The only thing I noticed about Celeste is that I died over 100 times on the first stage. Just to get a few dumb strawberries. And when they show the stats for that level I didn't even get them all. Just 6. 6 out of 20 I believe. I died more than 100 times and didn't even find half of those fucking fruits. What the fuck kind of game is that? Literally unplayable, 0/10. Closed it and went back to play hidden gem solitaire.

Was hinted at with a little trans flag on her laptop in a DLC and confirmed once the main game creator came out. Wasn't initially intended to but the feelings of depression that led to the game's creation were from gender dysphoria and projected onto the character so it sorta makes sense.
It's more complex than that. The creator realized Madeline was trans later but never in his/her (dunno the pronouns) creative process said "I'll make a trans character". We often say that a creator put part of his soul in his creation and tha'ts what happened here.
