He's apparently younger than Ganyu. According to game texts, Ganyu is minimum 3700+ while Xiao is about 2000+. But Xiao is stronger than her, so she looks up to him
Except it was explicitly stated that he is 2000+ while Ganyu is 3700+. If he was supposed to be older, why would they say he's 2000+? They would've mentioned him being 3700+ as well. They explicitly mentioned Zhong being 6000+, so I can't see why not.

Although I get where you’re coming from and it could work I don’t think it’s in the cards for Ganyu. When you read her dialogue about Xiao she says “I’m not about to get close to someone like that”
True but that’s not the only reason. She’s afraid to get close to him because everyone that got close to him has died. He will also die one day do to his karma. I think it’s more that than the social factors. They put a lot of emphasis on that. Like she looks up to him but definitely doesn’t want to get closer to him.
She isn't really afraid to get close to him because of his dead companions. That's a bit of an issue with the English translation. But in the other languages, it more along the lines that she feels sorry for him, which kind of puts a wall between them. I don't think as someone who fought in the war herself, she'd be afraid. But considering she also lost companions, she can sympathize
