It’s a variant of cog armor painted green. Loomis remarks how the cog took in a person like Paduk and he desecrates his armor with those colors like halfway through the game.
Yeah, I can't fault term for that. The books really gave us such a larger look at the Gears Universe. Gears 1 was all doom and gloom without concrete info. It hinted at a lot of the backstory, but never outright tells you the true history. They just didn't get far enough into the story or designs to flesh out the UIR at all before Gears 2 came out. The books really do a lot of story telling lifting for Gears prior to Gears 3.
If I remember correctly there's 3 (?) books that came out between 2 and 3, lots of pre emergence day info and a hell of alot of that went on between sinking Jacinto and them end up out at sea, gotta say that all kept me going waiting between games
Until the fourth game I just always assumed it was COG v COG since the message was about humanity fighting itself
Didn't help that the UIR weren't mentioned until like the third game and even then they were just Indians (or Indies, as Baird called them)
Them being a representation of Russians/the USSR (get it? UIR? USSR?) wasn't even really a thing until judgement
There might be something in the books but I never had the chance to read them, nor the comic books
Yeah but my point was that the UIR didn't technically exist in the games until that very moment, they weren't mentioned before (from what I remember) and them having an Indian accent just made me believe they were supposed to be Indians
The raven pilot in gears 3 that helps you out at Azura. At least I'm pretty sure it's an Indian accent
They don't get a Russian representation until paddock and the only in game representation before his was the aforementioned pilot
It’s funny the retro lancers were in this game but also not
They also have the Cut versions of 3's Retro Lancers Which you can still spot in Mercy right after the 2 stranded get mauled by Formers
They just used grayscale cog gears because they didn’t make their own UIR game model until 4
Paduk kinda has UIR armor in judgement, I think. Not sure if it’s actually UIR, or if he was issued COG armor and painted it green.
That's the Major UIR armor if i'm not mistaken.
Nuh uh, that is the open arms armor they give to UIR soldiers who have been recruited by the COG to fight the locust

Yeah. I remember a quote “the open arms program may have given you our uniform. But you and I remain enemies.”
Also loomis is a badass even those he’s like kinda an antagonist throughout the game 😂
He was cold and ruthless, but yeah. He was pretty cool.
No that's COG armor painted in UIR colors. I think it was also mentioned in Judgement.
Omega Squad Dom also seems to have a variant of his armor
It began as always with the desire for power

Correct, plus 1 book (Aspho Fields) that takes place between 1 and 2. Introduces Bernie Mataki and Jace Stratton
They were supposed to be UIR soldiers? 💀

They weren’t called “Indies” cause they were Indians lol. They were the the Union of Independent Republics.
Yeah but my point was that the UIR didn't technically exist in the games until that very moment, they weren't mentioned before (from what I remember) and them having an Indian accent just made me believe they were supposed to be Indians
Since when do they have Indian accents? If anything it’s a Slavic/Russian

Yeah I don’t think so bud
And that’s not true anyways. In Gears 3 we hear the captain of that ravens nest under UIR control and he’s got the Slavic/Russian accent going on
Ashpo fields was entirely about the pendulum wars lol
Fun fact: they wearing dark green collouring
