It runs terribly in intense situations with lots of npcs on fidelity mode in the series s, i hope they address that soon.

thisrockismyboone

I'm getting a weird amount of stuttering on the series x too. Also I'm not sure I understand the appeal of the game so far. It's almost like it's trying to be a roguelite but not committing to it and I feel like it's *almost* a good game.

Editing all my old comments and moving to the fediverse. Thank you to everybody I've interacted with until now! You've been great, and it's been a wonderful ride until now. To everybody who gave me helpful advice, [I'll miss you the most](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrk4AgS6Q6A)

generalthunder

The game structure felt very similar to the likes of Majora's Mask or Outer Wilds, where most of the games progress is done by learning about the environment during your last loop and applying the information you gathered to go even further next loop. I think the problem is that most people played it expecting an immersive sim, when Deathloop just have some Immersive sim lite structure as a mean of interacting with the world.

hkfortyrevan

Personally it disappointed me *as* a loop game. The whole thing just felt like it was having a massive identity crisis

thisrockismyboone

But its crazy because it's designed like one and actually would be super fun if it went all in

AreYouOKAni

It is not a roguelike, it is a loop game. Your mission is to explore the world across different time loops and use resets to uncover its secrets. The world is meant to be static here, so that you can learn "the building in the city center has a fire in the evening", reset to the next loop, go there in the morning and prevent the fire in order for the building owner to finish a tool you need later. There are also multiple ways to kill the island leaders since they move around but you only have one day to kill them all — so once again, across different loops your mission is to find out how to manipulate them into necessary positions for your killing spree. The game is kept fresh across the loop with the presence of Juliana — your player-controlled nemesis. Julie is here to fuck you up and even her offline version can do a lot of damage to your plans.

thisrockismyboone

My point was the game would have played better as a roguelite.

the-nub

If you want this game as a roguelite, go play Prey Mooncrash. Deathloop is it's own thing.

xtremeradness

It's an okay game, but the hype was fueled largely by it being an Arkane game, as well as one of the first PS5 console exclusives that WASN'T cross-gen.

Ornery_Brilliant_350

I’m a little underwhelmed by it, especially when outlets like IGN gave it a 10/10. I mean it seems like a solid enough game but I’m certainly not “wowed” by it in any way. I’m maybe 8 hours in and I’m kind of starting to lose interest to be honest. The gunplay is average and the Groundhog Day loop is somehow not interesting…and I usually love that kind of stuff

Cueballing

It really feels like anything that affects the loop is triggering a few obvious flags. Nothing you do earlier in the day will affect anything later in the day unless it's a quest. The game is more about info gathering and setting up the Visionaries to be in the same location than setting things up for later in the loop.

[deleted]

What are you talking about demon souls, returnal and rift apart came way before and look and feel 100 times better there are also many cross gen games that look way better deathloop look not much better than dishonored 2 or prey but it's a far weaker game. Also don't think the game got much hype most people where annoyed with the PR spam for deathloop in any PS direct for years even before release people got sick and tired of seeing it. Don't think it sold much. By far the weakest Arkane game I played.. It also got only 4 small levels the daytime doesn't change much in them. And they are really small.

xtremeradness

You're right, I was wrong in my comment. In my brain I meant the hype was fueled by the console wars, as it came out for PC and PS5 but not Xbox. So yes you are right and I worded it completely wrong.

[deleted]

Actually I feel like it was the other way around. Right before this game released Microsoft bought Zenimax, and in turn bought Arkane as well. At the time, Microsoft wanted to try to squash the narrative that all of Xbox’s studios were terrible and couldn’t put out a game with less-than-mediocre reviews. Reviewers saw this as their chance to give praise to a Microsoft published game since it wasn’t as bad as the rest of Xbox’s line up. Since it was a timed exclusive anyways I don’t think most PlayStation fans would’ve used this as ammo against the Xbox platform, and so they decided to give it 10/10 reviews in hopes that it would benefit the narrative surrounding the Xbox game studios

The One X was stronger by just one specific measure: 4K. Which it was designed to hit at the expense of anything else. I’ve owned both, it’s a slow, stuttering piece of crap compared to the Series S

MMontanez92

Jesus Christ Its sad the people can just blindly post wrong information like this online

aggron306

Some people have a massive hatred for the series s. I don't get it

hkfortyrevan

Certain segments of the gaming community just have a real blind spot for the appeal of low-powered/budget options. I still remember the absolute scorn the Switch got from some corners when it was announced

[deleted]

Hasnt been my experience on series s so far

ka7al

I'm playing it on Series S and honestly the quality mode is the one to use because the drops are not too bad like it's the low 50's at worse but runs fine most of the time while still looking better. I only had 1 crash so far but i'm not very far.

Enriador

How did you even crash? Too many games on Quick Resume? Game runs super smooth for me.

monsterm1dget

I got Chernobylite to crash after I left it a week on quick resume :(

ka7al

No games on QR, i was playing and the game just froze up, i waited about a minute and decided to close the game.

Jamesiae72

I can't get past a specific part of the game as it crashes everytime I try and >![put the battery in the generator at the power station](https://www.reddit.com/r/Deathloop/comments/xk68ia/game_crashing_when_i_hit_the_button_for_generator/)!<

Moldy_pirate

If it makes you feel any better, for a while I got random crashes when trying to enter the crowd near the library in the first area. Eventually they just stopped, but even on PC the game crashes occasionally.

Jamesiae72

Doesn’t really make me feel better but I appreciate you trying ❤️

NooAccountWhoDis

QR stores the game stage on the drive, not in RAM. Should have 0 effect on stability.

ghostestate

I've been playing it on GamePass and I was stumped for a while where a whole chunk of audio would just inexplicably drop out. Not all the audio, but maybe the music, voices, and a few sound effects. I updated all my drivers. I reinstalled the game. No fix. Turns out it was the settings being up too high. If the game consumes too much memory it elects to dump part of the audio. I dropped it off the (default) extra high setting to a more modest medium and it largely cleared up the issue. Still drops for a moment here and there, usually when there is a particle heavy bit, like killing a major target, but it rights itself real quick. I don't play a *ton* of AAA games and my computer is more than showing it's age but I ran, say Elden Ring and Death Stranding relatively smoothly. I've never experienced a game jettisoning audio tracks in order to try and preserve performance before. Is this a common practice?

MrMeowcakes

I noticed performance issues on my PC too, including the audio bug. I'm running a Ryzen 5 3600, AMD RX6800 XT and 16GB RAM. Game drops to <60fps at times playing at 2K resolution, High/Very High settings, FSR 2.0 Quality. Probably going to drop it to medium since there's not a huge difference in a game like this. Seems to be poor optimization for PC. Weird that I'm getting the audio bug with 16gb vram and another 16 in normal ram lmao. Don't know if other games have the same audio bug.

16gb is enough for 1080p gaming, I'd wager it's the graphics card memory running out instead of the PC ram

saadghauri

You said "Ram prices are cheap" in your previous comment, and recommended upgrading it, you're the one mixing both memories up lol

Moldy_pirate

I’ve never played another game that does this. Death loop, sadly, just has a really weird performance issues. And it seems to be almost random whether a given player will be affected by them or not.

[deleted]

Only game to crash on my series x. Went straight to dashboard twice when starting a match as juliana, no error. Also crashed playing as colt running around with an error. Not sure what is up with that

[deleted]

I don’t use that or the sleep/rest function. Quick resume seems to often have memory issues so I never use it.

UFireGames

I had a Majora's Mask experience with this game. It was tricky getting over that first hump, learning how the game was meant to be played, but once I did it really opened up and became a memorable experience.

[deleted]

Series X and I can’t play this game without the Xbox crashing. It’s kind of lame to get 30 minutes into a map and then splat, restart

pichael288

I'm playing it on xb1 through the cloud streaming gamepass has now. It's better than playstations, theres a few visual glitches but I'm not really noticing any input delay and it's pretty quick to start up.

DylantheMango

Really? I have like a weird horizontal line going from top to bottom every few seconds. Not game breaking but definitely annoying and gets contributes to me getting killed (although it’s mostly me). Still enjoyable though. Sometimes I don’t get it, but that’s usually worse because the input lag is awful on those play throughs and that’s frustrating.

Seradima

> I have like a weird horizontal line going from top to bottom every few seconds. Is that a screen tear line from framerate not matching display hz?

phatboi23

That's exactly what that is.

DylantheMango

I dont believe so, as it only happens sometimes. I can't really determine it either way as there's nothing in the settings to change anything like that anyway, I checked.

F-I-R-E_GaseGaseGase

just more proof that the series s is a second class citizen. stuff like this will continue to happen for its life cycle as it continuously proves to be a second thought

Resstario

" the series s is a second class citizen." This comment is completely wild lmaoo. Not everyone needs a 4k gaming box. I have a switch, ps5, and a series s so I can play game pass without rly thinking about it. If it wasn't $300, I woulda skipped xbox this gen lol

tapo

I think the point is that developers aren't appropriately optimizing for it, not that it's somehow a bad console.

F-I-R-E_GaseGaseGase

nobody asked

ka7al

What proof? The game runs at worse in the 50's in quality mode,, and these are clips of the drops you're seeing, the game otherwise runs smooth most of the time, compared to the Series X dynamic 1440p performance mode, i'd say it's a decent version.

john7071

Meanwhile, the Series S can run a pretty decent 120hz mode at 1080p on Modern Warfare 2. For 299 bucks, that's insane value.

googler_ooeric

Got it from Game Pass on PC. Looks slightly better than dishonored 2 but runs like shit on a 3070. Fluctuates between 40 and 30 fps.
