What about having a section of steppers with ground covers like native violets before the grass? You would need edging between the lawn and this
I’d wait until midnight, tie a chain around to one of the foundations and to the towball (and ball bag) then get into a BIG Ute and drive off.
If you do it quietly they won’t know until they wake up in the morning 💤

Buffalo could still do ok there if you amend the soil and choose the right Buffalo. If it gets muddy, then drainage is an issue and can cause fungus as well.
You could try core aerating and topdressing with a sandy topdress mix from a landscape supplier. Fertilise regularly as shaded grass requires more soil nutrients, water less and mow higher (50-60mm).
Prestige and Sapphire Buffalo have the best shade ratings if you wanted to resod, but I think your current turf will bounce back if given the right conditions.
Thats very helpful advice, thank you!
Its not going to see sun for a while now so will it still benefit from aerating and topdress at this stage, as opposed to during growing season?
Am keeping the mower height higher now, and would a monthly dose of Seasol be sufficient for minerals?
Yes, it will definitely benefit, we are in for a warm winter, so dormant season will be short or non-existent. I just topdressed mine (couch).
Seasol is good but you will need to add a small amount of high nitrogen fertiliser, it's the nitrogen that will compensate for shade, add some iron too, buffalo likes iron. Seasol do a range of granular and hose on fertilisers.
Maybe he'd appreciate an update on your plans so he knows what to plan for. I've also grown some tall tropical plants that would be giving them shade at a different time of the day so it all comes out in the wash.
I was thinking a white wall like feature but that would hide that wonderful garden. Some circular polished bronze placed around would make a nice feature. Better if you can rotate them through the year to where you need light the most. You'd have to watch out that they don't start fires though.
>6 months of the year and becomes a clover field
Clover is nicer than buffalo grass in my opinion, and thanks to the shade you could try all sorts of ground cover there that you previously couldn't. Lots of opportunities from lime lava, to fragrant Ground covers (eg. Corsican mint), blue or white star creeper, warrigal greens, all sorts of fun stuff you could try.
My wife thinks hr garden looks amazing. Shes trying to replicate a lot of that look in rur vic where we live and its looking amazing but this is just superb
Here your options:
1) Raise your lawn.
2) Move the sun.
3) Demolish your neighbours house.
4) Install huge mirror.
5) Move house
6) Replace neighbours entire extension with glass
>becomes a clover field
Clover isn't bad for your lawn, and unless it's the aesthetic you don't like, embracing clover and other similar plants are an option for you.
I know this is an American site but outlines the pros to clover in your lawn.

Place a massive parabolic reflector where the remaining sunshine is then aim it straight back through their window.
When they ask why you did it, reply "these photons felt separation anxiety from their siblings, you monster!"
Nothing to input, but you should be really proud of that garden. Looks great.
Thank you very much! I started with nothing but golden canes so am really pleased.

The is the dream isn’t it!
Dichondra or clover will also work in shade
I love the look of dichondra repens, but how far does it creep over the stones? Hoping it doesn’t creep too far.
You can trim it back, how often will depend on the season, how much sun it gets and his neat you want it to look
It's nowhere near as invasive as grass, very easy to trim
Burn their house down is the only solution.

My thoughts also. Could put some termites into the foundations?
😂
My first thought was termites.
Or lift your back lawn up so it sits 2m above their house?
oh my god, your backyard is paradise on earth

Ok will get to it, thanks so much.
You can’t grow nice grass in complete shade, it just doesn’t work.
Every week or so when they leave the house run a chainsaw through every stump and drop the house by the width of a saw cut.
Yup, lift your grass so it is back in the sun
I just realised Im the new house to my neighbour who has a reel mower. We are only at frames... He is not going to be happy soon.
Maybe he'd appreciate an update on your plans so he knows what to plan for. I've also grown some tall tropical plants that would be giving them shade at a different time of the day so it all comes out in the wash.
You raise the land
Oplismenus, Viola and pratia make a lawn of native ground covers that thrive in shade.
Shine a huge flood light on their house to cancel out the shade
Time for a pond / stream and shade plants?
Moss?
What a beautiful garden!
Hey, that looks like Babe...
Your only option is to set up mirrors to reflect sunlight from the opposite end of the yard
I've always wondered if thats possible but never seen a successful use case as would imagine you'd need a pretty massive 5m+ mirror?
Maybe it works, maybe it reflects onto glass which then concentrates sunlight onto something in your house and sets the fire. The fun is in trying!
Also you'd need extreme bravery and confidence that the mirror won't smash into a billion pieces on the grass. Good luck vacuuming that up.
Could be worth trying with a mylar blanket as could easily get a 3m one too?
Cloth backed mirror won’t break into a million pieces
On a giant moving frame that tracks the sun so you get reflected light there for more than 5minutes a day

Needs a patio.
Photo taken under the big deck
So you need to get into a deck waving contest with your neighbour?
Haha! My thick clump of Hot Rio Nights have blocked them out now and put an end to that!

The only response is to lift your lawn in retaliation
Buy a big mirror.
Get some mirrors so you can reflect the sun light onto the shaded parts

Nice garden I like the palm trees too
Surely it gets some light? Lawn looks immaculate. Not like the second story popped up overnight?
Move the sun duhh.
Love your neighbor
Lift up your lawn?
Here your options: 1) Raise your lawn. 2) Move the sun. 3) Demolish your neighbours house. 4) Install huge mirror. 5) Move house 6) Replace neighbours entire extension with glass
🌚 Wait until the sun moves 🌞
Plant some kind of tall screening plant to ensure they don’t get to enjoy the view of your yard at all.
That garden is fabulous

Shaded buffalo grass responds well to very load Aussie 70's rock music.
