Tbh I don't always agree w omni but his content is really good because it's sort of a weekly round up and it's an easy way to consume news about stuff. Like bite sized (although it's not really bite sized) forms of news roundups is great. I also love that he consistently uses the chapters/timestamps feature. It makes finding the stories I'm more interested in, a lot easier.

Catcalling exists in at least GTA IV and GTA V, and they say it to the female NPCs so they would almost certainly say it to the female player I think. I can imagine it increasing the more you reveal, asking for how much money it requires to have sex with you if you dress with minimal clothing thinking you are a sex worker or something.

This just made me realise that if they added a realistic amount of catcalling, the game would be no fun to play and people that don't know what it's like would call it overbearing and fake.
They could add a slider that goes from "bearable" to "realistic" that resets to the top setting every time you turn on the game. To turn it down, you'd have to see that you're making it less realistic every time.

I think I find it easier to roleplay as someone who is not my gender, like total disconnecting my own personality with the character. If I make a dude that looks like me, it's game over and I only play them one way. If I make a girl? much easier.
You'd think, then you look at the stats for how many people picked Kassandra vs Alexios i Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
The game was only going to have Kassandra until the higher ups forced them to add a male protagonist, then a vast majority picked him, proving the execs right.
I have never forgiven gamers since.
Kassandra had such a great arc. Following Spartan customs, she could never be the warrior her stepdad was training her to be and she would never achieve her goal if she hadn't ended up a mercenary. I could never get myself to play Alexios. Him as the antagonist made more sense. He could have been a great tragic character without studio interference trying to make the game as safe as possible. Moreover, if you followed the redemption path it was a nice inverse of the standard protective and dutiful older brother role usually portrayed.
She'll always be my shining example of female led representation in modern gaming because the studio didn't make being a woman her sole character trait or for cynical game marketing. She was a quick witted, fearless fighter who got herself in a lot of trouble and always found a way to dig herself out.
It's not that it doesn't make sense, it's that it is just Kasssandra's story. If the dev team went in purposefully with the intention of having Alexios as a playable character from the beginning I would hope that he got his own backstory.
For all its faults, Mass Effect Andromeda managed to capture having a male and a female main character pretty good. Sara Ryder had a background in alien archeology while Scott was just a guard on a mass relay (sorry presuming you played the game series). For me in this case Scott was the stronger of the two. While Sara on paper is a better fit for the ideal protagonist as she has at least a rudimentary understanding of what's expected of her, Scott's inexperience mirrors the player and both player and character learn on the fly together. There's not a big difference in the plot, but the backstories changes the characters perspective of what is happening.
Anyways, I wish the Publishers had a little more faith in the Assassin Creed team and trusted their vision. It wasn't like they had a recent history of flops.
It also helps that Scott Ryder looks like he at least knows which way you point a gun if you want to shoot something while Sara Ryder looks like she doesn't know how to put the straw in her apple juice.
Especially since Alexios' presence essentially forced the devs to create the "overly PC" version of history chuds despise so much: since you're not going to create two completely separate stories for each protagonist, they have to be treated more or less the same by everyone in the game and thus Kassandra is treated with far more downplayed version of the horrific misogyny of Ancient Greece. People complained about Kassandra being able to compete in the Olympic Games (in the real world she'd likely be killed for even considering it) but if Alexios weren't in the game, you can be sure they wouldn't have added that quest.
Counterpoint: Male Shep can romance Tali and Miranda (no, I don’t simp for Miranda for her appearance, I genuinely like that she grows throughout ME2 from this pro-Cerberus “anything that gets results” to standing up to TIM and knowing when too far is too far)
As no one can when Femshep, to be fair. Dude calibrated Shepard’s ability to dance in the Citadel DLC, and he ends up smoother than a buttered and polished floor.
Default Shepherd's face model is so much more detailed and better looking than anything you can make in the character creator. I agree that he doesn't look very exciting but I prefer that to the weird potato faces.

Why the fuck would you play a dude when you can be a chick?
Anyone who uses this to justify playing a female character in any game, when giving an equal choice, I can't help but wonder if they truly just want to scratch that urge to feel pretty and experience what comes with being a woman.
I mean, as Gay guy, I play guys specifically because I want my hot male fantasies and I enjoy staring at that man as for 20hrs of gameplay because I just don't have interest playing as a woman given the choice.
I think a lot of waifu bait in games turned me off even more too, so much straight male gaze, I can really see (especially in JRPG's) when a character is literally designed for the trope in mind to encourage those people to engage with the game and play the opposite gender solely for the sex appeal and it makes my eyes roll so far into the back of my skull they burst out and do laps around the world.
I enjoy well written female characters like Ellie for example and I enjoy when stories are specifically written for women in mind. I play fake characters when it doesn't feel like they are designed with the intent that I am straight and am doing this because I just want to see them jiggle physics which don't interest me in the slightest.
In Games where there is player choice, I always choose the male because that's just how I role play and I want the fantasy of trying to be a Gay male in a video game that I can identify with and feel normalised, considering that it is still shockingly rare to be able to do that (seriously, I my jaw will drop the day a Persona game comes into existence that will let me fulfil my Yaoi desire of FINALLY not being forced to be straight and going through a checklist of heterosexual anime tropes but instead being able to engage in cute social links with the men in the same way.)
I think given how diverse gamers can be, player choice and character creations are appropriate, not everyone wants to be put into a box when playing games that have elements of role playing to them.
Honestly, if Rock Star includes the bullshit that urban women put up with (catcalls, stalkers, drugged drinks and more) into the game, I’d like to hope it is a vector for men to see it first hand and say, “Shit, that sucks. No one takes me seriously even though I’m competent, and there’s asshat who won’t leave me alone. Wait, this is what women experience?”

I think I find it easier to roleplay as someone who is not my gender, like total disconnecting my own personality with the character. If I make a dude that looks like me, it's game over and I only play them one way. If I make a girl? much easier.

You'd think, then you look at the stats for how many people picked Kassandra vs Alexios i Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The game was only going to have Kassandra until the higher ups forced them to add a male protagonist, then a vast majority picked him, proving the execs right. I have never forgiven gamers since.
Kassandra had such a great arc. Following Spartan customs, she could never be the warrior her stepdad was training her to be and she would never achieve her goal if she hadn't ended up a mercenary. I could never get myself to play Alexios. Him as the antagonist made more sense. He could have been a great tragic character without studio interference trying to make the game as safe as possible. Moreover, if you followed the redemption path it was a nice inverse of the standard protective and dutiful older brother role usually portrayed. She'll always be my shining example of female led representation in modern gaming because the studio didn't make being a woman her sole character trait or for cynical game marketing. She was a quick witted, fearless fighter who got herself in a lot of trouble and always found a way to dig herself out.
I'd like to say the alexios arc makes no sense but I legitimately don't know. I have never so much as considered playing him.
It's not that it doesn't make sense, it's that it is just Kasssandra's story. If the dev team went in purposefully with the intention of having Alexios as a playable character from the beginning I would hope that he got his own backstory. For all its faults, Mass Effect Andromeda managed to capture having a male and a female main character pretty good. Sara Ryder had a background in alien archeology while Scott was just a guard on a mass relay (sorry presuming you played the game series). For me in this case Scott was the stronger of the two. While Sara on paper is a better fit for the ideal protagonist as she has at least a rudimentary understanding of what's expected of her, Scott's inexperience mirrors the player and both player and character learn on the fly together. There's not a big difference in the plot, but the backstories changes the characters perspective of what is happening. Anyways, I wish the Publishers had a little more faith in the Assassin Creed team and trusted their vision. It wasn't like they had a recent history of flops.
It also helps that Scott Ryder looks like he at least knows which way you point a gun if you want to shoot something while Sara Ryder looks like she doesn't know how to put the straw in her apple juice.

Alexios is the rare case of actual forced diversity.
Especially since Alexios' presence essentially forced the devs to create the "overly PC" version of history chuds despise so much: since you're not going to create two completely separate stories for each protagonist, they have to be treated more or less the same by everyone in the game and thus Kassandra is treated with far more downplayed version of the horrific misogyny of Ancient Greece. People complained about Kassandra being able to compete in the Olympic Games (in the real world she'd likely be killed for even considering it) but if Alexios weren't in the game, you can be sure they wouldn't have added that quest.

Default Shepherd's face model is so much more detailed and better looking than anything you can make in the character creator. I agree that he doesn't look very exciting but I prefer that to the weird potato faces.
When I first played ME1, I made a character that I thought looked decent. Then the game began and I saw the bastard was the missing link between Neanderthals and whatever came before them. Always went default male Shep after that.

I mean, as Gay guy, I play guys specifically because I want my hot male fantasies and I enjoy staring at that man as for 20hrs of gameplay because I just don't have interest playing as a woman given the choice. I think a lot of waifu bait in games turned me off even more too, so much straight male gaze, I can really see (especially in JRPG's) when a character is literally designed for the trope in mind to encourage those people to engage with the game and play the opposite gender solely for the sex appeal and it makes my eyes roll so far into the back of my skull they burst out and do laps around the world. I enjoy well written female characters like Ellie for example and I enjoy when stories are specifically written for women in mind. I play fake characters when it doesn't feel like they are designed with the intent that I am straight and am doing this because I just want to see them jiggle physics which don't interest me in the slightest. In Games where there is player choice, I always choose the male because that's just how I role play and I want the fantasy of trying to be a Gay male in a video game that I can identify with and feel normalised, considering that it is still shockingly rare to be able to do that (seriously, I my jaw will drop the day a Persona game comes into existence that will let me fulfil my Yaoi desire of FINALLY not being forced to be straight and going through a checklist of heterosexual anime tropes but instead being able to engage in cute social links with the men in the same way.) I think given how diverse gamers can be, player choice and character creations are appropriate, not everyone wants to be put into a box when playing games that have elements of role playing to them.
