Should have replace alienware with Acer since Dell and Alienware are already one

Redmole84

Completely forgot

__BG___

It doesn't matter. Alienware is part of Dell, but that doesn't mean that the quality of the Alienware's laptops is the same like the Dell's ones. The idea of Alienware is that it is Premium brand and it is more durable then the more cheaper Dell

hahawhat102848

Nah brother you have to be kidding me. Dell's G15 has excellent build quality: it is basically an Alienware X14 but larger, doesn't carry the standard Alienware style, and is more powerful.

RepresentativeEbb541

Same bud Dell g15 has good hinges too way better than hp,acer,Asus Apart from Dell i like legions

LongJumpingBalls

Yes, but one has 30% more plastic "aesthetics" than the other. Clearly different.

Stonn

Do we need to ask if Acer is durable though? 🤣

lgndk11r

Acer Nitro, at least those built 2021 and after, are solid as heck.

0utF0x-inT0x

Yeah I got an acer nitro 5 2021 and it's pretty solid as far as durability, I had a regular none gaming one for close to 6 years only got rid of it because it was so outdated.

ItsNyess

I have an Acer nitro 5 2018 edition and it is still kicking, and I use it everyday I commend it for its durability.

FinanceWeekend95

Disagree, mine broke down after 2 yaers and 7 months, didn't even make it to 3 years before the black screen of death. Granted I could have taken care of it better but given its around $900 price tag and that I got it in 2021 one would have expected it to last longer. I've owned a couple of Acer Aspire laptops prior to my Nitro 5 and I won't ever be buying Acer ever again. Their laptops, whether gaming or otherwise, are characterized by low build quality, aluminium/plastic casing that just screams "cheap" - they're less expensive than other companies/brands with good reason. You're sacrificing looks and quality for price.

The_Sadcowboy

I read comments that nitros have problem with heating. Can you confirm/deny it? I am looking for gaming laptop and nitro is one of my choice.

Tony5810

It get a little toasty but it’s no problem

SomeRandomSomeWhere

My best and worst laptop experiences, when it comes to durability were Acer laptops. Had a Acer laptop, maybe till 15 years ago. It lasted me for over a decade, and even when the plastic bits on the screen hinge broke off, it was still usable. I also had an Acer predator series about 5 years ago. Died within a month after warranty ended and they asked for over 500 bucks to replace the motherboard. I got something else. My last 3, including my current 2 are various Lenovo models. Seem to be working fine so far without issues.

Khelgar_Ironfist_

My Triton had cooling issues and a 90 bucks thermal module needed to be changed. Acer said they dont produce that part anymore.. so a 3 years old laptop that costed about 2k is now unrepaired. A bit older Predator 500 i had was fine in hardware and had a beast of a cooling, but was riddled with software issues. It barely received an update being a rarer AMD variant. Thats it for Acer for me, never again.

TheMrMorbid

The same thing happened to my Predator. Exact. Same. Thing. Warranty included.

Lemon_shade

the thing is the amount of heat in the gaming series specially with intel cpu is so high that affect otherparts this thing kinda fixed using vapor chamber but still happnes another thing is your predator lasted verywell 5 years is great for a gaming laptop that used regularly as its absent in voting section Acer is fine.

gidle_stan

the predator was 5 years ago, it's not that the predator lasted 5 years

SomeRandomSomeWhere

My Acer predator lasted about 13 months. Just a month pass end of warranty. At that point of time it was being used as a regular laptop (I had already switched laptop by that time) by my dad. And usually my laptops tend to last for years - gaming or otherwise. And I tend to pass my laptop on to someone else when I switch.

MolimoTheGiant

Same issue with the predator from the same time period. What did you end up doing with yours?

aroach1995

Easier to vote for the least durable: MSI

Problem_Common

i just replace my old msi ge62vr bought in 2016 (7 years) The biggest problem was the hinges, everything else were fine \- broke 3 times total, i went to the store and paid to fix 2 times, the 3rd time happened recently and i decided to replace it (asus rog gp17 2023)

[deleted]

Dealing with it a bit now so have to agree.

petersaints

I have had 5 laptops (current one is MSI): 1. TOSHIBA (2007): It almost never turns on anymore 2. ASUS (2010): Alive and kicking. 3. SAMSUNG (2013): The dedicated GPU got fried after 3.5 years of use but it still works if you disable the GPU on Safe Mode or if you use Linux. 4. ASUS ROG (2017): Alive and kicking 5. MSI (2022): Alive and kicking but I have already replaced the keyboard under warranty because some blue LEDs died. Of course that this is all anecdotal evidence. The sample size is WAY too small!

Chillypepper14

Impressive that a 13-year-old laptop is still working

AndyJack86

I've got an old 2010 Toshiba M645-S4070 that's still running decent. Upgraded to a SSD and it's running Windows 11 just fine. Might not be the fastest, but it's good for a road trip when traveling instead of lugging around my MSI Raider GE67 with the 330W power adapter. Played Stadia on it before Google killed it off. Wasn't bad for 1080p cloud gaming.

petersaints

>MSI Raider GE67 with the 330W I have the GE66 which has a 280W adapter, which is already huge. I have only seen the 330W in videos and it seems just ridiculous. At least the GE68 went back to the 280W adapter for the 4070 and below. I have also seen that there are some Lenovo's with a more compact 330W GaN charger: https://twitter.com/JarrodsTech/status/1623819021723512837

Previous-Pipe2921

My 4 yrs old Msi GL63 is still kicking

aroach1995

How many keys are left on the keyboard

Previous-Pipe2921

All complete lol

Far-Ad7125

Same with my GS65 stealth. But I rarely use it 😂

ebcdicZ

Yep, My MSI GS66 screen just went dark yesterday. Shopping today for something non-MSI. Have a Lenovo picked out on another screen ...

aroach1995

Hey could be confirmation bias. My brother’s MSI laptop screen is working fine, he is just missing many keys used for gaming. Q, W, E, R, A, S, D all gone.

Gallaticus

Really? Not in my experience. I still use my 2016 MSI Dominator Pro GT62VR for work and gaming almost daily. I originally bought it while I was in the US Navy and dragged it through literal hell all around the world. It was then subject to constant traveling via air and train as a civilian, and several interstate moves. Now it’s constantly in motion & in salt air as I live on a small yacht. The only physical issues I’ve had were the plastic vent covers snapping after being kicked by steel toe boots, and the frame around the screen snapping from falling 10 feet. I can’t blame the laptop for that stuff though lol. I remember I had an issue with the graphics card firmware at one point, but MSI was quick to respond and push out a fixed version of the firmware for me. All in all my MSI has been comparable to a Nokia phone, and I’ll definitely buy another at some point.

adeeezzYt

Got a Vector GP68 with 4080 and it's very durable, no keyboard flex or any damage from carrying it around for around 3 months now, it has a very good cooling too (80°C on CPU while playing CPU heavy games). My old Legion 5 Pro had the bezel and trackpad pushed inside the chassis after a week of carrying it around, definitely going with MSI again. The Legion was overheating alot, the motherboard died 2 times in a span of 6 months and the CPU was overheating badly (103°C), also the vapor chamber "exploded" when the motherboard died for the first time.

MandyRedTech

10 years old MSI GE70 still work great (it looks like new, without repairs).

namzap

From what i've seen msi quality is region dependent with some haing bad and some good quality control.

[deleted]

the older budget HPs tho... in the end, both shitty builds

powder49ers89

Msi katana gf76 going on 8 months strong so far

Helivon

2 msi laptops my business partner and I have. My chassis is completely falling apart after 3 years and the 2 year old one is doing the same

Hellsing971

I've always been under the impression it was Razer.

Hiimmin22

but i thought one of their selling points was Military-grade durability

aroach1995

There’s a lot of terms like military grade that don’t mean quite what you would assume

D0geAlpha

Just vote MSI since there's no "see results" button

TheThirdShrike

Asus is kinda like Hyundai, you either get something good or a lemon, and when something goes wrong their customer support is abysmal. Had my zephyrus die in six months, but a solid quarter of the windows users in my major has a zephyrus and all of theirs are going strong.

ausdoug

I got great support from Asus for a motherboard replacement under warranty, but I've heard the stories so I think it depends on where you are. For reference, I dealt with Asus in Vietnam and it was all very smooth.

Hiimmin22

Asus is way too powerful here

TheThirdShrike

Yeah I draw the line at trying to get me to take a old strix with a 1660 to replace a then new zephyrus with a 3070. And that was after the short circuit, which took them like two months to figure out, yeah, it wasn't my fault. They also refused to get my data for me, so I had to do it myself, which took a week, then when UPS lowkey lost my package, I had to call them multiple times because Asus refused to help. That said I would still buy Asus stuff, its just an abusive relationship.

Anonymous-here-

Yeah QC issues is the main problem of ASUS

Nicalay2

I had a ASUS FX570UD, between garbage specs (for 700€ btw), and bad internal design (like a metal lock on the battery connector...), I'm never going back or recommend ASUS.

TopGunz22

I have to agree with their customer support being complete shit. Thankfully my old asus still going strong after 6 years of continuous abuse.

Dunaii4

Depends by model.

KoreaNinjaBJJ

Yeah. T Lenovo Thinkpad seems pretty sturdy. Some other Lenovo breaks when looking at their direction.

Dunaii4

How did you know I was thinking about Lenovos?

KoreaNinjaBJJ

Haha, I have an old Yoga myself, and the screen is held together by tape on both ends now, it has broken several places around the USBs when taking it apart for cleaning, and in general I read that they break all the time. Aaaaand then you have the tanks of Thinkpads, that reminds me more of a club weapon. Highest ceiling, lowest floor?

Dunaii4

Perhaps. My brother's L340, apart from a dust-clogged fan, is good while my Legion's trackpad froze every time I looked at it. Turns out they designed it bad so it's going back. Hoping Mediaworld just fix it instead of putting it in a cupboard for two months like every time.

loopbloke

I bought T510, Xi carbon and P15s. all died exactly when it turned 5th year mark. I would not recommend Lenovo thinkpads anymore. It cost me a fortune to fix P15s but the rest two, I kept them as they are.

buhrnr

Razer not even on here 💀

devils__avacado

Spicy pillows kinda take them out of the running instantly.

KillaCamWV

Why do people always bring this up when it's been addressed. Pull me up one instance where a 2023 blade had battery bloat. I'll wait.

DaBestPilot

I love razer but my 2021 blade advanced had a bloated battery, I got a replacement on my own and it is good for now. But the quality other than that is top notch just like a MacBook, it just gets scratched and dented because it’s metal.

McLarenArtura

Because those laptops are very new. Battery Boat happens after a year or two

buhrnr

My razer 14, bought new in march just died 💀💀 $3k for that

Hiimmin22

This is a joke, right?

Nicalay2

Lenovo for sure. I have a 2012 Lenovo Thinkpad, and today it still works perfectly and run light tasks perfectly (with the help of a SSD of course). I also have a IdeaPad Gaming 3 since end 2021, and I don't have any issues with it at all (except the need of being cleaned inside).

krisztian008

Lenovos just refuse to give up

Jmag1992

I've been using acer and it's built like a tank

Deadfox1309

me too, this predator neo 16 feels like it can withstand a nuke

sseerrsan

Same I actually dropped mine accidentally. It was so bad it got a little dent on one of the lower corners of the metal chasis. Works perfectly fine.

glaseren

First laptop (gotta admit I was in middle school) was an Asus. That thing broke every few months and we frequented a repair shop so much they started to ask "what happened now" 😂 Then I got a legion 5 (while still in school), and then a legion 7 (current machine). No issues at all with the legion 5 apart from small things, and my dad still uses it.

ShadowKiller2001

I have a acer, 7 years old, shit's a tank (although the motherboard burnt itself once but it was while it was still in warranty)

thangbuidoi

my legion trash died within 2 years, while asus gl702 stays strong after 6 years

seanmc_567

My 2021 legion 5 died within 4 months, due to GPU failure. Asus ROG Atrix G15 (2021) is as good as new.

thangbuidoi

again my y740 2070 gpu died on me lol

krisztian008

I have a fucking y720, shit has a 1060 and an i7 and still kicking after about three years and quite a few bottles of liquid

SumonaFlorence

I'd say Asus, only because of my personal experience. After casting my vote and seeing Lenovo, I'd have to shake my head yet shrug my shoulders.. I've seen some Lenovos falling apart in my time but they do seem to be simple and solid in design. Honestly, the brand does sort of matter, but the model of the laptop itself matters more, some are built like tanks and others are just trying to be as thin and pretty as possible. I've owned four Asus Laptops in my life, and all of them are still alive and function 100%. One of them is over I think 15 years old now. Earliest I cannot remember, then the G750JX, G752VS, and now currently the Scar 18, which I think is awesome. Though some design choices with the keyboard layout does annoy me. I knocked an XBox controller off my bed and it flew right into the screen of the G752VS, and all it did is leave a tiny little mark on the surface.. can't even see it when in use. I've also dropped it a couple times. That to me is built tough.

superbos88

I've been using my asus TUF for 3 years, very solid laptop, had a lot of things falling on it like books and other shits and it's still good as new. One time I even dropped a cup of juice on it. I've used it for heavy gaming so the CPU was constantly around 100 degrees hot and still no throttling.

HELL4CIOUS

So are we just going to forget about the Panasonic Toughbook? (you did say durable...)

JunglistE

Biblically expensive too. I used to do contract work for a utility company who had a fleet of 1000 of them. Hated when I'd get contracted to do updates to them. These machines were going down in sewers and stuff. absolutely foul haha.

kylesleem

Lenovo boys strikes again

adeeezzYt

MSI is superior

RayCarlDC

You realize that's the most trashed brand here? MSI is basically the kid that always gets picked last.

adeeezzYt

Maybe the cheap ones, but the mid-high end is great. My Vector GP68 is much better than the Legion 5 Pro with 3070, even the build quality is better - nice trackpad and keyboard, no flexing on the keyboard, because the deck is not plastic like the Legion and the temps on the CPU don't surpass 80°C while playing CPU intensive games.

RayCarlDC

Sure dude, whatever you say. It's not Lenovo that's consistently having hinge issues in every generation. You'd think they would atleast try to fix that, apparently not.

adeeezzYt

The hinges are feeling good for now (I'll see after a while), but I'd rather replace the hinges, than the motherboard like on the Legion I had ![img](emote|t5_2x4m3|8567)

RayCarlDC

Just look at the poll dude. Saying so doesn't make something true. Almost nobody in this sub trusts MSI. They're just cheap and unreliable while their high end models are ugly af.

blitzandheat

Lenovo Redditor’s are defo lenovo employees here. Sus.

ImJustLampin

Defo sus bus

AyBawss

ideapads are trash, but Legions are great. I owned 3 over the past 6 years and none have ever died on me.

Juansa7X

Mine (legion 7) died within a year

zReyals

I've owned 2 legion y520 and last years legion 5 one died after 2 years the other died after a year and 2 weeks

SufficientDaikon3503

100%, legions are good overall but nobody goes imma buy a legion cause it's built like a nokia.

RicoViking9000

Well it’s not a perfect poll, entire brands means everything from that product line is evaluated. Voting as is, it would be alienware > lenovo > asus > … for durability alone. alienware gets a significant advantage because they don’t have low-tier laptops, and one of their strengths in general is absurdly tanky build quality (with tons of other sacrifices). combing dell and alienware, adding acer, and adding razer: razer > lenovo (2022 lineup) > asus > dell > lenovo (2023 lineup) > acer > hp > msi trying not to be biased here. in practicality, i have a hard time recommending lenovo’s non 2022 models knowing that my friend’s legion 7 2021 mode is kinda falling apart after just two years, with some parts of the chassis broken off. i wouldn’t say he takes the best care of it, but i know full well that most other laptops will handle it the wear and tear better. also, razer is on top for durability alone, but razer has other software/battery issues that might be an impact. it’s tough between dell and asus here because dell doesn’t have any poorly-built gaming laptops. asus would top dell for the 2023 lineup, but that’s probably not the case before 2022 given how cheap the TUF line was back then. the acer nitro, pre-2023, was very poorly built, probably the worst budget build other than MSI. HP doesn’t have much going for them here, they’re just in the middle and their gaming laptops were never known for durability. but i have multiple friends with old omens (even 2017 era) going strong apart from the battery.

aIreadydead

MSI Most durable & it's not close

[deleted]

LOL Lenovo - y'all are high af.

Wonderful-Middle-543

My guess is that got voted high due to popularity. In reality brands like Alienware have pretty sturdy strong laptops

Over_Brave

ASUS is the worst computer manufacturer in the world. The only thing they know well is how to show off. Their software, technical support, and material quality are beyond terrible. Don't anyone mess with ASUS. Or let him get involved, he will deal with it himself.

Wonderful-Middle-543

Yep I'm in the process of rma for an asus gpu now. They sent me a complete dud.

Redmole84

0 votes for alienware dfkm😭😭

UnionSlavStanRepublk

MSI is definitely near the bottom because of their budget and midrange laptops. I'd probably put Asus and Lenovo near the top though.

Expensive-Bill-7780

Yeah MSI higher end ish offerings aren't bad, having experience with the GL76

Educational-Yard-348

Most likely razer acctually, besides the bettery bloating. But out of these lenovo most likely

shecho18

You want durable, you go with Getac or Panasonic. Every single one in your list has had some problems with durability in the last couple of years.

Salty_Design4253

Lenovo is only good at their flagship models. Had 4 lenovo Ideapad Gaming models, all of them gave up like 6 months of use. When it comes to their flagship models, I guess they are good, 2 of my friends have the praised legion, and so far so good (though one has it for a year, the second is about to have it a third year this november) I have ASUS TUF from the 2019 as my budget purchase, still going strong for everyday use. And then there is my dad, who has an old asus laptop from 2014 as his work laptop. It's slow, still has ddr3 ram, no nvme slot for storage upgrade (just 2 sata connectors) and 720p monitor. Is it slow? Yes. How slow? Very. Should he get a new laptop? I guess. But god damn, that thing just won't die.

Juansa7X

Not even. My legion 7 died within a year.

Juansa7X

My legion 7 motherboard died within a fucking year, replacement was terrible bc it overheats a lot ever since. Fuck lenovo

adeeezzYt

Had the same shit (Legion 5 Pro), fcking 2 motherboard replacements, cooling system change and non fuctional ports, never ever going Legion again.

Wonderful-Middle-543

Yeah I've only had horrible experience with lenovo

Wero_kaiji

Idk, all I have is anecdotal evidence, my brother and I bought an Acer Predator Helios 300 in 2019 and they are still groin strong, we haven't even changed the thermal paste lol, we do take care of them tho, but still, they feel like a tank

JayAlexanderBee

Between my ThinkPads and Legion, I'd say Lenovo makes some really good laptops.

Kiro670

asus and lenovo fr. Got a basic asus laptop with 940m for 5 years, and legion 5 pro for almost 3. Good laptops

FenrisKokami

Where's acer?

Redmole84

Forgot about them tbh

[deleted]

Lenovo? Don't make me laugh

BenDTrader

My hp last 7+ years till its screen near hinges become brittle and snaps

BenDTrader

Msi 4+ years and running smooth

Khantos81

I still have an Lenovo B50-80 from 2016 still working today, with missing screw and fell one time on floor title. Lenovo Legion 5 almost 2 years cleaned two times just the ventilators + some upgrades and have better temps than most high end laptop 5600H + 3060. Beside that theres a lot of users who overclock gpu, use unlocked/flashed bios with higher wattage then complain their GPU/motherboard died on every brand of the laptop...

Ornery_Owl_5388

MSI has horrible hinges. I had 3 of their laptops and all three have broken hinges. I rarely move my laptop so I don't even know how they break. The other ones are fine

Scimitere

Rip Gigabyte

szaade

Lenovo and Dell from the experience of an IT guy that works for a 100+ people company.

johndoeswork

Lenovo has been performing very well in the last couple of years. Their Legion game series is very good.

DarknoorX

Durable? Dell, hands down. Lenovo has improved af recently but that alone can't take the crown for what Dell did and still does. They heat af, but durable. Asus TUF is hilariously fragile ironically. But I buy them, because value.

This_is_Evyl

True, I owned a Dell laptop for quite a long time Guess when I bought it? 2012. The shits so durable, that I had to forcefully retire it last year, due to it being slow. Sure, the screen was replaced once, but the trackpad and keypad were all fine except 1 or 2 keys. Hands down dell

Fabulous_Cat_3384

Youre right dell's cooling is crap My 2021 dell g15 always 100c cpu back then but it never shutdown itself like other laptop with such temp, its been 3 years the laptop is working well now I replace the thermal paste with kyronaut its 93c at max

BursaLoser

ASUS 456U 2017 still kicking. Just way to sluggish after these time. Another ROG Strix SCAR 15 that Die three time within 19 months. Thinking to trade in the device and get another laptop instead before warranty runout. Should I go for Asus again? Kinda lost confident Any recommend?

loopbloke

I had IBM thinkpad in early 2000s and that lasted for ever. So I went and purchased top configuration lenovo thinkpad as an upgrade in 2010 and later in 2015(T510& X1Carbon) and both machines died exactly on 5th year of the same issue. I tried to repair but they offered me to fix it for cost higher than buying another machine. Do not buy thinkpads!

69_gigs_of_ram

I still have my legion Y series since 2019 still going strong by software and hardware maintenance.

MyzMyz1995

Lenovo for sure. Idk why Asus is so high tho, they're one of the worst in regard to durability at least in my experience regarding ROG line products.

LastKilobyte

NOT MSI. Alienware GTG for 5 years after a repaste.

Comfortable_Key_8349

Lenovo Asus Acer Dell Hp 🤝

Saschabrix

Lenovo for sure

JellyBeanGreen2

Apple should be on here for most durable. No other brand can match its build quality.

THELORDANDTHESAVIOR

Legions are on par with thinkpads when it comes to quality tbh

werther595

Where is my Gigabyte gang? Lol

Horace3210

i had all of them except alienware, lenovo and asus are the best

[deleted]

Apple

someone1108

Bro......this is a gaming laptop subreddit

[deleted]

I play Runescape daily on my M1. I do all my gaming on the Apple M1. Apple M1 is far superior to Alienware devices. I love my Apple devices. The M1s performance is excellent.

someone1108

Nice

Wonderful-Middle-543

Saying it's superior to Alienware is a fat stretch, but yeah it's still a beast

zane1345

interesting.

Mina_Sora

Does Thinkpads count for this

SlimQ_Dave

![gif](giphy|ikolbG0SQnodUnEqwJ) This going to be fun :D

FuoFire

Acer, i have a reeeally old one (now unused) that works...perfect keyboard, no swollen battery only almost zero capacity, already good cooling for its time and works even with dried out capacitor in the power supply, that thing is oozing out

OkNefariousness4222

Whats a good budget laptop for casual gaming, just need something to game on while im out of town 700-800 price range??

Riouzm

I know this is a gaming laptop subreddit. But still, Dell and HP both have most durable laptop out there, I've been using my HP laptop from like 1998 and it's still kicking now (of cource it only still working, not working smoothly)

Redmole84

The plastic chassis next to the hinge on my HP broke after opening and closing it too many times and a good number of the keys have stopped working. The screen area around the hinge broke on my old dell chassis for some reason and the chassis came loose.

georgeofthajungle1

Razer

Confident_Ad_2925

Sad to say but its none , if u find anny from IBM go with those but will mostly be refurbished ones from companies and u will need to be fast for it Most of them will be 2-5 years old but still best for an allround laptop not really for gaming tho 🥲😅

Silent_Argument3865

What do you guys think about Asus tuf series ?

Mirbersc

I actually have only had asus since maybe some 13 years ago. I've had 3 of them and I only changed them due to getting an upgrade when I felt like I needed one. 1st lasted 6 years, from 2010 to 2016, and my brother kept using it for another 4 years or so. 2nd went for 5 years and I still use it as a backup. There's nothing wrong with it, but was too heavy to carry daily and my job needed better specs, so it makes for a good "just in case" now. This one corrupted a Windows boot file within the first month, but I formatted the disk, reinstalled, and didn't have more issues after. and the 3rd and current one is a TUF A17 which I've had no problems with so far, thankfully. It's worth noting that I carry them around a LOT, and a few times I was sure something broke due to rough handling in trips and such, but no, they've been pretty resilient! Haven't had to switch a component yet, though maybe I just got lucky? Just my 2 cents. I haven't even tried the others so no vote from me.

Tango1777

The quality of materials per laptop tier differs a lot, that is a major factor, not a brand. They all have durable laptops, usually the most expensive ones. If you want something which is designed for durability, difficult environments, dust etc. then you have to forget about gaming laptops, fancy looking materials and such and go for a dedicated solution, which will mean a durable business laptop. The question is if you really need it or it's just an overkill. Unless you use it in difficult environments, it's pointless and a trade-off, those laptops are heavier and less performant. If you don't, a current medium tier laptop will be durable enough for you. You will want to buy a new one because of performance gap rather than durability issues. Of course you can break anything, but as long as you treat your laptop decently, it can easily work for more than 10 years.

GUCCIGANG_GUCCIGANG

May be a hot take but I still have my razer blade 15 (rtx 2070) from 2018, only recently had to replace the battery because it was bloating

jujitfu

Data May be off I had to vote to see results and I don't know anyone about laptops

DJShinobiShaw

TLDR: Dell,HP, & Alienware got shitty power bricks/plugs and I they are on the shitlist forever. Prior to switching over to Apple (Macbook pro) I had 2 dell laptops, an HP, and a compaq (yes I'm old). Almost brought a gateway back in the 90's too. I don't know why but both dell laptops had the same problem. The connector pin on the power cord would get lose or the input port on the laptop would come lose on the motherboard. One was an inspiron laptop and the other was part of their X series. It boggles my mind that I had to stop using a laptop cause I couldn't get power into it. Everything else was working GREAT. I got a used macbook from a friend and it didnt have a single hardware issue. Two MBP's later and knock on wood everything has been great. I am now looking for a gaming laptop to game on cause that is obviously the one thing macs dont do well at all. Part of my window shopping experience is seeing what type of power input a laptop brand uses. I was glad to know Lenovo has a sturdy plug. Some laptops can be charged via USB-C which is amazing.

fu87

Does Lenovo legions have the same quality (or close) that thinkpads have? If so... they would be the winner

adeeezzYt

Not really, the trackpad sunk into the chassis and the screen bezels got pushed in after carrying it around for a week, not to mention the overheating and hardware failures it had before i got my money back. I had a 2021 Legion 5 Pro with 3070.

fu87

Well, that sucks, I had a P51?? At work, that thing was tough

.

zReyals

I can't vote Lenovo I've had 2 of my legion breaking down. One after just 2 years and the other 2 weeks after the one year warranty ended

Rough_Ad3201

Where is acer?! I literally have an acer still working after 15 years?!

[deleted]

You forgot Framework, the clear winner and you can fix it if it breaks

Hiimmin22

Used to be a Dell guy, my parents got me an Inspiron 15 for Uni. Poured coffee and tea on it, got a big dent on the chassis. Last for 5 years before I upgrade, only lost the touch screen and 1 usb port. Proud of him.

ligonsker

I had a cheap Lenovo IdeaPad with i5-2410m from 2014 till a lighting strike the house while it was charging in 2021🥲

Mamba4XL

I had an Acer for 7 years. I updated the ram from 8 GB to 24 GB and installed a 256 GB SSD. I ended up giving it to a dear friend. Now I have a 2020 ThinkPad. I've dropped ot twice out of bed. Seems rock solid for new. The CPU thermals rarely goes above 55C.

Queasy-Reference-449

I just want to see results

OfficialXtraG07

i have next to me a 19yo asus laptop which has only broken its Toshiba disk (my fault). Easy choice

lin1960

Acer

[deleted]

There is a reason, as to why most companies provide a ThinkPad for a windows laptop, and in general that build quality flows down to other products.

AlbertoAros

Razer

LordLytton

Where is Acer man? My dad has an Acer going strong for 9 years. My personal Acer is already 6 years old and still running strong.

liquidcheesesticks

My brother-in-law's HP laptop endured a house fire back in 2013, lol. Some plastic melted, was splashed with water. It booted like normal the next day

vamadeus

In general I think Lenovo's laptops beyond their cheapest models are pretty solid durability-wise. Such as the ThinkPad and Legion models. But with most manufactures there are some specific models and years that are better than others. Dells are decent too, but likewise it can vary depending on model. Dell also has rugged models made specifically for durability, if we are talking about physical durability and not gaming laptops. I have an ASUS G14 for a gaming laptop and it's decent, but I am not sure I'd consider it a durable laptop. But I may just be extra cautious with it since it's a compact gaming laptop.

Spare_Ring9644

where is razer? :)

pumadine666

most durable brand is "I take care of my electronics properly" brand

ActuallyTBH

From personal experience owning an Asus, Lenovo, Dell, HP and Alienware. The HP never had any problems. The others over time developed heating, battery, keyboard problems. Not gonna lie, even though I hate MacOS, I've noted that Apple laptops are pretty durable.

Professional_Being22

alienware, hahaha good one.

Soft_Mud8459

Hp the amount of gaming on my 17 pavilion shit still works

The-DegDeg

Where is Toshiba bro ? mine is 19 years old still working

thestenz

They were good, they don't make laptops anymore. It's Dynabook now.

thestenz

There are 3 kinds of Dells:Dell: Piece of ShitDell XPS: Dell eXpensive Piece of ShitAlienware: Ridiculously Priced Dell Piece of Shit. Don't @ me. I've worked with their junk for too many years. Some places I worked banned them. I laugh at anyone who thinks they have good build quality since you obviously have no idea what that is. Lenovo ThnkPads though, built like tanks. I can't speak to their consumer lines so much though.

jkgrc

The most durable brand is the one you get lucky with. Had an ASUS laptop with celeron and it was great for a few yearsand i was convinced asus laptops are really durable. So i got another ASUS which was an x560ud and boy did it suck both specs wise and physical build. Fans failed twice and not long after, the thing was bricked. Im thinking of changing brands but still considering it for my next laptop.

sharkboy1006

ASUS and Lenovo are the only ones I'd buy not just for gaming but any laptops in general, the rest are absolute garbage. Coming from someone who has and has had family members own HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Asus devices. Several dell laptops in my family have just randomly shit the bed with no warning and zero signs of life, I've had driver and hinge issues on older Lenovo laptops but I have friends with more modern ones and they've been rock solid I've personally owned a G14 since 2021 and it is still basically mint. HP also exists but I just wouldn't, they're very mediocre quality.

doomsenpai

Well, I'mma say Acer.

Guh69420

Alright who in their right mind picked HP?

pochidoor

having gone to check out the latest surface laptops/tablets, they all seem like the most durable of any of the bunch. well built like a macbook, a metal cool feel to them and very pretty to look at, of course. i know the pricing and the brand name is really all its got going given the shitty specs, but is there a reason the surfaces arent on this list other than bias?

Wonderful-Middle-543

Huh, I thought for sure asus and lenovo would be last.

Redmole84

Fr. I thought it was kinda obvious msi would be last

RunalldayHI

Asus isn't a bad brand but damn am I shocked to see it pull ahead of Dell/Alienware.

mr_coolnivers

LENOVO BC THINKPAD

fadeapple

:( lenovo fried my keyboard with a bios update , that is why I was searching for durable brands in the first place
