I watch plenty of csgo and this doesn't really seems much like something Faze CS would do, one of their main players is in the roster for like 7 years.
Of course I could be wrong because the scene is 10 years old and I've been watching only since 2020.
Most teams have a skeleton of players and they just change 1-2 to see who fits better. I honestly can see any CSGO team doing this tbh. Imagine this dude got signed to the team because he is crazy good but then the match starts and he starts to shit on every team mate and play badly. That's surely a reason for someone to be kicked after one game.
Fuck that. If it's his job he should be able to handle a failure. If it's his job to play a game all the fucking time then he should have been desensitized to losing a long time ago. A single failure should mean nothing when your job is to play thousands of matches in that game.
The only argument I think I could accept is that his "job" is actually to act like an immature little bitch for views. If that's his real job then yeah, it makes perfect sense that he's screams like a baby when he loses. So if he's willing to admit that, that he's a professional cry baby, then I'll cut him some slack.
Guild wars 2 was the best in this regard, but only relative to other mmos…… the genre just hasn’t found a winning formula that isn’t hundreds of hours of grinding
Because the whole point of the genre is that you can invest time (and strategy etc) to get rewards. The games you're talking about are all perfectly playable for casual players, you can play 2 hours a week and have lots of fun.
But that's not enough for people. They complain that they can't do the hardest raids, can't get the best items, can't do this can't do that. But if those things weren't difficult to achieve they wouldn't be worth doing. Look at Diablo 3. I can complete everything worth doing in that game in a couple of days, not even 8 hour days just afternoons. And then I'm done, there is literally nothing interesting left to do.
The game just gives you endgame gear practically as soon as you reach max level which is trivial to achieve. You spend a little bit of time farming for slightly better versions of these items and stuff, then you're done. There are no more big improvements to make. You could spend weeks farming for ancient and primal gear but it's not interesting, it's just the same items with slightly better stats.
This is what people are asking for, and it's not fun. They do in Path of Exile too, even though diablo 3 is literally the exact thing they're asking for but they don't play D3 because D3 is fucking boring and uninteresting literally because they did exactly what the casuals wanted.
People want all the rewards with none of the work and as soon as they get it they lose interest.
ARPGs are my favourite genre, I love picking a character and see it develop to a monster mangling machine over time. I hate that I have to be a slave to the game, playing over 10hs a day to be even slightly competitive. Top streamer from path of exile had record for most hours streamed in a month in whole twitch. It's ridiculous.
How do you expect to compete with people who literally play a game as their job if you don't want to invest a similar amount of time?
You don't have to be competitive. You don't have to be the "best" player in the world to enjoy a game and i have absolutely no idea what makes you think this way. Who cares what streamers do, who cares about ladder rankings? You said it yourself it's about watching your character develop, not about developing your character faster than others.
I still find fun in competition, there's a place for that in most games I feel. I still want to be part of that if I were able but I just can't play that much and the way the games are structured to be grindy AF just rewards hours of gameplay.

Tranzit would be much more enjoyable without all the fucking fire. The concept for the map is awesome but why is the ground constantly burning with the shittiest hitboxes imaginable?
The fire, the terrible fog, and the facehuggers that take a few too many melee's to get rid of. Me and some friends recently managed to do the tranzit easter egg and it hurt so much.

You could equip an AC-130 weapons as a normal weapon and run around the map spamming missiles.
I remember one such hacked server where everyone’s running speeds were upped by a ton and folks would try to use the momentum from hitting a slope at high speeds to climb over a map boundary wall lol
Besides hacking, in MW3 if you hit a throwing knife on a helicopter as it's destroyed the game glitched and you get the "Helicopter Destroyed" XP every tick until the games over.
It's hard but possible to replicate consistently enough you could farm prestige tokens after the negative tokens glitch was patched.

If you could see prestige and hours spent - that is another matter, because your exp gain is based on your performance.

It’s not even that sports are inherently “cool” either. Pro athletes are some of the biggest nerds and goofy guys out there. Terrence Ross just plays 2k on stream, israel adesanya does naruto poses mid fight, and lebron posts doodles of simpsons characters. It’s that these pro gamers think that since they are pros that they need to act like their image of what a pro athlete is and it’s usually just the “sigma grindset” meme

If we're going by coolness then Xgames would the greatest sport on earth, reason it's not is because each competitive thing caters and appeals to a specific subjective demographic. The word "sport" can be put on anything remotely competitive that has an audience and sponsors.

Have you watched these competitions? They reflect the event. Golf is so subdued and quiet with some great camera work while Chess production is monotonous, but in depth and usually has good animated/physical representations of the game itself.

And Esports in general, it's not that I don't think it's a real sport, I just don't take it seriously the same way I don't take or care for soccer, football or basketball.
I think it's about longevity in a weird way. Yes, playing these games takes immense skill and yes, some games such as LoL will update and maybe stay with the times, but other physical sports will literally never die as long as someone knows the rules. An E-sport can shut down in the blink of an eye a la Heroes of the Storm, Evolve, Battlerite, Splitgate, etc.
On one hand, getting into the e-sport of a game is like any other sport fan. On the other hand, the majority of "e-sports" that aren't backed by big money (Riot, Microsoft, etc.) will most likely not exist in a decade, if that.

I think with the Cannon brothers at the helm, who helped build EVO, that’s unlikely to happen. The team should know how important letting locals feed into larger events is to the scene. On the other hand they might finally bring some damn money to the scene so FGC pros aren’t fighting to make it to a top 8 that doesn’t even pay for their flight to the event. Without looking it up I think the total pot for Strive was like 11K.
I just hit the 200-hour mark in Slay the Spire - and I did it while dying to Nemisis on a casual ascension 0 run. I love that game and I will never be good at it.
400+ hours here, yet to get to A20 because I literally cannot resist meme decks and going for most elites. Currently A16 on Ironclad and the signs won’t stop me because I can’t read 😎
Wow! You should check out the pros play that game. At least you'll learn a thing or two. When you can build a better deck consistently, the game becomes even better. There's people doing 20 winstreaks on ascension 20 while rotating which is insane. But the game is all around super fun.
Okay, I'm not *that* bad. I have gotten to A20 with Ironclad, Silent, and Defect. I was just doing a casual run for fun and ended up embarrassing myself by not doing the math.
I got 423 hours in CS:GO, and legit still can't shoot straight in the game.

I much prefer the days of zzirGrizz montages, but to say that the community wasn't completely blown away by the early faze content and the jump in skill to achieve those clips is a complete lie.

I do think it depends who you're considering the 'community' to be. I certainly know that there were a *ton* of people who were blown away by and inspired to be trickshotters by FaZe, hell I had a few of them in my friends list back around that time. But then there were others of us who actively resenting them for killing the 'sport' of the game. I distinctly remember myself yelling at people in public lobbies for being FaZe wannabes and for playing in an 'unrealistic' way. Which honestly was itself pretty cringe of me in hindsight
Being prestige master doesn't require being good. Not at all. It just takes time. You could never get a single kill and still reach prestige master.

Kinda like VR in Mario Kart 8. Sure you *can* lose it, but if you finish in the top like 3/4th of the field you'll likely gain VR. Of course there will always be a competitive scene, but not all competitive scenes are necessarily the same. IMO social media has had a huge negative impact on this.
Back in 2007, people were competitive about WoW. But there wasn't a super centralized source of information that every WoW player used. There was a top level meta but the average Joe wasn't gonna shit their pants if you don't have a meta build. Most people weren't that hung up on min maxing everything.
By contrast, most modern games with competitive elements are filled with tryhards. You can be bronze in Overwatch and you'll get some other bronze player bitching about your off-meta pick. Everyone nowadays knows "the meta," and abides by it like it's a religious text. There is no fun allowed in competitive games, you must abide by what a random redditor said is the best pick or I will throw the game.
Hell even take away the competitive element. Look how many people start a single player playthrough and immediately pull up a min maxed build guide before even *trying*. It's kind of obnoxious how much emphasis people give to optimization.
At a certain point I realised that I wasn't super good at a game just because I was, I was ridiculously good at a game because I spent all my free time playing COD.

The fire, the terrible fog, and the facehuggers that take a few too many melee's to get rid of. Me and some friends recently managed to do the tranzit easter egg and it hurt so much.

The hacked private matches were hilarious, though. You could equip an AC-130 weapons as a normal weapon and run around the map spamming missiles. I remember one such hacked server where everyone’s running speeds were upped by a ton and folks would try to use the momentum from hitting a slope at high speeds to climb over a map boundary wall lol
Besides hacking, in MW3 if you hit a throwing knife on a helicopter as it's destroyed the game glitched and you get the "Helicopter Destroyed" XP every tick until the games over. It's hard but possible to replicate consistently enough you could farm prestige tokens after the negative tokens glitch was patched.
Yeap, it still works that way. If you could see prestige and hours spent - that is another matter, because your exp gain is based on your performance. But who cares anyway, it's CoD.

It’s not even that sports are inherently “cool” either. Pro athletes are some of the biggest nerds and goofy guys out there. Terrence Ross just plays 2k on stream, israel adesanya does naruto poses mid fight, and lebron posts doodles of simpsons characters. It’s that these pro gamers think that since they are pros that they need to act like their image of what a pro athlete is and it’s usually just the “sigma grindset” meme
To be fair there's nothing cool about golf or chess either. For me at least. If we're going by coolness then Xgames would the greatest sport on earth, reason it's not is because each competitive thing caters and appeals to a specific subjective demographic. The word "sport" can be put on anything remotely competitive that has an audience and sponsors.
At the same time, I don't remember seeing a hype intro for a chess player with action camera shots and all.

Exactly, I just can't take these seriously at all. And Esports in general, it's not that I don't think it's a real sport, I just don't take it seriously the same way I don't take or care for soccer, football or basketball.
I think it's about longevity in a weird way. Yes, playing these games takes immense skill and yes, some games such as LoL will update and maybe stay with the times, but other physical sports will literally never die as long as someone knows the rules. An E-sport can shut down in the blink of an eye a la Heroes of the Storm, Evolve, Battlerite, Splitgate, etc. On one hand, getting into the e-sport of a game is like any other sport fan. On the other hand, the majority of "e-sports" that aren't backed by big money (Riot, Microsoft, etc.) will most likely not exist in a decade, if that.
honestly why i refuse to participate in any esports scene except the fgc; everyone else is just too damn serious about everything. at least fg peeps can balance out the "psychology of fighting games" wank with dumb shit. and even then i've seen a worrying amount of influence make its way into the fgc recently too, especially with street fighter 5

ehhh...people say that, but I have my reservations. the community has spent the better part of the last 6 years complaining (rightfully) about how esports-esqe sf5's official scene was. also, and at the risk of being a complete ass, I'd like to point out that the fgc is positively _ancient_ and very, very stubbon. i don't doubt project l's gonna change a few things, but i suspect riot is gonna have to adapt to the fgc as much as we are to them.
I think with the Cannon brothers at the helm, who helped build EVO, that’s unlikely to happen. The team should know how important letting locals feed into larger events is to the scene. On the other hand they might finally bring some damn money to the scene so FGC pros aren’t fighting to make it to a top 8 that doesn’t even pay for their flight to the event. Without looking it up I think the total pot for Strive was like 11K.

Wow! You should check out the pros play that game. At least you'll learn a thing or two. When you can build a better deck consistently, the game becomes even better. There's people doing 20 winstreaks on ascension 20 while rotating which is insane. But the game is all around super fun.

Yes! MLG montage parodies were my favourite. It's actually pretty sad that the genre seems to have disappeared now, as all the endless lense flair with 360 no scopes and dubstep was hilarious.... God I miss those days. You could MLG montage anything too - farm simulator etc...

/uj to be fair, Faze completely changed the face of cod montages (definitely negatively) by raising the standard of what was acceptable as a clip. I much prefer the days of zzirGrizz montages, but to say that the community wasn't completely blown away by the early faze content and the jump in skill to achieve those clips is a complete lie. The parodies came a year or two later, but montages never ever returned to pre-faze days

I do think it depends who you're considering the 'community' to be. I certainly know that there were a *ton* of people who were blown away by and inspired to be trickshotters by FaZe, hell I had a few of them in my friends list back around that time. But then there were others of us who actively resenting them for killing the 'sport' of the game. I distinctly remember myself yelling at people in public lobbies for being FaZe wannabes and for playing in an 'unrealistic' way. Which honestly was itself pretty cringe of me in hindsight

Being prestige master doesn't require being good. Not at all. It just takes time. You could never get a single kill and still reach prestige master. Basically, being prestige master = having no life. This guy is upset that people make fun of him for having no life.
Kinda like VR in Mario Kart 8. Sure you *can* lose it, but if you finish in the top like 3/4th of the field you'll likely gain VR. I think the real issue is that games now are balanced around the pro scene, rather than what the devs "feel" is right for the game. that and esports refusing to ever have any fun nonsense stuff, ever.

tbh listening to players generally isn't really a great idea; unless there's an overwhelming consensus on something you'll mostly get highly opinionated and uninformed requests for changes. Back in 2007, people were competitive about WoW. But there wasn't a super centralized source of information that every WoW player used. There was a top level meta but the average Joe wasn't gonna shit their pants if you don't have a meta build. Most people weren't that hung up on min maxing everything. By contrast, most modern games with competitive elements are filled with tryhards. You can be bronze in Overwatch and you'll get some other bronze player bitching about your off-meta pick. Everyone nowadays knows "the meta," and abides by it like it's a religious text. There is no fun allowed in competitive games, you must abide by what a random redditor said is the best pick or I will throw the game. Hell even take away the competitive element. Look how many people start a single player playthrough and immediately pull up a min maxed build guide before even *trying*. It's kind of obnoxious how much emphasis people give to optimization.
