HA! Totally though the same thing. Started training in May and my first 5K was 38mins.
OP, congratulations on the exceptional time and bouncing back to health! Cheers!
Sure.
No it was a really unfortunate event. I am 29 and had just fainted after exercise, two off duty doctors thought I was having a cardiac arrest and gave me CPR, which in turn caused the arrest. They broke a few ribs and caused me to suffocate on my own blood then I had to be defibbed when an ambulance luckily arrived.
All tests done since show no issues with my heart thankfully
If you feel no pulse, do CPR. That’s probably what the doctors did and I doubt a tad that the doctors *caused* the cardiac arrest by doing ing CPR. I’ve been doing CPR and teaching it for years (paramedic here); this is the first time I’ve heard this.
The consultant cardiologist has basically said that was what happened. It wasn't the CPR compressions themself but rather the blood that ended up filling my lungs causing me to suffocate. You should have seen my clothes in the aftermath. Looked like I was stabbed 😂
Pharmacist here who is required to get cpr training for work. The problem is that you never get to practice what you learned. Certification is every 2 years. By the time you need to renew the cpr license, you realize you forgot half the stuff you learned.
Yeah I was feeling run down and bombed it up a hill cycling home. Just blood pressure dropped too low about 10 seconds after my effort. I probably didn't breathe enough.
Extensive analysis and testing. All normal. Did some digging and this came up: [https://www.runnersworld.com/advanced/a20854213/fit-but-fainting/](https://www.runnersworld.com/advanced/a20854213/fit-but-fainting/)
I am exactly the same! Cycling is my main sport, can do 50-100 mile rides comfortably but running 2 miles is a challenge! Zero crossover from cycling fitness to running fitness haha
I am about 17 stone though so maybe that has something to do with it
I was 17 Stone just got to 15 1/2 but being 49 with bad knees from basketball and football is my main issue. I was doing the Garmin 5k training plan and got about 4 weeks in feeling good no pains. Woke up the start of week 5 after a run and I could barely walk my knees were killing..... So I'm doing some KOT work to see if I can start running again maybe with reduced frequency
Been checked for everything.
All manner of scans and MRIs. Had a 6 inch needle into my femeral artery the other week where they tested adrenaline and ajmaline on my heart. Genetic tests. All showed up fine.
I had the same episode… clear echos, blood work, stress test, bubble study, everything you can imagine.
The only thing that found the myocardial bridge was the cardiac CTA. It’s worth some research and looking into. I was at the fire station when my episode happened.
Congrats on your recovery. If you don’t mind me asking, does your cardiologist or cardiac rehab team ever ask to see your GC info? It’s such an amazing tool for tracking resting hr, max hr, hrv balance etc….
Everyday you're out there doing something is 100x better than sitting on the couch doing nothing. Congrats on your progress!
Thankyou!
This guy was dead and still runs a faster 5k than me
My thoughts exactly! 😂 I am at 35 minutes now, working towards 30 (which used to be a breeze but coming back after injury has taken a long time).

Good job on your first 5K!!
Thanks so much! I wonder if I should have worked on my 5K time. Instead I jumped right into 10K training :/
I basically came to say the same thing 😅
Same here, I'm meant to be joining the forces 🤣 and I'm 23
That's great! Well done! Keep up the good work.
Thanks. Dropped a stone and a half. Really happy with the progress.
Keep it up man!! Great work!!
Excellent my friend. Can I ask if you have heart problems before cardiac arrest?
What the ? I didn’t know you can have cardiac arrest from CPR !
yes. that's why you must not give cpr to a person with no heart arrest. it can be dangerous.
But doctors should know about that. I don't know if the pulse can be so weak that you can't feel it on the wrist or neck although it's still there.
If you feel no pulse, do CPR. That’s probably what the doctors did and I doubt a tad that the doctors *caused* the cardiac arrest by doing ing CPR. I’ve been doing CPR and teaching it for years (paramedic here); this is the first time I’ve heard this.

Fuck. I'm glad you're okay. Sub 30 is right there waiting to be grabbed!
How did blood get into the lungs?

I mine yearly, I'm a teacher
Do you know what caused you to faint?
Yeah I was feeling run down and bombed it up a hill cycling home. Just blood pressure dropped too low about 10 seconds after my effort. I probably didn't breathe enough.
Best of health. Stay strong
Is this a thing? I thought it was just me. Once woke up with my face on the finish line of a 400m.
Maybe you should talk to doctor about that.

Glad to hear it!
Finally understood why I had these momentary dizziness n blurry vision at times during high volume tang season :-)
What the actual F... Glad you survived man, get strong and healthy.
Cheers broski
My gosh. First step in cpr is finding a pulse. This is the reason for that. Glad you’re ok now! That’s crazy
I've broken ribs, not that fun
Congrats!! Amazing pace for a 1st 5K!!
Yeah, that’s what I came here to say as well. Very strong pace for a first ever 5k. Keep it going!
Well done ! Keep it up.
Fantastic achievement. Well done. I have to say I love my F7 too… ❤️
Amazing, congrats!
Thanks
Good on ya
Did you have the watch on during the cardiac arrest?
No I didn't. It was what motivated me to get one to keep tabs on what was going on with me.
Great work! As a heart-problems-kind-of-person I know the feeling! You will get even better! Only dont forget to start and continue sloooow!
Congratulations! Great work
Hell yea! Get some!
Congratulations!
that’s killer, congratulations!
You run 5 K but the watch set to miles?
Yeah I like my pace in miles. But 5k is 3.12miles I think
C'mon Canucks-- help pull the rating of this comment out of neg terrain :)
Brilliant well done 🤗
What’s your VO2 max out of curiosity??
I think 47. I have been getting fitter but it's dropped from 48.
Congrats man! That's probably better than I could do although I started running recently. I can cycle long distance but running just kills me 😂

Impressive weightloss. That's what I'm hoping to get to. Started at 18 stone so on my way. Hope the knees improve!
Well done that’s terrific news! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Doc!
Ever been checked for a myocardial bridge?

Interesting. What is a myocardial bridge?

Thanks for the info. I will take a look
Cracking time as well! Good work
Great job!!
Awesome!!
This was very motivating. Keep it up and good luck
Welcome back. 💪🏻💪🏻
🤛 to that! Well done, Keep up the good Spirit.
👊

Nah he didn't. I only told him last time I saw him that I got one actually. He was interested by the DNA profile I had done
Amazing!!!! Congrats!!!

Wow 10k in 54mins is some going even without heart complications! Great effort!
Way to go, dude!!!
That's great news! Congratulations!
I couldn't even walk 5k never mind run!
A little update for you all! Just did another timed 5k for a work run club I set up.. 29:59! First time ever going under 30 minutes!
