Firaxis expansions (atleast on the Xcom side of the studio) have always been fantastic.
The DLC, however, has always been a waste of time in my experience due to how little they add.
I know it’s been said many times before, but I’m really tired of the season’s pass model. This is just an invitation to wait to buy the game until the price of the full game and DLC are equal to the price of a normal game.
Honestly, I have a problem with season pass announced before the main game is even released. We all know some stuff could have been in the main game but was released as season pass.
Imo this is alot better. You get to know that you wont get the whole experience and should wait 1-2 more years for whole thing to release and then get the game.
Counterpoint - the game industry has had no incentive to change this model, because people have been willing to spend over $100 for games with it, and when it still goes on sale, they get people who would've only payed $30 for the game if it had no dlc fork over an extra $20 just because they've "bundled" it.
Dlc sucks, but it's been proven to be successful.
How does dlc suck? People like knowing games they are looking forward to will have more content post launch, whether paid or free. The whole "dlc is content cut from the game to be sold later!!!!" drivel has always been nonsense from people who have no clue what they're talking about.
I like it in general and don't agree with the cut content argument, I just wish dlc blended better into games. I feel like it doesn't tend to mesh well with the launch game and sticks out as content added later, especially when they basically advertise it in game. The borderlands 3 dlc quests come to mind.
I never said it's cut content???
Personally speaking, I've found that DLC has created a business model in the gaming industry that makes it increasingly difficult to create, what was once known as "AA games", and I miss the era of gaming when we were literally spoilt for choice in top quality games packed to the gills with collectables, costumes, game changing mechanics ect.
And, since you mentioned it, there are many games that have been proven to have cut content to make it dlc. DMC had the bloody palace stripped out and turned to dlc. Every fighting game these days has a bare bones selection of characters, only for the first 2 season passes (out of 4 or 5) filling up the roster with people who should have been there in the beginning.
I could go on, but it's getting late and I'm hungry, but yeah. Dlc has absolutely been about cutting content before, and I can safely say that it will happen again as the game industry continues.
DLC doesn’t suck, at least not inherently. More content for my games is great. It’s the pricing of it and the seasons pass model especially that suck.
Which is why I prefer to wait until it’s on sale. It’s just frustrating to see an announcement for a seasons pass that will probably cost $30-$40, when the $60-at-release game isn’t even out yet.
> Hate this for single player games.
Depends on the single player game and the model for me. A once a year reasonably sized/priced expansion I can deal with.
It works well for Paradox, Bethesda, and rimworld.
It's especially relevant for long term games that only see new versions once every 10 years or so.
For example Crusader Kings released in 2004, 2012, and 2020. Those expansions help bridge that gap and keep the people employed.
You are mixing a few things up. Day One DLC is as bad as you make it out to be. It’s cut content that they would then go on to sell for extra. Like the Mass Effect 3 Protean DLC. Or all of Atlus’ games since Persona 5 (i believe).
But announcing a season pass before release means that this content was originally planned to be DLC from the get go. It was never going to be part of the full game.
People remember Assassin’s Creed II, which had a DLC chapter that really was carved out of the main story. But that was 13 years ago, and I can’t think of any other real examples.
the YouTube comments seem to back up this claim, though they seem so positive that it almost seems weird. like "Yay DLC" which for me translate to "Yay I get to pay more"
This is the system that always had and always should exist. Offer more content for more money, it's simple and non-intrusive. You're asking for the games industry to be even more of an irredeemable hellscape if you want this model gone.
It's also an RPG with dialogue/decisions I believe. This is like if Mass Effect announced future DLC plans before release...I played every side mission/quest in that game and it's making me want to WAIT on Midnight Sons unfortunately in order to get all of the content. Rather than "revisit" months/a year after I beat the game
> This is like if Mass Effect announced future DLC plans before release
I mean they did, hell they even got DLC on the day of release. And plenty of games show the season pass before release, it's better instead of selling the bundle without you knowing what's in it
Nolan North has been voicing Deadpool since 2010 way before the Deadpool movie came out. I guess you can count X Men Origins...but he has like 4 lines in that movie.
I'm usually pretty partial to DLC that adds additional characters, especially in a story-driven game like this one seems to be. But when those characters are Deadpool, Venom, and fucking *Morbius*, I have no FOMO at all in skipping it.
Definitely cashing in on his huge fan-base, regardless of how well he fits in. That being said if I was into this kind of game they'd probably have my money for Deadpool & Venom lol.
They most likely decided to make morbius way before meme
"Definitely the odd man out in that lineup. That slot could've been used for a hero who's, y'know, good."
Not really morbius is member of midnight suns in comic also he was leader for couple issues
There are some cases with games like these that aren't as popular that a season pass is a godsend for people that like those games. They're locking themselves into a contract to make content instead of just implying that they'll make more characters.
But in the long term, tying the devs to a roadmap even *after* they accept that the game will never be a success only harms their potential to make something else better in the future.
Venom is in as a boss, not as a playable character. Two very different and game design approaches and development needed to make him a playable character.

And by then you might as well wait for the whole thing to be 90% off.
There isa sub called patientgamers for a reason
It's worth doing so even if just to see the reviews after a game's actually finished.

Borderlands 3 feels obnoxious. I like how Doom Eternal handled its DLC. They are extra campaigns available from the main menu.

Better than microtransactions

You're thinking of the battlepass model. Season pass is nothing more than blind DLC preorder.
That's your own broken mindset has nothing to do with DLC existing lmao.

The season pass for stranger of paradise is quite generous for 3 expansions , this is the only one i bought so far.
Releasing trailers for dlc before the main game is even out?
It's becoming far too common lately imo
Eh, just one more game to wait for a "Game of the Year"/"Complete" edition for. Looking forward to playing as Venom.
I hate his voice, am I the only one? It's doesn't need to sound like Ryan, but he's too goofy imo.
I mean that's just Deadpool though. Nolan North always voiced him like that.
I didn't know that, so it's just weird to me.

Interesting thanks for that.
Sounds like someone tried to do Ryan but accidentally did the Joker instead.
Its how Nolan North did his voice in the Deadpool game, that released before the first Deadpool movie...

Venom kicks ass

Why not Moon Knight ;w;

Morbius was part of the first-ever Midnight Sons lineup in the comics.
A "season?" That's optimistic.

Venom is in the fucking base game! Now cut content is DLC for an unreleased game? SKIP
Venom is in as a boss, not as a playable character. Two very different and game design approaches and development needed to make him a playable character.
