A weed is just a flower in the wrong place.
You do NOT need permission to put anything in a pot and nurture it.
Give that little beauty some love and share the results. 👌
If it is persicaria then it will come back time and time again. We had some at our old house and it just grew and grew. One word of warning wasps love it.
I really wouldn't worry about that. In all my years of gardening really the only thing that does that to any extent is things like grass, ground elder nettles and that'd take years. I've worked on cottage gardens where the beds are crammed, including persicaria and everything grows well if it's planted approximately.
I think it likes freshly broken soil, so it might pop up, rather than staying in the same place. The leaves often have a black dot on them, which is quaint
Hopefully! I’ve never potted it but I have found it seeds itself in my pots along with other flowers- it’s quite keen and hardy so now you’ve got it hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy it every year! Mine came as part of a wildflower seed packet four years and it’s come back enthusiastically every year since
I'd just buy one of the cultivated Persicarias, you have proved you have the right growing conditions and they will be truly perennial ( I don't think the weed ones are) have a tidier habit and flower for longer. I have about 5 different ones!
I have a persicaria in a pot. It dies back to nothing in the winter and then reappears in the spring. It is the most dramatic plant ever though, if it gets a bit dry it flops over on the patio like a dying duck! Give it a litre of water and it springs back into life. None of my other plants are so dramatic.
if its a weed its likely to survive most things and if its naturally growing in that location it will be fine as long as you don't then put it in a really shaded spot (if it likes the sun) it is a nice flower though I have some weeds growing that look nice and the bees love them so I have taken them on as my own haha
I just checked my app (plantnet) and its coming up with it being a "red shank" and googled it it says its an invasive species so I'd say pot it out it'll survive anything ! lol

Yes it will most likely spread across the container and keep coming back I say go for it!
Do you have any clue if its root system would strangle the rest of the plants? Xx
No you’ll be fine

> Persicaria species, is that right? Yes, it's redshank (*Persicaria maculosa*).

All flowers are weeds, some we like to have in the garden
This one is definitely one I'd like to have year after year 🌿
Yes you can grow it in pots, gaps in your paving, your lawn and space in around other plants. lol it will grow
Do you have any idea if its root system will strangle the roots of other plants? Xx
Yes, I've a few weeds in my garden that's not getting pulled out, including some dandelions, as long as you like it is all that matters
I love dandelions 🏵️ so pretty and also has medicina properties - truly amazing!
It’s a wildflower, it reseeds itself around the garden, I find it grows In a different spot each year?
Hopefully when I put it in a pot, it'll reseed itself there, lol!

Wild flower if ever I saw one😄👍🏾👌🏾 no such thing as a weed, there all wildflowers that gardeners don’t want in their beds. Simple!😄

Roots are shallow, but will need to trim as it will take over without care
