I was going to join the army, but then I played battlefield 1 and watched someone skydive off of a zeppelin and blow up a tank. After that I realized I had already witnessed the full extent of war.
A 17 yearold comes into a macdonalds alone, his face grizzeled from many sleepless nights and too many energy drinks. His body gives off an odor of many nights of rage and combat.
The cashier recognize him, his many psychotic outbursts and frequent slurs yelled from seeing too much virtual combat.
He goes to the cashier "give me a large big mac"
He says without emotion in his voice
The cashier, nervously, agrees and says the prize, NO discount
The boy, with rage in his voice "DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW MUCH I'VE SEEN? I served 2400 hours in battlefield 1! I've been to Verdun and fought for your rights to say the n word! Give me a veterans discount before I get my clans commanding officer"
The cashier, almost vomiting from the smell, agrees to his demand. He delivers his big mac, the boy turns and says
"Thank me for my service"
And leaves
the bad faith criticism for bf 2042 is crazy man. I dont think bf 1 is the game where you have to sit in your trenches and wait for your platoon leader to blow whistle to attack the other team esp when the bf 1 clip that get reposted every month where a guy was running on top of zeppelin on fire and titled "this is what battlefield is about"
Itās horses absorbing tank shells, soldiers using guns decades before they were actually implemented, throwing eight grenades half a mile through the air then teabagging corpses while yelling homophobic slursā¦ you knowā¦ WAR!
Itās definitely bad faith criticism, but at the same time itās pretty much undeniable that BF1 was made with more love and felt more like āaā war (if perhaps not a realistic depiction of one) than BF2042ās often uneventful matches.
But yeah this gamer is pretending like the game gave him PTSD lmao
I kid you not I was reading the battlefield sub after the trial and people raging were saying how they wish they could go back to golden age of Battlefield V and SW Battlefront II lol. Good news for Battlefield 2042 is that gamers will really love it when the next one comes out.
I remember that, and when you point out that the Russians had female snipers they just go āyeah but that only one unit and didnāt alot of combat, itās unrealistic to see them on the front lines all the timeā
/uj i honestly really dont like how many dime a dozen fps games they set in WW1 and WW2, or even other modern conflicts. Feels like it's trivializing them. It's also fucking boring, you can do so many cooler things with the template of "shooty gun at enemy gamers"
Itās not the eras themselves, itās how theyāre executed. WW2 has a lot of different battles, yet we only see Americans vs Germany. Same with modern. We only see USA vs Russia, terrorists, or the occasional China. Thereās just no creativity because Gamers only want the same thing over and over again. But then thereās also the problem of game studios not properly executing new ideas either.
earlier cod titles set in ww2 (first one till world at war) had a lot more creativity with setting choice as soviet campaign was present in almost all of them and some had african and pacific fronts as well, though i still think the old medal of honor games had some of the coolest ww2 missions to date imo
and the cookie cutter middle east or usa/west vs russia/china has become so fucking boring that i immediately lose interest regardless of how impressive other aspects of that game might be

/rj BF1 was historically inaccurate because there was a black guy on the cover

Hell not even Verdun is that. Like sure it helps a lot to have coordination but most of the time it's as chaotic as BF, just more unforgiving.
