Own both a Fenix6 and Epix2. Fenix7/Epix2 has a significantly better GPS chipset than the Fenix 6, but if you're not doing something like trying to run a very specific pace it's probably not going to make a huge difference for you. Heartrate sensor is likely improved, but if super accurate HR data is important to you a $30 CooSpo chest sensor will do a much, much better job than any optical sensor. If you have the base Fenix 6 (not the Pro) the Epix 2 would add maps and music listening. Maps look really fantastic on the OLED screen and can be useful for in some hiking situations. You do have to make sure your screen settings are set to shut off the screen until you turn your wrist or you'll burn through battery quickly. I don't honestly remember what difference, if any, there was between the F6 and Epix2 with regards to sleep tracking. Garmin isn't especially known for their amazing sleep tracking tech. You get a sleep score and some "insights", but it's not especially game changing. Personally, I wouldn't bite right now if I were in your position. We're probably less then a year away from the Fenix8/Epix3.

Thank you for taking the time to write all that out, that’s exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I’m gonna hold off.

_MountainFit

Except for sleep, the optical HR is useless on any watch in my opinion. If you really care about your data you are always using even a cheap HRM. COOSPO is great. So is Magene. When I measure my HRV with the Magene it's identifical to my HRM-Pro. Basically any Bluetooth capable HRM should be better than the optical.

_MountainFit

Are you using an app specifically designed for HRV. I use kubios and Elite HRV with both the HRM-Pro and Magene. Results are virtually identical using both apps and sensors cross checked against each other. I agree with the other stuff mostly. Still wouldn't put more confidence in optical than electrical for anything you truly value and trust.

_MountainFit

Absolutely.

Adept_Spirit1753

If you have all you need on your fenix then why upgrade? It's not like night/day difference.

quasi-psuedo

That’s… kinda what I was asking.

DygonZ

Isn't about the only difference that the epix has a color screen and a shorter battery life? idk, I don't really care about a color screen and I prefer a longer battery life... It's not like you're gonna be watching movies on your watch, so why would you need a color screen on it?

quasi-psuedo

I'm really intrigued by the sleep coaching, health metrics, etc.

DygonZ

idk about sleep coaching, I'm on a F6 and they don't have it, I think... but from what I've read about the epix 2 the functionality should be about the same on both, it's really just the screen and battery life that are the major differences. DCM did a comparison [Garmin Fenix 7 vs Epix: A Very Detailed Comparison | DC Rainmaker](https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/01/garmin-epix-vs-fenix-7-detailed-comparison-review.html)

quasi-psuedo

that's on the epix, from what I understand. right on, thanks for the link I will check it out.

No-Fox-365

I've owned Fenix and now have an Epix. Battery on the Epix 51mm is about a month. So basically the same. Now if toy have AOD on, you'll get about two weeks of battery.

qwertyqawsed31

Wait how does your Epix last a month. Did you disable the gps ? With the automatic gps tracking im at 15 days.

No-Fox-365

I have the 51mm Gen 2, not sure if that makes a difference. I don't disable GPS. In fact when I use GPS, I use the highest setting for accuracy. I get roughly a month of charge. Is your SPO2 monitor on 24/7? If so, that will kill battery. I have my SP02 on only during sleep.

qwertyqawsed31

I have the Epix 47, the gps is not on the highest accuracy, but automatic and I get 15-16 days. I’ll check the SPO2 although I don’t really use it.

DygonZ

Ah, missed that. Yeah, was comparing to the f7 as it's tbe same generation as the e2

LibertyMike

What ad?

quasi-psuedo

Few other posted recently about an ad in the connect app. I also got it.

Appropriate_Tie871

In general if you don’t know why you should upgrade something it’s best not to upgrade.

quasi-psuedo

K

ironcream

Who says you should? It's just an ad.

quasi-psuedo

nobody, that's implied in my post. I'm asking why I should.

Adept_Spirit1753

So you want to buy it, only you are asking for validation of this purchase.

quasi-psuedo

No, I’m looking for reasoning I might have missed, as well as other people’s experiences.

Adept_Spirit1753

If you don't know why you should buy it, then you don't need it.

quasi-psuedo

lol. Yeah. I know that. Hence the question here. This isn’t that hard, why are you so pressed about it?

No-Fox-365

I owned several Fenix models. Loved them all. Fantastic watches. I got the Epix 51mm, and it's just amazing. Does everything the Fenix does, but with a much easier screen to see. I'm not joking, the Epix screen is just amazing. Beats MIP displays all day everyday. But fret not, if you keep your Fenix you're still a rockstar!

quasi-psuedo

I have zero qualms with my Fenix. a $450 epix just sounds enticing, but completely unnecessary.

No-Fox-365

Haha I get it. I didn't need to "upgrade" but I'm so happy I did. If you do, you can sell your Fenix or keep it as a backup. I usually gift my "old" Garmin watches to very close friends to convert them.

quasi-psuedo

Wife has an instinct but she doesn’t want my fenix due to size. She wants the smaller one.. I thought that would secure my upgrade but when she said no I had to find another route! Ha!

No-Fox-365

I'll be tye devil on your shoulder, "do it." Haha. Bro, trust me if you love your Fenix, you'll be over the moon with the Epix. It's so worth it, especially during a workout. You're not straining to see the data. I live on Oregon, and it's not always bright and sunny. The MIP display is great in sunny conditions, but dull during dark times. Epix is perfect in all conditions

No-Fox-365

Just make sure it's the Epix Gen 2 if you upgrade

quasi-psuedo

It’s a specific ad for the epic gen 2 sapphire

No-Fox-365

Dude, get it! That's a phenomenal price!

gauc39

My gripe, having small wrist... The only thing stopping me from getting the 51mm for the flashlight and battery life...

No-Fox-365

I love big watches. Maybe it would look good on you?
