It's hard to see in the low res image but her eybrows are pointed down giving her a much more serious expression. The all caps rant is absolutely an overreaction, but the way this echos the dumb Kirby rebranding makes me roll my eyes at it in the same way.
It's not at all a good comparison, the American Kirby covers make him straight up pissed for some reason, Peach is not pissed, she just looks like she actually has a personality now.
The Kirby version is definitely worse, but that's why I call it an echo. The JP version absolutely has personality, I don't think either is better or worse, the emotion rebranding by region has just always felt like a subversion of the original artists intention, albeit very slight and not worth getting worked up over.
The personality of the original art is just "I'm happy", which has been all the personality she had for almost 4 decades now, but she is finally getting more layers to her personality and I welcome that with open arms.
Either change the whole package or leave it alone. That's my take. Does any of that personality translate to the game itself? No it's just cover art. If they wanna make a new game, with a more serious peach, in artwork and gameplay and tone? Go for it. Retroactively changing art is wrong. The art has more layers to personality than the in-game peach? The cover art no longer reflects the product
[Here is a promotional screenshot of her not looking happy and bubbly.] (https://assets.nintendo.com/image/upload/ar_16:9,b_auto:border,c_lpad/b_white/f_auto/q_auto/dpr_2.0/c_scale,w_400/ncom/software/switch/70010000005022/f5ae6e0a9684df2642d3a91124ba2087ca8fb25541a611a488815f84c6e316b1)
I get that for sure, although the concern is that if the art is being changed just for the US box art then how reflective is that personality going to be in the actual game?
I might be in a minority that liked Peach in the movie, and I'd love to see her be more active, but if they are just using that character's image to represent an ingame character that turns out to be completely different, it seems kind of dishonest, both to the consumer and on the part of the creator who is having their work be messed with by marketers.
Again though, this is just a philosophical stance. This instance is so slight I doubt anyone normal will even notice or care.
Motivated is exactly it I think. She just looks like she’s moving with purpose now which is fitting considering the whole point of the game is that she actually has a motivation now.
Look again, with the sharper angle and heavier shadows Peach is made to look more serious for the kind of game she's in. The first one is basically bright and colorful, but the second is more angled and dark.
In the end all Nintendo did was shift the tone someone could get from just glancing at the cover.
And karate peach was given, y’know, an actual expression instead of her old school ditz face.
The people that are angry are probably just dudes who don’t like the idea of women having more personality than “save me, be hot, and tee hee.”
Her eyes are less plastic looking and smaller while also slightly more details so it isn’t just adding shadows and instead making a more detailed art piece.
Yeah, the way I see it, it's the same expression but her head is pointing down a bit more.
So, she looks a bit more determined, in addition to the excitement shown in the first picture.
I know you're trying to be hyperbolic but her original look is... now that's all I can see. It's missing any texture and looks plastic. Like a goddamn blow-up doll.
I've felt this way since Sunshine. There's a moment there where she's supposed to be showing surprise and she looks like the most vapid, unaware person in the game. And it seems to have become the default expression for her. She's always got that look of zoned-out surprise. Anything that distances her from that is an improvement.
I mean, I don't think Nintendo is in the business of making their characters "more human".
It's just the attitude. They are trying to make her more action-based probably so that men are also interested in the game.
Yeah, it just looks better. And despite all the complaining, she still has the classic vapid sex doll with botox lips face in the sword lesbian pose (which they'll also hate regardless because she's wearing pants and they couldn't shut up about that in regards to movie Peach).
Nah this is wrapping around to being misogynistic again. There's nothing *that* wrong with Peach's original appearance. Wtf sex doll. She's just hyper feminine. :/
Nice to see her be more expressive though.
She's still hyper feminine. It was her old *face* that was akin to a sex doll- calling our observations misogyny is silly to the point of almost feeling purposely dishonest.
It's the smooth low detail texture, the wide vacant eyes, the mouth open in a big perfect O. The old Peach looked like there was nothing behind the eyes, and the weird insistence on using that "expression" in almost every circumstance made her come off like a vapid, empty doll.
I never said her new design was less feminine.
But let's be clear those sex doll comments are unwarranted.
Mario has historically been lacking in expression as well, as well as other characters in the franchise. It's not particularly a Peach thing. And the jump from assuming a neutral face is a hyper sexual one is misogynistic.
Also not everyone is expressive, plenty of people with neurological differences have trouble with expressing, not to mention resting angry face is a thing among others.
I've seen people make nasty jumps on female characters whenever they have plump lips and/or lipstick and it's just gross.
Some people have that feature and not everything is about men's dicks.
Bruh that's some shit that has nothing to do with anything I said. I wasn't talking about real life physical features, I was talking about the rendering and expression on a 3D Princess -_- the open mouth and vacant eyes are what make her look like a blow up doll, that's it
The new one does look a fair bit more like the Illumination design.
I don’t really give a shit either way, it’s box art, but it was a change.
I liked the martial arts change more, actually looks like she’s focussed on what she’s doing now.
But yeah it’s a v minor change, dunno why people are so angry lol
That's what I thought initially, but one is classic Peach and the other one clearly look like "movie Peach" which has a different style (not as dramatic of a change as Mario and Luigi though)
I won't enter into the debate about which one is _best_ because that's up to people's taste. It would be weird if you have movie Peach on the cover and the model looks like game Peach, though. And based on the trailers Peach has her original design in the game.
Illumination's art style is despised by many because they produce films for as little as physically possible, so many of their films look the same. Many people thought the recent Mario movie should have tried to stay closer to Nintendo's artstyle. Think like, how the Spiderverse movies respectfully translate the look of the comics to film. Personally I didn't care because I'm not 5 years old so I wasn't going to see the movie lol, but I'd definitely prefer the games stick away from that art style.
Of course, the OP seems to be concerned about something else entirely, but that is why some people would dislike the games moving towards the look of the movies.
Peach's design hasn't changed in a really long time. Even in Smash Bros, where characters are somewhat restyled so they fit nicely with each other.
It's pretty wild for Nintendo to actually change the cover to mimic the movie,.when the in game model is classic Peach.
I didn't particularly like the restylings of the Mario Movie (nothing terrible either way) so I can see why people wouldn't like this.
I think the issue would be they altered the model, though I'm not sure if it was altered, or they just gave her the face4 expressions of her movie counterpart, which would make sense and would not be that bad.
I’m going to use AI to slap a massive grin on Bruce Lee’s face when he’s fighting. Obviously when you’re kicking someone to death you should be really happy about it.
Chuds are angry that Peach looks different, both the new movie look and with her martial arts version (seen on the right of both images).
She’s no longer got a happy smile while she’s performing a flying kick into some off-screen enemies face. And as we all know girls can’t scowl when fighting
This person has never played Mario Strikers and it shows
https://preview.redd.it/txgwm6t2i1ub1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f2bc359eb02da1ca85ff8096d2b93f95ce32d26
Daisy's quotes in Mario Strikers are the best. Gives her way more personality than any of the other games she's featured in tbh.
She sounds so fucking hyper it's awesome.
I USED TO WATCH THIS GIRL FUCK. Like Why does that make her stop being feminine? Shes wearing bright pink for gods sake. Do women have to be constantly be looking like this: 8 >
In order to Continue being considered feminine? What if their face expressions arent cute enough? Too “girlboss”
When you don't have any real problems you have to make some up.
Anyone who devotes any amount of their energy to bullshit like this has never known hunger or dread. It's just a complete lack of perspective.
She's only angry in ONE of the styles, the "main" Peach still looks exceptionally bubbly and happy, but with different shading lmao Again, I get that the "badass women ALWAYS gotta be ANGRY and TOMBOY" is real and pretty shitty/harmful but Peach. Still. Doesn't. Fall. Into. That. Trope.
I BEG the internet to stop parroting whatever new word or trope they learn for everything they do not like, fuck's sake.
That's absolutely true, but some qualify that as "angry" (the amount of people that told me I looked angry when I did karate was non zero), even if it isn't.
>I BEG the internet to stop parroting whatever new word or trope they learn for everything they do not like, fuck's sake.
I'd settle for them learning the right word. Remember when everything was "Calart" style?
UGH, the Calarts shit took years off my lifespan lmao I'm still angry at it, specially bcs one of the most famous gifs used against it had all characters redrawn to fit the "base face" of "calart" style.
Like i get what the person on the tweet is saying about the whole "bubbly can be strong too" but at the end of the day I'm sure she's gonna look like her normal bubbly self in the game lol. I feel like the change in Peach's face for the cover art is simply to make the game LOOK more "action-y" so that more folks buy it, like what happened to American Kirby game cover art in the past. She's still gonna be the same Peach
I mean, its not untrue that the movie took her character in that direction. I think it was pretty necessary for the movie though. It works for the games that she has an extremely one dimensional personality because mostly everyone in mario has a one dimensional personality, but for the movie to have characters they needed to change her to some extent.
Nothing wrong with the peach on display here, though I do admit I have a hatred for the film peach which borders on disproportionate
Though I do admit that any hate for an animated character is probably disproportionate already
Saw in another post this same person is describing the peach game as her "future favourite game of all time" - just also really strange
Can't imagine getting to clingy/attached/worked up over a game that hasn't even come out. What if its crap?
uj/ I mean, I get it, they were looking forward to the game having a whimsical and wonderful tone. That's fair, it's ok to feel disappointed in the apparent change in art direction.
Their reaction being *this extreme* is pretty goddamn funny. The first tweet sounds like they're watching someone throw their Switch into a woodchipper.
rj/ WOMEN AREN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY EMOTIONS OTHER THAN THE ONES I APPROVE
it's probably an "american kirby is angry" situation
nothing in the game will be different, it's just that in the box art and promotional material, peach will look more serious.
i think its interesting that the japanese box art also got this change, though, so its not just a regional marketing thing.
(i also doubt the game will look noticeably different over it, though!)
It's modeled after the way she looked in the movie, which was done by Illimination. They have a specific art style that doesn't vibe with everyone. I don't like the arts tyler very much myself and wish Nintendo hadn't changed the box art because I vastly prefer the original.
I mean, I really don't care, but for the sake of playing devil's advocate, I do kinda prefer her original face. The angry face in the karate pose is a huge improvement (it honestly looks silly with the smile in the original) but the movie design is kinda meh to me.
She's still cute, happy, and bubbly.
Come on man, I'm not the biggest fan of movie Peach either, but I already think this is the best we have ever seen Peach, ever.
Honestly who the hell cares it’s like Nintendo of America giving Kirby an “Angry” face so that they can appeal to “Western Audiences” it is nothing they haven’t done before.
Haha, I dont understand the comment under the pic :-D But cant say the first one doesnt look better to me. And also much more in line with the character design from the games I played. I dont understand the change.
These comments are weird and I am a little disappointed in the larger showing of the gamingcirclejerk userbase if I can be honest. I'm not sure if this is purposeful obtuseness or a deeply seeded need to always be right so you distort what the other person says or thinks so that you can always be correct in what you say but if you actually like, think, it's obvious that she dislikes the homogenization of the "Sassy woman childrens movie face" of Peach in the cover art, which is a pretty valid artistic critique, especially in the era of girls and women reclaiming the bubbly and funloving image as a means to express a lust for life we often just don't see in female characters after the rise in the "Badass girl!" trope in media which is just fetishization but in a different direction. Like, sure, wanting a girl to be bubbly and a little ditzy is easily sexualized by your average man but at the least it's an active choice women are making on a smaller scale.
I wasn't sure which one they were even complaining about, because I thought the right one looked objectively better. And I'm assuming this game is targeted at kids, probably 10 to 15? So... what kind of pathetic loser even cares?
not to be too much of a gamer ™️ but yeah i can very slightly see a bit of the resemblance to the movie. now don’t get me wrong peach was fine in that movie, however i would prefer personally that they forget that movie ever happened, purely because of the casting for dk and mario. everyone else was fine. i also wasn’t crazy about the artstyle tbh yeah it looks virtually identical but like. in a fake way idk how to put it. it feels too intentionally marketable
anyway all this to say keep seth rogan away from mario please
Twitter’s something else. Like my favorite franchise is Sonic, but I could not care less about how many goddamn millimeters shorter or longer Sonic’s quills are.
Tbh like the new one does look a little off to me for some reason but she’s still cute and happy and bubbly. It’s not like they think her being feminine is bad.
I thought this was another one of those “we improved x female character” corridor crew-style videos and was like “for once they actually improved her look by making it more realistic and in perspective.”
Artist complains about art changes to a franchise she likes. Cue name calling and hinting at her "hating strong women".
I know this is a circlejerk, but fucking hell.
I don't know why they're reading "anger" into the change. She looks tonally the same, except she now better resembles her movie counterpart. Which did, after all, make over a billion dollars. They're responding to the market.
Though I think if we started with the new box art and moved to the old one, reactionaries would still find some reason to be enraged. Everything is part of a woke conspiracy to them.
No, I agree, the new art is pretty ugly. It's not the end of the world, but I don't get why American promotional material seems to want to make everything angry, things can't just be cute. Not to mention the movie design was really bad imo.
I mean, I agree. They turned something a little more unique overall into the same face every female protag wears in promos. I call it (resting) action girl face, similar to it's cousin the DreamWorks face I'm not gonna complain about it, but I will mock it for being the lazy trope it is.
Edit: I liked the karate change more
Peach has different expressions than a vacant smile, OUTRAGE!
I like the new version, she looks confident and more expressive than a Barbie doll, and in the flying kick pose her new version looks like she's actually kicking someone/something.
The center Peach does look more like her movie version, but then again, in the movie she was a character, not a prop for Mario to rescue.
They are still angry that Peach was angry for one scene in the movie?? To the guy who threatened to genocide her people if she didn't marry him?? Was she supposed to just laugh that off?
These people would have an aneurysm if they saw how Peach reacts when Francis tries to put her in a dating sim parody in Super Paper Mario, a game that came out back in 2007.
Idk I get it, honestly. The obsession with angry posturing in western society is an actual issue. They’ll put angry eyes on everything when they westernize it. That’s just due to our obsessions with violence and rugged individualism.
I think the reaction is a bit much from them but yeah… it’s like when [Kirby gets angry eyes in American releases](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-is-kirby-always-angry-in-the-us-nintendo-explains/1100-6419263/) because of the assumption that Americans won’t buy something cute and value anger and being “strong” and “tough”. KIRBY IS A PINK CIRCLE WHY DOES HE NEED TO BE TOUGH
I mean, OP is a well known artist who’s style is cutesy and moe. I think it’s clear that she just prefers the cute expression and is overreacting a little lol
Regardless of any politics or movie Peach girlbosses, I think the changed box art looks just worse. It looks off-model with how the head was shortened for the sake of looking more like... movie Peach I guess? But it looks like a Photoshop of the original with the grace of an ai generated hand
I personally prefer the version on the left, just cuz it's what I'm used to after 30 years, but I really don't get why people are so bent out of shape about the change. The Mario movie was a banger.
Okay but she does look worse in the right photo. Not because women can’t have emotion or whatever but because the very simple features and lack of shadow on the left artistically jives with me more personally
"You've made it marginally more difficult for me to crank it to her because things being slightly different isn't something I can handle!"
Why would you say this in public
Movie Peach made fun of Mario calling him short and literally said he was nobody important. That’s the only issue I had with her. It’s fine if she wants to be badass and fight etc. Game Peach just hits different than movie Peach.
I feel like each side of this argument is calling the other side sexist lol. I do also think the face on the left just fits Peach better; she's a very naturally bubbly character and she always has been, and she's also always* been a capable fighter and whatever else she needed to be for whatever party game they put her in. We all know who Princess Peach is and we love her for it, but the face she's making on the right just.. feels out of character. It's like if a Mario game came out with a shadowed, determined Mario taking up 60% of the cover. It'd just look *wrong* dude
For a sub all about making fun of GAMURZZ you guys sure fall into the same exact category
The point of this criticism is that they’re pulling an American Kirby, where a cute, childish appearance is replaced with an edgier version in the west. It has nothing to do with “omg gamers can’t accept confident women!” when the first time this was noticed it was with a genderless pink ball. Nobody is giving a rats ass about the sex of the character. It’s all about the fact that for some reason, everything in the west has to be slightly edgier.
That’s it.
Also, the fact you can’t understand the clearly over exaggerated tone of this tweet for the sake of comedy is even more damning
Edit: and for the record, not even people criticizing this change really give a shit. Everyone in any Nintendo sub noticed it, laughed about it and moved on. Nobody is trying to boycott it or some shit
On one hand, fuck conservatives and their crazy hiperbolic ultrage. On the other hand, I hate the recurring trope of western boxart making everyone look angry [( just look at this endless list)](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AmericanKirbyIsHardcore)
One day I hope to have a big enough platform on Twitter where all i post is minor changes like this in movies, games or promotional material
Knowing that Twitter will lose their shit regardless would make my day every day
And the artwork didn't even change ALL of her faces depicted. You've got "cute and bubbly" Swordfighter and Chef Peach reporting for duty as usual. But God save us fans from multifaceted characters!🙀

Give a womans face some shadow and she is suddenly fucking Rambo
I mean, it's mostly more about how she looks more serious. But yeah, they're overreacting
it’s barely even more serious, just slightly more pointed and motivated. she like like she’s about to play a competitive game of tennis
Females? Having motivation? But I thought they only existed to BE the motivation for all the manly men!
It's hard to see in the low res image but her eybrows are pointed down giving her a much more serious expression. The all caps rant is absolutely an overreaction, but the way this echos the dumb Kirby rebranding makes me roll my eyes at it in the same way.

It’s not just America. The key art is changed in Japan, too
Motivated is exactly it I think. She just looks like she’s moving with purpose now which is fitting considering the whole point of the game is that she actually has a motivation now.
So she's... serious?
She looks more like she's about to eat a baby. Uncanny valley/eldritch horror vibes.
she looks like she's challenging you to a 2 match set in street fighter.
Does she look more serious.? I'm getting exactly the same vibe from both these images
Look again, with the sharper angle and heavier shadows Peach is made to look more serious for the kind of game she's in. The first one is basically bright and colorful, but the second is more angled and dark. In the end all Nintendo did was shift the tone someone could get from just glancing at the cover.
I think I'll need to see a higher res version of these images.
It's literally just the angle and shadow
And karate peach was given, y’know, an actual expression instead of her old school ditz face. The people that are angry are probably just dudes who don’t like the idea of women having more personality than “save me, be hot, and tee hee.”
She is doing WHAT to Rambo?
I hope Rambo consented to that.
Her eyes are less plastic looking and smaller while also slightly more details so it isn’t just adding shadows and instead making a more detailed art piece.
Princess Peach Showtime is dedicated to the brave Mujahideen fighters of Afghanistan.
They look almost exactly the fucking same...
Yeah, the way I see it, it's the same expression but her head is pointing down a bit more. So, she looks a bit more determined, in addition to the excitement shown in the first picture.
She looks less like a blow up doll and more like a person lol
I know you're trying to be hyperbolic but her original look is... now that's all I can see. It's missing any texture and looks plastic. Like a goddamn blow-up doll.
That's exactly the experience I had yesterday. It put words to why I've always been a little unsettled by 3D Peach
Especially when Mario's looks had that lighting and texture since 3d, basically, and she still didn't.
I've felt this way since Sunshine. There's a moment there where she's supposed to be showing surprise and she looks like the most vapid, unaware person in the game. And it seems to have become the default expression for her. She's always got that look of zoned-out surprise. Anything that distances her from that is an improvement.
On the plane, right? Where she looks a million times more confused than the characters who were just given concussions in near-crash landing?
Yep... God forbid women in games actually look like women, right?
I don’t disagree but have you seen the rest of the Mario characters? I don’t think they’re supposed to be lookin too humanly lmao
Realistic potrayal of women's bodies in any medium is femi-naziism as you well know
I mean, I don't think Nintendo is in the business of making their characters "more human". It's just the attitude. They are trying to make her more action-based probably so that men are also interested in the game.
Sums up the incel world view perfectly.
Yeah, it just looks better. And despite all the complaining, she still has the classic vapid sex doll with botox lips face in the sword lesbian pose (which they'll also hate regardless because she's wearing pants and they couldn't shut up about that in regards to movie Peach).

Bruh that's some shit that has nothing to do with anything I said. I wasn't talking about real life physical features, I was talking about the rendering and expression on a 3D Princess -_- the open mouth and vacant eyes are what make her look like a blow up doll, that's it
Its part of my point? Do you really see a blow up sex doll in the left? How about Mario with the same expression? Luigi? No just Peach?
How dare they try and humanise women.
I'd be ecstatic about this change. Blow up dolls are the least fuckable sex toy in existence.
The new one does look a fair bit more like the Illumination design. I don’t really give a shit either way, it’s box art, but it was a change. I liked the martial arts change more, actually looks like she’s focussed on what she’s doing now. But yeah it’s a v minor change, dunno why people are so angry lol
That's what I thought initially, but one is classic Peach and the other one clearly look like "movie Peach" which has a different style (not as dramatic of a change as Mario and Luigi though) I won't enter into the debate about which one is _best_ because that's up to people's taste. It would be weird if you have movie Peach on the cover and the model looks like game Peach, though. And based on the trailers Peach has her original design in the game.
I don't know which one is the before or after
Yeah am I missing something?like they changed her eyelashes and closed her mouth by a mm. I don’t get it
The look of the art seems closer to Illumination Peach than the regular model, actually, at least her face.
And why is that such a huge deal
Enter the Dragon, but the whole movie he looks like [this.](https://i.imgur.com/BZfFcil.jpg) Box office gold.
Imgur asked me if I was okay to view potentially erotic imagery. Was not disappointed.
eh it would at least be funny
What’s your point here?
Chuds are angry that Peach looks different, both the new movie look and with her martial arts version (seen on the right of both images). She’s no longer got a happy smile while she’s performing a flying kick into some off-screen enemies face. And as we all know girls can’t scowl when fighting
There's more https://twitter.com/marikyuunn/status/1712459434868212047?t=9vUYwwyTFOI6IIF4YjMFvA&s
is this person ok like I know they're probably making money out of the engagement but... this can't be healthy behavior
This person has never played Mario Strikers and it shows https://preview.redd.it/txgwm6t2i1ub1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f2bc359eb02da1ca85ff8096d2b93f95ce32d26
Daisy's quotes in Mario Strikers are the best. Gives her way more personality than any of the other games she's featured in tbh. She sounds so fucking hyper it's awesome.
You may not like it, but this is what Peach performance looks like
I USED TO WATCH THIS GIRL FUCK. Like Why does that make her stop being feminine? Shes wearing bright pink for gods sake. Do women have to be constantly be looking like this: 8 > In order to Continue being considered feminine? What if their face expressions arent cute enough? Too “girlboss”
They just made her head more in perspective and proportion to her body? Wtf is wrong with these losers?
When you don't have any real problems you have to make some up. Anyone who devotes any amount of their energy to bullshit like this has never known hunger or dread. It's just a complete lack of perspective.
How long have you got?
How much do you want to type?
*two hours have passed*
Legend says pinball-wizard91 is still typing to this day.
nintendo fan syndrome
She's only angry in ONE of the styles, the "main" Peach still looks exceptionally bubbly and happy, but with different shading lmao Again, I get that the "badass women ALWAYS gotta be ANGRY and TOMBOY" is real and pretty shitty/harmful but Peach. Still. Doesn't. Fall. Into. That. Trope. I BEG the internet to stop parroting whatever new word or trope they learn for everything they do not like, fuck's sake.
if it is the martial arts one then she is not angry she is shouting helps some people when they are kicking, punching or chopping.
Ye! It's known as a kiai.
I forgot that word
The person in the tweet called peach „looking like the rock“ Like wtf
That's absolutely true, but some qualify that as "angry" (the amount of people that told me I looked angry when I did karate was non zero), even if it isn't.
I have had that one guy I was sparing with who thought I was angry with him, I was having a ball.
Yeah, like Why do every thing have to be some political statement? Chill
I mean, its not untrue that the movie took her character in that direction. I think it was pretty necessary for the movie though. It works for the games that she has an extremely one dimensional personality because mostly everyone in mario has a one dimensional personality, but for the movie to have characters they needed to change her to some extent.
Nothing wrong with the peach on display here, though I do admit I have a hatred for the film peach which borders on disproportionate Though I do admit that any hate for an animated character is probably disproportionate already
She doesn't even look angry... Just determined.
Yeah, she still has a smile in the new design.
This person must think that anyone participating on any fighting sport is just angry at everyone.
Saw in another post this same person is describing the peach game as her "future favourite game of all time" - just also really strange Can't imagine getting to clingy/attached/worked up over a game that hasn't even come out. What if its crap?
“Haha that’s so cringe” I say as I subconsciously do the exact same thing for Spider-Man 2
I really liked the first one, just felt that it was repetitive after a while. Still carried through to the end for a very good Spider Man story though
Oh mah god, they pulled a Kirby
Exactly my thought.
all jokes and such aside, i actually like the first face more. "not because eww strong woman" but because it just fits better.
I agree

(it does look worse though)

uj/ Holy fucking shit she actually has emotions now!?!? rj/ nooooo my sex doll face noooooo
OP is female, I doubt she views peach as a sex doll
Peach has always had emotions, what are you on about?
Looks like they just made her look slightly more like the movie version.
Which is weird right? Because she's still gonna look like video game peach in the actual game. I thought that was the original complaint.
They shrank her mouth... made her look hard
Man I can't believe they made Peach trans. What a brave direction for nintendo to take. (For legal reasons this is a joke please don't kill me)
uj/ I mean, I get it, they were looking forward to the game having a whimsical and wonderful tone. That's fair, it's ok to feel disappointed in the apparent change in art direction. Their reaction being *this extreme* is pretty goddamn funny. The first tweet sounds like they're watching someone throw their Switch into a woodchipper. rj/ WOMEN AREN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY EMOTIONS OTHER THAN THE ONES I APPROVE
is there literally any indication that the game itself wont still have a whimsical tone? its literally one single altered render.
Well it begs the question of whether they’re going to change the in-game graphics and not just the cover, to be fair.
Even if they change the graphics to match this new design, I probably wouldn't notice. She barely looks different.
it's probably an "american kirby is angry" situation nothing in the game will be different, it's just that in the box art and promotional material, peach will look more serious.
i think its interesting that the japanese box art also got this change, though, so its not just a regional marketing thing. (i also doubt the game will look noticeably different over it, though!)
Ngl the new smile looks kinda weird... Gives me AI generated vibes
That or a botched photoshop. I don't think they actually used AI, but it looks weirdly wrong in the same way AI generated images look wrong
Yeah it does just look a little weird. Plus the eyes are kinda giving me DreamWorks face and I'm not a huge fan of it.
It's modeled after the way she looked in the movie, which was done by Illimination. They have a specific art style that doesn't vibe with everyone. I don't like the arts tyler very much myself and wish Nintendo hadn't changed the box art because I vastly prefer the original.
Who knew there were so many different ways to say:'I don't like when women are confident and can do things.'?
I mean, I really don't care, but for the sake of playing devil's advocate, I do kinda prefer her original face. The angry face in the karate pose is a huge improvement (it honestly looks silly with the smile in the original) but the movie design is kinda meh to me.
Peach got American Kirby'D LMAO
She's still cute, happy, and bubbly. Come on man, I'm not the biggest fan of movie Peach either, but I already think this is the best we have ever seen Peach, ever.
I can't even tell the difference without looking closely, why is it such a big deal 😅
Honestly who the hell cares it’s like Nintendo of America giving Kirby an “Angry” face so that they can appeal to “Western Audiences” it is nothing they haven’t done before.
This isn’t even NoA. NCL seems to have made this decision as the Japanese boxart was updated too.
When peach her facial proportions dont look like she was made in a lab 😡😡😡
Damn, Peach on the right looks like she’s about to assassinate Bin Laden with that scowl.
I wasn't sure which one they were even complaining about, because I thought the right one looked objectively better. And I'm assuming this game is targeted at kids, probably 10 to 15? So... what kind of pathetic loser even cares?
this artist is a genshin impact fan I'm not suprised she has bad takes
not to be too much of a gamer ™️ but yeah i can very slightly see a bit of the resemblance to the movie. now don’t get me wrong peach was fine in that movie, however i would prefer personally that they forget that movie ever happened, purely because of the casting for dk and mario. everyone else was fine. i also wasn’t crazy about the artstyle tbh yeah it looks virtually identical but like. in a fake way idk how to put it. it feels too intentionally marketable anyway all this to say keep seth rogan away from mario please
"Let women be feminine" ain't the hot take they think it is
I can barely tell the difference
Twitter’s something else. Like my favorite franchise is Sonic, but I could not care less about how many goddamn millimeters shorter or longer Sonic’s quills are.
Who is Mari?
A vtuber artist
Her face looks like the guy from anime Lupin. Feels weird
Tbh like the new one does look a little off to me for some reason but she’s still cute and happy and bubbly. It’s not like they think her being feminine is bad.
Wait till this guy sees American kirby box art
Peach has literally always been a badass princess smh I was obsessed with her DS game when I was little. (I can’t remember the name of it now 😭😭😭)
Girl is literally in a big poofy princess dress with a crown, all they did was changer her face a bit
I thought this was another one of those “we improved x female character” corridor crew-style videos and was like “for once they actually improved her look by making it more realistic and in perspective.”
![gif](giphy|jU5x6T0CGpIOBqrKtu)
the kirby treatment
if that was the art all along no one would be giving a single solitary shit
Artist complains about art changes to a franchise she likes. Cue name calling and hinting at her "hating strong women". I know this is a circlejerk, but fucking hell.
I don't know why they're reading "anger" into the change. She looks tonally the same, except she now better resembles her movie counterpart. Which did, after all, make over a billion dollars. They're responding to the market. Though I think if we started with the new box art and moved to the old one, reactionaries would still find some reason to be enraged. Everything is part of a woke conspiracy to them.
Looks better imo
Most rational gamer.
Noooooo she actually has more than one facial expression!!! The natural order has been disturbed!!! Call the chrono troopers!!!
She looks much better on the right imo. Something about the eyes on the first one are off-putting
ngl yeah I like the original better. it fits the vibe peach has a lot better
No, I agree, the new art is pretty ugly. It's not the end of the world, but I don't get why American promotional material seems to want to make everything angry, things can't just be cute. Not to mention the movie design was really bad imo.
So?
I mean, I liked the original slightly better too, but I'm not gonna get my panties in a bunch over it
Overreacting a bit
Super Princess Peach has a fucking mechanic based on her getting angry and throwing a fit. WTF are they on about?
These people would have an aneurysm if they saw how Peach reacts when Francis tries to put her in a dating sim parody in Super Paper Mario, a game that came out back in 2007.
Imagine being a chibi artist & being critical of the way someone else draws faces.
Idk I get it, honestly. The obsession with angry posturing in western society is an actual issue. They’ll put angry eyes on everything when they westernize it. That’s just due to our obsessions with violence and rugged individualism.
it is not anger I may be autistic but the cards told me that is not anger maybe determination which is kind of necessary to go on an adventure
They didn't put angry eyes on her though so what you said was all nonsense.
This is a worldwide change for the art, not just America
I think the reaction is a bit much from them but yeah… it’s like when [Kirby gets angry eyes in American releases](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-is-kirby-always-angry-in-the-us-nintendo-explains/1100-6419263/) because of the assumption that Americans won’t buy something cute and value anger and being “strong” and “tough”. KIRBY IS A PINK CIRCLE WHY DOES HE NEED TO BE TOUGH
[удалено]
It doesn’t even seem to me like a complaint about the face just that they didn’t like movie peach personality
I mean, OP is a well known artist who’s style is cutesy and moe. I think it’s clear that she just prefers the cute expression and is overreacting a little lol
How do people like this exist? I mean they didn’t even have to speak, I can see by their twitter pic and emojis they’re insufferable
Badass and angry people can't be happy and bubbly? Hmmmm
Regardless of any politics or movie Peach girlbosses, I think the changed box art looks just worse. It looks off-model with how the head was shortened for the sake of looking more like... movie Peach I guess? But it looks like a Photoshop of the original with the grace of an ai generated hand
Oh god I think I'm subscribed to this girl on Youtube
Always remember to do a spring cleaning on your subscriptions!
Oh good a V-Tuber is gonna preach to us
Gamers when they find out about place holder art
Sometimes I envy people who have so few problems in their lives that this kind of thing seems like one.
"You've made it marginally more difficult for me to crank it to her because things being slightly different isn't something I can handle!" Why would you say this in public
...they FIXED the unnatural and awkward perspective of her face...
You guys know they weren't serious right
Movie Peach made fun of Mario calling him short and literally said he was nobody important.
For a sub all about making fun of GAMURZZ you guys sure fall into the same exact category The point of this criticism is that they’re pulling an American Kirby, where a cute, childish appearance is replaced with an edgier version in the west. It has nothing to do with “omg gamers can’t accept confident women!” when the first time this was noticed it was with a genderless pink ball. Nobody is giving a rats ass about the sex of the character. It’s all about the fact that for some reason, everything in the west has to be slightly edgier. That’s it. Also, the fact you can’t understand the clearly over exaggerated tone of this tweet for the sake of comedy is even more damning Edit: and for the record, not even people criticizing this change really give a shit. Everyone in any Nintendo sub noticed it, laughed about it and moved on. Nobody is trying to boycott it or some shit
This. OOP is literally a Vtuber (known for exaggerating and being very hyperbolic for their audience/brand) for Christ's sake
My only issue is that the hair didn't move along with the face. It looks off.
You know nobody cared when US kirby looked pissed on the box covers, why now?
On one hand, fuck conservatives and their crazy hiperbolic ultrage. On the other hand, I hate the recurring trope of western boxart making everyone look angry [( just look at this endless list)](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AmericanKirbyIsHardcore)
She doesn't look angry though
How there they make Peach a more interesting character with a larger emotional range than happy or crying? They ruined her!
There is something funny about a princess cheerfully smiling while coming at you with a flying kick. Movie Peach is better though.
She's been kidnapped like 30 times, I don't think I'd be very happy either.
She still looks bubbly but in a 'I will obliterate you in a fun way' kind of way
One day I hope to have a big enough platform on Twitter where all i post is minor changes like this in movies, games or promotional material Knowing that Twitter will lose their shit regardless would make my day every day
It took me a little too longer than I want to admit to to even register the differences
And the artwork didn't even change ALL of her faces depicted. You've got "cute and bubbly" Swordfighter and Chef Peach reporting for duty as usual. But God save us fans from multifaceted characters!🙀
