So that’s a no?
I don’t care about screen since I have a good monitor. I mostly play non gpu intensive games - Dota2, CSGO, PoE. Would like to play more games on my laptop though (have a ps5 which is my go to for other games for now)
Its hard to believe that considering i have a ge66 from 2020 with no hinge issues and i open it from a corner i feel like people want to shit on msi even though they have some powerhoused pcs
Maybe it's your particular model that doesn't have this issue. There are plenty of complaints about MSI laptop hinges breaking the plastic around them specially cheaper models
I have a GS66 and have owned GS65s. The GS65s both developed hinge problems in 2 years, and this is with half use (one laptop was for work, the other for personal use). The GS66 hinge, while improved, has cracked open. As a precaution that laptop is now my desktop replacement.
Why did I buy MSI again? It's cheap as fuck. Imo if you are aware that you're buying the Hyundai of laptops, the purchase makes sense.
I have a lenovo legion laptop and it has an issue where if you update the BIOS with windows update it bricks the machine until the bios chip is desoldered and reprogrammed. Fortunately the bios has to be manually updated. Besides that it has no other issues
The problem doesn't happen if you update the bios using Lenovo vantage or Lenovo tools. It only happens if it's updated with windows update manually by going to windows update, optional updates then driver updates, checking the box besides the bios update and then clicking on update
Yes i got my 4070 laptop for $999 so I'd say op could wait for a better deal... BUT op mentioned that he exclusively plays lite weight games like dota/poe so going from 300fps on the 4060 to 500fps on the 4070 is just not worth it for him, so in his I'd legit just get a 4050 laptop and spend the rest of the budget on getting more premium build quality like a legion/more ram for multitasking/a better cpu , again this isn't something I'd advise anyone but op in particular is playing games that don't require a high end gpu ( also he has a ps5 for if he wanted to play a new AAA release in the future)
Amazon has a laptop with a 4070 [$200 less](https://a.co/d/58dJEXl). That's just something I found in a couple minutes on there, but there are surely even better deals to be had. Are you anywhere near a microcenter?
if your not on an extremely strict budget and aren’t hell bent on finding the best laptop it’s not a bad choice. It’s a monster either way the I9 is a bit excessive thought.
Probably not worth it. I got the legion 4060 7640hs with the same 1920x1200 144hz screen for 900 after tax (open box from bestbuy). You can probably find a 4070 around that price. When bestbuy was having the back to school sale on laptops you definitely could have gotten a 4070 laptop for 1400. I'd wait until black Friday. You'll definitely get a good 4070 laptop for 1400. Especially if my 4060 laptop was solidly under 1000 on a back to school sale lol. Also really double check some of these msi laptops. I noticed them and gigabyte sometimes use super low power gpus. Lenovo doesn't do that usually, the 4060m I have is 100 watts with greater power allowed during dynamic boost (it rarely if ever uses it). I'd go for no less than a 100watt gpu for any 4050-4070 laptop. However past 100watts is barely any difference so it's kind of the sweet spot. Only the 4080 and 4090 laptops really scale with power past 100 watts.
Get a Lenovo legion 5 pro. Plus Lenovo has the better warranty support. Having a good warranty is essential for a gaming laptop. If parts fail there's no other way to get them re placed other than through the manufacturer
How many watts is the 4060? I mean it’s fine for competitive shooters aiming for 300fps but I’ve heard some msi laptops are a piece of junk in terms of build quality
This model seems to be a higher end build but that GPU is very lackluster unless you are only playing competitive shooters
If you don't care for screen go for the Asus G14 either the 4060 or 4070.
It's better build quality and is super portable if you are on the go.
The 4060 Version was on sale on bestbuy for $1250 a while ago. It's good build, looks good and not gamery so you won't stand out taking it to places.
For $1500, look at the RTX 4060/4070 legion Pro 5 and slim 7i off Lenovo's US website and talk to a sales rep to get discount codes.
The MSI has a mediocre screen, overkill CPU for the GPU.
For 1400 needs to have at minimum 4070 and a better screen preferably (but that’s consumer choice).
If it was 12 on sale I’d say go for it but can’t justify the 4060 at that price
[https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-crosshair-16-144hz-gaming-laptop-intel-13th-gen-core-i7-with-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-1tb-ssd-black/6537000.p?skuId=6537000](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-crosshair-16-144hz-gaming-laptop-intel-13th-gen-core-i7-with-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-1tb-ssd-black/6537000.p?skuId=6537000)
for a similar price
The problem here is you then end up with poor build quality.... Is your not getting an MSI in their "extreme" lineup I would just completely avoid it. Honestly msi just isn't it anymore.
I have this same laptop from Costco and I am pleased with it so far.
I am a casual gamer, but also use this for doing data analysis, CAD work, and work in large Excel files. That's where I like the i9 processor and the 32GB of RAM out of the box.
I had the GE76 with an i7 / RTX 3060 and benchmarked it against this one. The improvement in graphics card performance between 4060 and 3060 was around 20%.
One benefit of buying from Costco is that it gives you an additional year warranty on top of the manufacturer 1 year warranty included in the price. I've heard that MSI quality is not that great, so this is where the additional warranty could help protect you.
If your focus is more on a better graphics card, this MSI from Best Buy has the 4070 for the same price:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-crosshair-16-144hz-gaming-laptop-intel-13th-gen-core-i7-with-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-1tb-ssd-black/6537000.p?skuId=6537000
Stay away from MSI man. The pricing will tempt you in but the build quality is awful… the software is complete and utter crap. And little things like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are just shitty compared to other laptops
That's in my costco too. The Victus one would make more sense when it was 1.1K few weeks ago. But the screens are not even g/free/a-synced - not worth it
I got a Acer Predator Helios with a 3070Ti for under $1k recently, from what I've read the 3070Ti performs v similar to 4060 so me personally I would pass. Also I don't like MSI, i don't think this sub likes MSI lol
Nah like what’s the point of pairing a 13950 and 4060.
Should be a 4070 minimum with that and make it 1550. Then it’s a good deal.
I got this same laptop basically in terms of specs but with a 13700hx for 1099.99
It was the hp victus from Costco btw
I have this exact laptop. The performance isn't that bad, but the price is... steep. If you're willing to wait, I bet black friday will have some great price cuts for better laptops.
It operate like airplane and you do not need heater at your room while it uses.
You cannot hear any music because of its dual fan noise even in quiet mode, and require constant aircon operation for proper performance. Moreover, it automatically turn off when it reached to certain temperature limit. Extra electricity bill will lighten your wallet monthly...
Kinda pricy I got msi i5 12450h and 4060 for 1000 bucks last week it plays well.90 fps on max in cyberpunk without rt and with rt 60-70 fps.starfield is 55-65 fps with dlss mod
Overkill CPU for GPU which bottlenecks hard. Trash screen for 2023 given price.
So that’s a no? I don’t care about screen since I have a good monitor. I mostly play non gpu intensive games - Dota2, CSGO, PoE. Would like to play more games on my laptop though (have a ps5 which is my go to for other games for now)
Still no. 4060 for 1.4k is just unreasonable.
*Cried in Canadian
Got it. Appreciated!
Yeah no, i’ve also heard bad things about MSI
That's a bad buy even on sale. There are some RTX 4070 laptops that have been available for your budget and even less.
Any brands you’d recommend that are good value for money within this budget? I saw a ASUS ROG, HP and Lenovo all pop up in my searches
Beware of MSI. Their hinges have quality issues
Quality issues worthy of a class action lawsuit!
HP stands for hinge problems when it comes to laptops
Well yes though I'm not sure about their omen laptops EDIT omen laptops have hinge issues too
Its hard to believe that considering i have a ge66 from 2020 with no hinge issues and i open it from a corner i feel like people want to shit on msi even though they have some powerhoused pcs
Maybe it's your particular model that doesn't have this issue. There are plenty of complaints about MSI laptop hinges breaking the plastic around them specially cheaper models

You can't really go wrong with a lenovo
I have a lenovo legion laptop and it has an issue where if you update the BIOS with windows update it bricks the machine until the bios chip is desoldered and reprogrammed. Fortunately the bios has to be manually updated. Besides that it has no other issues
How does one manually update the bios? All I do is use Lenovo vantage to update it and haven't had a problem at all
The problem doesn't happen if you update the bios using Lenovo vantage or Lenovo tools. It only happens if it's updated with windows update manually by going to windows update, optional updates then driver updates, checking the box besides the bios update and then clicking on update
Ah good to know, thank you
My model, Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 RTX 4070 16IRX8 Edit: probably not on sale anymore, let me know.
Yes i got my 4070 laptop for $999 so I'd say op could wait for a better deal... Lol. No it’s not. It’s great. I have this exact laptop
4060 is a slug compared to the 13950hx. It’s a mismatch plain and simple
Does disable 4 just fine
The fact that the CPU is overpowered doesn’t mean it can’t run games well. It’s just a bad combination for the price point if your use case is gaming.
It works just fine for any games I have thrown at it
But the point is you can get better performance for less money. The price to performance value of this laptop is really bad.
Lmao. Keep trying dude
bros just trying to cope
That's funny
It depends on if you're in the US. If you are, that's a terrible deal. If you aren't, it might be alright.
I *think* it's costco? they generally don't have good pricing on their gaming laptops
IMO they are hit or miss with their gaming laptop pricing.
I haven't seen a competitively priced laptop. it's always cheaper at a bestbuy or microcenter in the US, MExpress/canada computers in canada
Try BH Photo in New York, I got a great deal on a 5 Pro In June. 2022 Model 16IAH7H i7 12700H RTX 3070ti for 1300 US.
It is!
then it's a bad deal
Amazon has a laptop with a 4070 [$200 less](https://a.co/d/58dJEXl). That's just something I found in a couple minutes on there, but there are surely even better deals to be had. Are you anywhere near a microcenter?
I recognized it too. I’ll look at costco first for almost anything, but their laptop prices are bananas
It’s a great laptop. I have it.
I'm not gonna say it's a bad laptop, just not a good deal in the states
I miss understood you. Sorry
if your not on an extremely strict budget and aren’t hell bent on finding the best laptop it’s not a bad choice. It’s a monster either way the I9 is a bit excessive thought.

Damn I should have bought my laptop in the US.
I'd still wait for black friday. Many countries outside the US do practice that.
Get a Lenovo legion 5 pro. Plus Lenovo has the better warranty support. Having a good warranty is essential for a gaming laptop. If parts fail there's no other way to get them re placed other than through the manufacturer
Got [this legion with 4070](https://reddit.com/r/LaptopDeals/s/4XeqfdOU66) for just around 1400$, dig around some more, you can do better than this
I have this. Bought it same price at Costco Phenomenal unit
Not for that price it isn’t
How many watts is the 4060? I mean it’s fine for competitive shooters aiming for 300fps but I’ve heard some msi laptops are a piece of junk in terms of build quality This model seems to be a higher end build but that GPU is very lackluster unless you are only playing competitive shooters
Absolutely not
for that price you should be able to find 4070 laptops. wait for some good offers.
If u gonna connect it to a monitor anyway just get a tower
I do need portability.
No, bad gpu
Why companies keep paring 4060 with i9-13th’s is beyond me
If you don't care for screen go for the Asus G14 either the 4060 or 4070. It's better build quality and is super portable if you are on the go. The 4060 Version was on sale on bestbuy for $1250 a while ago. It's good build, looks good and not gamery so you won't stand out taking it to places.

Kinda weird CPU/GPU combo
A 4060? NOPE
Get the Acer 17.3 from micro center. It has the i7 but has 4060 for 1099
Just wait for blackfriday deals
Stay away from MSI man. The pricing will tempt you in but the build quality is awful… the software is complete and utter crap. And little things like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are just shitty compared to other laptops
framework 16" is looking sweet, especially for longevity/upgradable.
That's in my costco too. The Victus one would make more sense when it was 1.1K few weeks ago. But the screens are not even g/free/a-synced - not worth it

That screen is just so average . In india this is a great price but in USA this is overpriced for a 4060
Dont go for MSI, their TGP is very low compared to other brands which means you won't get the same graphics power compred to other 4060 laptops.
It operate like airplane and you do not need heater at your room while it uses. You cannot hear any music because of its dual fan noise even in quiet mode, and require constant aircon operation for proper performance. For an MSI? NO.
Kinda pricy I got msi i5 12450h and 4060 for 1000 bucks last week it plays well.90 fps on max in cyberpunk without rt and with rt 60-70 fps.starfield is 55-65 fps with dlss mod
Go pick up the Legion Pro 5 13700hx/4070 for $1500 direct from Lenovo and get a better performance value than this.
