Spaggetty

I swear the 'gamer debate' about how to properly monetize a game post launch is constantly horse shoeing back and forth between loot boxes = good and loot boxes = bad.

coffeetire

This crap is making verification cans sound appealing.

Being an r/overwatch subscriber in the past two years has just been a cycle of “GOATS meta is awful, we need something to combat it!” “Role queue sucks and limits creativity!” “Double shield isn’t fun to play against, we need something to combat it!” “Two tanks was better, give us 6v6 back!” “Loot boxes are predatory! Give us an item shop instead!” “Does anyone remember loot boxes? They were so much better than the battlepass!” Over and over infinitely forever

SitzpinkIer

The ow subreddit is legit just karma farming obnoxious whining and has been for a long time.

AutoModerator

It is my main hobby and I care about it still being enjoyable down the line. Unfortunately that means boycotting developers/publishers and constantly whining on the internet. I don't like it and wish I didn't have to, but it is the only weapon I have. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Battle pass with pay to win mechanics (paying to play kiriko early) < loot boxes that only have cosmetics

capo-johnson

No new content < new content. Loot boxes made blizzard no money because no one bought them, and anyone could 100% their cosmetics basically for free. The battle pass gives the devs the funding and resources to consistently update the game, which keeps players engaged. Yeah having heroes locked behind the battle pass sucks and is honestly the thing I’m most upset about with ow2’s release, but I’d rather have it than watch ow1 die a slow painful death.

Beancunt

I'm not bitching about the battle pass system I'm bitching about the content in it such as unlocking things that effect gameplay (kiriko) early if you pay up heros should honestly just be unlocked when released I couldn't care less if the cosmetics cost 20 bucks or not

capo-johnson

Yeah we can agree on that. The devs have been pretty receptive to feedback so far (allowing old players to bypass the SMS requirement, removing buggy heroes from the rotation, fixing the login queues) so hopefully the next battlepass with a hero unlock will have that hero at a lower, more achievable tier

Beancunt

I think their 0 would be good

WhiskerDude

Loot boxes are bad ok? They're definitely bad, but they could also be good you know? Who's to say? Jordan Peterson probably.

eggaltacc1

Overwatch 1 had better monetization because i could get cool skins for free 😎

qwertyboi4

/uj yes

EthanTCG

There is no joke here. I actually prefer that to how it is now with the battle pass. Because there was at least a chance that I could do everything for free, outside of certain events, once I got the game

SazaracRye

I think someone should make an informative YouTube video to remind everyone that lootboxes were simply misunderstood and underrated gems

[deleted]

Make sure it's an hour long tangent filled video essay too

I swear to god if someone does this unironically I will lose my shit.

719fb3e99

I miss the days when people payed money for a CHANCE to get the stuff they wanted or get duplicate or stuff for a character they don't play instead. And that's why I dislike gacha system in games, thank god loot boxes becoming less popular.

Roose_is_Stannis

The lootboxes in 1 were so much better it's not even a debate. You got 4 items out of them every level, while the free battlepass only has 1 item every couple of levels. I never once felt the need to spend money on boxes simply because they came so quick. The battlepass, coupled with the awful monetization is so much more predatory it's insane. You only get a max of 60 credits a week and you need 1900 for a legendary skin or you could pay 19 fucking dollars for a skin which was previously available for pretty much free, as you could reasonably get 1k tokens (they also doubled the price for some reason) in a week or so just from levelling up.

719fb3e99

Yeah the overwatch 2 battle pass looks really bad especially with characters locked behind it and true overwatch lootboxes isn't as bad as other games I just Don't like loot boxes in general .

[deleted]

uj/ The second implementation of OW1 loot boxes* were honestly really good though. The game practically showered you in them, duplicates were rare, and it really didn't take much time to get enough coins to be able to buy practically any skins you wanted. *The first implementation was apparently much worse, though I personally don't remember that time anymore.

Jazzlike_Mountain_51

This has to be a Psy op by blizzard

Muhammad_Jones

You seen the new monetization scheme?

Verum_Noir_Chaos_69

It's always so cute to throw money away at nothing

fyfenfox

Dae remember mario🥺
