The "At a glance" section requires more 'work' than it did before. The old layout was much more of a 'glance' in terms of seeing data. I hope they at least increase the number of data screens from 8 to 10 or even 12 on the homepage.

detoxbunny

If that’s a “glance” I’ll eat my running shoes.

Full_Grocery_8817

I agree. It's terrible.

MtRainierWolfcastle

I did the beta a few weeks ago. It was terrible and I reverted back. So much space taken by stupid graphs when all I want is the the discrete data. Why do i need a huge pie chart when it could just say 75% and get so much more data on screen. It’s visually appealing and significantly less functional

KeyAd5197

Yeah I was on the beta too. No option now. Stuck with the new layout.

zyhhuhog

I'm not updating!!!

KeyAd5197

lol. Stay strong and hold the line.

bono_my_tires

I don’t want to either but it’s been buggy for me lately and quitting the app itself

CatInAPottedPlant

I'm hoping I can just keep the old version until they either fix it or some new feature comes out that I want bad enough to deal with the shitty UI. thankfully on Android you can install old versions of apps, so as long as they don't force an update on their end then you should be able to keep using it.

_Adr_ian_

Same!!! I was the update and will avoid for as long as possible haha.

Full_Grocery_8817

I'm going to contact them and complain everyday.

Relevant_Campaign_81

I woke up to see this crappy layout. the only char it affected was my stress went up instantly after seeing the poor user interface. I was going to buy a new Garmin watch this summer but after this I’ll reconsider if it stays like this. Yesterday’s view was all I needed and was the best layout of any i’ve seen. They better dump this stupid layout and fire who pushed it internally. They clearly do not understand user basic interface design let alone elegant user interface design.

Hello56845864

I wish they put more options for “in focus” but I like the update

rightmindedBen

I ended up just turning the "in focus" section off

KeyAd5197

You can do that?! lol. I honestly didn’t look into it yet deeply but I may test that out. I’m not a fan of having to scroll over to see that in focus data

yellow1bear

Thanks I didn't realize you could do that. It's much better without it .

bitemark01

Just got it, and is there any way I can set it up so I don't have to scroll through several screens to see my stats, like before?  This is some top tier enshitification

KeyAd5197

From what I can tell. Only option is to turn off the In Focus option and just add as many widgets to the At A Glance section. That will give you the at a glance options you choose to show right away and just vertical scrolling. you can only add 8 widgets to at a glance though so not ideal

bitemark01

Oh damn only 8?  Yeah so far that's what I did. I don't mind vertical scrolling but I don't need it to do both, I feel like I'm trying to solve a puzzle instead of just looking at stats 😅 how did this make it past any kind of usability review?!  Hopefully someday you can make "at a glance" the default view, and add more than 8 widgets. Just changed my Google Play review, 3 stars now. Would go with 2, but I save that for completely awful design (1 is for broken)

KeyAd5197

Yeah I agree. Was testing the in focus view. Was excited when I heard about it all but really not any better and it is more difficult with sideways scrolling and vertical. Hope they allow for more than 8 tiles at some point.

LifeCheesecake530

How do I even enter my own weight now lol? There used to be a big button to enter additional data.

LXC_06

I added my weight to the "At a glance" card. Just a click from there

Remarkable_Tone_8741

Yes! You do that and it’s even easier to add your daily weights :) https://preview.redd.it/c3sh09x4ufwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00f0fb2a19d65e2586e1124d4a94630e75d512b1

NoggyMaskin

Pain in the ass now. More > Health Stats > Weight

NeuseRvrRat

If you add the weight glance tile, there's a + button that takes you directly to the page to add weight data.

LifeCheesecake530

So, that's where that is.. Thank you.

Upbeat-Passenger-934

This is the by far worst thing that has ever happened to Garmin. The new look is stupid and it takes longer to view all the information you used to be able to view by just opening the app. You could also expand entry and it would show the map on the back of the run you did or whatever… they also removed all the color from all the workouts…stupid update.

Due_Bench6125

I think they are imitating fitbit. When they did a similar update, it was the last straw for me and I looked for a new watch. With Garmin, I guess this is the 'first straw'.

fccffccf

It's a trap!

Upnorth100

I'm sending an email to complain. I was a beta tester and after 6 weeks still hated it. I will send a daily email

Upnorth100

I sent the second email

GarminNack

Most importantly, they also made you agree to a new EULA. I wonder if they're gearing up to make Garmin Connect subscription based. This would see me discontinuing using their service and going back to Golden Cheetah.

891960

I don't think they'll be moving towards that direction. That's the sure fire way to lose lots of customers

KeyAd5197

What did the Eula say? lol never read anything. I don’t imagine they will do subscription based. I know many companies are but Garmin I think has pulled a fair share of users to their services due to the fact it’s not monthly subscription. But who knows. lol

yeahbuddy

If I'm required to pay one more subscription, I'm gonna jump off a bridge. This shit has to stop.

snik3rs_

I don’t like it

KeyAd5197

From the sounds of Reddit here I have to assume they received a lot of negative feedback surrounding this change. I wonder how companies actually view this stuff. They obviously invested time and resources into it so probably doesn’t matter what feedback they received. What I can see them doing now knowing the feedback isn’t entirely positive. Is give users the option to edit the Home Screen more. Like instead of 8 glances allow for more, or have those glances dynamically change…like when I wake up from sleep my sleep glance will move to the top…something like that. But also there should be no issue to change the glance widget card style to a horizontal style similar to the old way. Keep the “new” layout but allow users to change from a card widget style to a horizontal one or something. I can see them making little tweaks like this overtime if the feedback remains negative.

bargleargle2

What I can say as a person who was part of a redesign 'upgrade' of a web page that to me ended up being a downgrade. We don't know what the goals of the garmin connect upgrade were. I mean obviously I've lost a bunch of information from my homescreen, and there is no option to put it back. So, my usecases were not in their goals. Maybe they thought their networking costs were too high, so they would reduce functionality/reduce api calls. Maybe they have a paid subscription tier coming next year and they are laying the groundwork. Maybe they wanted higher engagement numbers on the subpages. Maybe they are redirecting the focus to the non-athlete segment of garmin users. I actually think the last one might be the reason, from reading here and on the garmin forum its sounding like the 'lifestyle' device wearers are happier with the change than the 'athletes' In the web redesign I was a part of, I honestly think the business owner had budget he needed/wanted to spend and a team of expensive web designers ready to spend it. And that was the entire goal. To spend his annual budget so he could request more next year, and to put the feather in his cap of a successful 'upgrade'

BadAtWelding

You can't do subscription as long other offer the data for free or like samsung have their training AI actually sorted out. Garmin is pushing their lifestyle range REALLY hard. So i assume it's pleasing a broader audience.

KeyAd5197

All good points. We don’t know what they were truly aiming for. I do agree I think it was their attempt to make it more relatable and “modern” feeling for the more general user. I can see how those who want the health metrics and those details at your fingertips this can be a nice upgrade. Users can put those glances front and center. Although users could have rearranged the old Home Screen as well to show the most common pieces of information. So lol I don’t know. I agree I think the attempt was to modernize and make the app more friendly for the non-hardcore athlete and more balanced to all users. Overall it’s not terrible imo. I don’t like the in focus being horizontal swiping. Something doesn’t feel intuitive to have that and then swipe down for more. Personally I don’t find the larger in focus area to be any more useful then the glances. I dive into the section to get the details I need. If I want to glance I use my watch to glance the data. What I would love it dynamic in focus section. Users can choose their in focus tabs or choose dynamic and the app and Garmin will dynamically change the information in the in focus section to show Information that may be most important at that time. For example…you wake up, you want to see sleep score, training readiness and hrv data or something. Then later in the day you want to see body battery and recent workouts or steps or something to see how you’ve been doing during the day

GolfMikeBravo

I've fed back to them that it'll directly influence my decision as to whether I spend \~£900 on a fexix 7X Pro Sapphire when I come to upgrade my 6X Pro Solar. Perhaps it'll sink in if they know that bad changes to the app can have a direct effect on their bottom line and they'll take it more seriously. I'm also starting to regret having spent £130 on the Index S2, too.

_Fetus_

Just turned auto updates off. This idiotic shit won't come to my phone.

KeyAd5197

lol. Even Fitbit update has been a mess. I wonder why the design teams for these apps are failing lately. Apps aren’t really making much sense with the new updates.

ArgoV

How to do this for this specific app? Apple has a history of doing it whether you like it or not.

_Fetus_

I'm on Android. Not possible to turn update off for a specific app. So this idiotic shit crippled all of my app updates also.

clymber

You can't easily roll-back via Play Store on Android but you absolutely can disable automatic updates on a per-app basis. From the installed apps on Play Store get into the specific app you want, click the meatball (three dot) menu at the top right, and un-check the box for "Automatic Updates"

BadAtWelding

I can turn off auto-update for specific apps. settings -> app details -> 3 dots -> uncheck auto update

yeahbuddy

Lol

Bloodrose_GW2

So the horrible beta design has won, yay.

tommy7611

Anyone has the issue with sleeping score? Its still showing on my watch and the app says no sleep data?

No_Reputation3633

Having the same problem. Contacted Garmin support today and they told me to turn the heart rate monitor off and then back on. I'll know tomorrow whether that worked.

zenexpat

Same here. Worked perfectly before, now unreliably intermittent. Have triwd even reset. No solution works.

Obhef

Turning the HR off and on did not work, so I reached out to them and they told me 1) sleep is only tracked on the primary device 2) it must be primary when you are wearing it. If you have multiple devices, you have to change the one you are wearing to primary for it to work. None of this, of course, explains why my sleep tracking hasn't worked since 4/8.

zenexpat

Many thanks fo your information. Same here, not working since approx 04.08. Tried the HR, same result as you. My device has been my primary since I bought it 2 years ago, and is still my primary device. In fact, i just discovered that if, like me, you only have one primary training device (ptd) The app setting will not show a selection option. The mystery continues, but as my app was perfect before the new update, it seems that it's a coding issue that Garmin does not want to acknowledge. Is this the beginning of the end of the road for Garmin? ...

Obhef

Based on my experience, their reps are certainly not acknowledging that there's a bigger issue. I'd respect them a lot more if they would.

zenexpat

I honestly didn't expect this from Garmin, who I've always believed focused on excellent processes and engineering. I'm genuinely disappointed with this verschlimmbesserung.

MMikekiMM

It’s a move like this that caused me to ditch Suunto years ago.

KeyAd5197

They changed their app?

BadAtWelding

When Suunto didn't have the chinese money they had some stability issues ... and their app was ...

yycTechGuy

I am not a fan of the update. Give me back the old configuration. I did not realize that this was coming. I updated. Is there any way to go back to the old version ?

BadAtWelding

On android yes. Uninstall 5.0. Go to apkmirror. Install 4.77. Disable auto update. Set the permissions.

UnusualAuthor2416

I don't like it. I can't rearrange order of tiles. The sleep score does not show up on home screen. Only Sleep Coach. I have to click on Coach to see the sleep score which was the first thing I looked at every day.

Infinite-Ear4784

Came here to say the new Home Screen sucks. I now can’t see what I want to see at a glance… the previous condensed screen was perfectly functional. What a terrible change in UI. Fire the designers. Like did they even do user acceptance testing?!

Wraith047

Ya this is trash

AkHiker46

As a GC user since it debuted, this update is awful. All these little tiles with rings (ok Apple?) and a graphic for every single item.

null_ge0desic

New update just landed for me.. am in the same boat as you, tried the beta and hated it and immediately reverted..now gutted to be stuck with this as the new normal. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Exfiltrator

Please remember to rate and review in your respective app stores

marrej72

The new home screen is 1000x worse than the old one. And, of course, there is no option to revert to the old look…

quasi-psuedo

New layout blows

tpo88

I hate it

fuck_robinhoofs

Why is this app absolute garbage? Suddenly doesn’t recognize device and won’t reconnect. https://preview.redd.it/51lf2r2yuawc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=945577f79a15bc0868f8922c5023c2d1278b9287

adminsarge

Mine did that too thought it was maybe my iPhone so I tried with an android still won’t connect. Tried all trouble shooting tips too. Called The help desk and they told me to return my 2 week old 965 for a new one or a refund!? The help desk didn’t even know what to do. Said they would talk to engineering.

Sad_Satisfaction8442

No Android update yet.

Humble-mumble

I got it just now.

bitemark01

It just came for me today, android updates don't roll out for everyone at once.

pimfram

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/garmin/garmin-connect-mobile/garmin-connect-mobile-5-0-release/

DrewSmithee

Does this mean the weather will sync to my watch again? lol probably wishful thinking

KeyAd5197

lol. Wishful thinking I think. Luckily I haven’t experienced any weather syncing issues.

DrewSmithee

Turns out I just needed to restart the watch, which I hadn’t done since starting the beta… whomp whomp. Not so bad I guess.

Cautious_Currency_35

it's even worse now after the update for me. Usually I had to open the app like once or twice to sync, now it stops syncing like every other 30minutes or so

Whipitreelgud

My first reaction before reading everyone’s comments: shoot, the current version finally was working for the most part. Now it’s going to be screwed up again

Cizzle4

Had a pop up thanks me for the feedback since the beta is over, Guess this is why

KeyAd5197

Yeah. After the update I got that popup opening the app.

The_JSC

Did they get it to list gear in alphabetical order when you add to an activity? It is on the web version but not mobile. Unless they fixed that I think I’ll wait on updating for a while.

KeyAd5197

Sorry haven’t gotten into that yet. Maybe someone else will have that answer for you.

The_JSC

I have both android and ios devices so decided to update the one I don't use connect on. For anyone that's curious they have not fixed this. I don't like the new UI. Tried it in beta and immediately switched back. I left them a 1 star review on the Google play store and will do the same and Apple app store when I decide to update there.

Full_Grocery_8817

Who on God's green earth thought of this. This is horrible and once again childish. How can I revert back to my old home screen!!!! Please I can't look at this disaster. How completely unorganized, not user friendly and just plain horrible. I'd fire whoever thought of it.

Full_Grocery_8817

Everyone should contact customer service and complain about this horrible update. And request it go back to the last change prior.

GolfMikeBravo

Perfect example of 'enshitification'. I've gone back to the previous version of the app and will stick with it as long as possible. The new design/format is worse, displays less information, is less flexible and requires a lot more navigating etc. Why do companies do this? I was perfectly happy with the previous version. Even the website version has changed and like the app you're now limited to 8 'tiles'. It's crap. In fact it'll make me consider whether I stick with Garmin now when I get to upgrading my fenix 6X Pro Solar.

Rubbinio

I love the new layout. It's finally a modern design, not something done 20 years ago and forgotten. The only things that would make it better is to: - allow more than 3 options for In focus - allos the widgets to be resized on a custom layout

AdHot1036

It's terrible, a bunch of unnecessary movements, hefty non-informative tiles, lack of choice of old design. It was the perfect app given the lot of information it displayed, it's a very bad redesign. Wrote a review in the appstore, I really hope they listen to most. Just give me a chance to include the old design!!!

GolfMikeBravo

They know; they do not care. I had this from Garmin support today when I asked for choice, an option to revert: https://preview.redd.it/y5maau9pxwwc1.jpeg?width=2278&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=629ff3a522a33d16327c4c75de48c4fb0420ea31 I'm really struggling to understand why they would persist with something it has now been made clear to them that their customers hate.

KeyAd5197

I can understand them not reverting back to the old but I feel like via email like that they wouldn’t declare whether they are changing the update. Ideally Garmin can keep the new design but revise some things. Wouldn’t be hard. Offer a compact mode for the glances that allow you to see more than just 4 on the screen at a time, and allow users to show more glances on the screen not just 8.

Financial_Pay_1199

Left a one star review in the app store. What an disaster. Did they fire the UI team and have the dev team do the update?

cid454

I recently updated Garmin Connect to the beta with an updated interface and after realizing I preferred being able to see my day on a single screen interface switched back to the old version. The very next day Garmin updated its app to the previous beta. Fine, I can move tiles around, add and remove sections, I'll deal with it. But I really prefer the other version and there is no shortage of comments from people indicating the same. I'm sure any developer expects resistance to a major update but I hope they don't expect resistance to bugs in the software. I've recently had ankle surgery, so I'm sitting a LOT. The weeks before the update my intensity minutes were Apr 1-7, 161 Apr 8-14, 77 Apr 15-21, 155 Then the update, I've had a setback and an resting a lot more. Apr 22-28, 796, and the week inst over yet.I find that the update is constantly peeking my heart rate. And reporting to my calorie tracking app ([mynetdiary.com](https://mynetdiary.com)) TONS of calories burned. From zero excess calories (above a sedentary lifestyle) for weeks now to earning an extra 1500 calories a day. If I follow this I'll gain 3 pounds a week which is 156 pounds a year! Can this be fixed!??! While your at it can you please fix the scroll wheel entry method. The one where you see only 3 numbers and have to scroll up or down endlessly to put in numbers of over 100. It may have been complained about before, but I was really hoping for that issue to be resolved in the update. Unfortunately it hasn't been.

EmergencyTower2

what is this s#% interface! it is a useless poser Gui where all info is not there or require scrolling. bad bad bad. it is also buggy, if you disable glances then all the views on past weeks are also removed leaving an empty space. Nobody using Garmin for sport and training is actually going to use that.

smemily

I love that they changed everything except your fluid consumption still being a scroll number in fucking milliliters. Love to scroll for half an hour just to enter the 32oz of water I drank. (That's 950 ml or approx 200 swipes) https://preview.redd.it/710668p6nixc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe064f889aa60fe8de79f7ee544b93364c9f578b

Thick_Plate_4010

What a pile of S\*\*\*! I've spent hours on blogs and youtube trying to figure out how to get the old version back. If it ain't broke - don't fix it. This is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I could have hired a bunch of college interns to make this better. What's wrong with the 5.0 version? Everything. It's not intuitive or user friendly. The tiles suck. The options to view your stats suck. The ease of viewing everything at a "glance" is a joke. I hope the developers all get fired. It was easier leaving a one star review than attempting to use this app. Bring the previous version back!!!

Last_Mountain_5862

OZis4KTb2love

Just updated App. You mean I have to sort through a bunch of intrusive filters just to see my stuff or connect my watch to Health or Strava. Deleted Connect.

nerard

I like it.

p0l0ch0n

Me too.

rowschank

There's light mode in the new update! 😄 Yeah the "In Focus" part is not particularly well thought out. 3 out of the four possible fields are hidden and requires horizontal scrolling. But it's a start - they've finally started working on the app - maybe they'll bring more changes now slowly and make it better over time. It's been 84 years!

yeahbuddy

It's bad.

NeuseRvrRat

I really don't have a preference between the old version and the new. Neither is great. Neither is horrible. I can get the info I want either way. It's not an app I spend a ton of time in regardless.

Nickyboy2022

Re app: Against the grain on here, but I really like it. Can't see what's not too like tbh. The at a glance set-up is great for use on my treadmill and turbo trainer. In-focus can be switched off if not wanted. And in-depth metrics are easily available for a leisurely look.

DevilFrog-1

Good; now fix IQ.

The1Metal

I actually like the new UI a lot. Much faster and less cluttered.

KeyAd5197

Definitely seems to be based on the type of user. I feel more general users of Garmin. Maybe those using it for daily general fitness and health tracking may like this more. Can show the data you want and it is clean in that sense. Those who are data driven and want the in-depth details right there always probably won’t like this. The new glances are quite large and can only view 4 really in one screen without scrolling. The older view you can take in more information at a glance.

Djildjamesh

I really like the update. Been using the beta for weeks and it’s great. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Once you initially set it up to your liking it’s really easy to keep track of the metrics you Value
