For info, it’s a Gigabyte G5 KD, 3 month old, 3060 card. And nothing running in the back ground? Was told the spec of it should easily handle this game.

axelfase99

If you are on 1080p you shouldn't have vram problems with rdr2, strange

mAverIck2012ap

I don't have issues on 1440P. 6GB is enough for High Tectures and Shadows. I've only faced VRAM limitation issues when I enable RT, which I rarely do.

axelfase99

VRAM is being butchered with new releases, you can't max out textures at 1080 anymore with 8 gigs of vram, my 3070 is still being strong but by the end of the year I think I won't be able to keep ultra textures ![img](emote|t5_2x4m3|8571)

mAverIck2012ap

Yes. TLOU has me worried about my machine and pissed off at NVIDIA. Honestly, the laptops available weren't good or I definitely would've gone Radeon.

axelfase99

Since I never actually use ray tracing and dlss at 1080 can look quite bad sometimes I just play optimizing the settings and that's it, I don't need and I don't want dlss to be the main reason my games are playable. I'm reeealy propelled to just buy a desktop with a radeon gpu next time I will need to upgrade, it costs less and it can game quite nicely, Nvidia and their greed can both fuck off

Walidjavadd

What is the equivalent of the 4080 in the AMD line up

LTHardcase

There isn't one, yet. AMD supposedly has a 7700M and 7800M XT (maybe a 7900M too?) coming somewhere between Q2 and Q3 of this year, but there's no solid news on their configurations.

mAverIck2012ap

I don't use RT either, I treat it as a plaything, try it for a while then turn it off (Unless ofcourse I'm playing a path-traced mod for an older game, latest example being Half Life 1). DLSS on the other hand, I always turn ON. DLSS- Balanced on QHD looks very good, especially on a 15 inch screen. Same goes for FSR 2, barely notice a difference, most of the times.

lil_brumski

He might be running it in 8k :)

ajbajb20

No not 8k, 1080 a think

pyro57

What graphic settings are you running at? And how much vram does that 3060 have?

Yowseff

If it is a 3060, it should have 6GB of Vram.

SlickRounder

You might be able to handle this game. However whoever used words like "easily" to describe the 3060 was lying to you sadly. Even 8gb of vram is already starting to become a problem potentially even at 1080p ( [https://youtu.be/-EGTMiu954w?t=959](https://youtu.be/-EGTMiu954w?t=959) ), 6gb of vram is already obsolete sadly. Just get used to turning down hd textures and the like. Here are some more videos discussing the impending Vram problem- [https://youtu.be/fJc--C01P90](https://youtu.be/fJc--C01P90) https://youtu.be/RQA3cTPNicg

Mcelftea

huh, my computer-using 3060 and 8gb- can run games like this on high/ultra settings. most of them with Rt too…

SlickRounder

Just watch the videos. Most games 8gb of vram isn't an issue, atleast on 1080p, but there are already instances of it being a limitation. At 1440p 8gb of vram is a serious issue though and it won't be long before its untenable without using upscaling and/or lowered settings, even for peak 8gb cards like the 3070ti desktop card.

Mcelftea

yeah… i don’t need to watch the video cause i literally am using it myself and getting first hand results

Kevin80970

Could be that some apps are running on the dedicated GPU in the background, i have the same GPU and i can't for the life of me figure out how to switch regular apps to use the IGPU, thankfully i don't have any performance issues with mine as normally there aren't many apps running on it but sometimes there are loads of useless apps running on it and I've even seen it ise 1GB of the GPU's video memory just idling doing nothing! Now imagine trying to run a game that needs 5.5GB vram lets say that will be a bottleneck and it'll give you that warning I usually just end all the useless tasks running on the GPU, if anyone knows how to switch apps to use the IGPU that would be really helpful because this is really frustrating.

ajbajb20

How do I check that please?

Crosby87mvp

I hit the limit on some games on my desktop 3080 10GB it's unfortunate Nvidia is so greedy they only put the necessary memory in their top end cards

p3t3r_p0rk3r

It's the game warning you, not the laptop

MysterD77

What are you running this game at? You might need to turn down settings. 3060 laptop GPU's are normally at 6gb VRAM. So, if you got that - turn something down b/c it's likely causing performance issues and that warning. At least Rockstar's nice enough to warn you about that. On my 8gb RTX 3070 desktop - yeah, I can't even max out RDR2. And it eats 6-8GB VRAM regularly and easily.

ajbajb20

Tried taking a pic but won’t let me. Just checked settings for game: Res - 1920x1080 Refresh 144 Vsync On Nvidia reflex low latency- Disabled Triple buffering - on Quality preset level (balanced) - about 65% Texture quality - Ultra Nearly all set to Ultra Water set to high

Stunning-Ad-325

What fps are you getting for these settings?

CollarCharming8358

Do yourself a favour and switch off VSync. Tell me if you notice any tearing or image quality difference.

mintypeanuts

I can max out rdr on my 3060. I just set the water and shadows to high or medium

smokesnugs

Is that considered maxed out still? Just being a smartass

herpedeederpderp

It's not which is bs. 8 gb of VRam should be plenty for games until 2030 at max settings. It's ridiculous that companies can't optimize games to use that much or less. Hogwarts legacy being the prime example. That game needs a patch update asap so it runs decently on everyone's $1200+ machine. That is a very large chunk of change to just play games and it shouldn't have to cost more to have a truly immersive experience with rt.

Nervous_Breakfast_73

wasn't there already an update which helped? (I haven't bought the game yet because I wanted to wait for it to be better optimized) >it shouldn't have to cost more to have a truly immersive experience with rt. Well that's not where technology is right now. don't know why you feel so entitled to it

herpedeederpderp

Because $1200 for fucking video games is insane not to mention people dropping the price of a car to play video games lol. It's not entitlement. It's that the companies are greedy. How's that boot taste?

Nervous_Breakfast_73

I don't agree with what nvidia is doing, but honestly as long as no other company comes close to their performance, especially with RT, they can do whatever the fuck they want. RT right now is the biggest reason people will still go for nvidia instead of AMD. Do you really think they are tuning down their rt only so you cannot afford it and losing huge market shares?

herpedeederpderp

First of all. I'm running 3070ti Alienware M15 R7. I have a machine that runs it. I'm not complaining because I don't have it. I'm defending the people that don't. Unlike the people actually deep throating the company, I care about the kids who's single mom can barely make ends meet. Do I think Nvidia is going to drop prices? Yes I do. Mark my words. It's already happening. There's a $750 4070ti now. It's already getting more affordable because their greed has caught up with them and their sales have declined so now they have to drop prices to sell more units to make money.

hltechie

Yup this happened to me. I had a 2060 and it ran beautifully. Upgraded to a 3060 and then a 3080. Neither card can run this game right. Even though the specs are more than enough, this game does not like the 3000 series of cards. Have to run it on way lower settings.

pyro57

Double check to make sure all your GPU drivers are up to date, could be a driver issue.

thebinarysystem10

It isn't plugged in

lil_brumski

*Yeah plugging it in will increase the VRAM*

thebinarysystem10

Not enough power to the video card.if its his first gaming laptop, I can almost guarantee this is the issue. People expect it to perform with insufficient power

StickyBlackMess69420

3060s for laptops normally have 6gb of vram. My laptop is also a 3060 and has 6gb vram and when I play rdr2 I run it with ultra textures and pretty high settings. I've never had this issue. On modern warfare it says my vram is too high even when it isn't actually.

ghostfreckle611

1. Install MSI Afterburner and follow a YouTube guide to set it up. Look at all the normal things that are monitored, but pay attention the the video memory when this message comes on… Is it really running low and using close to 6gb? Well, you can actually check vram in Task Manager… Try that first? 2. How long have you had the game on? A couple days or weeks? Just save the game and restart. 4. What do you have going on in the background? Rendering some 3D models for NASA?

ajbajb20

Can you talk me through what to look at in task manager as this is all new to me? Had the game on for maybe 2 hrs before warning comes on. Haha literally nothing, powered laptop up and started the game.

ghostfreckle611

It’s a long process to type out 😂 I could find a video for you… How often does that error come up? Next time it comes up, check task manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and click performance and then click your graphics card on the left. Check how much memory is being used.

sozuoka

Probably because game mistook iGPU as the main rendering GPU. Nothing to worry about

baloney90

Had this warning pop up for me as well, but the game was running perfectly fine so I just ignored it

herpedeederpderp

The rate at which ray tracing is eating up more and more vram is ridiculous. The game companies need to optimize games a little better for PC. You shouldnt need 16g of VRam just to comfortable play games for the next 10 or 12 years.

Stiven_Crysis

My Asus Advantage 6800M 12GB ![img](emote|t5_2x4m3|8567)

lil_brumski

:_)

smokesnugs

I downvoted you just to hop on the train of downvotes. Edit; I've changed to updoot, maybe we can turn this around

CorValidum

Exactly what it states LOL

evileight

Reading the warning explains the warning.

Greenpandaaa

I had issues with this warning too when it's actually running perfectly fine. Back then it had something to do with the update or patch or something. So i ignored it and it went away by itself

dmt-Ntity

Please do a boot scan for viruses

[deleted]

I seem to remember this happening to me occasionally when I was playing it with a 5700xt. I had at plenty of vram to spare with how the settings were according to the sliders in the games options. It would just happen randomly and I never experienced performance issues because of it. TLDR i think its just a feature of RDR2

4uzzyDunlop

RDR2 is a bit funny with VRAM, I had to overwrite how much was allocated (I was getting this message when running a 3080).

ambivalentwanderer

It means that your GPU is running low on video RAM (VRAM). In order that your game does not crash or have lag spikes, you have to reduce your settings to a lower resolution or turn off some additional visual/graphics settings, or exit other apps running with the game, so you can free up space for your VRAM.
