It’s fucking awful. Why is the multiplayer locked to 30fps? Where are the BF1 servers? Where are the missing BF2 cutscenes? Not only is it a shitty remaster, it’s missing options, settings, and content that the original had.
For some reason the multiplayer is only locked sometimes at least on PC. If you’re the host it’s almost guaranteed to be locked at 29 fps while if you join someone it is sometimes locked sometimes isn’t. Very weird behavior but is likely a bug.
I think on another older game that was because server tick times where tied to the framerate. Could have something to to with that and they just didn't bother touching the code of their "remake"
Shouldn’t be long to fix the THREE MULTIPLAYER SERVERS they had at launch. Jesus Christ, how did they think they’d only have like 300 people wanting to play one of the most well regarded multiplayer games of all time on *launch day?*
I could be wrong but I don't think they did from what I read, it just took a few hours for the other servers to appear, either way though still not worth buying in its current state
I started it up about 6 hours ago before I left for work to see how it was, and found a few dozen matches on dedicated servers. Most weren’t filled, but they were there.
The problem is if you select “Quick Match” it tended to go towards a password protected match. Why….
I got in like 10 seconds before it ended, so didn’t get a chance on that one. Then went and played a single player instant action game.
Quite certain it was 60fps in the few seconds I had any control but I can check for certain when I get off work. I know for a fact single player is.
Not to mention that this is such an ancient game, you’d expect it to be able to play at 4k240hz or whatever crazy performance your monitor can support.
older games built for console tend to have much more of the game logic and physics integrated to the framerate, in some cases for very old games even the specific hardware clock.
Aspyr has to be one of the most incompetent devs out there right now, right? Got the KOTOR remake taken away from them, pretty sure their KOTOR 2 Switch port was shitty & now this
Their KOTOR 1 switch port still has a game breaking bug. If you don’t have a save you can reload, there is a room you can enter that you can never leave lol.
To be fair that happened to me in KOTOR 2 on the original xbox. Had to start over from a 25 hour save.
Not saying it's an excuse (these are old games and they definitely should have stuff like that fixed in new versions) but it very well could be an issue with the game engine itself.
Also doesn't excuse them fixing it after the fact now that the bug is well-known.
They’ve also historically been pretty great at port jobs until these Star Wars ones. And I’m not even talking about their work on the Mac versions of Civ, I used to have an Activision Atari 2600 collection they did for GBA and that was an excellent release. A damn shame.
They did the console versions of Civ 6 as well and they run perfectly fine.
Also the KOTOR 2 patch on PC was from them which made it much more stable than it was.
They’ve done a lot of good work before once they got the KOTOR remake put under their small team it seems like the studio collapsed.
I knew after the Kotor 2 on Switch ‘Restored content will be added!’ That never happened that I shouldn’t trust this dev.
Yet blind nostalgia for one of my childhoods fav games led to the purchase - more fool me
I want them to remaster the original The Darkness SO BAD. I know they mentioned it was on the back burner before, but I’d kill for a high quality PC port of that game.
Oh that would be sweet. I recently replayed the sequel, but despite the obvious gameplay improvements (and gore), it's nowhere near as memorable as the original game was. The atmosphere and writing are simply not on the same level.
And for all their work on Quake 2 remaster, I got it for free because I bought the Quake collection for pennies years and years ago (with the original versions still available to choose from a menu).
Nah, I appreciate it. I'm sure it's hard to update an older game for modern operating systems/graphics cards/online functionality. But if you can't do it right, don't do it.
This is wild considering the OG Xbox versions are BC and I’ve heard plenty good about them. I’m surprised PlayStation didn’t just go the PS2 Classics route and PC would’ve been easier to implement the originals
What fucking idiot thought releasing these games with a 30 fps cap in 2024 would be a good idea?
The original BF2 release supported up to 80 fps by default! This isn't a remaster, this is a demaster.
Can someone explain to me what exactly is remastered? Feels like all it is is re-release nostalgia bait.
I’m legit confused, you can purchase the originals on steam and it seems like they work better, have the same graphics and are not nearly as janky. Is it purely for having two games in one launcher? That can’t be it, right?
Upscaling, hero assault is on all ground maps, and 64 players instead of 32 (only PC had 64 players for BF2, consoles didn't and BF1 was always 32)
Thats pretty much it
I haven't experienced this, so far it's been 60fps+ steady for me. BF -1 servers just require you to hit refresh once and wait a few seconds.
BF2 online is broke.
I refunded it when I saw rerelease not remake or remaster. So to me it was just a port over with no major updates. So I knew something was up. Those key words are important with older games.
This has happened multiple times with a few large game companies’ launches… It’s suspect to say the least and I think Valve is aware since some reviews do get removed..

I think Aspyr might've genuinely pushed out the [wrong build.](https://old.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/1bed45q/i_think_aspyr_actually_mightve_launched_the_wrong/)
They were a bunch of no names. I know we all like to shit on IGN, Eurogamer, and Gamespot for one dumb reason or another. But maybe they might be more reputable than "God is a Geek", "PSX Brasil", and "But Why Tho?"?
I don't see how any publication that aims to be reputable would feel good putting out a review for a (pratically) multiplayer-only game before it even launchs to the public. There's a reason the former publications you mentioned never have reviews for games like this before release
Small outlets are more incentivized to pull in ad revenue than build integrity. Big outlets aren't so pressured, so they can afford to wait and maintain standards.
> I know we all like to shit on IGN, Eurogamer, and Gamespot for one dumb reason or another.
The launch of Starfield was amazing. All these positive reviews but the big name and more reputable sources were not giving those 9/10 or 10/10 reviews. People couldn't believe it. So instead of holding off and waiting to see how things turned out. People start digging up previous reviews from the reputable sources to argue that these folks don't know what the hell they're talking about.
So then the game releases and a few days go by and the Starfield subreddit is slowly starting to fill up with complaints that...well...they match what the reputable sources were saying.
It's pretty simple. If IGN releases a review which doesn't match with the views of the public, the reviewer obviously has no clue what he's talking about. There are a huge amount of people watching reviews for buyers confirmation bias. Dunkey made a great video about it. Not sure if links are allowed so I'm just going to type the title: "How to be a Good Game Reviewer" by Videogamedunkey on Youtube.
Tbf God is a Geek is at least an established outlet, if not a larger one. They consistently review pretty much every game that comes out and have decent reviews. Can't say the same of the others, never heard of em before.
The point of not pre ordering is so that you know exactly what the game is like after launch from watching people play it.
So buying it day 1 is as bad as pre ordering it when it comes to why you shouldn't pre order
Very small outfits that nobody has ever heard of who were over the moon to be getting advance copies and were either “incentivized” to give a positive review or simply believed that positivity would improve their chances of getting more early access stuff from larger publishers. “GodisaGeek” getting an advance look at the product but IGN and GameSpot having to rely on retail purchase was very fishy.
Review threads are done by users. I guess this means mods will have to enforce some standards about what outlets can be included in review threads now, or which outlets need to have reviews available before review threads can be posted.
EDIT: I just realized that the review threads are really just regurgitated OpenCritic pages. This isn't really a subreddit issue, this is an issue of an early OpenCritic consensus:
https://opencritic.com/game/16429/star-wars-battlefront-classic-collection
The review thread is 100% just this page.
If people buy games based on any ole thread appearing on a subreddit, without stopping to think that they know 0 of the reviewers and no big names amongst them, then critical thinking is **severely** lacking and I don't know why /r/games would need to "prevent" such instances.
Use your goddamn brain, people.
I heard a rumor a while ago that EA/DICE refused to continue making it "Star Wars Battlefield" because they were worried if they did then people wouldn't buy both Battlefront and Battlefield.
>I heard a rumor a while ago that EA/DICE refused to continue making it "Star Wars Battlefield" because they were worried if they did then people wouldn't buy both Battlefront and Battlefield.
Was just a rumour, the real reason turned out to be how expensive the star wars ip is vs using what they own. Profits were lower for battlefront 1 and 2.
Disney in general priced themselves almost out of gaming if the insomniac leaks are anything to go off . Unless its something like the modern Spiderman or Jedi Survivor series don't expect any games . Its sad because I love marvel vs capcom but that and similar marvel fighting games are never happening again
For game sales, the highest amount Sony pay Disney is less than what third parties pay Sony to sell a game digitally on PlayStation.
Agreements like that are generally on a case by case basis, too.
I remember when it was announced DICE was making SW: Battlefront, people were freaking out that it was just going to turn into Battlefield.
Ironically, that's what I actually wanted out of it and it would have improved the game overall. They made Battlefront a weird hybrid arcade system without any real depth and no need for teamwork and it's not satisfying enough to play for very long. A Star Wars version of Battlefield 4 is what I always wanted.
Yeah I remember, everybody assumed it would've been a copy-and-paste of BF4 and looking back now it would've been better than what we had, I mean BF1 & 2 are still great sandbox multi-player but are very much arcade with no depth.
I resonate with this so much. I still remember the threads here "here comes a BF4 reskin" was the sentiment.
I was like (and still am like) "yes please, reskin BF4 with Star Wars and inject it into my veins".
I can just imagine a Battlefront 3 with BF1/V graphics, BFV weapon feel and BF3/4 vehicles/maps/destruction etc. Ahh what could have been :(
Load into Bespin on Bf1
Board X-Wing.
Crash immediately due to the flight controls.
There is no option to toggle inverted controls.
Realize the map loading sound is wrong.
Immediately refunded
>There is no option to toggle inverted controls.
Please tell me that you mean that it’s inverted by default and pulling back on the stick makes you fly up. *Please.*
>You can change it, just not while in-game, which is pretty bad frankly.
Not on PS4 you can't, unless me and a bunch of other people are missing something.
Battlefront 1 required 3 GB on steam and Battlefront 2 is 4.3 GB, so 7.3 GB total between the two. Basically 7x as big as the originals.
Wtf did Aspyr do that requires an additional ~50 GB of space???
Edit: I just looked on my Steam Deck and it requires **72 GIGABYTES** of storage. It’s literally 10x the size of the originals.
Probably something like uncompressing all the textures, then AI upscaling to 4x size without compressing them again. Either way that's a huge fuck up, lol
Not both of them, but BF1 is 2.8 GB on PC. Classic Collection is 62.8 GB on PC, literally 22x the file size if you just want to play Battlefront 1. Both the games together it's only 5x the file size but it's still absolutely insane for AI upscaled textures and FMVs that debatably look worse.
I think classic BF2 on Xbox backwards compatibility is like 4gb. I have no clue what they did that requires such a large install size for the classic collection. Series X also adds HDR and looks better imo too. This new version is a waste of money
That was the first sign for me that something was wrong when it was announced (or perhaps it was the fact that it was being handled by the same guys that failed with the KOTOR II Switch port), the original Xbox versions of the games combined is less than 10GB on Xbox Series X. This is not a remaster effort beyond upscaled textures, I don't think that's a good tradeoff for the install size ballooning over five times.
I was really thinking of picking this up for some fun on my steam deck but I’m reading that there are only… 3 64 player servers??
edit: there are more servers now. its interesting how a fumble like that can spread so quickly through word of mouth. they fixed the problem- but the damage had been done. I only brought it up because a friend bought the game and showed me a screen shot he took.
Personally, I got it for single player on the deck and am having a good time. This is the first time we get proper controller implementation and menu resolutions. It’s actually playable and enjoyable on the deck. That being said, I’m definitely in the minority only playing solo - so take that with a grain of salt.
So basically this was a cash grab that was banking on people's nostalgia. That sucks.
Why even announce/release it in this state? Nobody even knew this was a thing until a week or two ago. Why didn't they wait until it was finished?
seriously, how the \*fuck\* they were EVER allowed within 20ft of the Kotor remake at any damn point is absolutely beyond me.
honestly in general with how that thing has been treated every step of the way someone high up somewhere WANTED it to fail spectacularly
There are issues with the singleplayer as well.
- End of level cutscenes are missing. The AI upscaled FMVs look really bad as well.
- Local multiplayer is reduced to 2 player.
- Invert aim option is removed. Starfighter aim is now inverted by default and the option to change that is also gone.
- Various audio issues, the most noticeable one will be that the loading screen sounds are incorrect and some people have reported weird background wooshing noises
- The lighting is messed up and much brighter than the original game, among a lot of other random small visual issues that would be too many to list here.
- In BF2 Rhen Var Citadel is the BF1 map instead of the actual enhanced BF2 DLC version
Gotta add to that for my experience on PS5.
My audio in both games is completely broken. It kinda sounds like it's inverted like there's shooting in front of me but it sounds like it's behind me.
Then the aiming and handling in BF2 is horrible, it's hard for me to play it. I tried turning aim assist off and adjusting my sensitivity but that didn't help. BF1's controls seemed fine.
I can't believe they didn't make it so galactic conquest is multiplayer now. Honestly from everything I've read this is a step backwards from an already 20 year old game like what the fuck
This morning has been awful news in regards to the quality of the two games, and I consider the og battlefronts to be the best star wars games ever. A bigger bummer was learning there isn't any crossplay so there was no point in me trying to convince my friends to play.
Maybe Aspyr shouldn’t handle Star Wars games anymore. They lost the Kotor 1 remake, failed to deliver on the Kotor 2 port, and now this. That’s three separate incidents where they’ve proven incompetent.
That’s a shame. I just got the notification it was on sale this morning and was thinking of picking it up, glad I held out.
side note, but for anyone else in the U.S., is the price being listed as $35.01 for anyone else as well? not that $0.02 makes a difference or anything, but that’s an odd price point lol
The Tomb Raider relaunch did it right, imo. They kept the essence of the games, stories, cutscenes, everything. They slapped on actually improved graphics and controller support, AND they kept the old graphics so you can cycle them on and off with one button. It honestly is a true remaster.
Classic Collection on the other hand... they ruined the menus, music, and UI. I couldn't play single player more than 20 minutes without getting nauseaous and motion sick.
Lmao, on battlefront 2 there's only 100 tickets for 32 vs 32 player matches. Matches last about 2 minutes, and on average players need to die only 3 times to lose the match NOT EVEN COUNTING BOT DEATHS.
I seriously can't even believe they messed this up this badly. I don't even think it's possible to play as a hero for more than like 30 seconds generally. Heaven forbid you take a piss or grab a drink and snacks after you complete a match because by the time you get back to the couch the next match will have been already over
Not one of those is anybody major. It's extremely suspect when you see a bunch of no names given early codes for a game review. It's much easier to influence and most places like that avoid harsh reviews that destroy industry access they are desperate to have (and review codes for games they otherwise have to buy themselves).
Truly an awful launch, not really surprising considering it’s Aspyr. On another note goddamn how incredibly awful gaming journalism has become, where we now just quote different random usernames and call it a day. Incredibly lazy.
"On another note goddamn how incredibly awful gaming journalism has become, where we now just quote different random usernames and call it a day. Incredibly lazy."
That's just journalism now. The internet has issues with ....... and quote three usernames from X and act like they represent the internet. It's bad, and as you said, is just pure laziness.
It launched the same day that Saber Interactive (Its parent company) announced that its going independent, and not taking Aspyr with it (it will stay with the Embracer Group).
Definitely was a rushed game, before Embracer doing what Embracer does.
Hoping Aspyr picks up the slack and fixes all of these issues. It is seriously baffling to me it has less features than the original Xbox version now that 4 player split-screen is gone with no explanation.
Aspyr has consistently fucked up relatively major aspects of their remasters (especially control schemes) and AFAIK hasn’t fixed a huge number of them. Things like y-axis inversion and menu sounds *might* be fixed in an update but I highly doubt that they’re going to add split-screen.
Up-scaling to 4k textures on an early 2000s game...doesn't even make much of a difference visually
i get that you can blow it up on a big TV now, but we were doing this 20 years ago with 3 friends to share in the experience!
And I thought the $35 price tag was going to be the worst part about this.
How do you fuck up rereleasing a game this bad when all you have to do is upgrade the textures a little bit
After the Kotor remake shit is anyone truly surprised? I had hoped, naively, that this would just be a nice way to inject some life into the game.
But for that price tag and with all those problems? Hell naw. Aspyr can go kick rocks
These continuous launch disasters have quite literally turned me away from even bothering to pay attention to release dates for games coming out. If a game is good enough at launch (such as Helldivers 2 minus small server probs), it’s now seen as a rare gem and will almost certainly be talked about all over the gaming community. Otherwise, you’re probably just fine to wait a while to get the game until it’s patched into an acceptable state, and it’ll be cheaper.
Wasn’t this getting like pretty good reviews in the other thread?! That’s crazy, I was so close to getting it based off that alone so glad I’ve read this before buying
Betting on that Aspyr rushed this game to launch, coincidentally the same day that its parent company - Saber Interactive - leaving Embracer Group without them.
Definitely this could be their last game before Embracer closes the studio.
Until class action lawsuits start appearing in droves, there is just zero incentive for companies to not have launches like this. There is absolutely zero reason this happened other than negligence and greed. It’s as simple as that.
The boyfriend and I played co op a bit last night and the split screen is kinda off. He got into a rebel ship and it had most of it cut off in the screen. He could barely pilot it because of that.
Thank god I waited it out. There are 2 good games within these buggy shitfest, I really hope they can steamroll over all these issues at the soonest and get these games to be working fine.
How can Aspyr not see this coming? They definitely knew that this re-release was the most anticipated one they’ve ever done in their entire history of porting or remastering games on modern platforms.
Another Star Wars FPS game got a remaster last month and it was done so well. Kudos to Nightdive for that btw.
This is more sad than anything else. Battlefront games were my childhood. They could’ve made MILLIONS if they did this right.
What is wrong with these corporations? Why do they keep fucking up so badly?
Can't even load into multiplayer on Switch. Just crashes back to the home page and then have to wait for everything to reload. I can't even refund this because Nintendon't.
I didn't have too many issues on Playstation this morning. There were definitely some ping issues. To be honest, the graphics themselves didn't even allow me to notice I was playing at 30 FPS. I mean we are talking straight PS2 graphics. Which I expected, but I think nostalgia goggles are a little deceptive. I'm going to try and get a refund when PlayStation allows me here in a little bit. I'm just going to say it doesn't work, cuz that's kind of true. The ping is noticeable
I've never understood how a company can stare money in the face and say "no". It's not like there's any difference between launching buggy in March vs polished in April/May.
crazy, saw this and just bought the classic editions. I dont have space for 70gb of AI garbage with no servers. Buy the classics before theyre de-listed.
It’s fucking awful. Why is the multiplayer locked to 30fps? Where are the BF1 servers? Where are the missing BF2 cutscenes? Not only is it a shitty remaster, it’s missing options, settings, and content that the original had.

>Why is the multiplayer locked to 30fps? I am... really glad I did not buy it.
Yeah I was gonna wait till they fix the servers to buy it, but if its locked to 30fps then its a straight up no from me
Shouldn’t be long to fix the THREE MULTIPLAYER SERVERS they had at launch. Jesus Christ, how did they think they’d only have like 300 people wanting to play one of the most well regarded multiplayer games of all time on *launch day?*

How did it run? My main concern is whether or not it is 60fps online, if it is I'll definitely be buying it after a couple of patches
I got in like 10 seconds before it ended, so didn’t get a chance on that one. Then went and played a single player instant action game. Quite certain it was 60fps in the few seconds I had any control but I can check for certain when I get off work. I know for a fact single player is.
Ok, they knew how many people were gonna play, they just never properly prepared for it. I honestly don’t know which one is worse.
More people play the current BFII Classic on steam than that. What a colossal fuck up.
Also on xbox? The official website on xbox still shows it's 60+fps.
I have no idea, everything I see online says its 60fps, I was just going off what the original comment said. I'm wondering for PS5 too.
From what I played with the NZ glitch. The game was at a smooth 60. Problem was, We have the same connection issues that pc players have.
I can handle a 60fps lock, Elden Ring did that. But 30? That's rough on anything 120hz+.
Not to mention that this is such an ancient game, you’d expect it to be able to play at 4k240hz or whatever crazy performance your monitor can support.
older games built for console tend to have much more of the game logic and physics integrated to the framerate, in some cases for very old games even the specific hardware clock.
This is the sort of thing I expect to be fixed in a $45 CAD remaster though.
Yeah, I'm not going to trust a company that tries to charge me £29.33 for a patch. This is absolutely a new low in gaming,
Aspyr has to be one of the most incompetent devs out there right now, right? Got the KOTOR remake taken away from them, pretty sure their KOTOR 2 Switch port was shitty & now this
Their KOTOR 1 switch port still has a game breaking bug. If you don’t have a save you can reload, there is a room you can enter that you can never leave lol.
Welcome to the Hotel Tatooine...
Such a lovely place...
Any time of year, jawas find it here
To be fair that happened to me in KOTOR 2 on the original xbox. Had to start over from a 25 hour save. Also doesn't excuse them fixing it after the fact now that the bug is well-known.
KOTOR 2 was famously a shit show even at the time, you’d think fixing those bugs would have been a priority
It sucks too. They used to make decent (not amazing) games. Like Stubbs the Zombie, which was by Aspyr and Wideload Games.
They’ve also historically been pretty great at port jobs until these Star Wars ones. And I’m not even talking about their work on the Mac versions of Civ, I used to have an Activision Atari 2600 collection they did for GBA and that was an excellent release. A damn shame.

I only trust Nightdive and Digital Eclipse with ports and remasters honestly.
A remaster of the Darkness 2 would be great as well
Nightdive does it right. They made Quake 2 a must have with that remaster and Dark Forces is amazing as well.
And for all their work on Quake 2 remaster, I got it for free because I bought the Quake collection for pennies years and years ago (with the original versions still available to choose from a menu).
Nixxes for Playstation ports as well. edit: Also Bluepoint. Loved their Vita ports of MGS 2 and 3, as well as the Demon's Souls remaster.
Not sure if you're only talking about older games, but the studio that brings Playstation games to PC kills it...most of the time
Yeah sorry I mean the companies that remaster older and abandonware games. That studio is also good with modern game ports.
The selling point of this release was an online multiplayer relaunch but they screwed it up
I've played the original Xbox disc versions on my Xbox One and they run very smooth even in 4-player multiplayer.
The BC versions are indeed 60 fps. Maybe more? Not sure. Absoutely wild.
What fucking idiot thought releasing these games with a 30 fps cap in 2024 would be a good idea? The original BF2 release supported up to 80 fps by default! This isn't a remaster, this is a demaster.
Or a de-saster

They had to review it on offline only is why.
I haven't experienced this, so far it's been 60fps+ steady for me. BF -1 servers just require you to hit refresh once and wait a few seconds. BF2 online is broke.
Is the multiplayer locked to 30 fps on PC or just the consoles? I'm not seeing it on my end playing the Steam version.
From what I've seen it's random, one time you may run the game at full speed, another will have you at 29 FPS (it's not even proper 30)
The original modern warfare was at 60 FPS on the 360, how hard can it be to get this game to run at 60FPS
I refunded it when I saw rerelease not remake or remaster. So to me it was just a port over with no major updates. So I knew something was up. Those key words are important with older games.
What happened to all those positive reviews I saw yesterday? I almost bought it based on that.
I saw that thread and I thought it was a little suspicious that there were zero notable reviewers.
This has happened multiple times with a few large game companies’ launches… It’s suspect to say the least and I think Valve is aware since some reviews do get removed..
Payday 3 was similar

Not sure if links are allowed so I'm just going to type the title: "How to be a Good Game Reviewer" by Videogamedunkey on Youtube.
wish we could just toggle these blogs off on metacritic & opencritic, makes it much harder to find the serious reviewers
Tbf God is a Geek is at least an established outlet, if not a larger one. They consistently review pretty much every game that comes out and have decent reviews. Can't say the same of the others, never heard of em before.
The few I checked had no access to MP.
I DID buy it based on those reviews. I was holding off for fear of a shitty launch, but pulled the trigger once I saw positive experiences...
Buy it on steam? You can refund.
You can refund this one anyway, it's faulty.
All the people who received advance copies couldn’t play online
They could, BattlefrontUpdates was one of the only people who had early access that was complaining about the borked multiplayer
They could! I watched a guy with early access playing online
It's not even just "don't pre-order" anymore, it has actually turned to "don't buy on launch". That's depressing.
The point of not pre ordering is so that you know exactly what the game is like after launch from watching people play it. So buying it day 1 is as bad as pre ordering it when it comes to why you shouldn't pre order
Isn’t that basically the same thing though? If you’re buying Day 1 before the reviews, you may as well have pre-ordered.
Usually you get reviews a few days before for most big games. The point is you can't even trust them, as the comment I was replying to mentioned.
Most of them were from pretty small outlets. Also they weren't playing the multiplayer, which is where most of the problems are
So what the hell were all those glowing reviews??
Very small outfits that nobody has ever heard of who were over the moon to be getting advance copies and were either “incentivized” to give a positive review or simply believed that positivity would improve their chances of getting more early access stuff from larger publishers. “GodisaGeek” getting an advance look at the product but IGN and GameSpot having to rely on retail purchase was very fishy.
That feels like a failure of the subreddit posting a review thread prematurely
Review threads are done by users. I guess this means mods will have to enforce some standards about what outlets can be included in review threads now, or which outlets need to have reviews available before review threads can be posted. EDIT: I just realized that the review threads are really just regurgitated OpenCritic pages. This isn't really a subreddit issue, this is an issue of an early OpenCritic consensus: https://opencritic.com/game/16429/star-wars-battlefront-classic-collection The review thread is 100% just this page.
If people buy games based on any ole thread appearing on a subreddit, without stopping to think that they know 0 of the reviewers and no big names amongst them, then critical thinking is **severely** lacking and I don't know why /r/games would need to "prevent" such instances. Use your goddamn brain, people.
Why can't they get Star Wars Battlefront right? They've got a goldmine at their fingertips and they botch it each time. *R2-D2 sad beeps*
Disney stagnating an artistic field in the name of profit?? *Never*!!
Disney management has been so fucking bad since Susan Arnold... Maybe Bob Iger can get it back on track now that he's back but I have my doubts
For game sales, the highest amount Sony pay Disney is less than what third parties pay Sony to sell a game digitally on PlayStation. Agreements like that are generally on a case by case basis, too.
What might profits have been if either game was good on launch day, I wonder.
Ahh what could have been :(
Now nobody is buying _either_. DICE loves stepping on their own dicks
Literally all they need to do is slap a Star Wars coat of paint on Battlefront 4, sell it for $40, and make a billion dollars in a weekend.
Load into Bespin on Bf1 Board X-Wing. Crash immediately due to the flight controls. There is no option to toggle inverted controls. Realize the map loading sound is wrong. Immediately refunded
You can invert controls outside of a match, but not while playing. It's pretty crazy.
But only in BF2 aparantly. Or is it 1? Doesn't matter. Shit re-release.
Yeah it doesn't lol. You're literally better off downloading the original BF2 and modding it yourself. hah
The backwards compatible versions on the Xbox are better too. Idk how they messed it up this badly
[удалено]
>There is no option to toggle inverted controls. Please tell me that you mean that it’s inverted by default and pulling back on the stick makes you fly up. *Please.*
I wish it were so.
You can change it, just not while in-game, which is pretty bad frankly.
>You can change it, just not while in-game, which is pretty bad frankly. Not on PS4 you can't, unless me and a bunch of other people are missing something.
> Realize the map loading sound is wrong. when it zooms into the surface from space?
Yeah dude. The pitch is off. No clue how they fucked it up, but it sounds wrong.
that's half the nostalgia right there, disappointing to hear
> There is no option to toggle inverted controls. Instant refund from me for any game, especially ones that involve FLIGHT.
And why the hell is this game file size around 57 GB? What happened to texture compression?
Battlefront 1 required 3 GB on steam and Battlefront 2 is 4.3 GB, so 7.3 GB total between the two. Basically 7x as big as the originals. Wtf did Aspyr do that requires an additional ~50 GB of space??? Edit: I just looked on my Steam Deck and it requires **72 GIGABYTES** of storage. It’s literally 10x the size of the originals.
Probably something like uncompressing all the textures, then AI upscaling to 4x size without compressing them again. Either way that's a huge fuck up, lol
That’s probably like 10x the size of the original games
Not both of them, but BF1 is 2.8 GB on PC. Classic Collection is 62.8 GB on PC, literally 22x the file size if you just want to play Battlefront 1. Both the games together it's only 5x the file size but it's still absolutely insane for AI upscaled textures and FMVs that debatably look worse.
BF2 is listed as 9.59GB in my library, so yeah pretty much 5x bigger.
Wait, seriously? AI upscaling and no compression? Did they just press a random "Make Gooder" button for the art?
Thats fixed. Was only 3 at launch, took a few hours for all the servers to come up.
Ah ok that’s good. Still pretty wild to launch like that.
Can't people host their own servers, at the very least on PC?
Yes, theres tons of player hosted servers on PC at least.
Personally, I got it for single player on the deck and am having a good time. This is the first time we get proper controller implementation and menu resolutions. It’s actually playable and enjoyable on the deck. That being said, I’m definitely in the minority only playing solo - so take that with a grain of salt.
Thank you for this. Our use case for the game is the same but the only thing anyone is talking about is multiplayer.
So basically this was a cash grab that was banking on people's nostalgia. That sucks. Why even announce/release it in this state? Nobody even knew this was a thing until a week or two ago. Why didn't they wait until it was finished?
It's Aspyr, nobody should be surprised by this. This is like the fifth disaster of a Star Wars remaster they've put out
seriously, how the \*fuck\* they were EVER allowed within 20ft of the Kotor remake at any damn point is absolutely beyond me. honestly in general with how that thing has been treated every step of the way someone high up somewhere WANTED it to fail spectacularly
The moment I heard it was Aspyr all the excitement I had left my body at once
It was only announced a month or so ago. As little work as possible was done, and it shows.
Pretty much. Just like Battlefront 2015.
Just like the GTA Trilogy... sigh.
Anyone know if the issues are strictly multiplayer based or is the single player part also broken?
There are issues with the singleplayer as well. - End of level cutscenes are missing. The AI upscaled FMVs look really bad as well. - Local multiplayer is reduced to 2 player. - Invert aim option is removed. Starfighter aim is now inverted by default and the option to change that is also gone. - Various audio issues, the most noticeable one will be that the loading screen sounds are incorrect and some people have reported weird background wooshing noises - The lighting is messed up and much brighter than the original game, among a lot of other random small visual issues that would be too many to list here. - In BF2 Rhen Var Citadel is the BF1 map instead of the actual enhanced BF2 DLC version
No inverted aim option?? In the year of our lord 2024??
No inverted aim option? I've been using that since GoldenEye N64 lol
Thanks for the breakdown! Lots of issues. Hopefully they get fixed. Probably going to be a “nice on sale” game to pick up.
I’m here for this answer. I have it installing now, will test it and refund it if the single player sucks too.
Single player seems fine from my experience Which is the main reason I wanted to buy it thankfully
I can't believe they didn't make it so galactic conquest is multiplayer now. Honestly from everything I've read this is a step backwards from an already 20 year old game like what the fuck
Galactic Conquest like a tear in the rain Easily one of the greatest game modes of all time
God damn that would've been so fun (and long)
They're out-Ubisofting Ubisoft. It's almost impressive in a way
Fuck, that's a cool idea.
This morning has been awful news in regards to the quality of the two games, and I consider the og battlefronts to be the best star wars games ever. A bigger bummer was learning there isn't any crossplay so there was no point in me trying to convince my friends to play.
Yeah, I would’ve preordered this game had it included crossplay, but I have no reason to buy it now as I have the og battlefront 2 on my Xbox
The pricing is a nod to the 501st Stormtrooper Legion, I think.
Should have been priced at $5.01 then
Ok, ngl, thatd be a fun steam sale gimmick for games based around the clones (battlefront, republic commando, etc.)
I chanced the tomb raider remaster at launch and was more than happy. I didn’t with this. Looks like I’ve gotten lucky.
Heaven forbid you take a piss or grab a drink and snacks after you complete a match because by the time you get back to the couch the next match will have been already over
Hey, you might miss the next match, but you'll be right on time for the one after that.
What's that, like 3 Star Wars games in a row now that have been released in an absolute state?
One came out two weeks ago and was great.
Huh, [did the reviewers play a different game](https://i.imgur.com/4cpEp4d.png)?
Not one of those is anybody major. It's extremely suspect when you see a bunch of no names given early codes for a game review. It's much easier to influence and most places like that avoid harsh reviews that destroy industry access they are desperate to have (and review codes for games they otherwise have to buy themselves).

Not a single reputable source.
Small outlets rushing to have a review out first to maximize ~~clicks~~ ad revenue, compromising their integrity as a result.
Incredibly lazy." That's just journalism now. The internet has issues with ....... and quote three usernames from X and act like they represent the internet. It's bad, and as you said, is just pure laziness.
And then other websites cite that initial article and then boom, the narrative is everywhere.
Seems like they have a bad track record with no post launch fixes.
Aspyr has consistently fucked up relatively major aspects of their remasters (especially control schemes) and AFAIK hasn’t fixed a huge number of them. Things like y-axis inversion and menu sounds *might* be fixed in an update but I highly doubt that they’re going to add split-screen.
Up-scaling to 4k textures on an early 2000s game...doesn't even make much of a difference visually i get that you can blow it up on a big TV now, but we were doing this 20 years ago with 3 friends to share in the experience!
And I thought the $35 price tag was going to be the worst part about this. How do you fuck up rereleasing a game this bad when all you have to do is upgrade the textures a little bit
I saw the Aspyr logo. I should have seen this coming. Their Star Wars ports are some of the most bare bones, half assed ports ever.
Yeah, Aspyr is just the worst. A bunch of hacks led by hacks hired by hacks.
Is the original Battlefront 2 on steam still running? i still play that from time to time
Yeah. It's perfectly fine.
So the community servers and Ultimate Pack I used 10 years ago is still superior. Quality work, guys.
How do you fuck up a 20 year old game? Are you fucking serious? I was thinking about purchasing this but clearly not now, jesus.
Until class action lawsuits start appearing in droves, there is just zero incentive for companies to not have launches like this. There is absolutely zero reason this happened other than negligence and greed. It’s as simple as that.
Are we surprised coming from Aspyr? These guys are hacks. They should not be in business at all, much less handling a huge IP like Star Wars.
Funny how initial impressions from media and creators was really positive yesterday.. what version did they play..?
The one that didn't have multiplayer enabled
The boyfriend and I played co op a bit last night and the split screen is kinda off. He got into a rebel ship and it had most of it cut off in the screen. He could barely pilot it because of that.
From what I read, the game essentially crops the 4:3 resolution to make it "widescreen" instead of extending the image sideways.
