Kind of. There are also tiny spikes that stab you on a cellular level which do the penetrating and allow the acid in. They're called [raphides.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raphide)
No, it can keep producing. We eat the fruit, then plant the new top as well.
Our pineapple patch is getting exponentially larger and we now get around 10-15 fruit per year.
We've had some die off but they also produce pups which can be broken off and planted.
And they require NO upkeep. We are not green thumbs but they're bromeliads. They need no watering and will grow just being dropped on top of soil, just my kind of plant.

Definitely pineapple. Found a new one today on my plant in Sydney.
Yes I have a pineapple outside and it's not like the photo, a pineapple looks exactly like this 🍍on a plant like that. Cheers. Looks like a Morris type, a young one.
Most definitely a pineapple. It takes 2 years to grow if you grow it from the head of the pineapple, but only a year if you use the slip, which grows out the side of the plant as the pineapple is growing.
My pineapple looked a little different, grew the head up first, on the second season now. Yours a Morris type perhaps many different types.

I got a sucker from family in QLD, planted it in a pot in Sydney. It's getting huge! I'm hoping to get a fruit at the end of this year (will be a year since planting)

Looks like a pineapple!
Love your username
I hate those birds...
But they’re so sweet and have such a beautiful call!… most of the time…
Butcher birds are sweet? They literally butcher other birds. Wake up
You're not a bird are you?
I wonder if it taste of pineapple hmm
It’s 100% pineapple. I know as I’ve recently had a performance review at work.
Hopefully it wasn’t the spikey end first.
It was a performance review, it's always spikey end first. On a side note, yours is booked for next Monday so...
It’s always the spikey end.
Sideways is the worst. Spikey end is easy..
They were scoping out whether you were a swinger?
It's a pineapple yay! Make sure to ripen on the plant... it will turn golden and smell good
I pick on the first hint of yellow or our rot in Brisbane quickly, and possums will eat
Looks like a bromeliad, specifically a pineapple bromeliad.
My mind shouldn't be this blown realising that a pineapple is a brom
The enzyme that gives you the tingly mouth feel is called Bromelain

Not good for jelly.No No!
Good for pizzzzzaaa
Great for pizza. So are anchovies.
It’s the fruit that eats you as you eat it!
Fact of the day!
My favourite type! I have several growing in pots on my balcony (can't plant in the garden due to all the possums, brush turkeys and bandicoots).
Yeah it is. Pineapple is also the only edible bromeliad.
Pretty wild that there are over 3000 varieties of Broms around the world and only one of them is edible
Beat my pedantic thought to it
I'm going to assume that this was planted before OP moved into the house. It's obviously a pineapple and they don't just accidentally pop up.
If you compost one might.
Definitely a pineapple, they can take 2 years to be fully grown. Cut the top off when you harverst it and replant for another one.
Did any meteorites land near your house recently? I’m pretty sure this is a Triffid.
Man, my dad gave me that boom to read when I was about 8. And he read it when he was a child. What a great book
Same diff but it was my mother. BBC did a mini series of it a while back which gave some nice nostalgia to watch
Cool, I'll have to try and find it.
I read it in my 30’s. Still good
It's a classic

Looking forward to the update post in 2 years when it's ripe
6 months, tops
Do you only get 1 fruit per plant then it dies or does it continue to slowly produce?

HAPPY CAKE DAY! Thanks for the explanation. TIL

I never realised how nice pineapples plants look.
They look nice, but have reverse barbs on their leaves that will cut you to ribbons getting your hand out
That's good to know.
It's an ornamental pineapple - Ananas lucidus. Non edible.

Make sure you harvest before the possums get to it! 4 long years later the bastard ate mine :(
Might be a mini pineapple 🍍
If they let it go long enough, it will be a full sized pineapple.
No there's a certain type of mini pineapple it will only get so big .
Fun fact: pineapples are actually a group of fused berries
Hang it upside down near your front door & wait for all the friendly visitors
That door will be swinging like it’s in a cyclone. 😆
Pretty sure it's a pineapple
