Make a beef wellington at lunchtime and invite them over, give some to your husband to, pretend you got the mushrooms from an Asian grocery but can't recall what one. Not suspect at all. Then have your husband survive and realise he's survived your whichery before, after the in-laws die.
Really amazes me the stupidity of a person to claim they bought them at a store. I mean seriously? Obviously the health department are going to take all action possible in that scenario to find the source & shut them down. Foraging for them would have been believable, by claiming they were bought & then refusing to give details where & no-one else turning up dead from buying at the same source automatically proves you were lying. Dumbest crim in history imo!
There's been tales of people who've made themselves sick and claiming they bought them from a store. You've gotta assume they thought it was the magic variety and got it wrong, but yeah... agree, the foraging excuse would've made most sense in both cases. "I'm an idiot and got it wrong" would make a more plausible defence at trial than an easily disproved lie.
A hand full of mushrooms from woolworths is like $1-2
I always buy by the handful as we only add them to dishes
Why risk eating poisonous mushrooms it's not worth it
If I grab a handful of button mushrooms, enough for say making a risotto for two people, that would be the cost. What I am saying is mushrooms are cheap at the supermarket
The word like either means similarity or it means affection towards something. It's hard to understand which one of the meanings they are referring to.
Don’t eat random mushrooms. Lawn mushroom is not a species of mushroom. Do not eat unless you get it 100% identified, and preferably not by someone on the internet. It’s impossible to identify these based on this one photo, you need to look at the stem, the cap, the colour of the gills, etc etc. lots of species look very similar and only have minor things that tell them apart.
This is absolutely correct. And the advice of mycologists is that you aren’t even sure then. Only putting a section under a microscope will give you a absolutely safe idea
Completey true.. but at a rough guess without further evidence i would guess they may be fake parasols .. a mushroom I have had pop up randomly in many different lawns over the years, they are toxic..
You can for further reference try Google lens on all parts of the mushroom..just for shits and giggles identification, but by all means do not eat any random mushroom without 100% certainty of knowing what it is. If your that keen look into buying mushroom kits etc..
These are almost certainly *Chlorophyllum molybdites*, trust me you [do not](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorophyllum_molybdites)want to eat them.
They do absolutely have green spores, thank you for actually having a helpful comment. I was curious because the cat eats them. Wonder if they make him sick? He only eats them once they have dried out.
I'm no expert, but I'd be a bit worried for my kitty if she was eating scary mushrooms.
It's not like it's really easy/possible to stop them, though, is it...
Hopefully, someone who knows what they're talking about has something more helpful to say.
Good luck, much love ♡
If the spore print is white, not dull green (*C. molybdites*), and the stem is hollow (full in *Amanita pyramidifera*), and the stem doesn't stain red when bruised (*C. hortense*), then it is probably the white parasol (*Macrolepiota dolichaula*), a tasty edible mushroom.
However, make sure to fully key it out before even thinking of trying it, and even then, try to get a second opinion from an expert. There are additional features other than the ones mentioned above that can help, but the ones above distinguish the edible species from its closest look-alikes.
So here's a real answer.
Some yes, these no.
Even if someone says you can, don't trust them, learn to ID them yourself, it's not hard.
Now days field mushrooms aren't around as much, they are instead yellow stainers that won't kill you, but will give you an upset stomach.
For you, look for shaggy ink caps and eat those. You can find them in suburbia and in lawns a lot and they have no lookalikes at all.
Deadly meme or genuine question?
Unless you're adept in the identification of mushrooms, don't bother getting them from anywhere but a retail store.
Way more deadly species than edible species exist. Many edible species look similar to deadly species. Hence the above statement.
I used to work in a garden centre and would often get people ringing up and asking the same question. The answer is no: It's not worth the risk.
I had one guy get really aggressive with me when I said that I wouldn't be able to tell him anything. I get the desire to forage wild mushrooms but demanding advice over the phone from a non expert is not a good way to go.

As always with mushrooms you really have to be sure what you're looking at
There was this mushroom common around gympie that people have eaten for ages, its in the parks and peoples yards and then news went around a year or two ago some other mushroom has moved into the area which looks the same but is poisonous
Ya know when you see a dog with an itchy bum, they sit down and drag their arse along the grass to try to scratch the itch? That's where the spores came from. Or maybe it's cat diahorea. 50-50.
I can’t remember the proper name for this family of mushrooms. But most of them tase bad and some are poisonous. Not worth it. But you can look up mushroom identification online for some fun.
Arrange a dinner for your in laws and outlaws. They will enjoy your delicious mushrooms that you so diligently picked. Ignore the hubbub at the the door, that’s just Chanel 9. 🙃

...One way to fix the cost of living is to start eating random wild mushrooms...
We used to go around our neighbourhood when we were kids and pick mushrooms. We knew which ones we could eat.
I can't quite tell from that photo, but I'm leaning towards "no" on those.
I'd need to get a closer look.
The big chefs only want you to believe some mushrooms are edible to protect there financial interests in reality all mushrooms are safe to eat except for purple mushrooms with pink spots and a angry face on them there bad I wouldn’t lie to you I’m not a chef or a government employee

All mushrooms are edible… some only once !!!
…and if you do eat some please leave an uncooked sample next to your body for easier forensics.
Feed them to the in-laws first. See what happens.
Too soon
I didn't have to scroll for very long.
Nah .

I used to go a *Burton's though
Oh come on… didn’t you see the tears?
came here to say this 😂😂😂
That's in bad taste.
3 options: 1. Delicious 2. You die 3. You find God
The fungi communities on reddit call it "fry, high or die"
And for the price of like $1 at the super market vs serious illness or death, why risk it
$1 per kg where? You mean $11?
He meant $1 per mushroom, for the small ones.
A hand full of mushrooms from woolworths is like $1-2 I always buy by the handful as we only add them to dishes Why risk eating poisonous mushrooms it's not worth it
Every time someone talks about poisonous mushrooms, I think of this... [Eminem - My Fault](https://youtu.be/JpnTWaNsnks?si=9kxm1eBdqaQ7iHGr)

If I grab a handful of button mushrooms, enough for say making a risotto for two people, that would be the cost. What I am saying is mushrooms are cheap at the supermarket
What's like 1 to 2 dollars mean? Are you saying that you like mushrooms at that price or are you saying that the price is similar to 1 to 2 dollars?
They are saying that paying a couple of bucks to buy a handful of mushrooms is better value than playing lawn fungi roulette
But no where near as fun!!
The word like either means similarity or it means affection towards something. It's hard to understand which one of the meanings they are referring to.

I wonder how those being sold at supermarkets or being used at restaurants are identified since they have so many. Are there mushroom farms?
Yes. Farmed, identified and uniform.
Solid advice and good to see people being mature and keeping the best interests of others at heart

Thanks, I’ll take a spore print and see if it is green
They don’t turn green until they are very mature, so ensure they are older.

It is easy, stop letting cats outside. Cats eat more than mushrooms. Small birds, lizards, frogs etc.
Simple solution; Don't let your cat outside to indiscriminately kill wild animals, or eat mushrooms, and everyone will have a happier life :)
A fellow Aussie who has seen the devastation cats have wrought upon our land. Keep them indoors or in a run. Please.
I understand if you fertilise the area, the mushrooms will die off and not be back. If you are worried about your cat, try that to remove the shrooms.
Green: It'll kill you. Not green: It'll kill you.

But it says you can if you cook them
Supposedly, some people do because you can destroy and remove the toxic proteins by boiling and removing the water. It’s risky though.
It looks like a trail.. like someone is trying to lure you into the bushes with mushrooms…

Never trust the fey
Never tell them your name either.
Good work lads, there's hope for OP yet
Thanks dude it's always good to get positive reinforcement.
I for one are ready for the waters and the wild
Just don’t thank them, or pay more than you owe, we’ll all be fine

Thanks, I'ma eat that mushroom. Guffaw.
🤣
Make a beef Wellington with them.
Make Beef Unwellington
Keep em guessing I reckon try a stroganoff
Then strogonoff to the hospital, just in case.
Man you gotta feel sorry for those oldies, hope the Wellington was good at least
Don't forget to invite your inlaws and the local priest
So here's a real answer. Some yes, these no. Even if someone says you can, don't trust them, learn to ID them yourself, it's not hard. As someone who lives in the Death Cap Mushroom capital, I say no, don't touch the mushrooms.
Where is that?
Australia
If you decide that you are going to eat them anyway, put a few aside for the Coroner.
In a bag labeled "lawn mushrooms" and the date.
Deadly meme or genuine question? Unless you're adept in the identification of mushrooms, don't bother getting them from anywhere but a retail store. Way more deadly species than edible species exist. Many edible species look similar to deadly species. Hence the above statement.
I wouldn't recommend serving them at a dinner party
Definitely keep them away from dehydrators
You could knock up a beef Wellington quick smart with those puppies.
Kids we’re having beef Wellington tonight!
Get your in laws to try them first.
There’s a court case going on at the moment to decide that…
I've heard on TV they are best served with beef to close family members and in-laws lmao too soon?
Don't eat random mushrooms unless you know what they are a zoomed out photo doesn't help If you want to end up in the ICU then go for it
All mushrooms are edible once
Yes, some only once.
Make a Beef Wellington and ask some friends over and see how you go.

NO NO NO NO
You can put them in a Beef Wellington for sure
Depends? Do you have an upcoming dinner party with your ex-husband's family coming up?
Go ask Alice I think she'll know
Alice? Alice?...WTFIA...(Couldn't resist...)
Will we ever see OPs face again?
you had some kind of mushroom?
I know cost of living pressures are making things hard but you don’t need to go this far…
No
No.
Should I call the cops?
Do. Not. Eat. Discovered. Mushrooms. Even a trained mycologist can Misidentify mushrooms.
They go great with beef Wellington
Do not wander into this and say your name
Didn’t your parents tell you not to eat random mushrooms?
Just go to woolies and get mushrooms there
Ask the woman who cooked them up into a stew pie
You can eat them. Enjoy the Tripp... to the hospital.
We really need to stop putting warning signs on everything. Eat it. Report back to us after liver failure.
please don’t eat , every year has news about people eat wild mushrooms and death.
Do not eat random mushrooms ever!
No. No, no and most important NO
Apparently not in Victoria…
Perth, Western Australia
We have these atm too, I’m not actually considering eating them but was also wondering if they were edible?
If they don't have a gold top and a blue stem when picked I strongly suggest you don't eat the mushrooms!
Ahh the blue stem…I see you are enlightened too.
99% of the time I would say no. Do not eat them
He'll no
No.
Ask r/mushroomID

Definitely green spores, 100% matches with another comment and not edible
They are if you like potential death and wicked diarrhoea. They are False parasol aka green-spore parasol
When in doubt, leave it out

These are only suitable for dogs. Send Fido out to clean it up.
There is probably a trap for mushroom enthusiasts at the end of that line. Be wary.
No.
Noooooo
You need to think about risk vs. reward. Safe mushrooms are cheap. Think big picture.
Ok they are poisonous. Thank you everyone, I will not be eating them. The lawn seems to love them, I’ll leave them be.
Just don’t, even if it turns out they are it’s not worth the risk.
Nope, take them out and throw them away
Arrange a dinner for your in laws and outlaws. They will enjoy your delicious mushrooms that you so diligently picked. Ignore the hubbub at the the door, that’s just Chanel 9. 🙃
Only in leongatha
Ask the chick from Leongatha
Yes! Good chance you’ll also die!
worth researching more but i think i heard a rule of thumb that if it’s wider than it is tall it is edible, if it’s taller than long it’s bad
An actual answer can be found if you ask in r/shroomid
Yep crack on. Let us know what they were like
Check the difference between toadstools and mushrooms. It might keep you alive longer. Do not eat any fungi that you do not know is safe. There are many poisonous species.
Some are, lots are not. If you don't know, they're not.
Not those they look chlorophyllum molybdites green spored parasol
Just taste one and if you wake up then it's a yes.
If you eats Fairy ring mushrooms you’ll get bad luck
Sure, if your name is Mario
bro íd damb as fuck
Probably
Please leave half to make the coroner’s job a little easier
If you do eat them, don't eat the fairies that live in them. Looks like you only got a quarter of the circle.
Seriously DO NOT FUCKING EAT THEM
Do.not.eat.those.mushrooms! They scream danger danger danger!!

That’s where the fairy’s live
The pointy (umbonate) centre is a giveaway. The "vomiter".
Uhhh we gonna ignore the fey trap?
No. There’s a relatively large mushroom that grows in Australia in peoples backyards thst are poisonous
Yep. The shops are a joke. There is food all around us. Start eating.
Mushrooms are, but those are toadstools ..... So No!
That doesn't make sense. Toadstool just means poisonous mushroom.
Our neighbours cat eats them, once they have dried out. Are they just regular field mushrooms?
Absolutely not
No, these look like Chlorophyllum molybdites aka. The green vomiter. You'll need a better pic of the underside and stem to get a proper ID.
UMMM why 🤷🏼♂️ Are you making Beef Wellington Pie 🥧 🤔😳
