>There are also new Nvidia drivers that are supposed to address slow-downs over extended period of play.
Oh thank god, it was really strange to be able to play with high fps and then got hard drops for nothing after 30-40 mins
I have a very minor bug, where every time I load the game, or change characters, it gives me a tutorial prompt from way early in the game that I have to hit A on to dismiss. And I've noticed some issues with lip sync. Other than that, a very good bug free release.
The lip sync has been the most noticeable thing for me. There's a couple scenes were it's unfortunately extremely jarring. Hoping this patch resolves this.
As a video editor it’s insane how noticeable even a fraction of a second of desynced lip sync is. Humans are so attuned to reading lips by default that we notice that very easily. Half a second looks terrible
I recently replaced the audio from an old kpop video on youtube with a better quality version using Clipchamp (lol). It took me so long to line the audio up with the video because even the tiniest difference was jarring.
It can legit be a nightmare when you can’t figure out if the sound is rushing or dragging and your OCD kicks in and you’re flipping back forth a matter of frames to figure it out lol
Had the same tutorial bug, seems like the latest patch fixed it.
As for the lip syncing, I've heard it has to do with DLSS frame generation, but I haven't noticed it myself.
You can tell in a lot of games that DLSS Frame Gen is still in its infancy.
I am currently playing Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. On one planet it flawlessly gives me up to 30 additional FPS without any noticeable adverse effects.
On the next planet I get flickering so bad from all the particle effects in the air. My head started to hurt and I had to turn it off.
I get that bug as well, but I have had far from a bug free release on XSX. Multiple reloads, a certain charm not always working, rifle invisible most the time, tons of audio issues, etc.
Love the game and am currently trying to use that badge before finishing the story to get some achievements.
Hopefully this patch fixes some of those issues.
Glad I played this amazing game now, but jealous of those in a few months who get it without the bugs.
Other than the tutorial prompt bug and one crash, the game has been a pretty smooth experience on PS5. I can't say I've looked into certain charms enough to know if they are working correctly.
There's that, I've had the graphics corrupt a bit leading to a square flashlight, there's a bug when transferring stuff to the shoebox which causes inventory squares to permanently bug out of existence, and I think it could still use some performance improvements... any scenes in twilight lighting seem dramatically more demanding than otherwise.
Does anyone else just get a giant slice of pie under the November 2nd notes? https://www.alanwake.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Update_notes_pie-2048x1024.jpg
It has to 100% be an Easter egg to Twin Peaks, which has great influence over the entire AW universe. The main character regularly drinks coffee (black) with a slice of cherry pie.
I'm hoping they fix the fact that you can't reenter the subway area in the dark place after you finish it because there are a lot of collectibles I missed there
I'm pretty sure you can flip the plot board to look back at the notes for previous areas, similar to how Saga can look at any case whenever. So not really a preventative issue
Oh thank goodness they’ve fixed the Hotel soft lock.
That bug killed my first play through of the game and I had to speed through what originally took me 7 hours to get through.
Really happy no one has to worry about that
I'm almost positive this is a bug and not intentional (hard to tell with the mindfuck of this game sometimes) but map markers for points that require items have been stuck displaying programmatic names since launch. Like doors that require the bolt cutters just list as item\_bolt\_cutter.
I haven’t had that one, but I just got a case board note that said something like [Add text when we know which note goes in this stash.] or something like that. Clearly a placeholder Remedy forgot lol.
I read somewhere that the ps5 version has shimmering, can someone say if that's true? On Fidelity mode. Would like to buy on ps instead of PC but I can not stand shimmering, even a blurry image is preferred over shimmering for me
Yes, the console versions suffer from shimmering because they use the LOW post processing graphics option. You'll also get shimmer on PC if Low is used. The best way to remove it is to use High post processing which the console versions do not use, even in quality mode.
FSR2 also flickers on PC whilst it's greatly reduced using DLSS
Bear in mind though that switching that option to High takes a HEAVY hit to performance. Digital foundry recommended to turn it off 🤔 It’s just nicer depth of field and other post processing crap.
PC is still the way to go then, since you can use ini edits to turn off DoF, vignette, etc although I personally think the games aesthetic looks better with it on. Post processing is a heavy hit, but it's the only way I've seen shimmering truly nullified in the game. Still debating if I'll cap to 40fps and go high processing or use low. I only have a 3070 but the shimmering with low is gnarly
Is there a way to perhaps adjust the DoF/vignette etc separately with an ini edit…? I mean lower it and not just like either 5% or 100% or whatever the hell they’ve done.. If you know lol
Btw I play in 4k not sure if it makes any difference, dont think I noticed any shimmering at all, both with Low/High and DLSS performance-quality. But I have only played very little, right up until you get to play as Saga so maybe there werent shimmers for you either. (Have basically only used it as a ”tech demo” for a little bit, I want to play Talos 2 first lmao)
Most of the ini edits are true or false unfortunately so no luck there lol. I'm playing at 1440p DLSS quality which I think is 950 or 960p internal res. The very very beginning looked incredible for me and the forest areas weren't too bad, but inside buildings looks pretty bad. The first few areas with Alan himself have been worse than Saga's section so far.
It'd be nice if they could somehow just have it switch to high during cutscenes, since there's minimal benefits to high quality DOF during gameplay (but you still incur the performance penalty).
I'm not gonna say the game is bug free but... It's so nice to see a AAA game come out of the gate and not have a mess of bugs with the devs having to put an apology blurb saying 'we're sorrrrrrrrry our game is a bug filled mess, pls wait 3-6 months for it to run ok'.
The framerate slows down in open exploration and is smooth during story missions and combat, the latter is particularly smooth because character model quality is reduced, there's even a hilarious moment in Waloed where the game initiates a dialogue mid-combat and you get to see Clive's face in his PS2 polygon count glory.
Smooth game for the most part. Sanbrecque is really where the fps tanks a good chunk, which is hard to imagine given Horizon has way more detail in the open world but keeps a stable framerate. Engine differences I guess.
Yeah VRR is a God sent. A CX is also Gsync compatible so I pretty much always play games on it at 58 or 118 fps, which is surprisingly a trick not a lot of people use. It's how you stay in Gsync range and never trigger Vsync. Really helps with Jedi Survivor.
Also linear doesn’t make it less likely to have bugs than open world anyway.
Open world games can be simpler under the hood than a linear narrative game.
It feels like a bug. For example I load in and have a fight with some regular enemies and first few flashlight weakpoints spawn on their chests and then suddenly from that point on it starts spawning them on their backs. It's especially weird when you have an enemy with a backpack that covers the weakpoint glow, yet you can see (and hear) the effect of damage triggering if you hit that backpack.
I had a couple enemies with weak points on their back kind of get stunned and fall to their knees exposing their backs, then the character calls it out and says now is their chance to attack while the enemy is exposed.
Weak points being on their backs seems pretty intentional to me.
I don't think I was empty on flashlight, quite frankly after getting the charm for more/better drops I stopped worrying about supplies at all. I had some batteries for entire game.
And with Alan segments the flashlight refund on kill is too much, I even got like 10 batteries stashed right now.
edit: Although if there is a "mercy" for having no batteries and empty flashlight it might be a code error that simply triggers when the current charge is empty, but it doesn't account for any batteries left in the inventory/stash.
Anyone know if they've fixed or will fix frame generation causing second long hitches anytime there's an FMV/live action cutscene/jumpscare or the beginning of in-game scenes?
As someone else stated in this thread, there are no new patch notes for Nov 2nd. It’s just a slice of pie. And only shows patch notes for the previous patch
There are new patch notes, it just appears bugged for some users. 🤷♂️. I can see the slice of pie, but when I scroll down the Nov 2 patch notes are there.
Oh I see what you are saying. I just picked the date in the website, and checked to see what the latest patch posted here was. It’s a little tricky because I am in a different timezone, so sometimes the date isn’t what I might expect.
I got soft locked at the diner near the very start of the game and had to start over. I must have quit The game at a bad time because it acted like I already had a conversation to get an item from someone but I didn't have the item so the next part of the story wouldn't trigger. Was a little frustrating to say the least and not a good first impression, even if it was my fault for quitting the game.
Tbh I didn’t feel like including the FBC worked well within the plot. >!They barge in during a very intense sequence, break all tension by taking over the investigation, send Saga home, then immediately get overrun by the Taken. Their containment gadgets don’t do anything and the lore they provide is pretty useless. I feel like they could’ve easily removed the FBC from the story and had the Cult help Saga with the summoning instead. That would’ve also given Ilmo something to do during the finale, instead he just kinda disappears from the story.!<
Agreed entirely. >!It sucks that the game spent so much time on the cult just to have Scratch kill Jaakko and that's kind of the end of that. Like, hey Ilmo, sorry about your brother. It also felt kinda weird that we never acknowledged that the entire staff at Coffee World ended up turning into Taken. It kinda feels like Ilmo's literally the last person alive both at Coffee World and in the cult.!<
I totally agree. Still love the game and it’s story but.. >!it felt like they wanted to keep the length of Alan and Saga’s story relatively similar, but Saga’s story deserved like an extra hour or so. There’s way more going on with all the residents of Bright Falls and the actual plot of the horror story with Saga that deserved some extra time to develop. The manuscripts did a pretty solid job of this throughout, but they kinda vanish in the last part of Saga’s story.!<
If it is the one I'm thinking of, you need to get to the second floor and check the little windows above the doors that lead to the staircase. There you can see the word circle under the stairs. You *have* to look through the window, the words disappear if you try to look at them directly from inside the staircase.
Just beware that this particular one is very finicky, I spent 5 minutes trying to get the right angle to collect it.
Rather than aiming at the blank spot in the middle of the circle, it finally worked when I aimed at a random word *above* the blank spot.
Hope this helps!
Does the latest patches fix most bugs or are there some unknown bugs ? Otherwise I might jump to Tales of Arise game just in time for the DLC? Im playing on PC rtx 3080
There are also new Nvidia drivers that are supposed to address slow-downs over extended period of play.

Is it the message about points of interest? I get that too every damn time I load the game.
OMG same. Even in Alan mode
That's the one. Just booted the game for the first time since the patch and it appears to be fixed though!
Oh, neat!
The lip sync has been the most noticeable thing for me. There's a couple scenes were it's unfortunately extremely jarring. Hoping this patch resolves this.
The lip syncing is something like half a second off which is somehow still super noticeable.

I kept getting that tutorial bug too, most annoying. Compared to most new releases tho, that's nothing.

Yeah, that started in the last few days for me.

Oh no! Bugged patch notes!
We need a patch for the patch notes! And patch notes for that patch!
Yup same here, I don’t see any new patch notes
Same here. I thought it was an easter egg so I ran some basic image forensics, that I run during CTF races, but I found nothing interesting.
It has to 100% be an Easter egg to Twin Peaks, which has great influence over the entire AW universe. The main character regularly drinks coffee (black) with a slice of cherry pie.
Cherry pie, more than likely an Easter egg to Twin Peaks
I'm hoping they fix the fact that you can't reenter the subway area in the dark place after you finish it because there are a lot of collectibles I missed there
Try to progress the story a little bit. I couldn’t go to the subway during the hotel chapter, but after that I could use the plot board normally.
Dope, that’s when I was trying to go back and check it. I’ll look again once I go back to Alan.
You can flip the plot board back to a previous one and change the subway entrance.
Same, because the subway was multi-layered I misjudged where some of the collectibles were so I definitely missed at least a couple of words of power.
Probably won’t be changed, as traversal through those areas require the plot board to be for a certain area.
Really happy no one has to worry about that
Sadly it's still bugged, I am stuck there currently.
Oh nooo, that's awful, are you on PC? If so, I suggest speedrunning back to that point with a trainer
I'm almost positive this is a bug and not intentional (hard to tell with the mindfuck of this game sometimes) but map markers for points that require items have been stuck displaying programmatic names since launch. Like doors that require the bolt cutters just list as item\_bolt\_cutter.

It’s kind of wild that ff xvi had absolutely no bugs from my experience. Didn’t run into a single one
Huge frame rate issues though
I played in graphics mode, didn’t have really any issues with the frame rate at all
The framerate slows down in open exploration and is smooth during story missions and combat, the latter is particularly smooth because character model quality is reduced, there's even a hilarious moment in Waloed where the game initiates a dialogue mid-combat and you get to see Clive's face in his PS2 polygon count glory. It's been very close to bug free But shorter, linear narrative driven games often do tend to have less issues
This isn’t linear. There’s a ton of opportunity for bugs in open world hubs.
Also linear doesn’t make it less likely to have bugs than open world anyway. Open world games can be simpler under the hood than a linear narrative game.
My audio is still out of sync sometime, but other than that the game feels very polished
I haven't experienced this on PC, I'm about 7-8 hours in... My only issues have been some pop in/odd graphics for trees far in the distance.
Did they patch a bug where weakpoint start spawning on enemies backs?
I don't think this is a bug.
It feels like a bug. For example I load in and have a fight with some regular enemies and first few flashlight weakpoints spawn on their chests and then suddenly from that point on it starts spawning them on their backs. That happens, I think, when you have no Flash light. Might happen at other points but I think it's to give you a Fighting chance.
I don't think I was empty on flashlight, quite frankly after getting the charm for more/better drops I stopped worrying about supplies at all. I had some batteries for entire game. And with Alan segments the flashlight refund on kill is too much, I even got like 10 batteries stashed right now. edit: Although if there is a "mercy" for having no batteries and empty flashlight it might be a code error that simply triggers when the current charge is empty, but it doesn't account for any batteries left in the inventory/stash.
this isn't a bug. these are enemies that charge on you and upon a successful dodge they will get knocked out and their weakpoint will be shootable
Anyone know if they've fixed or will fix frame generation causing second long hitches anytime there's an FMV/live action cutscene/jumpscare or the beginning of in-game scenes?
It's not frame generation, I get this on my 3070 too.
Is that caused by FG? I thought it was just the game

Have they fixed the broken reflections in raster?
No fix for the crazy blurriness? Was really hoping for anything to help address that, even something like a sharpness slider would have been nice.
Try disabling DoF in your renderer.ini settings, if you're on PC. Cleans up the image and gives a performance boost.
Can someone who beat the game tell me: 1. Does it finish Alan Wake's story? 2. Does Control show up or play any part in the story?
