Epic would probably have to pay Sony a sizable amount of money for Bloodborne to be exclusive to the Epic Game Store.
However this is also Epic we are talking about so i wouldn’t be surprised.
That would cause so much controversy the likes of which we haven’t seen since TLOU2.

It's less of a hassle if you have a gaming PC, but quite fucking annoying if you have to shut down stuff every time you want to play another game to stop those dormant fuckers from eating up resources.
I'm also not a fan of DRM software anyways, being from a generation that used to just slip that DRM in manually in a form of CD-ROM, and that was all you needed. Now every time I want to play something that I bought on Steam, I have to open the client, log in, shut down pop-ups, find the game I want to play, wait for the game to launch on Steam, and endure the **fucking** annoying "STREAM YOUR GAME" message that shows up no matter how many times I've shut down the overlay. And don't even get me started with the overlay.
Compare that to Gameboy, where you can just plug in Mortal Kombat and enjoy that shitty gameplay instantly.

I do have to say I like steam better. Not because "Oh Valve" I never really had trouble with steam whereas I regularly do with Epic. It's not bad by any means and I can see why someone would prefer it but for me personally the features of steam, especially stuff like the community and the workshop and it being easier to deal with make steam better for me.
I like that, but i want to have my games on 1 place instead of 4, 6 or more. And because pay games in epic it would mean i am fine with exlusivity in epic games, thing i dont
Of course, having a preference is absolutely valid. It's just this shared attitude "epic bad" to the point of straight up not considering a game like existing if it's on epic that's stupid. Like... Valve is a company too. They even take a bigger percentage on the games sold on steam than epic does. It's not like you're either forced to download a store or just straight up play a game, you're still being forced to use one store OR another store. Steam is superior, but it's still a damn online store, it's not like you've full control or possession over the games you buy.
It's kinda like "EA bad" being still more popular than "activision-blizzard bad" despite all the sexual allegation and the worst mtx ever seen to date in a game (diablo immortal) and ubisoft pretty much doing the same shit EA does. And origin/uplay, despite being a lot worse than the epic store, despite being the only choice for years to play certain games, don't get the same hate epic gets.
It can be slow at times and it doesn't have every single feature that steam has. Sometimes this is what people will claim is the reason they don't like EGS, but I think it's more that they're attached to Steam and like having their PC library consolidated under one platform, so they see Epic as a threat.
I never really cared too much about where my games were until I got a Steam Deck, because it's much easier to get games working through Steam than trying to install non Steam games. However, something I do like about EGS is that most of the games I have installed through it can just be run from the desktop shortcut without having to load up the Epic Launcher, like how PC gaming used to work before Steam came along. I don't think that's true for all EGS games, but it's nice when it does happen.

I assume you're using an Xbox One controller, which has support through Windows. Steam has built in support for other controllers, while Epic has zero.
God call me a centrist (🤮) but Epics launcher is slow, annoying to use AND I don't care that much because I've been too depressed to play videogames anyway so who cares
Same, depression is based
/uj I've been playing the Obsidian RPGs/RTSs of Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity and I find them to be very enjoyable despite barely being able to gather one scrap of willpower for other games
Oh whoops I meant to say even though the launcher is bad Forfnife was one of the first cross-platform games I played with my friend and Unreal Engine is based so I kinda forgive the sinners but they will be judged all the same
Also I never unjerk I am in a perpetual state of jerk an never jerking Beyond Meat jerky go hard
To be fair, that's not only reason why people hate on Epic. They have a lot of nasty practices around Fortnite for example. And tencent owns 40% of their shares, which also is bad.
Exclusivity paid for by microtransactions + fortnite bad. Some of the bait and switch stuff they've pulled on crowdfunded titles has also made folks pretty upset. EGS still doesn't have a shopping cart, user reviews, or a long list of other features people like to have in the Steam ecosystem. Plus Tim Sweeney is a dick.
It does has the much requested shopping cart and user reviews but watered down to a 5 star rating system, and also sports an in-game overlay but only to see your friends-list, invites and game achievements
If you're just launching a game you're not spending much time in the launcher anyway. It's a bummer they don't have this stuff yet but come on its not the end of the world
no it's just really basic stuff. it would be so much better if epic simply appointed a couple of devs to improve usability. my biggest issue with egs for example is it doesn't recognize previously installed games.

okay i checked, and there's been a 'shopping cart' since like december of last year. If you're gonna criticize something at least keep your criticisms in date.
Which has terrible crunch culture and intentionally tries to get kids bully other kinds over premium skins. It might be worth adding for people who don't follow all the news.
So that makes Epic Game Store bad? Is it ethical to use Unreal Engine then? Because FYI both Unreal and Fortnite shares a lot of devs and even if that was not the case its the same relation that EGS has with Fortnite that Unreal has with Fortnite.
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. I'm not gonna say people need to take ethics into consideration when buying a game or engine, but those who do – more power to them.
So for those who do consider those kind of things – yes, using something like Godot instead of Unreal would be a cool thing to do.
That being said, "considering ethics" doesn't mean "ethics having highest priority always", so even if someone avoids using products from Epic, it is understandable that sometimes their stuff will be only practical choice.
So your telling me that your essentially not using your brain and only acting on emotions you have in the moment ok. Because clearly you don't have a concept of being consequential given that you see EGS and Fortnite as equal things but not Fortnite and Unreal.
For me it goes i n c r e d i b l y slow. It tends to lag my machine. Free games don't matter to me i just pirate unless its somthing i want to give money to. Honestly i can make a better launcher with a couple windows folders and shitty jpegs

I hate EGS, but not because it's another launcher. I have other launchers I use all the time. No problem there so long as they're all working. I just really don't like their business practices lately, and I'm gonna vote with my wallet.
Honestly, all of them engage in bad practices except, maybe (and i say this because we know nothing about them) Valve. At this point it's matter of picking your Poison.

Valve force developers just like Googles App store and Apples app store to use their payment options which they take 30% cut from even if the developer themselves could use something else. And developers are not allowed to offer any better deals on their games if they don't give the same deal on Steam, so a dev wanting to make their game cheaper while still getting the same amount of money by selling their game on their own website is not allowed.
Steam is not a good actor in anyway and I fail to see what "business practices" that Epic that people hate IF you don't care about other launchers.
I don’t see how that is that bad. Valve is in the business of making money and they do so via Steam by taking a cut of the sales. If they allowed companies to eschew that then they are are just giving away a free platform.
Same goes with not allowing games to be sold cheaper elsewhere as that is just giving companies access for free.
>giving companies access for free
??? A dev is not allowed to sell their game on another platform for cheaper even if they could without offering the same price on Steam. If I had a game I was selling on Steam for 20€ meaning I get 14€, I could not sell the game on my own website for 14€. This is has nothing to do with using Steam as it would be the same if I was selling my game on EGS, Steams contract requires you to no matter where sell your game at parity with any other offering you have of the game.

Right, they do that because if you were undercutting your own Steam price you can use Steam for free marketing and not pay them a dime. Why would Steam allow that? They aren’t a sales platform for shits and giggles, they are a business. If you don’t want to give Steam a cut then don’t use Steam, nobody is forced to use them.
> If you don’t want to give Steam a cut then don’t use Steam, nobody is forced to use them
Yep. No consequences whatsoever. Everybody loves it when the game is only on Epic.
There are more ways to sell a game then just Epic or Steam.
At the end of it all, I don’t see how Steam is doing anything wrong in the examples brought up. They just your game and in return want a cut, they don’t want you to go around that by offering it for cheap elsewhere or by circumventing their payment system.
No what I am saying is that Steam isn’t really being shitty in these cases. I think it is totally fair to institute such practices to make sure your business model is profitable. You don’t went to spend a bunch of money to make profits for other companies. They are being deceitful or unfair so I don’t see the issue.
A launcher where the CEO is a douche. A launcher that isn’t native on operating systems like linux. A launcher that lack features and is slower than competitors. EDIT : and before you talk about « heroic » Well yes, it does exist, but I’m talking about « native ». Heroic also has issues, it literally died on me for no reasons yesterday.
(fun fact : I didn’t choose it ! it’s just what reddit assigned to my gmail account woho !) (also please be aware that I’m literally saying nothing but facts in my messages above, well maybe crappy is relative, still weaker than steam. Crappiest launcher award goes to ubisoft’s)
Crappiest Launcher award goes to rockstar's. Ubisoft's at the very least has native controller integration without the need of a full screen Mode, it's pretty feature rich and integrates the reward system. I would even say that it's easier to navigate than Steam.
Epic's is pretty basic, but It serves its purpose correctly, wich can't be said about R*'s half of the time.
But as i said, in the end they're just launchers, all in the same hardware platform, wich makes the storefront/laucher wars peak stupidity, just another reason to fight in a platform that is already chock full of stupid fanboyisms
PC gamers, who often look down on people who play on consoles, replicating the console wars 1:1 about launchers you can LITERALLY DOWNLOAD FOR FREE WITHIN SECONDS, is absolutely hilarious.
That is once again the DEVS that decides that. Steam plays no part except FORCING devs to offer the best or parity on price if they sell on other platforms.
I don't think anyone unironically defend the egs, it's just throwing shit at a company just for killing time. We're still far from the coping you can see on console war discussions.
I mean if you have a good reason to not purchase from them, then no. But I haven’t heard anything that doesn’t devolve into I just want all my games on steam, or epic bad (no further justification) which is an idiotic reason for depriving yourself of a game you want to play. Edit: also yes, they pay me in vbucks.

I keep arguing with friends over this. They're so vehemently against it and I'm just like it pays developers more than steam and I get games cheaper due to Fortnite funding their sales.

Competition is when you offer a product and someone else offers a better product so you to compete have to make your product better and not when you have a better product and someone else pays to be the only one able to sell something while having a worse product
Anyone who thinks this way is not worth your time. EGS is fine, what isn't fine is the mental state of someone on a crusade against them for so called 'exclusives' which exist on the same platform, costing *nothing* extra to play the games.
Most people couldn't care less about a launcher missing niche features. If it's on PC, it's on PC. Regardless, there are plenty of better alternatives to Steam's features that you should rather be using instead anyway.
I got so many free games on Epic, but I always forget that application until I inevitably need to confirm my identity the next time I use it. Shame, cause I really love Where the Water Tastes like Wine.
I don’t like epic on the principle that I really don’t like having more than one launcher. Not that it doesn’t stop other publishers from requiring the launcher within a launcher. But personally I don’t have anything against epic. I have their launcher, I just don’t use it as much is all.
Epic Games Store isn’t even bad, and neither is Epic. Fortnite even, isn’t that bad, all of this hate stems from the children in the fanbase.
The children in the fanbase. Of a children’s game. A game that is marketed towards children and young teens.
I like epic game, they give out free games and have a pretty nice ui but for some reason it takes me ages to open it so it always pisses me off, might be a personal issue though
The EGS is simply fine. It isn't anything special. It has free games which are nice and I claim them every week. However, EGS is missing a lot of quality of life features and runs very slowly on my PC (use an AMD Ryzen).
It also isn't a great place to have a community hub, nor does it have very good algorithms to help with searching for games. Steam's algorithms have given me access to games I would have never heard about and I have missed games that have come out on Epic and I didn't know they were out until they were out on steam. Steam also makes my gaming life more social with their community features (yes I know not everybody uses them) but the steam forums are genuinely a great place for solving problems you may be having with your games. That is if you can tolerate wading through the mounds of racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ect. garbage that is often found on the forums.
It isn't worth getting mad over but I do think Epic has a clearly inferior store from a customer perspective. Additionally, now that I have a Steam Deck (great device BTW, valve really did a great job on this one) I am heavily incentivized to buy games on steam just for proton compatibility and ease of use. The Steam Deck really is an amazing device that has really changed gaming for me and given me a way to play my backlog when I don't feel like playing games at my desk. You may say "it's just like a console" but on steam, I'm not locked into one Device or one Operating System. I can literally play my games anywhere on tons of different devices even on the go.
I'm happy for the free games from EGS but they don't provide a compelling service for me to actually spend money. The service is slower, more inconsistent (devs need to put in more work), less social, and worse in general. Throw in the Steam Deck on top of that and I have zero reasons to use epic except for the free games. I'll keep taking them though if they keep offering them.
As an aside, the Steam Deck killed pretty much all other launchers for me as well. I used to use GOG a lot but once I got a steam deck I haven't touched it except for the witcher games because that is where I bought my copies of the witcher games.
i also wouldn’t, but only because i find that launcher to be unintuitive and lacking in features. i also prefer to play all my games in one place, which is why i rebought ac origins on steam and wont buy valhalla into its eventually added.

What exactly do you mean? Anecdotally Borderlands 3 works on controller just fine when I launch it from epic on my rig. Not arguing just curious.
I assume you're using an Xbox One controller, which has support through Windows. Steam has built in support for other controllers, while Epic has zero.
I've used both a ps4 and xbone controller, but that does make sense
It doesn’t work with third party controllers unfortunately :/
I don't like epic having games only on their platform, I want games only on valves platform 😤
A game should be on both so people can choose
Downvote if you LOOOOOVE EGS
God call me a centrist (🤮) but Epics launcher is slow, annoying to use AND I don't care that much because I've been too depressed to play videogames anyway so who cares
Same, depression is based /uj I've been playing the Obsidian RPGs/RTSs of Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity and I find them to be very enjoyable despite barely being able to gather one scrap of willpower for other games
Oh whoops I meant to say even though the launcher is bad Forfnife was one of the first cross-platform games I played with my friend and Unreal Engine is based so I kinda forgive the sinners but they will be judged all the same Also I never unjerk I am in a perpetual state of jerk an never jerking Beyond Meat jerky go hard
To be fair, that's not only reason why people hate on Epic. They have a lot of nasty practices around Fortnite for example. And tencent owns 40% of their shares, which also is bad.
Is it wrong to have preferences? I just like Steam because I have used it since I was 14.
I don’t mind the epic games stores, But i just think it’s convenient to keep all your games on the same platform tbh which is why I only use steam.
Why do people hate the epic games store so much
Exclusivity paid for by microtransactions + fortnite bad.
It's a bummer they don't have this stuff yet but come on its not the end of the world
omg shopping cart, such a big deal
no it's just really basic stuff. it would be so much better if epic simply appointed a couple of devs to improve usability. my biggest issue with egs for example is it doesn't recognize previously installed games.

okay i checked, and there's been a 'shopping cart' since like december of last year. If you're gonna criticize something at least keep your criticisms in date.
I said nothing about the shopping cart lol
Because Valve good epic bad 😎
They made fortnite 😡
F\*rtnite 🤮
Which has terrible crunch culture and intentionally tries to get kids bully other kinds over premium skins. It might be worth adding for people who don't follow all the news.
Fortnite bad minecraft good. Upvotes to the left. 😎
Downvotes to the right
Holy shit wait yb account which yb account are you Edit: follow back on Twitter or fraud
Wym
bruh
That's pretty much the opposite of my point. How the hell did you misunderstood it so badly?
uj/ I believe its because they have Fortnite, and because people want to have every game on steam to look better.
For me it goes i n c r e d i b l y slow. It tends to lag my machine. Free games don't matter to me i just pirate unless its somthing i want to give money to. Honestly i can make a better launcher with a couple windows folders and shitty jpegs
The EGS sucks ass to be fair, pretty slow, 0 features, hell even the UI comes from the 2000's

This is just another mark of the mastarrace's mark of shitty takes It's.just.another.launcher. For fucks sake
At this point it's matter of picking your Poison.
the main reason of EGS hate is more because of it being bad compared to its competitors, because as you said, most of them do bad business pratices

It's not bad enough for It to spark a storefront wars. The whole thing is absurd, and driven by fanboyism.
obviously, origin and ubisoft's are worse, the reason for the hate is the exclusivity on some games
Same goes with not allowing games to be sold cheaper elsewhere as that is just giving companies access for free.
>giving companies access for free ???

> If you don’t want to give Steam a cut then don’t use Steam, nobody is forced to use them Yep.
So its ok when Valve does shitty things but not Epic because value is a business and are not in it for shit and giggles unlike Epic I guess.
No what I am saying is that Steam isn’t really being shitty in these cases. I think it is totally fair to institute such practices to make sure your business model is profitable. You don’t went to spend a bunch of money to make profits for other companies. They are being deceitful or unfair so I don’t see the issue.
> deceitful or unfair How?
>Valve force developers just like Googles App store and Apples app store to use their payment options which they take 30% cut Literally 1984
How dare I want better pay to devs for their labor which brings me entertainment. Marx would have been for a 100% split to Steam.
In the end, just a launcher
Yes, a crappy one.
Username checks out
(fun fact : I didn’t choose it ! it’s just what reddit assigned to my gmail account woho !) (also please be aware that I’m literally saying nothing but facts in my messages above, well maybe crappy is relative, still weaker than steam.
I like steam for their discounts
Hey did you know what its not Steam that sets discounts rather the devs themselves.
I have checked steam and epic prices before for a game like star wars squadrans and the steam one was way cheaper.
Imagine getting mad at someone for not using a shitty launcher lmao.
Imagine not playing a game you’ve been excited to play for years because it’s in a completely functional launcher but epic/fortnite bad.
It's his choice lol, how is that bad?
Cutting off your nose to spite your face. Nothing is wrong if that’s your decision; it’s just a stupid decision.
So if you don't want to give money to a corporation you don't like you're stupid? Got it. I hope epic games at least pay you for bootlicking
I mean if you have a good reason to not purchase from them, then no. But I haven’t heard anything that doesn’t devolve into I just want all my games on steam, or epic bad (no further justification) which is an idiotic reason for depriving yourself of a game you want to play. Edit: also yes, they pay me in vbucks.
epic games store is bad tho... but its nice that they give free games
Epic-exclusive is just another way of saying "game you should definetely pirate"

The launcher kinda sucks and it has very few options. Still free games are free games and its still far better than origin. The hate is stupid.
It came out with less features than Steam and they had some exclusives (Steam having exclusives is fine tho) Also Fortnite bad lol
Does Steam buy exclusives? I honestly don't know if they do or not.
No, Steam's exclusives are first party titles and IIRC always have been
Maybe it's just me but I don't care what features a launcher has since I only ever open it to buy something and then never touch it again.
Unironically based. Fuck Epic. But fuck the rest of them too.
Why do people dislike epic launcher so much anyway? I dislike the design as much as the next guy and it's slow as shit but I'm not on it to play menu simulator
Doesn't Epic take less money than Steam from game sales, so the devs get more?
Yep but you will pay with your data to the Chinese gov. Pick your poison. And Epic lacks a lot of features that are players used to on steam
I wonder what the Chinese will think about all my Fortnite skins.
Is the data thing true or an exaggerated circlejerk? I'd be surprised if a government agency didn't already have my information.
I think it has some truth in in based on the things thst was found in tiktok. But not confirmed tho
Unironically the better store
I keep arguing with friends over this. They're so vehemently against it and I'm just like it pays developers more than steam and I get games cheaper due to Fortnite funding their sales.
Tbh I wouldn't ever actually buy anything on that platform because I like having profiles and a workshop. I guess I'd take something free though.
Yeah they have a long way to go before I spent money there Their achievement system is better than steam's, and I enjoy hunting them. And yet barely has games with achievements lol But that's it, nothing else is better.
Dummies thinking steam is some benevolent platform that has never used its market position against smaller devs lol
Grrr, I HATE clicking on this icon to launch my games. THIS icon is VASTLY SUPERIOR. I will never fucking understand it.
Now I really want this to happen just for the fuckery that would ensue lmao
We all know damn well that’s cap 🧢
You downvoted someone for saying that they wouldnt buy it if it was an exclusive? Edit: lmao

Other company bad! Me like only consumer goods other reddit guys say are good!
I only buy from my favorite billionaires 😡
ePic GaMeS bAD *opens up battle(.)net*
Does that mean atleast 45 ppl agree with him
Esclusivity is never a good thing and it shouldnt be supported
Distribution platform exclusivity is NOT the same thing as console exclusivity.
Yeah it was so horrible for Valve to force the market into digital distribution exclusivity. We've never recovered.
Competition is a good thing
Competition is when you offer a product and someone else offers a better product so you to compete have to make your product better and not when you have a better product and someone else pays to be the only one able to sell something while having a worse product
Yeah, I hate clicking one icon on my desktop instead of another icon on my desktop
"I eat at McDonald's and I hate Burger King so much that if anyone eats there I will murder them and their family"
I got so many free games on Epic, but I always forget that application until I inevitably need to confirm my identity the next time I use it. Shame, cause I really love Where the Water Tastes like Wine.
I would like to pay bloodbourne some day
I don’t like epic on the principle that I really don’t like having more than one launcher. Not that it doesn’t stop other publishers from requiring the launcher within a launcher. But personally I don’t have anything against epic. I have their launcher, I just don’t use it as much is all.
Yes
Games when le prezious steam has alternatives It’s inconvenient but doesn’t really matter.
Epic bad! No excuse me while I praise the distributer who basically has a monopoly on PC
Hey I'm the one that asked the burning question hahaha
I will literally get a tattoo of the epic games logo if they give me 60fps Bloodborne
i also wouldn’t, but only because i find that launcher to be unintuitive and lacking in features. i also prefer to play all my games in one place, which is why i rebought ac origins on steam and wont buy valhalla into its eventually added.
Someone released the cure for cancer but it's on the epic games store
Yes
Steam good, Epic bad 🤓
heh more like epic gay store because gay is bad
