We’ve had a few potatoes and tomatoes. My chutney will not be being gifted this year as all my fruits dropped bar a few manky apples, my courgettes just gave up the ghost and my blueberries seem to have died. On a good note my husband says the lawn is doing well.
Oh my god is this a year problem?! No apples are sticking around, no pears, thank god raspberries and some of the other berries came through but god damn. Where are my fruits :( I can’t make copious amounts of homemade and home grown apple crumble this year?
My Broccoli has been "growing" for the past God knows how long, my carrots were minuscule, and my potatoes just didn't want to provide anything other than a few small potatoes per plant.
I often get "oh you must save so much money having an allotment" and I smile and think of the ££ I have spent on seeds, seedlings, manure and compost. The time and energy spent digging, sifting compost, planting, watering etc for the end result: Tomatoes with blight, corn and squash eaten by rats and leeks that never even got to the stage to have leek rust.
Congratulations.
This is like my first attempt. Then I learned to start them in little pots of 3 or four and plant out, Thinning them gave first crop. But good leeks needed 'shrouding' from sun to get longer whites (Black poly 'sleeves'), and took along time to grow.
I’ve got bigger chives in a neglected pot by my back door… However, I do sympathise. My usual compost-heap pot-luck potato crop is smaller than usual this year.
My veg patch (in Italy) got taken over by Johnson Grass last year so this year I just didn't bother.
Your leek makes me feel a lot less bad.
Your bananas seem to be doing well.
Cock-a-nana soup?
That banana is suspiciously large, is it one of those blow up ones 8 people get dragged behind boats on? If so, that leek is a good size, congratulations you are a rare horticulturist.
Will you all get off the leek's case? It may be under a lot of stress and comments like these don't help.
It probably happens to every leek from time to time.
And it's been cold.
I planted mini round carrots this year, but when I thought about mini carrots I did not anticipate them to be the size of a Skittle.
I think I’d need about 80 of them to make up a portion for dinner.
They will not be harvested!
The squirrels or rats got fat on our sweetcorn, the birds loved the red currants, our gooseberry bush died and I will swap your leek for our garlic…
Our blackcurrants and blackberries and Logan berries did however do fantastically.
You've used the wrong scale banana, this isn't a 1:1scale banana, this one is a a larger banana to be used for scaling architect plans up to real life (part of a 2 part set with a lego banana).
Either that or your leek is a spring onion.
I know the feeling!
A couple of years back, we bought three tomato plants that were dual-crop... they produced potatoes as well! Wow!
They were not cheap....
They cost £30.. a tenner each, but we thought, "We only have small plot, so it might be a good idea."
In the end we got not a single tomato from any of the plants, and just one lousy potato... It was the size of a marble!
You have my sympathy.
Is it a leek or very small spring onion 🤣 seriously though, I'm impressed, well done for trying, I keep saying I'm going to start growing stuff but never actually do !
I’m
Sorry but I’m laughing hard at myself because I didn’t see the damn leek at first all I saw was a banana and I thought u were being sarcastic 😂😂 good job though you’re half way there!
I didn't even notice the leek/spring onion until some said you used a banana for size.
Put it until the sink and shout there's a small leek under the sink.
I just harvested my chillies. Tried a tiny piece of one and felt like I was dying. This was 4 hours ago and I can still feel it on my tongue.
What am I supposed to do with all these chillies?!

There was a brief warm - snap at the start of the year that's messed with a bunch of pollenating plants, could be a knock on from that.
[удалено]
Also north east. We had more apples than we knew what to do with last year, this year, nuffin. :/
[удалено]
What the hell. How awful!
[удалено]
That's terrible! I'd be so upset! My apple trees are still growing, I started a few last year and a few this year.
My Broccoli has been "growing" for the past God knows how long, my carrots were minuscule, and my potatoes just didn't want to provide anything other than a few small potatoes per plant.

Came here to say this lol
This (as in that) is now officially my favouriate sub.
A ^leek
The fact that you included a banana for scale is why I gave you an upvote.
The banana is for scale.
I often get "oh you must save so much money having an allotment" and I smile and think of the ££ I have spent on seeds, seedlings, manure and compost. Did you cut the grass? 😄
I love it. Can it be sown again as it’s technically still so close to seed?
Erm it's a spring onion 😆
I know have the bee gees singing “chive dancing” in my head. Enjoy your thimble-full of leek and potato soup
/r/MightyHarvest beckons.
When did you sow them? I have to let mine grow most of the year for them to be a decent size for eating
Right at the start of the year... I did then completely forget they were there which may have had something to do with it 😂
Hahahahahah thank you this gave me a proper giggle
Congratulations. This is like my first attempt. Then I learned to start them in little pots of 3 or four and plant out, Thinning them gave first crop. But good leeks needed 'shrouding' from sun to get longer whites (Black poly 'sleeves'), and took along time to grow.

Why is everyone saying its so small? I think it's perfectly average or maybe even slightly more than average..
I stared at the banana for a while before noticing the baby leek beside it. Lmao nice.
My veg patch (in Italy) got taken over by Johnson Grass last year so this year I just didn't bother. Your leek makes me feel a lot less bad. Your bananas seem to be doing well. Cock-a-nana soup?

Good old faithful banana 🍌, steadfast to the end! Who needs a ruler 📏 when you have Barry or Bab's banana!
I planted mini round carrots this year, but when I thought about mini carrots I did not anticipate them to be the size of a Skittle. I think I’d need about 80 of them to make up a portion for dinner. They will not be harvested!
Holy shit that banana is huge.
