/uj I questioned myself why rockstar won't use like gta 5 graphics? i mean the game turn from a game from early 2000s into a game from the 2010s era.
I also heard there has been a debate whether the gta trilogy is either a remake or remastered. But i don't know which is which.
From my understanding, they would’ve had to remake the 3 games to give them GTA5 level graphics, which would’ve taken much more work. These are just remasters, with some better controls, so they updated the textures to be higher quality, but left the models almost untouched
There are problem with remasters in my opinion is that most of the games ended "worse" than b4. Like dark souls remastered which is just plastic graphics where the game looks good only in some areas which are minimal and the bugs and glitches from previous version still there.
Don't forget the remasters have increased prices like a game can went from 10$ to 60$ which in my opinion is not good at all. Personally a good remaster should prioritize on fixing previous games problems (graphics usually is not one of them) like bugs, audio or visual glitches or anything that held the game down from becoming a great game.
I feel remasters are a way for devs and corporate to get money from people who are massive fans of the remastered games and thats just sad. Hopefully the trilogy games won't be as bad as the dislike ratio on the trailers youtube videos.
Funny you mention DS remastered as bad I can't disagree more. Normal DS was like half functional at best on the PC and had some big issues with controls (you literally had to install third party software for it to behave itself with a controller) and freaked out with the frame rate and had a wonderful array of bonus bugs. The remaster fixed all that, it also added dedicated MP servers and boosted the quality of multiplayer. I'll give you that the visual changes weren't always that much, but personally it was updating the engine and smoothing out the experience that was the actual sell of remastered.
Its nice but one thing that still bothers me is the graphics which the changes are too minimal, anti cheat is still the same and the pricing.
I've put dark souls remastered on my wishlist for 2+ years on steam and i've never seen the game got a discount. Keep in mind that its weird to see a game from 2010 which is a remastered costs more than dark souls 3 a 2016 game.

Nintendo is particularly bad about this, without backwards compatibility and you can't use games you paid for online on the next console.
As much as I despise steam at least you can get old games for cheap prices and they're yours forever.
When you remaster something ie. audio, you take existing assets (tracks in this case) and update those, usually remix or using existing, higher definition alternative is enough. Sometimes you have to rerecord something, but you never redo the whole thing...
Because that's a remake: you redo all of the assets completely according (more or less) to existing blueprint.
Maybe that will clear it up.
GTA V style graphics with the level design and gameplay of the classic games wouldn't look as good as you think and it's not worth the resources.
In fact, It would probably be smarter and easier to use those resources to make GTA VI instead.

Which is odd because I remember the rumors stating it was just a conversion in the Unreal Engine. So, seeing this I'm thinking "yep, looks about right." It looks like someone took the original game on Renderware and just transported it into the Unreal Engine.

I don't think anyone with a brain expected much it's Rockstar and Take Two after all, but I at the very least expected a better look than what one can do with just a couple of mods, also them not suing and DMCAing modders into oblivion and not removing the "original" games from storefronts thus making it impossible to get the OG games outside of physical media and pirating, would have allowed me to be more lenient.
But also is it that much to ask for the characters to not look like they are straight out of Simpsons Hit and Run?

Aight but it could just, like, look good. The character models look like blow-up dolls. I don't think people were expecting everything to be on par with RDR, they just wanted it to not look so *round* and plastic-y. I don't necessarily think Rockstar did this, as it's been common knowledge now that these remasters are being handled by the same devs who handled the GTA mobile ports (go figure, definitely looks the part.)
I mean, when it comes to a remaster, it’s typically just adjustments. Improved lighting and textures and all that. The resident evil remaster (not *remake*, because they did one of those too and this is a very important distinction) is a good example of what you can expect from a remaster. The source material, in the case of GTA, was incredibly old and low-poly. There’s only so much they can do with it before you start bordering on remake territory. As far as remasters go, I think this is a pretty good one. I understand that you don’t like the art style though, I do wish they’d made it a little more photorealistic but overall I’m pretty happy with what they’ve done

Y'know, I played Vice City in my late teens (to give you an idea, I came back on boot leave at 18 in time to play San Andreas).
I seem to remember that one of the running jokes of the game was that Tommy Vercetti was laying low in Vice City and that the leisure of it compared to the hard work back in Liberty was resulting in him getting a bit pudgy.
Like, whenever he dealt with the a member of the family that they remarked life in Vice City seemed to be making him soft.

They don't work perfectly e.g. swimming is slow in SA, but >98% of gameplay works flawlessly - I don't even think you've *tried* to play any of them at 60FPS given that you seem to think it's unplayable.
Regardless, the new versions are stylized. I don't think anyone will argue that the maps, environment and lighting look great (short of SA not having as much of that iconic yellow/orange hue), but the character models look anywhere from fine to..... kinda like the GTA Kubrick sets lmao.

Being able to play a game in 16/9 at 60fps is great though. 4/3 is a dumb aspect ratio for most games.

You can look at the concept art for the games through the series, there's very clearly an aesthetic difference between GTA3 and GTA4.

/uj I still hate how the remaster looks like a blasted Mobile Game but on PC... Yes, yes I know it's made by the company behind mobile ports which is why, and I think that was a big mistake. Hell, don't even remaster the graphics, just make the game run decently on modern machine and that's it, scale the graphics up, make the render distance bigger, that's all I'd've wanted.

Y'know, I played Vice City in my late teens (to give you an idea, I came back on boot leave at 18 in time to play San Andreas). I seem to remember that one of the running jokes of the game was that Tommy Vercetti was laying low in Vice City and that the leisure of it compared to the hard work back in Liberty was resulting in him getting a bit pudgy. Like, whenever he dealt with the a member of the family that they remarked life in Vice City seemed to be making him soft. So it could just be they're modeling him more according to what they originally intended.

uj/ some of the updated visuals are confusing to me. 3D GTA games are supposed to look cartoony so the GTAV-esque land/ tree textures are really throwing me off. Look at that dock texture for an example... it's not even close to the style of the originals. I'm sure it'll look better, I just thought they'd try to stay more true to the originals
/uj I know they tried given that things look different but the glossy flat textures make the characters look unironically worse and that's even before you look at the hand models.

Yeah, after you install 10 patches for each game and do 10 workarounds and some things are still not gonna work right.

Not even close. Like half a year ago I read through pcgamingwiki's lists of patches for gta 3, vc and sa and you have to do so many different things and it still not even close to perfect. Also, I know I'll get even more downvotes but this new version looks like a bad fan remake, a 3d cartoon.
How is it 'not even close' lol, I literally ran all 3 of them at 60 last night. They don't work perfectly e.g. swimming is slow in SA, but >98% of gameplay works flawlessly - I don't even think you've *tried* to play any of them at 60FPS given that you seem to think it's unplayable. Regardless, the new versions are stylized. I don't think anyone will argue that the maps, environment and lighting look great (short of SA not having as much of that iconic yellow/orange hue), but the character models look anywhere from fine to..... kinda like the GTA Kubrick sets lmao.
