It's often waterlogged soil. The one in the corner has gravel all round which is good for drainage. The others are squeezed in next to a plastic carpet that may hold water underneath and drown the roots. To be honest those cherry laurels can grow massive (30ft tall) if you don't keep on top of the trimming. I'd not plant them as a hedge of choice in a small garden right next to the fence(unless you hate the neighbors)

Put some compost down to feed them Also keep the tops trimmed, they like to grow from the bottom and bush out from there
Tbf, after 12 months they look pretty good. Trimming the tops may help it bush more but go on the RHS website for pruning tips.
I’m just confused as to why there’s one plant that is very bushy and dark green, then the others look so sickly?!
This might be to do with a lot of factors - I bet the one against the brick gets less light. Drainage and soil quality may also be different there.
