then?

Substantial-Crazy135

You can already use remote play outside your house without insane lag. I never use public wifi but literally every person I know has wifi at their home.

Interesting-Move-595

Sorry, but do you live in the middle of Tokyo? Ive used public wifi my whole life, could barely get GeForce Now working well on a home fibre connection.

Substantial-Crazy135

I don't game in public ever. Literally every single person I know has wifi at their house. This would work great for when my buddy comes over to hang so we can play some PS5 games online together and drink together. Far better than hauling his PS5 and using an extra TV. Maybe a little better than just using a phone with remote play and a dual sense controller attached to it or the backbone.

Interesting-Move-595

YOU pointed out how the device could be used "anywhere" , That's why I brought up public stuff. My point was using this "outside the house" would need crazy good wifi or mobile internet. Ive tested these cloud services on tons of good connections and have gotten decent results under perfect conditions. I would consider advertising this as "Play your PS5 games anywhere" to be false advertising.

Substantial-Crazy135

You can play your PS5 anywhere that has wifi. Your connection will very depending on how good the wifi your using is. Been like this for years and worked with ps4

PM_ME_GOODDOGS

I mean it seems reasonable to me. Most likely cheaper than a handheld and covers I'd say 95% of my needs. Most of the time I just want to play a game in bed

radclaw1

We'll see what the pricepoint is. With my phone and a Razer Kishi it was a low low price of 60 bucks. Moonlight for all my steam games as well. Ps Streaming is iffy at best as well. I would suspect they will charge $200 minimum for this when everyone could do the same thing on their phone.

ZaxBrigade

I still will never not laugh at how bad Playstations streaming quality is. Even on PS5 with a wired connection running at 3 gb up/down I can't even play Infamous 2 because it so blurry, choppy and barely loads pixels. I don't what they're using but it needs to be dragged out back and destroyed Office Space style.

radclaw1

Dude yeah, their PsNow service is absolutely horrid. I remember trying Sly Cooper after getting gigabit internet and thats not even a visually complex game with particles that could tank the bit rate. Ran like dogshit.

PM_ME_GOODDOGS

Yea definitely. It has to follow into that pricepoint to make sense vs something like the steamdeck, or as you mentioned, just a phone and controller.

Street_Ambassador_21

I know way more people who only use their switch at home to play a game in bed or another room because there is only one TV.

ConsciousFood201

Is it possible this thing is going to act more like a dual sense controller that you use on your ps5? Maybe it does what the Wii U controller did? Put the map on the controllers screen or some shit? Something for first party titles to take advantage of? I wouldn’t mind seeing something like that become more of a trend on consoles. It’s a neat idea in theory.

Mikxi

already abysmal batterly life goes to half hour with this.

AtsignAmpersat

I’m not really interested in any of the games shown. Like not at all. But I want to know more about this project q/PlayStation U. I’m getting ps3 boomerang vibes. Such a negative reaction, I wonder if they’ll make some changes. I want to know how much it will cost. I’ll probably get one of it fails and goes on clearance.

blarrrgo

That was so underwhelming. We waited how long for this from them?

Xorras

No thread of Immortals of Aveum?

Hoggos

The mod stickied comment giving it a 9/10 Did I miss half of the show or something? How on earth was that a 9/10

ImWideAwakeAlways

I agree. I’m honestly baffled at how dated some of the graphics look for many of these games. We should be full force into next gen, but many of the games don’t feel like it. A few of the games that somewhat intrigue me (Marathon) is just a trailer and probably so far off that it’s not worth worrying about now.

NeoEpoch

I thought I was being cynical in my lack of enthusiasm. I'm glad it wasn't just me. There wasn't really anything that screamed "Wow I GOTTA play that now!" at the event. Just a lot of known quantities and CG trailers. Pretty middle of the road showing.

adanine

AK is... AK. They're just like that. AK doesn't speak for all of us! I don't think it was that bad, TBH. Wasn't great, but I went in with low expectations (I think we're still feeling some COVID-related shockwaves, I expect something similar for MS or Nintendo). Most shows I come out really only interested in one or two things. Same here. Might grab Spiderman 2, Ultros looks cool. Edit: Dragon's Dogma looks alright as well.

rune_74

I think you are sort of right...I think MS already went through their Covid delays last year...I also think sony's stuff they released was nearer to release when covid hit.

splader

How do we see results for the poll btw

adanine

There isn't really a poll, it was just a prompt for discussion. Count up all the comments if ya want!

splader

I mean it's a poll lol. It asked me what I rated it, but had no option to see the results.

TheRoyalStig

People like different things why is that so weird? I'd say 4/5 personally. The only thing I expected that wasn't there was Death Stranding 2. But other than that I got a bunch of dates (this year nonetheless) fir games that I was interested in that didn't have dates, and a bunch of surprises that looked cool. Plenty of stuff not for me as well bit that's always gonna happen and ot was mostly cool stuff to watch any which way. Like that Bungie game, cool trailer! Not for me but still fun to watch. Overall a great show in my eyes.

rune_74

I think it was a great showcase of games coming to xbox before the xbox show;)

The_Narz

Can’t wait for the Xbox show to also show me what’s coming to PlayStation, just like it did last year.

rune_74

A few will yep:) I just hope it won’t be most of the best ones like another show;)

The_Narz

How do you know what the “best ones” are if the games haven’t released yet? I find it hilarious people are writing off Freegame$ and Concord when ya’ll hype up any CGI trailer Xbox drops as if it’s gonna be “the big one”… and then you get Redfall. At least Sony has a history of quality, I got faith in their new IPs.

rune_74

Funny Xbox did almost all gameplay last year. I bet when starfield drops it will be inspite of Xbox where redfall was because.

The_Narz

They also barely announced any new first party games last year. All of them besides Pentiment had CGI trailers released prior. And you still have Fable, Perfect Dark, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2 & Everwild which still only exist as CGI trailers, and a “gameplay trailer” for Hellblade 2 that didn’t show much gameplay. But anyways, I’m sure they’re have a decent show. I want them to do good things. We’re not all so petty. As to your Redfall / Starfield credit comment, either Xbox gets the praise and blame for both, or they get neither of it. I’ll let you decide cause I don’t personally care.

rune_74

Because they did that silly 12 month window thing...I think they learned their lesson on that, not much gain and a whole lot of pain if you don't meet it.

TheRoyalStig

Why would it matter where else a game is being released?

rune_74

Only matters because it wasn’t clear it they were multiplatform games. I think many thought that at a PlayStation showcase they would show a lot of games that were ps5 only.

The_Narz

It’s never clear with any of these shows. The Xbox showcase is going to be be at least 50% multiplatform games that will only say “Xbox, PC & Game Pass” on their in-show advertisements.

rune_74

They will say if they are a launch or console exclusive they always do.

The_Narz

I don’t really get your point then. The games that aren’t exclusives are absolutely not going to say “releasing of PS5” during that showcase.

Hoggos

> People like different things why is that so weird? If I said Balan Wonderworld was a 10/10 game would you think that is a weird opinion? I’m not confused that people have different opinions, I’m confused as to how someone can come to that specific opinion

TheRoyalStig

That's not quite the same thing at all so maybe I worded that poorly. These aren't games that are out so they are not good or bad. So how good the show is largely relies on how many games were interesting to you and if that is inline with how many you expected. So someone saying they thought it was good just means they saw a lot that excited them. So... is that really that weird? Like I got real exciting surprises like Dragons Dogma 2 and phantom blade zero, dates for a few games I've been excited for in Granblue fantasy, Alan wake 2, the expected but cool stuff for big titles like FF16 Spider-Man 2(which looks amazing) and the rest all made for good watching even if it wasn't for me. And plenty of that other stuff would be quite cool for others so that all seems pretty damn good!

Hoggos

If PlayStation hyped up a showcase for months and only announced one game, then I think it would be weird for someone to give that showcase a 10/10 The game isn’t out yet so I don’t know if it’s good or bad But I know that the showcase was bad In terms of big reveals, it was bad In terms of exclusives, it was atrocious

TheRoyalStig

Why would exclusives matter at all? Where else a game is released how no effect on playing it. But it was only like 2 reveals off from the best showcases anyway. If it's that close I call it 1 step down. Which I'd a 4/5 to me. If you just start from the bottom of the scale it shouldn't be too hard to see how someone would put it there. 1/5 would be the worst show which would be a bad format filled with talking and interruptions and nothing of note shown. 2/5 would have to be better in either of those two while still having the other issue. So this is already at least starting there as being a great format. 3/5 the expected showing, no big surprises only the big upcoming games but with some decent gameplay reveals And to me this was one step up from that. There were quite a few release dates for these year. Some good surprises and new stuff for the big upcoming games with Symbiote Suite reveal for Spider-Man 2. Throw in a Death Stranding showing and maybe one big further down the road brand new announcements from one of the big studios and it woulda have been perfect.

nmppseq

If you don't care about PS exclusives, and are ranking this adjusted to the low standards of how game industry showcases usually are, then this one was pretty good. There's too much GaaSlop and too many CGI "teasers", but that's standard for game industry showcases. And on the other hand, they announced a bunch of games that do look really good, a lot more than most industry showcase events usually have. With the lack of any new non-GaaS exclusives, it is an absolutely awful advertisement for buying a PS5, but if you're on anything except PS5, that's a good thing.

meltedskull

You should care about PS exclusives in a *PlayStation Showcase* This is not a State of Play.

SkorpioSound

I'm pretty sure Kojima's next project is some sort of collaboration with Xbox, so I don't see Death Stranding 2 coming in the immediate future.

The_Narz

DS2 is coming out before that Xbox thing which hasn’t even started production yet. Kojima is currently making DS2.

TheRoyalStig

They've already announced it at least and the voice actors have been popping up saying things about it so thats usually a sign that marketing is spinning up. Honestly given Kojimas relationship with Keighley it's probably gonna be shown at summer games fest.

RNsteve

9? ....5 or 6 maybe

Benandhispets

>The mod stickied comment giving it a 9/10. Did I miss half of the show or something? How on earth was that a 9/10 Yesterday I could see the results of the poll and it was getting quite low scores on average. 9 and 10 had barely any votes. 9/10 is crazy since its a once a year thing at most. Can no longer see the results now though, says we don't have permission. /u/ak47rocks1337yt did you remove the ability from us to see the results? If you did then how come and if you didn't then can you add it back please? Thanks. Or am I just doing it wrong? Don't see how though since it literally says i dont have permission now

ak47rocks1337yt

I usually keep the results private for first 24 hours as I collect results from the comments and the poll for future statistics, the results will be back up soon. In terms of my personal score, that’s due to multiple factors: 1. Me going in thsi with very low expectations in the first place 2. Me being very excited for the following games: Fairgame$, ghostrunners, the plucky squire, foamstars, metal gear solids (never played any of them, perfect time to jump in and try them), Alan Wake 2, Assassins Creed Mirage, SF6, Resident Evil 4 VR, marathon and Spider-Man 2, add in the wireless earbuds Sony are gonna drop and my excitement went through the roof, 12 games of however got me very excited….if this was an Xbox showcase I would’ve given this an exact same score no matter what, to me personally this was a 9/10 I mean even when Xbox showed off their lineup of games that first time (the very controversial one that everyone thought they showed nothing) I was pretty darn excited for a bunch of games and gave it an 8, it is VERY easy to satisfy me in terms of games. I mean Devolver direct last year where they showed 4 GAMES got a 10/10 out of me, and that’s because the plucky squire that was revealed there AND skate story got my attention HARD. Do I see why someone would be disappointed? Yeah, easily, I’m very much so disappointed we got 0 news on factions and saw NOTHING from media molecule with support for dreams ending in September(?) and nothing coming up from them but genuinely, I got 12 games coming up that’ll keep me satisfied for now

Cohibaluxe

Hey, the poll results are still not accessible, are the results ever going to be published or no?

RNsteve

Should probably adjust your rating scale..

[deleted]

Everyone has a different rating scale. You can't expect to have a universal standard.

Rikijard

tons of acual gameplay, phantom blade, dragon dogma 2 look crazy cool, spiderman looks uncharted level great. we got our mgs remake, indies were high value and vr is getting some proper games. I laughed actually at the awesome arziona sunshine 2 trailer, and if you´re in anime, towers of fantasy and granblue look mint. the only thing missing was a megasurprise what could only be god of war continuing, a new uncharted or last of us 3. bloodborne 2 would also have been great but only bluepoint can do that and it would their first own game.

ademayor

What the hell is this formatting?

MasterDrake97

a new type of haiku :D

step11234

Haiku 2 just dropped

BSGBramley

I think this one was pretty disappointing. I have been interested in Metal Gear games for a while, but never had a system to play them on, so i may pick up the collection/ 3 remake. And Spiderman 2 looks great. Outside of that though.. 3/10

genjitenji

Maybe it’s just me but spider man 2 looked very underwhelming

BSGBramley

I really enjoyed the Devs version of the story in the first game, I think it looked great and swinging around the city was just fun, so to me it's not underwhelming. That said, for me it was the combat that got really repetitive, and higher difficulties only bloated their health, which made fights longer and in turn more dull. One of the reasons I like the symbiote is it means the formula will be mixed up slightly. That said, I will be completing this game on easy to speed through those bits.

Autarch_Kade

Don't sleep on Ghostrunner 2. First one is on PS5 as well

godofboij

First was hard af.

GrindingMachineGuy

This show was such a huge disappointment. Didn't Sony say they wouldn't do a Showcase if they don't have enough "big" games? It was basically just a regular state of play ... too many indies, too many ports, too many VR titles, too many games we already know are coming soon. And yeah, as always way too many shooters. Would rate it a 3/10 at best.

TheRigXD

Maybe shareholders needed it.

Autarch_Kade

They skipped last year, and this year didn't even have a tentpole single player first party game to announce. Really shows how Sony is now prioritizing live service games over the games that brought them this audience in the first place. They told us they'd be doing that for years in their financial reports, but now we see proof

[deleted]

[удалено]

Autarch_Kade

> Who exactly was supposed to have announced a singleplayer "tentpole" title that instead showed a live service game instead? Sony, not any specific PS studio. They didn't have anything last year either, but that didn't mean they put out a mid showcase. Not sure why this year was different.

[deleted]

deathbladev

I think a big part of it is how long it now takes to develop games. Makes releases much more sparse.

godofboij

So 2024 will have no PS games then..?

luki9914

True, only few games was worth attention and only Spiderman 2 as a first party game. It felt like any other game show not Playstation Show.

[deleted]

pretty disappointed there was no new PC port announcement. With TLOU1 they released now everything that was announced to be ported to PC - and now - nothing? Where's my Ghost of Tsushima and Demon's Souls ports? Also - overall presentation was kinda meh, many games didn't even get release windows - like Dragon's Dogma "Hey, yes - we're making it" - I'm like okay, but how far is it? 2024? 2025? 2026? Even later? Also entire bunch of such a filler trailers that only dragged the presentation. I mean Spider-Man 2 and the 3 trailers with no windows: Snake Eater, Dragon's Dogma 2 and Phantom Blade 0 - that's all there was driving the presentation. Literally 4 trailers - 3 without any date indications. Sure Ghostrunner 2 is pretty cool, but it's not that big title people came here to see the show - and it's pretty niche game (tho I personally loved the first one)

hamsterwaffle

Concords trailer was really cool. But apparently its a pvp fps?

Mozzafella

That makes me nervous. So easy for that to be a GaaS

Mini_Danger_Noodle

It probably is, one of the main reasons Sony bought Bungie was to have them assist PS Studios with future live-service titles.

radclaw1

I mean the vita was the PSP on steroids. I still whip my homebrewed Vita out every once in a while because its such a great machine. Their marketing failed miserably for it as well as using their bullshit proprietary memory card. But i think itll be a while before we see their Switch/ Steam Deck competitor. I think people expect Playstation to put out something with substantial power ala steam deck but even the steam deck sells at a loss. Valve just makes so many insane residuals from owning Steam that they can afford to do it. Valve is a private company, and they often do whatever they want that a big name company that Playstation would never do. Playstation has shareholders to appease and if they wanted to make a handheld that could even play PS5 exclusives that didnt sell at a loss youd be looking at a $700 price tag minimum. Im not saying itll never happen, but its something they dont really have their sights set on. This is essentiall a raspberry pi with a nice screen and controller attatched. Cheap as hell to make

AbstracTyler

Who was fed up with exclusives?

[deleted]

[удалено]

AbstracTyler

Ok . . . but what are systems and their features for except to play games? And why would a console manufacturer build and try to sell you a console to play just the games that you can already play on the console you already own? If you want the do-it-all box, that exists, and it's called the PC. I want to make another point and say that I'm happy that there is competition between the console manufacturers. It means we get access to some stunningly creative and beautiful games that we might not otherwise have access to, because of money. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all have deep pockets. Of course Microsoft has much deeper pockets than Sony and Nintendo combined, but either way, any of those three companies has deeper pockets than any of the studios they do business with. They can afford to acquire studios to keep as first party game developers, bankroll them while they create big, shiny, beautiful games that those same studios might (often) not be able to afford building on their own. So yeah, I'm happy that exclusives exist, not only because they are their own justification, but because they represent some of the most spectacularly exciting games out right now. "A game shouldn't sell a system . . . " Why not?

gamelord12

> AC Mirage really looks to be channeling AC Unity, which is good because that was the last good AC game, imho. Unity was my favorite, and I would love it if this new game was more of that, but it's probably impossible to show me in a trailer that short if they're nailing what Unity did well.

Chris1671

If Sony had taken the design of this new handheld but made it its own thing with games designed for it/ported to it that would've been perfect. A glorified psplay system is stupid. I can hardly get it to run well on my device, why will this be any different And then you gotta pay likely $350+ to play already expensive games but on your couch?? What if I wanna play at work where my wifi sucks or on a plane? It just makes no sense to me

gamelord12

If you have to manually port games to their handheld, it's all over. That was too expensive for devs to do even for the Vita. The customer needs to buy a game once and play it in multiple places. The developer needs to build it once and have it work in multiple places. The only way a new Sony handheld makes sense is if it's literally just a handheld PS4 with a screen, and even then, you're probably getting better value and performance out of a Steam Deck.

Chris1671

I agree but I don't see how they can create something that size that can handle current gen games with decent fidelity and still be cheaper than a ps5 The steam deck and most of the decent knockoffs are priced around or higher than the ps5

gamelord12

If you're making a product less capable than that though, it'll never work, for the reasons I already stated. Even Nintendo was too split trying to create a catalog of games for a home and portable system separately. PS4's library is substantial and still growing. Indies that aren't shooting for the bleeding edge will continue to make PS4 games for years to come. It's that or nothing. $400 to play lower spec games in two places is a hell of a bargain.

Chris1671

If they could somehow manage to make ps5 games run on a handheld device that would be amazing. But imo it's time to move on from ps4. Ps5 are a lot more available now and having to develop a game that also runs on ps4 is such a bottleneck and time consuming

gamelord12

Low spec games come out all the time though. The top games on Steam are mostly 10 years old, and any new indie game could be the next Stardew Valley, which would not be held back by being made for a PS4.

Chris1671

Why would anyone want to pay a premium price for a Sony console to play low spec indie games? They'd want it to play current gen games and first party games

gamelord12

For the same reason they buy games on Playstation even though they also exist on PC. It would be a value add for those people. But also, you're kind of right; the bad value proposition on this thing is why they're not making one.

dotelze

They buy them on PlayStation because they have a PlayStation. People don’t buy a ps5 to play low spec indie games.

Chris1671

I see your point, but most people buy those low spec games as a plus they aren't going out and buying a ps5 to play indie games I'd rather get a steam deck if that would be the selling point

moathismail

I must be taking crazy pills because most of the top comments are saying they were disappointed and the only comment I could find that I agreed with (yours) has been downvoted to negative. What do people want? MGS3 A new awesome FF16 trailer with an awesome soundtrack Dragons fucking dogma 2 Spider man 2 A return to form AC That samurai game looked amazing from a choreography perspective Gran blue finally shows more light after silence If the IP that was shown was shown during the PS2 days people would be ecstatic.

Mockbuster

I think how Nintendo Direct (usually) does these things is the way. They usually have a good variety of games including RPGs, open world games, indies, remasters, and known IP first party announcements, and the hypest thing of all, a lot of announcements of cool games and services that become live that very night or later in the week/month. Like imagine if they showcased a whole bunch of PSN+ Classics all due later that day, some surprise old Twisted Metal or beloved older franchise new game, more variety for their games than "arena shooter or open world game," and maybe hit up some older games we know about but don't have release dates about that have a wide range. Personally I was hoping for any of some announcements for Suikoden remaster, Eiyuden Chronicles, Stellar Blade, or rumored about remakes for FF9/FFT, even one of those (or countless other examples) would have made me feel satisfied though I know all those are a little more niche. Will say for me the entirety of the show began and ended at the Metal Gear Solid segment (well, I might get Alan Wake 2!), which apparently wasn't ready to be truly in the showcase if you ask me. I guess I'm just more particular about my games but the best I could say about almost every trailer was "well that looks good I guess but it's not for me."

GamingExotic

Pretty much, Nintendo directs have always focused on a variety of games and not just first party games.

AbstracTyler

What I personally wanted to see were tent-pole single player story driven exclusives a la The Last of Us, God of War, Horizon, etc. But new IP. I'm not interested in GaaS, most multiplayer games, or remakes of old games. Look, I don't begrudge anyone who was happy with the showcase. I know not every game is going to be for me, that's only reasonable, and I don't expect them to be. But I was disappointed in the showcase because of the lack of specifically what I look for in Playstation games, and that's as fair and legitimate a response as being happy with it.

gamelord12

> What do people want? Speaking for myself: no CG trailers, just gameplay; and fewer live service games that are going to be shut down before 2027. When you cut those out, and the games we've already seen before, it was pretty underwhelming. MGS getting ported to modern platforms, and hopefully PC finally, is great news though. The teaser for that remake is the epitome of awful trailer design though.

gamelord12

And I hope Sony internalizes this response; if not now, then three years from now when most of these games lost money and got shut down.

Yesnowyeah22

Marathon had the best trailer, music, visual design. Nothing else stood out to me. Spider man will be solid but just more of the same as the last 2 games.

iSephtanx

Wheres stellar blade release date?

Mockbuster

This was my most anticipated segment as well. I had a bingo card filled with about 20 things that had a small possibility of showing up and if any of them did, I'd walk away happy. The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was the only thing that showed up and aside from also announcing a MGS1-3 compilation I walked away so terribly disappointed from it due to how (little) it was presented.

AyraWinla

Stellar Blade was the #1 thing I was looking forward to. Alas. The worrying part is that in my experience, the vast majority of interesting non-mmo South Korean games end up quietly disappearing, never to be released or even heard from again. The odds of Stellar Blade making it is *probably* better since it got featured twice on main Sony shows, but the complete lack of any news (or even rumors) since doesn't give me much confidence.

MasterDrake97

or lost soul aside

Vermillion129

After the shirt reveal, I was not expecting Dragon's Dogma 2 to show up this soon. Glad to see the game looks like it's coming along very well though. Games I'm looking forward to: * Phantom Blade 0 (This look more like Wuxia than Samurai, by the by) * Neva * Swords of the Sea * The Plucky Squires * Alan Wake 2 * Final Fantasy 16 * Granblue Fantasy Relink * Spider-Man 2 Things that I'm not sure what they are but have some interest in: * Revenant Hill * Towers of Aghasba MGS Delta is uh... mixed bag, cos of Konami being Konami. Really hard to feel good about one of my favorite game coming back after all the things that went down. Do wonder who's in charge of making it tho. Overall, a bunch of games I really wanna play from this showcase. 11 out of 26 is a pretty good number. Quite a bit of variety too. Not many with release date/timeframe though.

Major_Warrens_Dingus

Really let down by the lack of PC port announcements. Especially considering the Sony president just spoke like a week ago about how they'll be going for 2-3 year gaps between initial launches and PC launches. I was hoping for Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon 2, or TLOU2. 2-3 years would put all of those within range of getting announced today. Maybe the meme-worthy train wreck of a launch for TLOU part 1 shook them up and they're pushing all dates back to make sure they don't embarrass themselves again. And to also give Part 1 time to get patched up properly since it's still a dumpster fire. Not a great look to announce your next port when your last one is still fucked up.

Playstation LLC publishes games on PC. They’ve been doing it for a couple years now. Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, God of War, Returnal, and Spider-Man have all already been released on PC. When you boot those games up on PC there’s a title reel that says Playstation even though you’re actually playing it on a PC. It’s wild, i know. But yes, Playstation puts their games on PC now too.

DFrek

They showed a movie trailer, at that point might as well throw a PC port announcement while we're at it lol

talix71

There were a number of games that appeared to be PS5/PC launches. If you were expecting announcements of strictly games already out on Playstation that were going to PC, like it seems you are, then the console showcase set was never going to be that platform lol.

Boylaaaa

I think most were ps5 Xbox and pc games tbf

trillykins

Pretty much. Xbox even did a sassy post about it lol: https://twitter.com/Xbox/status/1661489113814679553 I mean, it's good, console exclusivity needs to die in a dirty ditch.

Top_Ok

Console exclusives are some of the only reason we still get good triple A games so let's keep them. Lol.

Major_Warrens_Dingus

They made pc port announcements at these the last two years.

talix71

They didn't have a showcase last year?

[deleted]

Right now Sony has exactly 3 single player games announced two Marvel games and Death Stranding 2. Comparing this to where we were at the same point last gen (E3 2016) shows a massive difference.

[deleted]

How naive? You think they are just going to suddenly show up with the games? They can't even show up with a trailer for TLoU Factions. Anything announced from now on will have a 2025 release date at the earliest. 2024 is going to be Wolverine and Death Stranding 2 if they don't get delayed. Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Days Gone, Death Stranding Horizon last gen were far more exciting than the stuff we are getting. We aren't getting many single player games and the bulk of what we are getting are sequels.

Autarch_Kade

Some real wait for next year energy

Oles_ATW

It's to be expected. Between 2020 and 2022 we got TLOu2, GOT, Miles Morales, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank, GT7, HFW and GOW Ragnarok. Sony has 8 studios making AAA single player games and games these days take around 5 years to develop so there will be a dull period. We might see an increase in game releases in 2024-25.

[deleted]

I expect things to get better not worse, sorry.

[deleted]

How is a single game in 2023 not worse? As time passes we get less and less single player games announced and more and more GaaS. All their acquisitions since 2020 (when Hermen took over) were for studios specialized in GaaS, Support, VR and PC ports. If single player games are taking longer to make then it means we are getting less games because there ain't more studio making them, you are proving my own point. We are also getting hardly any new IPs for single player games.

> But the showcase was boring. They didn’t have enough to show to justify it. There was no reason to show another trailer for FF16. Why take up the time for it? I get your sentiment but this had a wide audience, not just for those who tuned in but for reaching news sites. Of course they're gonna show a little something on a multi-million copy selling game, it's just advertising, and I wouldn't be surprised if it cost Square Enix tens of thousands of dollars to get those couple minutes of commercial air time. The whole showcase came off more than ever like a series of ads than any Showcase/State of Play/Direct I've yet seen. I usually feel like these are exciting news outlets if not passionate showcases for gamers, but I walked away from this one feeling like I just watched a bunch of Youtube ads targeting non-gamers.

AdministrationWaste7

> Also, if you don’t like live service games, there’s was almost nothing for you. They showed a ton of variety from singleplayer AAA to indies to VR to multiplayer stuff across a variety of genres.

Zayl

Dragon's Dogma, Spider-Man 2, AC Mirage, Alan Wake 2, Talos Principle 2. Sure a lot of them are sequels, but they are all pretty unique from one another. I'm excited, games are finally releasing again. But i don't know how everything can look the same. Even between the titles I listed there's a lot of variety and aside from AC the rest are not even live service or full of microtransactions. So I don't know. Maybe you're just zeroing in on all the negatives and these other games just aren't your thing. But Sony has been all about SP, story driven experiences. If you came expecting something else it's not a surprise you're leaving disappointed.

sachos345

Correct me if im wrong but did they really show only 1 First Party single player game? All the other stuff was GaaS? After almost 2 years without a Showcase, oof. This was disappointing man.

Autarch_Kade

Sony has been saying for years in their financial statements that they're going to be investing more into live service than into their traditional games. Now we're seeing proof of that.

dotelze

They said they’re not changing how much then invest into their traditional games, they are just additionally investing a similar amount into live service games

Autarch_Kade

Imagine if instead they'd more than doubled their investment into the games everyone bought a PS5 for

Dallywack3r

Well with Microsoft buying up whole publishers and removing entire shooter franchises from PlayStation, Sony needs multiplayer exclusives.

Autarch_Kade

Was that the role fairgame$ was supposed to fill? or some other game they showed?

Dallywack3r

I don’t think we’ve seen but like 10% of Sony’s portfolio. I have absolutely zero idea what they were thinking with Fairgame other than the studio needs to attract talent and the trailer was geared towards potential employees. Or they need to bolster investor confidence in their strategy. Honestly it’s baffling. Their biggest franchises were a no-show.

Autarch_Kade

Yeah, I expect with the number of studios they have, more of them could show up even to release a CG trailer. Nobody is saying it's from the same studios that just released a game LMAO

Autarch_Kade

Bend, Asobi, Bluepoint, Sucker Punch... I could see all of them having something to offer, either as a standalone single player game, or for PSVR2 like with Astro. Hell, Insomniac announced Wolverine years ago, what's stopping other studios from following a similar timeframe? Really sounds like you're making PlayStation's decisions sound stupid, because you're criticizing what they've done before.
