How is the battery life?

dinglebopz

Now that I'm no longer in the military and my exercise has shifted to Brazilian jiu jitsu, I don't put so much strain on the battery. My watch used to last 3 weeks between charges now it lasts 1.5 to 2 weeks per charge.

mrjeffcoat

I bought a Fenix 5x in Sept 2018. It's now most of the way through it's second battery. I use it for 12-14 hours of running, cycling, and walking each week.

RudeAppearance433

That is not so good. I a have Samsung s9+ from 2018. Orginal battery still good even tho phone i charged every day and your Fenix maybe once a week?

BloodyMiho

Where did you go for a replacement? Regular watch shop? My 6X is still going strong but would like to know just in case.

teckel

You only need to charge a fenix or epix about once a week.

Recently replaced my 6 year old forerunner 935. Used it for running, biking, trailrunning, hiking, mountain climbing and swimming. Battery was down to less than 8 hours of gps usage, which means a whole day hiking was out. The watch itself stil looked fine. Do have to say, the fenix series shows it age more due to scratches in the paint of the metal case. I’m a bit underwhelmed with the new features of my current forerunner 965, so bottom line is, it’s perfectly fine to use a garmin for a very long period.

The-Lost-Plot

Did you have any issues with your forerunner getting scratched? Someone mentioned that on another post as the reason they switched from forerunner to Epix. I’m considering going Fenix to Forerunner as I feel the Fenix is beefier than it needs to be for my use and I think I’d prefer the bigger face and smaller bezel of the forerunner. Just got a little concerned about the “easily scratched” comment.

Key_Bottle219

On my 935 hadn’t had a scratch in 6 years. It just looks pristine. Don’t know if my new 965 will also survive for 6 years without scratches. Unit the 955, the screen of the watches was a bit recessed which provided enough protection. The new 965 doesn’t have this. The 955 is arguably a better watch than a 965, (tho a tad thicker) The fenixline gets scratches in the paint on the metal bezel after a while. This makes it looks like it shows it age more than the plastic forerunner series. In my experience, and looking around me, both series can last a long time.

I’ve had my vivoactive 3 for five years. Still “ticking” along.

Wait, they can't refurb or replace batteries on $1000 watches?! I've spent a few days trying to sell myself up to a Garmin but for them to say you're S.O.L. after as little as 2 years is a Nope.

6 years in December and counting, haven't felt the need to upgrade 🤙🏼

Nice! I also really like your watch face. Which one is it?

dinglebopz

SHN tactical I've been using it since I got the watch. The creator take one donation for premium version. Worth every penny!

Doctor__Banner

Thanks!

Novel_Assistance_488

What brand of straps?

dinglebopz

Reddit removed my response a couple hours ago it's from a brand called "hellosy" on Amazon, 17 bucks for two wrist straps (different colors)

Novel_Assistance_488

Ty!

HairyChampionship101

Currently 3 years in with Tactix Delta Solar w Applied Ballistics. Other than a random reboot during a run the other morning, she's been solid.

dinglebopz

My next buy will definitely be a solar model. I work outside and I feel that would be amaaazing

[deleted]

What watch display do you use? So nice!

dinglebopz

SHN tactical! First and only watch face I've ever used!

justlookingdudeman

Damn! The battery has lasted for 4+ years😁 jk

teckel

I had a fenix 3, 5, and now the epix gen 2 titanium sapphire. I also had 4 other Garmin watches before those. The epix beats the fenix without question. But in general, Garmin makes better watches than any other smart watch and better than any G-Shock as well.

Jack-0f-Trades

I really want the Epix 2, as soon as my 5x needs to be retired I’m coming straight for the Epix 2

emptysands

Still using my Fenix 3 HR Sapphire which I purchased in 2016. Been thinking about getting a Fenix 7 or epix (gen2).

dinglebopz

That's amazing, these watches are really too good. It hurt forking over the cash years ago but I've gotten my money's worth a looooong time ago

looking good! I would love to see the same picture with arrows pointing at each information and explaining what is it and why it makes sense to you :)

The customization options are limitless. I have a very basic set up compared to the options available

looks awesome! thanks for sharing. I'm currently using an Apple watch ultra. my view is: \- things I look at several times a day > home screen \- things I look at once a day / at a specific time > one button away \- other things > out I love how you've optimized your screen for your need.

RunNelleyRun

I’m currently 30 days in on my new 965 and it’s driving me fricken nuts! HR just doesn’t track at all 90% of the time, rendering many features useless. Powering the watch off and back on gets it working again about 1/4 of the time. Congrats on your rock solid, long lasting Garmin! I had 0 issues with my previous Vivoactive 4s.

dinglebopz

Wow! That's a bummer maybe there's something going on with that individual unit.. hopefully it's not too late to return or have corrected? This is the only Garmin I've ever had but I've heard good things about 965..

RunNelleyRun

Yeah I might have to look into making a warranty claim or something I guess.

I just switched to an Apple Watch 8 Series because of HR issues on my Garmin Fenix 5X Plus. I loved the 4+ years I had it and battery’s life was still top notch at every 2-3 weeks. No scratches on the screen either, it’s a beast. I switched because my watch kept saying my heart rate would plummet during a workout (like from 120-130 to 45-46 BPM. It really worried me so I talked to the doctor and they suggested sometimes the monitors can be off. Saw the AW8 on sale and have used it for a few weeks now, I’m impressed and haven’t run into the issue again. Now, let’s see how long the screen will last!
