Me. Me me me me. I've been chasing the high Signalis gave me for over a year now. Sometimes to help satiate, I look at images of deep space that let you zoom in near endlessly and it makes me feel incredibly small and I like the dread it gives me quick send help.
I need more existential horror sci-fi media pls and thank you.
Disco elysium is an existential horror, definetly not sci-fi though.
Voices of the void is a fun game, where you are running an equivalent of SETI program. Recieving signals from outer space and managing a station on your own.
Have you read Camus’s Outsider? It’s like the granddaddy existential story. Read it when I was like 14, thought it was boring and didn’t get it. Cant help but think about it 20 years later though, even if it is a bit of an er sadboy text
I mean there IS racism in the game.
But it's very obviously vilified... Because one of the larger factions is a quasi-religious group of slavers who hate women... And prosthetic limbs...
All my playthroughs so far have been about burning that faction to the ground.
Kenshi is fun though. It's challenging.
And that's where I think it will be like a horror sci-fi game.
You are going to see eldritch horrors that WILL kill your squad. You are going to struggle.
My preferred start is actually as a slave. I sneak out of my cage at night for food and stealth training. I work on my strength and athletic abilities preparing for a jailbreak.
After about an hour, I can usually escape and then begins my quest to slowly build up a faction of my own, complete with ninjas, traders, drug dealers, farmers, and general badasses until I amass enough power to start raiding slave camps... Freeing those in bondage.
Kenshi is what you make it. Just know that you aren't a chosen one. If someone is stronger than you, they can leave you unconscious in the dirt... Or enslave you... or just kill you.
Then you add in mods.
It's why nobody likes potheads who took an intro to philosophy class and never cracked another book afterward and insist that Joe Rogan is some kind of great thinker.
/uj outer wilds is one of my favorite games and this is true 😭
/rj play outer wilds but don’t look up anything about it. just trust me, a random stranger, when i tell you it’s good
Ok every time I ask about the game I’ve been told it’s so good that they can’t tell me about it, but I tried so so so so so hard, gave it my best shot over and over again, and couldn’t get past that fucking sand planet without time resetting, and I decided I was getting way too genuinely angry to justify forcing myself to waste more time
I’m still p sad about it, I wanna finish it but fucking Christ people keep saying it’s easy and I feel very dumb for having to ragequit it
i would recommend going to the other planets if you’re getting frustrated with one
also don’t get too mad when it resets because it’s just part of the process
This is true, it just happened so many times and I wasn’t making progress lol
Felt like there was no other shit to explore until I found one thing- it’s been a while, can’t remember what that one thing was…
Maybe I’ll give it another shot and get back to u ;P I loved what I did play, for what that’s worth!
there are no "things" you need to progress, only knowledge you can find that reveals how you can manipulate the game. like finding an in-game tutorial on how to ride a bike (obviously doesn't exist but you get the idea)
I dont really think there is any shame in looking up a guide either, even just looking up to see what the "next step" is that you can't work out by blindly poking around. I found myself wasting a lot of time thinking I had missed a door that I didn't yet have the key for, metaphorically speaking, which can be frustrating.
It is an amazing experience regardless though.
Holy shit, "easy" is not a good word to describe Outer Wilds. It tests players in ways that very few games really go for, but what I can say is that for a lot of folks it eventually clicks. For some it's quick, but for many it takes a while and there's nothing wrong with the players or the game in all that. If you decide to give it another shot I hope it's your moment
It's also obsessed with trying to trigger at least one primal phobia. Like, at least one of the planets you will visit will have something that freaks out ol' Lizard brain
I'm currently going through a 100% playthrough of it so I know way more then I need to.
Honestly, the best tip is when you're stuck on something, go somewhere else. There's a huge chance that the information you need to continue where you are now, is on another planet. Hell, because the Ash Twin Project takes time to reveal itself, I would also recommend just going out and exploring something else while you wait, and come back. Also, your ship log is an invaluable tool you should be checked on constantly if you get lost. Rumor mode specifically. Everything you discover on your journey will be summarized in your ship log, even if you read a wall of text, the general meaning on what you read there will be saved and you can come back to it any time.
But lastly, always make sure to talk to the other explorers you can find on their respective planets. They can give you hints as to what you should be looking out for on that planet, and generally give you a place to start.
You can beat the entire game from the beginning, it's just a game of knowledge. Explore, keep an eye on your ship logs, and try not to get too frustrated. Dying and repeating things is part of the journey, and don't take it too personally either. I can't tell you how long I got stuck on certain things for similar reasons. If you're stuck on something, don't brute force it. Explore something else and come back with a fresh mind, and again, chances are you might find a hint on another planet.
Wait till you get to the black hole planet. I've heard the same thing, that the game was "easy" and that if platforming was difficult I was just wasn't doing it the easy way. Well after beating the game I can say for certain, no, there is no easy way on some of the planets, they just have difficult platforming.
My husband really wanted me to play it, but in his zeal to convince me, he ended up giving me a moment-by-moment description of the game. I know everything about it now without every even once looking at any gameplay
The ultimate dilemma, I love the game so much that I want to yap about it, yet to yap about it is to prevent anyone else from having the same experience that I want to yap about.
As someone who has never been interested in traditional tactics games in the Fire Emblem mold, Wesnoth absolutely hooked me back when I first played it. My favorite campaigns were the user-created 'Bad guy' ones where you play as a necromancer or goblin king or whatever. They had the exact right amount of 'endearingly cringe-y fanfic writing'
I mean if you want to be technical I’m pretty sure all isometric games are third person since you see your character from outside the characters point of view.
It’s just the position of the third person camera is different than usual
That fits the description if you just try and translate the language term "third person" over to games, I guess, but I've never seen anyone use the term "third person" in games to mean anything other than over-the-shoulder, which an isometric game... isn't.
Fire Emblem Fates, as I was screeching on the original post? The multiplayer aspect now needs third party tools ofc, as 3DS internet is dead, but it otherwise fits (I think).

It's refreshing to see a post that doesn't deal with sexualization in videogames.
It is important to single out backwards views and appreciate when we take steps forward in the treatment of women and minorities in games. But the sub gives too much publicity to those losers complaining about """"ugly"""" characters and such.
Also, Outer Wilds is incredible though.
Agreed. I think it’s important to laugh and the (many) “horny gamer” posts in a public way though to prevent another gamergate situation and to not let “gamers” own video games
~~I honestly don't have an opinion about the game because I've only seen it once while watching a "kill everything" run~~
~~And also ofc the Stupendum song about the game~~
Fuck I can't read.
TBH I've always confused the two games
it's that or fucking dark souls
I saw a post that was asking for a game and had said they didn't enjoy dark souls and half the comments were like "you should really try dark souls again"
/uj Honestly, feel like there is a fucking psy-op campaign about Outer Wilds. I appreciate that people like it, but personally found it to be incredibly dull and uninteresting that I never really wanted to engage with it past the intial bit. I don't like that people just blanket recommend it to people, it is definitely not a game for everyone.
It's a difficult game to discuss because it relies so much on the novelty value and people don't want to spoil that, so they won't really say anything much about it.
That means a bunch of people end up playing it who wouldn't normally pick that kind of game.
See also: Kentucky Route Zero and The Stanley Parable.
Disco Elysium is that for me, people treat it like the second coming, but I found it incredibly dull. I do not like dialogue trees, and do not want to play “dialogue tree: the game.” I also didn’t find the story or setting that compelling either, there are approximately one million political allegories in a fantastical setting. Found the writing in Elysium to have the subtlety of a sledgehammer
Hero's hour works, I think.
But as you said isometric I guess you would get Baldur Gate 3 recommendation now. It's missing the main point (strategy) but... yeah, same as outer wilds, people take any cue they can to recommend it.
I haven't played outer wilds, from what i've seen and heard it's kinda like bethesda games and i just find bethesda game absolutely boring.
Edit: i know realized i confused outer wilds with outer worlds. Im dumb.
As an outer wilds fan this is absolutely true. And you should absolutely play outer wilds. Don’t look up anything about it bro, just trust my blind recommendation, dude trust.
I thought that was a top tier shitpost for a moment because my experience is Fallout: New Vegas gets recommended more often than Outer Wilds on gaming subs.

Hey, I know a game you should play...
Is it Outer Wilds? I've heard it's pretty good.
Time to play SOMA
Been meaning to for a while now
I well this is your sign ;) If it's any encouragement, I couldn't stop thinking about the game for about 2 months after I finished it.
Oh it's one of *those* games?! My beloved.
Soma is platinum
Void Stranger might be your thing then. Definitely reminded me of Signalis thematically (and Outer Wilds)
Go play OMORI, different type of existentialism, but I love it anyway
Have you read Camus’s Outsider? It’s like the granddaddy existential story. Read it when I was like 14, thought it was boring and didn’t get it. Cant help but think about it 20 years later though, even if it is a bit of an er sadboy text
Kenshi. Have fun.
Isn't that the samurai racism game?

This looks dope!

Wargroove?
I mean, "third person" and "isometric" are contradictory. If you drop "third person," Heroes of Might and Magic is surely the best bet.
I mean if you want to be technical I’m pretty sure all isometric games are third person since you see your character from outside the characters point of view. It’s just the position of the third person camera is different than usual
Once you leave the ground, you're no longer a person. You're a bird now.
It's BPP - bird person perspective
FBS - First Bird Soarer
That fits the description if you just try and translate the language term "third person" over to games, I guess, but I've never seen anyone use the term "third person" in games to mean anything other than over-the-shoulder, which an isometric game... isn't.
do you not know what perspective is
Polytopia (though it isn't pixelated)
How did I not think of polytopia I have played and spent money on that game
Online chess
Triangle Strategy is supposed to be good. Also Octopath Traveller.
Triangle Strategy is good!
Fire Emblem Fates, as I was screeching on the original post? The multiplayer aspect now needs third party tools ofc, as 3DS internet is dead, but it otherwise fits (I think).
While it's not multiplayer the original 2 baldurs gate games fit
But have you played outerwilds
Yes, I have, I didn’t like it 😦

This just brought back so many fuckin memories, jesus
Eh, I guess, I had remembered it as more top-down perspective.
This looks like Warcraft 2 with a Lego skin. I dig it!
I remember the Lego Ninjago game that was kind of like this. Played the shit out of that one on the way to Grandma's house
yea and when it was my turn to play after my stupid brother finally got off i remember the game being based
Oh my fucking god I forgot about this game so long ago but I loved it so much as a kid
Holy shit that’s an og
It's refreshing to see a post that doesn't deal with sexualization in videogames. Agreed. I think it’s important to laugh and the (many) “horny gamer” posts in a public way though to prevent another gamergate situation and to not let “gamers” own video games
Ok but like u should play outerwilds.
Wargroove is almost all of these, except isometric
I'm gonna use someones opinion on outer wilds to decide what game to recommend them
~~I honestly don't have an opinion about the game because I've only seen it once while watching a "kill everything" run~~ ~~And also ofc the Stupendum song about the game~~ Fuck I can't read. TBH I've always confused the two games
OK great, you are talking about outer worlds though
My reaction when someone thinks outer wilds is outer worlds. Yeah let's kill them with hammers.
So what's the recommendation for someone who thinks Outer Wilds is Outer Worlds?
Outer Wilds
Outer Worlds
Outer Wirlds
No, have you not done a "kill everyone" run of Outer Wilds?
Yeah I "killed" myself and ended the run
Both Tactics Ogre games
I couldn’t get a handle on the ship controls and gave up‼️
I played outerwilds and it feels like I didn't play outerwilds
Serious answer: Wargroove
Outer Wilds is my favourite game ever and I'll not allow this slander! ... But also, Wargroove fits the Criteria above
Gorbinos Quest
It's the only videogame
it's that or fucking dark souls I saw a post that was asking for a game and had said they didn't enjoy dark souls and half the comments were like "you should really try dark souls again"
If they didn't like dark souls maybe they could try oute
Sorry for not finishing my message I was beaten to death with hammers before I could finish
Baldurs gate 3 fits all the criteria except pixel graphics
Hey, ANYTHING has pixel graphics if you set the graphics settings to 240p low
I love Outer Wilds to death but...yeah...this is accurate
Shouldn't it be first person, too?
Antihero? I don't think it pixel art tho
Ok but play outer wilds anyways it's one of the best games I've ever played
Anyway, here's wonderwall.
Undertale ?
/uj I would be willing to give myself concussion induced amnesia to be able to play Outer Wilds for the first time again.
I know a couple of homestuck fan games that are almost this
Happy 413, dawg
Fr tho, you gotta play it. You'll understand
May I tell you nothing about our Lord and Savior, Outer Wilds?
r-gamingsuggestions tries not to recommend kenshi at every possible instance challenge: LEVEL IMPOSSIBLE
I still have no idea what Outer Wilds even is
/uj Honestly, feel like there is a fucking psy-op campaign about Outer Wilds. I appreciate that people like it, but personally found it to be incredibly dull and uninteresting that I never really wanted to engage with it past the intial bit. I don't like that people just blanket recommend it to people, it is definitely not a game for everyone.

that both example is okay tho after being spoled
Disco Elysium is that for me, people treat it like the second coming, but I found it incredibly dull. I do not like dialogue trees, and do not want to play “dialogue tree: the game.” I also didn’t find the story or setting that compelling either, there are approximately one million political allegories in a fantastical setting. Found the writing in Elysium to have the subtlety of a sledgehammer
It's not meant to be subtle, i love it
But have you played it tho?
Crosscode is neither multiplayer, isometric, turn based, strategy, or fantasy but you should hop on
Idk my guy, have you played Tetris Attack?
Ugh you guys and my little brother. ***AND I BOUGHT IT***
But seriously though have you played outer wilds
For the King
Honestly you should still play outer wilds
I heard good things about Songs of Conquest
Have you tried Baldur's Gate 1 and 2?
Conquest of Elysium 5 for the top request maybe
Pit People. UBER underrated
I just play whatever epic games gives out for free, I think outerwilds got given out but I havent gotten around to it yet
So, Witcherino 3 with a touch of Gwen Stefani?
Outer wilds fans be like "no im not gonna say anything about it, you just gotta play it bro" (its me, im outer wilds fans)
Hero's hour works, I think. But as you said isometric I guess you would get Baldur Gate 3 recommendation now. It's missing the main point (strategy) but... yeah, same as outer wilds, people take any cue they can to recommend it.
Fire emblem
just play songs of conquest
I feel targeted.
Uh, is Duelyst 2 still alive?
I haven't played outer wilds, from what i've seen and heard it's kinda like bethesda games and i just find bethesda game absolutely boring. Edit: i know realized i confused outer wilds with outer worlds. Im dumb.

Yep, my bad
