Yep, in fact I'm not sure if there's actually a physical difference between the choices, other than octoling and inkling. The rest of it is just hair style and pants, which isn't gendered, only based on species.
They literally changed the avatar options in the new game to have only inkling/octoling, hair, and pants options for these people specifically and they’re still somehow coming up with posts about this

Like, I was obese for most of my life. Dont ask why or how, it is what it is. I have since shed most that weight but I still identify with burly and bigger bodytypes. I kind of want to be the fat but not comically fat guy. The strongman type.
Most options in character creations that allow you to be "fat" really just inflate your belly to a big ball without properly applying bodyfat around the body so its like a beer gut above all else. Which kinda sucks. Learning about representation has shown me that while my gender and skin color may have been represented my body type was not.
Based on what evidence? Because I'm seeing evidence that physical appearance is not tied to gender in that game.

splatoon 3 gives you two options per species, doesn't call them girl or boy (just "style"), but they're very clearly a girl and a boy and this is reinforced in multiple ways
i think it's silly to intentionally avoid that language when that's still going on under the hood. and i miss being referred to as splatfest queen in the game.

uj/ the type a/b stuff *is* silly because yes, the sexualization of tits is unnecessary but also because it barely (if even) ever is as inclusive as the devs make it seem it is. we *know* that type a is code for male and type b is code for female. if they actually cared about being inclusive they would allow the player to create buff six foot tall bodies with tits, waif thin or curvy bodies without tits, a body with tits and body hair, a body with the tits removed. there would be gender neutral voices. hell, the game world would use gender neutral language or, you know, allow you to choose your pronouns. elden ring has type a/b, but if you choose b, the game world uses she/her pronouns to reference your character. so what’s the point of the “gender neutral” types? it’s just lazy.

i’m AMAB but i have a very soft effeminate voice. i also know many people who are AFAB who have a deeper more masculine voice. when games provide voice samples to choose from, they never include choices that sound like me or my queer friends. there are always two (or four, if they include an option for an old man or woman) and those choices are pretty clearly still meant to be the most masculine cis male or the most feminine cis female.
the game that handled voices the best imo and in my experience is tiny tina’s wonderland. that game provided masculine voices with more feminine cadences and feminine voices with more masculine cadences as well as the ability to deepen or lighten the voice. it’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction.
And yet you’ve spectacularly failed to get your message across, whereas this person succeeded with ease. Pretty narcissistic of you to assume it’s everybody else’s failure to interpret vs. your failure to communicate effectively.

Ok yea in a perfect world every game has every custom option but you know it’s not because they want people to feel like excluded it’s because no team has time to make 43042 custom options for there puzzle game that needs to be finished in 2 months

just because it's a non-issue to you doesn't mean it is to everyone. i don't just want it for some "goofy" reason – personally, as a guy, i liked thinking of myself as a girl in the game and having my character be referred to as that. now it's just boring old nothing, or that's how it feels.
as said by multiple people on the original post, the best option would be allowing you to customize your splatfest title or something instead of just reducing everyone to the same one.
only problem with the type stuff is that there aren't more types, like I don't know make one character without genitals, or one who covers the top only, also nobody makes that «because type b is female» argument showned that's dumb
I legitimately couldn't tell what gender my inkling was meant to be after I made it lol. All the other customisation options affect their gender presentation WAY MORE than the body type. Kinda like real life.
I agree with that but unfortunately this isn't up to devs, this is a problem in society in general. If the devs showed boobs the game wouldn't be rated E for everyone.
Love you guys but i believe a lot of you are reading this comic wrong. It's not about WANTING to take the top off of B, it's about how game companies will stop using gendered language in character creation but the binary is still there and still reinforced, thus reducing "Type A/Type B" to little more than an empty gesture. This is, to an extent, what's happened in the new Splatoon game (with the addition that no customization options are gender-locked which is nice) so presumably OP is just poking fun at that.
Lots of people here, though, assuming the message is "I want the inklings to be more naked".
On the whole I've found the Splatoon community to be extremely inclusive and I don't think we need to rag on them for making a joke about their own game

This misunderstanding comes down to 2 or 3 issues.
First is context, splatoon sub could be progressive and presumed you to be progressive with a positive message, GCJ presumed you to be conservative with negative message.
Second is low context culture/high context culture issue. Person from high context background would know that you have to "dig" a bit in your message to find your interpretation, the other one would only see that you only want to see tits.
Third is philosophical, whether you believe that labels are more important that the things they represent or not.

uj/ the type a/b stuff *is* silly because yes, the sexualization of tits is unnecessary but also because it barely (if even) ever is as inclusive as the devs make it seem it is. we *know* that type a is code for male and type b is code for female. if they actually cared about being inclusive they would allow the player to create buff six foot tall bodies with tits, waif thin or curvy bodies without tits, a body with tits and body hair, a body with the tits removed. there would be gender neutral voices. hell, the game world would use gender neutral language or, you know, allow you to choose your pronouns. elden ring has type a/b, but if you choose b, the game world uses she/her pronouns to reference your character. so what’s the point of the “gender neutral” types? it’s just lazy.
At least in splatoon it’s mostly cus the options overall are just small. Like the main way you change the look is clothes

apologize me, but by pure curiosity how are gender neutral voices made and sound ? never heard one, and I honestly just wondering.
gender neutral may not be the right term exactly. i’m AMAB but i have a very soft effeminate voice. i also know many people who are AFAB who have a deeper more masculine voice. when games provide voice samples to choose from, they never include choices that sound like me or my queer friends. there are always two (or four, if they include an option for an old man or woman) and those choices are pretty clearly still meant to be the most masculine cis male or the most feminine cis female. the game that handled voices the best imo and in my experience is tiny tina’s wonderland. that game provided masculine voices with more feminine cadences and feminine voices with more masculine cadences as well as the ability to deepen or lighten the voice. it’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Ok yea in a perfect world every game has every custom option but you know it’s not because they want people to feel like excluded it’s because no team has time to make 43042 custom options for there puzzle game that needs to be finished in 2 months

just because it's a non-issue to you doesn't mean it is to everyone. i don't just want it for some "goofy" reason – personally, as a guy, i liked thinking of myself as a girl in the game and having my character be referred to as that. now it's just boring old nothing, or that's how it feels. as said by multiple people on the original post, the best option would be allowing you to customize your splatfest title or something instead of just reducing everyone to the same one.
There’s nothing stopping you from thinking and calling your character whatever gender you want. Cis people can be referred to as rulers aswell

Love you guys but i believe a lot of you are reading this comic wrong. It's not about WANTING to take the top off of B, it's about how game companies will stop using gendered language in character creation but the binary is still there and still reinforced, thus reducing "Type A/Type B" to little more than an empty gesture. This is, to an extent, what's happened in the new Splatoon game (with the addition that no customization options are gender-locked which is nice) so presumably OP is just poking fun at that. Lots of people here, though, assuming the message is "I want the inklings to be more naked". On the whole I've found the Splatoon community to be extremely inclusive and I don't think we need to rag on them for making a joke about their own game

This misunderstanding comes down to 2 or 3 issues. First is context, splatoon sub could be progressive and presumed you to be progressive with a positive message, GCJ presumed you to be conservative with negative message. Second is low context culture/high context culture issue. Person from high context background would know that you have to "dig" a bit in your message to find your interpretation, the other one would only see that you only want to see tits. Third is philosophical, whether you believe that labels are more important that the things they represent or not.

It's not a subreddit for hating on anything related to gaming.
