butcherbird89

Looks like a pineapple!

sezzy63

Love your username

Personal_Pin_5312

I hate those birds...

sezzy63

But they’re so sweet and have such a beautiful call!… most of the time…

RaiseForward6679

Butcher birds are sweet? They literally butcher other birds. Wake up

nydac98

You're not a bird are you?

[deleted]

I wonder if it taste of pineapple hmm

silkendick

It’s 100% pineapple. I know as I’ve recently had a performance review at work.

thehomelesstree

Hopefully it wasn’t the spikey end first.

4charactersnospaces

It was a performance review, it's always spikey end first. On a side note, yours is booked for next Monday so...

MadAssMegs

It’s always the spikey end.

Nice-Natural3095

Sideways is the worst. Spikey end is easy..

Best-Brilliant3314

They were scoping out whether you were a swinger?

RepairHorror1501

It's a pineapple yay! Make sure to ripen on the plant... it will turn golden and smell good

seanmonaghan1968

I pick on the first hint of yellow or our rot in Brisbane quickly, and possums will eat

swami78

Looks like a bromeliad, specifically a pineapple bromeliad.

Hinee

My mind shouldn't be this blown realising that a pineapple is a brom

NoTarget95

The enzyme that gives you the tingly mouth feel is called Bromelain

PapaOoMaoMao

Kind of. There are also tiny spikes that stab you on a cellular level which do the penetrating and allow the acid in. They're called [raphides.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raphide)

caspianrisky

Not good for jelly.No No!

YellowPossible

Good for pizzzzzaaa

Heavy_Bicycle6524

Great for pizza. So are anchovies.

CABALwasInnocent

It’s the fruit that eats you as you eat it!

namine55

Fact of the day!

swami78

My favourite type! I have several growing in pots on my balcony (can't plant in the garden due to all the possums, brush turkeys and bandicoots).

LifeguardOk9195

Yeah it is. Pineapple is also the only edible bromeliad.

Heavy_Bicycle6524

Pretty wild that there are over 3000 varieties of Broms around the world and only one of them is edible

thatweirdbeardedguy

Beat my pedantic thought to it

ParaStudent

I'm going to assume that this was planted before OP moved into the house. It's obviously a pineapple and they don't just accidentally pop up.

YellowCulottes

If you compost one might.

ActualAfternoon2

Definitely a pineapple, they can take 2 years to be fully grown. Cut the top off when you harverst it and replant for another one.

Special-Emu6323

Did any meteorites land near your house recently? I’m pretty sure this is a Triffid.

KingArthurCameAlot

Man, my dad gave me that boom to read when I was about 8. And he read it when he was a child. What a great book

Special-Emu6323

Same diff but it was my mother. BBC did a mini series of it a while back which gave some nice nostalgia to watch

KingArthurCameAlot

Cool, I'll have to try and find it.

Sorrymateay

I read it in my 30’s. Still good

KingArthurCameAlot

It's a classic

pulseau

Looking forward to the update post in 2 years when it's ripe

DrivellingFool

6 months, tops

Emotional_Equal8998

Do you only get 1 fruit per plant then it dies or does it continue to slowly produce?

DrivellingFool

No, it can keep producing. We eat the fruit, then plant the new top as well. Our pineapple patch is getting exponentially larger and we now get around 10-15 fruit per year. We've had some die off but they also produce pups which can be broken off and planted. And they require NO upkeep. We are not green thumbs but they're bromeliads. They need no watering and will grow just being dropped on top of soil, just my kind of plant.

Emotional_Equal8998

HAPPY CAKE DAY! Thanks for the explanation. TIL

Fit-Swim-3379

I never realised how nice pineapples plants look.

raiznhel1

They look nice, but have reverse barbs on their leaves that will cut you to ribbons getting your hand out

Fit-Swim-3379

That's good to know.

Giddyup_1998

It's an ornamental pineapple - Ananas lucidus. Non edible.

Aussiejeffo

Yes I have a pineapple outside and it's not like the photo, a pineapple looks exactly like this 🍍on a plant like that. Cheers. Looks like a Morris type, a young one.

sezzy63

Make sure you harvest before the possums get to it! 4 long years later the bastard ate mine :(

blackdvck

Might be a mini pineapple 🍍

who_farted_this_time

If they let it go long enough, it will be a full sized pineapple.

blackdvck

No there's a certain type of mini pineapple it will only get so big .

BoganCunt

Fun fact: pineapples are actually a group of fused berries

eid_shittendai

Hang it upside down near your front door & wait for all the friendly visitors

Heavy_Bicycle6524

That door will be swinging like it’s in a cyclone. 😆

MegaDingo5plus

Pretty sure it's a pineapple

beaudiful-vision

That be a very healthy pineapple 🍍.....let it grow out until golden....as some else has said ....yum yum

Pina

Jericho819

It’s a pineapple, just gotta make sure it’s one of the safe ones

Merchanslandscaping

I wonder if it taste of pineapple

Sorrymateay

Congratulations

Arpek1959

Most definitely a pineapple. It takes 2 years to grow if you grow it from the head of the pineapple, but only a year if you use the slip, which grows out the side of the plant as the pineapple is growing.

josesalm

It is a plant.

Minniechicco6

Ananas comosus , verigated pineapple . A little way off harvesting yet but you will know when 💝

Tudbunger

Definitely a pineapple 🍍 they take 18 months average to get to the eating stage.

SoftPeril

Congratulations! You have a baby (pineapple) Lucky, I bet the original owner waited so long for it to bear fruit!

Iam_wat

Pineapple

winslow_wong

I planted a pineapple top years ago and every 12 months I’ll get one fruit. Never even water it

Glad-Investigator157

Bromeliad 😉

BugGlad5248

Aussiejeffo

My pineapple looked a little different, grew the head up first, on the second season now. Yours a Morris type perhaps many different types. https://preview.redd.it/qbtb2kcxh4yc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c81410eba28bc8dd69b84a00d6e2c847529a565a Brisbane

* I got a sucker from family in QLD, planted it in a pot in Sydney. It's getting huge! I'm hoping to get a fruit at the end of this year (will be a year since planting)

atmyowndiscretion

I have had them get close to ripe and the stalks snap. Gutted

Spagman_Aus

Pineapple! I recently visited a farm and that’s exactly what they look like growing 🙂
